The latest round of additions to the continually-expanding lineup for 2014's installment of the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival has been disclosed, including Massachusetts' own '90s hardcore punk act, Sam Black Church.
Confirmed as one of the main headliners of the event's third night, Saturday, April 19th, Sam Black Church's set at NEMHF 2014 will mark only the third performance since the group initially disbanded at the turn of the century, and first in Central Massachusetts since the late '90s.
Stated the band upon being asked to take part in the massive event this Spring: "It is amazing what the man we used to know as Ogre has done with the New England Metalfest! We are fucking excited to be a part of it once again!"
The organizers of the fest comment: "Formed in Boston, in June of 1988 by Jesse "Jet" Crandall (vocals), Ben Crandall (guitar), Richard G. Lewis (bass), and J.R. Roach (drums), Sam Black Church was known for their energetic live performances, playing a frenetic blend of hardcore, metal, and thrash. Over the years sharing bills with bands as diverse as Bad Brains, Clutch, Motörhead, Cro-Mags, Fear, and Helmet, they were one of the most popular hardcore bands in the Northeast United States during the 1990s. After releasing three full-lengths on Taang! Records, they left to join Wonderdrug where they remained until they retired in 2000 after releasing a total of seven albums. Since disbanding, Sam Black Church reunited for a sold-out show on September 22, 2007, at The Roxy in Boston, and played a another sold-out performance at Hometown Throwdown #16 with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones at House of Blues in Boston on December 29th, 2013. A documentary of their career by Duncan Wilder Johnson entitled Leave Behind a Groove in the Earth is scheduled for release in 2014."
Also now confirmed to invade this year's festival are Oceano, Scars of Tomorrow, The Last Ten Seconds of Life, InDirections, and Julius Seizure on Thursday, April 17th, and Reflections on Friday, April 18th. The setup for Saturday, April 19th has also been lengthened with Texas In July, Obey The Brave and the aforementioned Sam Black Church performance. The currently announced lineup is as follows: More...

Spiralarms has announced the addition of drummer Andy Galeon (Death Angel) to the fold. Andy will make his live debut with the band this Saturday, February 8th in San Francisco, CA at the Milk Bar. Guitarist Craig Locicero released the following statement on Andy joining the band:
"After much deliberation and our European tour, we've decided it is time to part ways with our good friend and Brother Ron Redeen. This was not an easy decision, but it came down to health and personal reasons that Ron must deal with on his own terms. Make no mistake about it this was difficult. Ron is a fantastic drummer and a wonderful person who deserves much credit and respect for his playing. We wish him nothing but the best for his future and we love him dearly.
"Now to the present...Andy Galeon, formerly of Death Angel, is 'the New Guy!' When Andy and I got together to play the Robb Flynn and Friends benefit last month, we just clicked. Everything we played together had something special going within our chemistry. This was totally unexpected by both of us and the only times previous to that I'd actually played music with Andy was on old Sabbath songs decades ago. That being said, we've been friends for about 25 years and toured our asses off together in 1990 in Europe and the States. Back then we were the two youngest kids on the bus! There is a history and pedigree that makes sense.
"When Tim, Cornbread and Brad watched Andy and I play at the benefit, it all became clear. He IS our guy that will help us continue to grow into the heavy rock force we set out to be. Our first full practice was tonight and we all got chills at how much we jelled with the power and groove Andy brings to the table. Andy's been playing drums his entire life and pretty much grew up in rock and metal school. Honestly, I'm so happy to have Andy in a situation were he can get back out there and show his skills in our music. We all complement each other with an ease that's difficult to come by. It's about time he steps back into the international ring, so to speak.
"Now it's out of the frying pan and into the fire! Two rehearsals and we're playing our first show Saturday night in San Francisco! That's what Professionals do and Andy is a Pro!" More...

