Epistasis To Release "Light Through Dead Glass"

Maryland-based extreme/experimental conduit, Crucial Blast, is proud to announce the upcoming release of "Light Through Dead Glass," the sophomore release from New York City-based Epistasis. The following press release was issued about the band:

"Epistasis ntegrates the talents of guitarist Kevin Wunderlich, bassist Doug Berns, drummer Alex Cohen (also of avant-death metallers, Pyrrhon, and tech-death legends, Malignancy), and is fronted by Amy Mills on vocals and trumpet. Mills has also contributed trumpet parts on new albums from Castevet and Psalm Zero. The quartet, while impossible to define or describe in few words, culminates a wide range of eclectic influences into a bizarre, otherworldly soundtrack of unrestrained creativity with an edge of pure lunacy.

"Much like labelmates Ehnahre, Epistasis crafts an unconventional, complex sound that suggests just as much kinship with the darker and more malevolent realms of prog rock (Univers Zero, Present, Red-era King Crimson) as it does with the more outré fringes of black metal, delivering a kind of nightmarish dissonance shot through with scenes of shocking surrealistic violence and flashes of phantasmal beauty. Rivers Of Nihil Posts Playthrough Video

Rivers of Nihil's Brody Uttley and Adam Biggs have released a brand new "Airless" performance demo video featuring guitar and bass parts recorded with Toontrack. Guitarist Brody Uttley explains in depth:

"Toontrack makes it easy for me to take a song that I spent two weeks writing and have it recorded and sounding professional within a few hours. The Metal Amps and Andy Sneap mix pack for EZ Mix 2 make finding guitar and bass tones easier than it has ever been; simply record a DI track and throw the plugin on and WHAMMY, instant great sound. The Metal! EZX pack has some of the most mix friendly drum sounds available on the market. Normally I like to do quite a bit of eq'ing and other tweaking on digital drums by routing each piece of the kit out to an individual bus to make it sound more organic. With the new Metal! EZX I only moved a few things and it was sounding perfect!

"Toontrack is doing something truly unique. They are allowing young aspiring musicians (and producers) to get great sounds without having to spend thousands of dollars on outboard gear, amplifiers, drum kits, and microphones. Even though everything from Toontrack can be done 'in the box,' one can still make an incredibly organic and believable sounding recording for very little money.

"In the case of 'Airless' I recorded four DI guitar tracks. I panned two of them hard left and hard right and the other two about 75% L and R. Then I selected two different amp samples and applied them to each of the tracks; blending them together so that they sounded even better. All of the leads were just a single track with various delay, reverb, chorus, and other presets applied. The bass was just a single bass DI in the center with the Andy Sneap '90's rock bass' patch applied. I chose to use the default 'Big Crack Kit' for this track just because it seemed the most appropriate and sounded the best! Plus Mark Lewis is one of my favorite producers, so I had to fan boy a little." More...

Kill Devil Hill Releases New Music Video

Kill Devil Hill has partnered with Revolver Magazine for the world premiere of "Leave It All Behind," the first music video from the band's sophomore studio release "Revolution Rise." The video can be seen below now.

"We're all fired up and ready to kick this year off right!" says bassist Rex Brown, whose autobiography "Official Truth - 101 Proof: The Official Story Of Pantera" will be released in paperback on March 24th, with North American Kill Devil Hill tour dates to follow. "'Leave It All Behind' was shot with a very different approach for us. It's a story board video that intertwines the band with a guy that has faced some apocalyptic demons in his own mind. We shot the video at an old missile site in Southern California that had been burned out by fires years ago. The story hits very close to home with the lyrical content of the song, which makes it even more surreal and sublime - we'll leave the rest up to your interpretation!"

Featuring Pantera and former Down bassist Rex Brown, former Dio, Black Sabbath, and Heaven and Hell drummer Vinny Appice, ex-Pissing Razor singer Dewey Bragg and acclaimed session/touring guitarist Mark Zavon, "Revolution Rise" was produced by Kill Devil Hill and Jeff Pilson, and mixed by Jay Ruston. BTBAM To Film New DVD

Between The Buried And Me will be recording a new DVD in March. BTBAM's Tommy Rogers comments:

"We are very happy to announce that we are finally doing a DVD for The Future Sequence. In this age we live in you can watch us play any of our songs live online. So we wanted to give our fans something a little different... an intimate live performance of us playing in a studio. It will be a wonderful experience and I hope you all enjoy it as much as we enjoy playing these songs."

Metal Blade Records also adds: "The concept behind this project is in contrast with the band's ambitious and impressive live stage productions - this will feature the band in a small studio, an intimate setting in which they will perform 'The Future Sequence' in its entirety.

"Joining the band for this performance will be a small group of auxiliary musicians, including percussionists, saxophone, flute, string quartet. BTBAM will record at the Fidelitorium outside Winston-Salem, NC after the conclusion of their upcoming North American tour.

"Director Justin Reich will be behind the cameras for this project, and longtime BTBAM producer, Jamie King, will mix and master the audio. The release date is tentatively scheduled for the Fall." More...

