Years after the release of "Lunatic," someone set the pitbulls loose in the nursery again and managed to record the whole affair, which has now been unleashed under the "Equanimity" title via Klonosphere Records.
Mixing together proggy, technical death metal with some melodic guitar work and clean vocals, the album is a complex and multi-faceted release worth multiple spins. If you haven't heard it yet, the full album is available below along with our new interview with vocalist Tersim Backle.
During our interview, Tersim made a point to champion local, underground bands (stating "if you don't know where to go, look where you come from"), explained what's been happening with the band in the nine years since the last album, and what fans can look forward to next from Pitbulls In The Nursery. Poland's Hegemone just issued the following announcement about parting ways with vocalist/bassist Marcin Szpot:
"Our gig in Torun was the last one we've played with Marcin Szpot on vocals and bass guitar. We've spent 3 great years together, played good gigs, recorder our debut album and made a lot of band memories.
"However, it is time to part our musical ways. Hegemone will continue it's journey... with whom? time will tell... Dziekujemy Marcin. Za wszystko." More...
The inaugural September installation of Shadow Woods Metal Fest, the new open-air camping metal fest, has moved slightly Southeast, from its initial placement in Southern Pennsylvania to White Hall in Harford County, Maryland.
Set to take place September 25th - 27th, 2015, the new location of Shadow Woods Metal Fest is similar to the previous site, with deep woods, cabins and tent camping fields, yet is slightly closer to both Baltimore and Philadelphia, making it even more accessible to East Coast metallers planning on attending the diverse three-day festival.
Since initial announcements, Menace Ruine dropped from the lineup and was replaced by Black Table, yet the remainder of the Shadow Woods Metal Fest lineup remains the same, including lead performances from Midnight, Falls of Rauros, Occultation, Velnias, Iron Man, Anagnorisis, The Flight of Sleipnir and Stone Breath, along with twenty-six additional acts. The fest is also likely to be the first live performance for the surviving members of Wormreich since the tragic vehicle crash in April.
There will be ZERO ticket sales at the gate for the festival -- advance presales to those 21 years of age and older is the only way into the fest, and is still BYOB. The lineup consists of: More...

"Genexus" - the 9th Fear Factory studio album - will drop via Nuclear Blast Entertainment on August 7th.
Until then, the band is setting about whetting the appetite of eager fans by releasing the first trailer. Find out more about the new album and hear a snippet of the "Protomech" track below.
“The word genexus is a hybrid of two words; genesis and nexus,” explains vocalist Burton C. Bell. “This word describes the next transition in human evolution as man moves forward to a ‘mechanical’ state of being. Ray Kurzweil predicts that the singularity will occur around 2045. Genexus is the term for that next evolutionary process. Where humans are machines, machines are human and the differences are oblivious to the naked eye.
“This album is a record of thought patterns, psychology and struggles of the Genexus generation. The cognitive machine has arrived, and it wants autonomy from the industry that created it. This machine struggles, like every other human has throughout the course of history. This is the story of every one of us.” More...

"Mara" is the soon-to-be-released seven-inch from Agalloch bassist/Self Spiller mastermind, Jason W. Walton.
Arranged during the summer months of 2013, Walton collected field recordings from places he would visit, capturing the din of humanity on the downtown Portland streets, the rush of ocean waves in Southern California, and the mysteriously comforting monologues emanating from an AM radio.
During mid-2014, Walton manipulated and processed these sounds into disturbingly haunting pieces which would become the basis of "Mara." Today the first helping of "Mara" comes online titled "Alp." If you dig ambient weirdosity, check it out below. More...

The death metal maniacs from Krisiun just finished recording their new album, "Forged In Fury," which is set to be released worldwide via Century Media Records on August 7th, 2015. Featuring cover artwork by Joe Petagno, "Forged In Fury" was produced by Erik Rutan. The band comments:
"'Forged in Fury' marks our return to the studio after 3 years of constantly touring all over the globe. Things were working well as we were always satisfied with the results of the previous records, but we thought that it was time for a change.
"Erik Rutan was the chosen one to be the producer, at Mana Recording Studios in Florida. This album could be described as a 'more natural' sounding album; the songs came out with more ambience and more low-end, making it sound even more brutal and straight-forward. It took us a lot of hard work and dedication, no fashions or tendencies were followed, this is a true relentless metal album to the bone, with a huge, natural sound.
"The song writing captures all the experience and feelings we gathered thru all the years of touring and recording, it has more variation and dynamics, but is still 100% Krisiun. Erik has a huge participation within the whole process, especially with regards to the band's performance. He was able to get the best out of each one of us, as we have been friends for a long time, so it was a pleasure working with him.
"This album was made with a lot of heart and passion for metal music. Hopefully you metal maniacs enjoy it as much as we did working it out. See you on the road." More...
Broken Hope has issued the following announcement about cancelling the band's appearance at the FFF Fest:
"Dear awesome Broken Hope fans: Regarding our scheduled appearance at FFF Fest in Mexico...we will NOT be playing due to serious logistical & business issues.
"Our booking agent is already scheduling another Mexico appearance with another promoter for later this year.
"To be clear: We're very bummed this cancellation happened, but it's beyond our control--the root-cause of this cancellation falls squarely on the shoulders of the Festival organizer.
Mexico is in Broken Hope's heart! We WILL see you all soon!
"We gave the promoter every chance to deliver on his contractual obligations as promised--even AFTER the deadline our agent stipulated. The promoter never came through and blew it for everyone." More...