Powerviolence act Antichrist Demoncore has officially teamed up with Melotov Records for the release of its debut full-length LP. Also popularly known as ACxDC, the band enters LA's The Pit Studio next week with producer Taylor Young (Xibalba, Twitching Tongues) to record the as-yet-untitled album. The following press release was issued about the band:
"With origins dating back to 2003, ACxDC returned to the scene in 2010 after a hiatus and has been systematically killing ever since. Although its Melotov Records debut is its first full-length, the band has a slew of EPs and splits under its belt, released via labels like Deep Six and To Live A Lie. Founder and frontman Sergio Amalfitano has described the band's mission as a 'war on any and all fundamentalism.' A pillar of the LA scene, ACxDC has played in the LA area with every band that matters and has toured with the likes of Capitalist Casualties. Current members also do time in other bands, most notably drummer Jorge Luis Herrera who bashes for powerviolence veterans Despise You.
"Melotov Records is the LA-based label founded in 2008 by Melanie Voltz. Now distributed exclusively by Converge frontman Jake Bannon's label, Deathwish Inc, Melotov is on a tear with recent releases by The Banner, Bone Dance, and Ghostlimb, and new upcoming 2014 releases by ACxDC, Tiger Flowers, and more.
"ACxDC's debut LP is slated for a late spring 2014 release on Melotov. The band has a European summer tour in the works, including festivals such as Fluff Fest and Obscene Extreme."
Melotov's Melanie Voltz states: "Words cannot describe how excited I am to be working with ACxDC. Not only are they monumental in the Los Angeles punk/hardcore community, but their beliefs and methods of promoting them are something I strongly identify with – veganism, marriage equality, anti-authority, etc. Antichrist Demoncore are a staple band, not just for their genre, but for encouraging change and opening conversations on difficult subjects in a way that makes it accessible for people within the aggressive music community. They are also some of the most down-to-earth dudes I've met. Their work ethic and moral codes, coupled with their insane live performances and equally insane 'audience participation', had me hooked upon initial exposure. I can't tell you how damn cool it is to now have the opportunity to be their home for this release."

We would like to extend a huge high five to our local fanbase for always supporting us and sticking with us. Mediaskare Records is pleased to announce the addition of California’s Reformers to its roster of artists.
The band’s first Mediaskare release will be the debut full-length album "Abolish," which is set to hit stores and digital retailers on April 29th. A lyric video for the track “Belligerence" can be seen below.
“More and more you see people adopting the mantra, 'Negative Minded,' or, 'Stay Negative,' but why?” stated front man Andrew Backlin when speaking about “Belligerence.” He adds, “Hate saturates your very being, taking what was once joy, and extinguishing any hope for a future. Life has it's valley's, don't get us wrong, but there is so much beauty in this gift called life that we have been given. Choose to live in hate, and soon that is all you will see, it clouds your vision, preventing true joy from even being possible. This song is our response to people who choose to live in hate, letting it sap any part of life worth living, and for what? The satisfaction of feeling justified for past situations? Tomorrow is a new day, love life, forgive people, move on, happiness is not out of your reach.”
The album's track listing is as follows:
2. Reckless American (feat. Johnny Plague of Winds of Plague)
5. Commercialized Genocide
6. Greed Machine
7. Eliminate The Sickness
9. PNP (feat. Justin Singh of The Great Commission)
11. Turn It Around

Montreal-based "rockcore" act Mass Murder Messiah has recruited former Neuraxis frontman Alex Leblanc as the group's new singer.
Drummer Sammoth says, “Alex is a juggernaut on stage. He is the perfect fit for this band in all aspects. He’s a great frontman, has years of experience on and off stage and he’s just an overall great guy. We are VERY happy to add him to the M3 family.”
Leblanc: "It's good to be back in the game! After a two-year hiatus, I didn't realize how much I missed being in a jamroom and screaming my heart out. Mass Murder Messiah is a solid band and I can't wait to bring my special kind of mayhem to their style and terrorize crowds everywhere.”
The band recently confirmed an appearance at this year's Amnesia Rockfest in Montebello, Canada, and is already working on a follow-up to 2013's independently released album “The Rise Of Evil."