Solstice Streaming "I Am The Hunter"

Solstice today premieres the new track "I Am The Hunter," which can be heard at Pitchfork.com here.

The track hails from the U.K. band's long-awaited comeback record "Death's Crown is Victory," out now on Into The Void Records. The following press release was also issued about the band:

"The legacy of England’s Solstice has remained untouched, and their crown unobtainable even by the few bold enough to try. However, a stirring from the sinistral depths awoke the epic metal behemoth Solstice from their slumber, and in the last three years, the band have been rehearsing, writing, and gigging around Europe and solidifying a full working lineup.

"Founder member Rich Walker originally put the band on ice in 2002, but began putting the pieces back together in 2007, although it took him until 2011 to begin to find musicians who were of the same mindset and not faint-hearted. Joined by Andy Whittaker (ex-The Lamp of Thoth), Paul Kearns (ex-Arcane Sun), Ian "Izak" Buxton (ex-Chorus of Ruin) and James Ashbey, Solstice in 2014 live by their motto: Never Surrender - No Remorse. For Today Talks Christian/Secular Divide In Music

In a new interview with Altpress.com, For Today's Mattie Montgomery tackles issues ranging from sex trafficking, to the idea of Christian bands being segmented from secular ones, and even on to his thoughts on gay marriage after former member Mike Reynolds went on a Twitter tirade that put the band in a spotlight it didn't want. Check out excerpts from the interview below.

AP: This is your second album since leaving the overtly Christian-based Facedown Records. You've toured with a ton of bands outside of that realm, too.

There has been an effort by the powers that be in this music industry–media outlets, record labels, management companies–to divide bands into Christian and non-Christian groups, and I think that sucks. We've made it a point for years to go on tour with non-Christian bands.

For example, the guys in Stray From The Path, who are out on tour with us right now. They are some of the best friends we've ever had in a band. We've toured with those guys a bunch of times. I have [Christian] kids come up to me all the time asking, “How is it touring with bands like that?” I'm like: “It's fine! Who told you that I have to be afraid of bands who don't agree with me?” I don't know how people are getting it into their heads, but I feel like non-Christian kids feel like they're not welcome at a For Today show. Some Christian kids often come to For Today shows and are upset that there are non-Christian bands and people there. It's completely ridiculous. I don't know who drew a line in the sand and said you're only allowed to hang out with a certain type of people.

AP: Given how often you've expressed love toward so many people, it must've been very frustrating for you to suddenly be deemed homophobic or otherwise hateful in the aftermath of Reynolds’ tweets.

It was frustrating, to say the least. That whole thing blindsided me. And it was exasperated by preexisting issues. The fact that there are people who call themselves Christians but go on the news and picket soldiers' funerals and say stuff like “God Hates Fags?” These people totally dishonor God, and disrespect God and they dishonor and disrespect people who are made in God's image.

Interview

Interview With Chris Bay Of Freedom Call

Back in 1998, Chris Bay and former Gamma Ray drummer Dan Zimmerman created Freedom Call. Zimmerman has since departed in 2010 following the release "Legend of the Shadow King." For the past sixteen years, Freedom Call has taken the "happy power metal" formula of Gamma Ray and made it even more cheerful. With bombastic infectious choruses that especially shine in an interactive live experience, Bay has embraced this "happy metal" title and adopted it as a theme. In the word of metal, it seems that years of portraying evil and negativity have caused any act that chooses to be positive and cheerful to come under fire for "not being cool." Chris Bay has a different message for the fans - enjoy life, get "beyond" yourselves and embrace a positive outlook.

The band is set to release the new album "Beyond" on February 24th (EU) and March 4th (USA) via Steamhammer/SPV. Chris Bay took some time to answer questions about the new album, the return to a heavier style and the band's positive philosophy. More...

Drakkar Names New Album; Posts Update

Italy's Drakkar announced that the name of the upcoming new release will be entitled "Run With the Wolf," the band's fifth album. The pre-production phase for the release is complete and the band will soon announce further details, including guest appearances.

Guitarist/composer Dario Beretta provided the following update: "Hi guys, Dario here. Time for some good news!

"The works on the new album proceed as planned. Pre-production is done and sounds good. Frankly, I can't wait to start the 'real' recordings for this material, I am confident it's going to come out great. As I mentioned before, there will be some Irish melodies/influences this time around, which is something new for us. And there will also be a couple of special guests, but we'll talk about that later; for now, it's time to announce the TITLE OF THE ALBUM!

"The fifth DRAKKAR full-lenght will be called... (drum roll please)

'RUN WITH THE WOLF'!

"The release date is not settled yet, but it's going to be between the end of 2014 and early 2015, depending on many factors.

"The album will also come out in a VERY LIMITED EDITION (probably around 500 copies) with a second CD, which will include... well, let's just say that it will include some awesome bonus material and leave it at that! Can't spoil all surprise now, can we?

"So, there you go. I hope you like the title and that you look forward to hear what we have in store.

"Stay metal!"