Kissing Candice has unveiled “Tusk,” the second track released from upcoming debut album, "Blind Until We Burn," available out June 29th.
"’Tusk’ identifies with the masked corruption presented by the media, particularly the forceful influence on peoples' decision making as well as their perceived self-worth,” explains guitarist Walt Dicristina. “This song was written in hopes of inspiring all who listen to challenge what they are being told and to embrace their own perfectly-different individuality. Have faith in what you believe."
Tonight, Kissing Candice will wrap up the “Back To Hell - The Darkness Tour 2015” with Twiztid before joining the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. More...
Leaves' Eyes will drop new album "King Of Kings" this coming September, with the artwork available below. The band also comments:
"Hafrsfjord, Norway's west-coast. A.D. 873. Did you hear what happened? Harald Hårfagre (c.850-932), remembered by medieval historians as the first king of Norway. The battle of Hafrsfjord is described in the Saga of Harald Hårfagre (Harald Fairhair) in Snorri's Heimskringla.
"Harald defeated several petty kings and the battle is considered decisive in the unification of Norway. The seabed in Hafrsfjord hides many secrets and many traces. Moreover, Hafrsfjord is my birthplace. With our upcoming album we would like to take you on a journey through a highly interesting chapter in Scandinavia's history.
"Those of you who were present at our latest concerts surely noticed that there's one new song on our setlist, 'Halvdan the Black' - one chapter of the upcoming album 'King of Kings!' Halvdanr Svarte (c.810-860) was a ninth-century king of Vestfold, Norway. He belonged to the House of Yngling (son of Odin' line) and was the father of Harald Fairhair. 'Halvdan the Black' is just the start of an amazing adventure!
"This production is one unique soundtrack - a brilliant and impressive auditive experience. The album was recorded in Germany, Norway, England, Netherlands, Belarus and Switzerland. 'King of Kings' is produced by Alexander Krull at Mastersound Studio. Outstanding musical colleagues and ensembles have contributed with their guest appearances like the London Voices Choir (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, The Hobbit, Harry Potter). The fantastic artwork is done by Stefan Heilemann (Lindemann, Nightwish, Epica, Kamelot)." More...

Following last month's Western Migration live takeover, today Windy City-based blackened death grind unit Immortal Bird confirms official details for the "Empress/Abscess" LP.

Venice Beach, California’s purveyors of psychedelic violence from The Shrine have joined forces with Century Media.
The Dogtown triumvirate (guitarist/vocalist Josh Landau, Court Murphy on bass, Jeff Murray on drums) has been spray painting the walls of rock’s collective (un)consciousness over the course of two LP’s: 2012’s "Primitive Blast" and 2014’s "Bless Off" (both on the Tee-Pee label).
“When we walked into Mike Gitter's office and there was a giant framed photo of Dennis Hopper from Easy Rider next to a Stooges poster next to an original handbill from a Slayer/Venom gig, we knew this man and the company he keeps, Century Media, was more than good enough to butter our bread," says Landau of The Shrine’s new label home.
“Listening to The Shrine is the sonic equivalent of rifling through old issues of Thrasher and Action Now Skateboarder with Charles Manson while blasting California Jam bootlegs and Black Flag’s My War,” says Century Media A&R man Mike Gitter. “They’re the resin scraped from several generations of no-bullshit American rock distilled into its purest essence. What they’ve accomplished on their own is nothing short of awesome. The Shrine’s legend is only going to grow larger and louder.”
Shortly after signing with Century Media, the members of The Shrine found themselves in the studio with producer Dave Jerden. “When I first heard The Shrine at the guitar shop, they were the best blend of punk, thrash and hard rock I’ve ever heard,” says Jerden. “I had to work with them. The record we’re making right now is an over-the-top, in-your face, rebirth-of-rock record!” More...

Dischordia is also embarking on a new trek through the central USA and onto the East Coast, as "The Prisoner Tour" runs from July 2nd to 25nd this upcoming summer.
"Getting back to the East Coast has been on our minds since our last trek out there," comments bassist/vocalist Josh Turner. "We're looking forward to both new and familiar stops on this tour." More...
The Italian death metal worshipers from Daemoniac have inked a deal with Xtreem Music for the imminent release of their debut EP "Lord of Immolation" as well as upcoming albums.

When does a Gothenburg melodeath band not sound like a Gothenburg melodeath band? When they’re Archaea, who roll out a hybrid of thrashy yet symphonic leanings in a melodeath package.
The band will drop a physical version of the "Catalyst" album this coming August 28th, 2015. The CD comes in a digipack with artwork and photos from Demithréa Mikulasi and Jessica Blomé.
Markus Heidarsson has a whiff of Ola Englund about his guitar playing, particularly in the solos, playing against the harsh roar of Nils Bossius and the tightly-wound rhythm section. Orchestral stabs punctuate tracks such as “Silhouette,” while “Vacuum” revels in a circus-like atmosphere, and “Salt” dances around a piano and strings melody amid the groovy stomp.
In their own words, the members of Archaea describe their lyrical themes as “struggles on a personal and global scale, elusive antagonists and the unyielding indifferent elements,” although “Quad Damage” reveals the band’s love of video games with a sly reference. More...