Pennsylvania death metal assassins Rivers of Nihil have announced a handful of live assaults leading up to an appearance on The Best In Brutality Tour with Broken Hope, Oceano, Fallujah, and Kublai Khan.
The latest run of dates in support of full-length album "The Conscious Seed Of Light" will initiate in Fayetteville, North Carolina on March 10th and include a performance at SXSW in Austin, Texas on March 13th before kicking off The Best In Brutality Tour on March 18th in Phoenix, Arizona. The trek will come to a close on April 19th in Columbus, Ohio and includes an appearance at this year's edition of the New England Metal & Hardcore Fest in Worcester, Massachusetts.
In related news, drummer Ron Nelson has recently parted ways with the band. Elaborates Rivers of Nihil in an official statement: "After five years as Rivers of Nihil, we have come to the mutual decision to part ways with our drummer and friend, Ron Nelson. Ron is the guy who started this band back in 2009 and most of us have been playing in bands with him since we were sixteen years old. He recorded two EPs and a full-length with us, toured all over the country, farted many times in our van, and has left an enormous space to be occupied. Without Ron, we absolutely would not be the band (or people) that we are today. Ron will be sorely missed by us and we wish him the best in his future endeavors! With the departure of such a monster of a player as Ron we knew that we had to carefully select our newest member; that guy is Alan Balamut. Alan has learned our live set in record time and with frightening accuracy. We are proud to have him as part of the Rivers of Nihil family and look forward to the times ahead. Catch Alan and the rest of us on tour this March and April with Broken Hope, Oceano, Fallujah, and Kublai Kahn on The Best Of Brutality Tour!" More...

Yesterday it was announced that Newsted had been removed from two Soundwave festival shows and replaced by Whitechapel.
The Soundwave organizers stated the change was made "at the request of Megadeth," which has caused Megadeth's management to comment on the issue.
Speaking to ABC News Radio, Megadeth tour manager Jim Carroccio states: "Dave Mustaine is not responsible for booting Newsted off [the Soundwaves festival]. Dave did not put him on the bill and did not take him off the bill.
"Dave [Mustaine] submitted a list of bands he was comfortable with and the promoter ignored the list. Dave and Jason are friends [and] this has blown up into something silly."
The dates to now feature Megadeth, Whitechapel, and Volbeat are as follows:
TUE 25 FEBRUARY - SYDNEY, ROUNDHOUSE – Lic A/A
THU 27 FEBRUARY - MELBOURNE, THE FORUM – 18+

Olympia, Washington-based 20 Buck Spin announces today the induction of mysterious entity, Dead In The Manger. The label comments:
"Very little information was provided to 20 Buck Spin regarding Dead In The Manger when the label was initially contacted about a release, only that the band delivers a mix of depressive black metal and grind (which seemed on paper an impossible combination) and that the intention is to leave a feeling of unease and despondency in the listener.
"Nonetheless, a cursory listen to the outfit's debut MLP, 'Transience,' leaves no doubt that Dead In The Manger succeeds handily in creating music both brutally violent and coldly agonizing. More...
Ronnie James Dio is one of the most beloved figures in rock history. His gifts, both as a singer and songwriter, are instantly recognizable, whether he was with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, or leading Dio. Austin classic rock sensation Scorpion Child has added a new face to the line-up: drummer Jon “Charn” Rice, formerly of Job For A Cowboy. Scorpion Child bassist & founding member Shaun Avants shares the following:
“Scorpion Child is excited to announce some recent line-up changes within the camp. As with any team or group, decisions must be made that are vital to the overall attitude, creativity, quality, and lifespan of a shared and common goal. Any decision we make is and always will be for the betterment and advancement of this band.
"That being said, we have decided to move forward as a four piece - at least for now - as we say goodbye to our friends [rhythm guitarist] Tom Frank and [former drummer] Shawn Alvear. We wish them the very best in any and all of their future endeavors and it should be noted that their contributions were not without their merits.
"We are pleased to announce that Jon 'Charn' Rice (ex-Job For A Cowboy, 1349) will be taking the position as our new drummer. He exemplifies ambition, hard work, and the general personality that gives this band the potential to function as a tighter unit. His handful of performances with Nonpoint and the Shiprocked cruise earlier this year only solidified our faith in his abilities and filled us with an overwhelming excitement for the coming possibilities.
"Thank you to all of our fans for weathering the seas of change. We'll see you all very soon. Bigger. Better. Faster. Stronger.”
Before heading out to the U.K. for nine shows starting March 16th, Scorpion Child will have a showcase at this year’s SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas with a date & time coming shortly. Catch the band live:
