The mosh pit: where metal brethren gather together to get out their aggression and rock out to some of the world's best music.
Every week we check in with metal bands and fans from around the globe to get their favorite Pit Stories. This week we have a double-dose of pit mayhem from Brazilian all-female thrash band Nervosa.
First up, vocalist/bassist Fernanda Lira shares several tales of her many accumulated war wounds from mosh pits:
I love the moshpit! That's why in every show of ours, I'm always encouraging people to mosh, stage dive and sometimes I even join them! But most of my funny stories involving mosh pits happened when I was watching concerts - and I always end up injuring myself really bad!
At a Municipal Waste gig once, me and many other girls were invited to join and headbang on the stage and right after, the singer asked us to stage dive all at once, and I ended up falling from the stage and injuring my back really hard! The same happened at a Ratos de Porão gig: I jumped from the stage, nobody held me, and I smashed my face into the ground. My eyebrows started bleeding and were seriously swollen and I couldn't walk in a normal way for almost 2 weeks because something wrong happened with my knees, haha!
And the last one I remember and the most serious on, happened at a Krisiun gig where I tried to stage dive and when I was about to ask people to put me on my feet, a guy simply didn't hold me and I fell and beat the back of my head on the ground. My eyes saw a completely white blank and I almost fainted out. A HUGE bump rose on my head and after one week feeling dizzy and having strange symptoms related to my vision and hearing capacities, I went to the doctor and he said I beat my head so bad that I developed labyrinthitis!
Nervosa guitarist Prika Amaral also adds these comments about her most memorable show experience:
Last year, we played in Macapá. The show was insane, the stage was too high and a boy was pushed by the head by a security guard into the mosh pit where a tug of war was made. When we got off the stage, many people pulled our hair, we couldn't walk, the fans wanted pictures and signatures and to take my guitar. It was crazy!
Nervosa's new album "Victim of Yourself" is due out this coming March 11th in North America via Napalm Records. Check out a teaser trailer for the release below. More...
Eric Calderone has released a new video clip covering the Robocop theme, which can be heard below, and he also comments:
"So as many of you may or may not know, the new Robocop is about to hit very shortly. The original Robocop is one of my favorite movies of all time. Not to mention, my very first rated R flick.
"What else can I say? Robocop was flawless and Mr. Poledouris is a boss. Such a great and characterizing theme. Thank you guys so much for everything. It means the world. Big ups for all the suggestions, comments, subs, messages, donations, fan art, and support."

Swedish technical death metal act Soreption has leaked another track from forthcoming new long player "Engineering The Void."
Check out the new track "The Nature of Blight" in the player below, courtesy of Invisible Oranges. Soreption will drop "Engineering The Void" upon the masses on February 18th, 2014. The track listing is as follows:
Stick To Your Guns will enter the studio on February 5th with producer John Feldmann (The Used, Story of the Year) to start tracking a new full-length album. Founding member/vocalist Jesse Barnett states:
"Personally this seems like the next logical step for our band. The five of us aren't a group that has ever been OK with doing just enough or even entertain the thought of doing the same thing over and over again. We like to push ourselves. We like to ask ourselves, now what? What can we do to be better?
"With all of that being said, we are very excited about going into the studio with John. He has proven his expertise in punk music and that he takes bands and gets the absolute best out of them. I think I speak for all of us when I say the band that comes out of the studio will not be the same band going in.
"We will be bigger, faster, harder and more crushing. This is what we strive for and this is what John will help us achieve."
Stick To Your Guns will hit the road in March on the "Fuck The Message" tour to close out most recent album, "Diamond." For additional information head over to the band's Facebook profile.
Colorado-based metal act Allegaeon has entered the recording studio, once again returning to Flatline Audio with producer Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage).
This is third time the band has worked with Otero, who previously worked with on the Allegaeon's self-titled EP and then Metal Blade debut, "Fragments of Form and Function."
New music and art will be made available as they are finalized, and fans can keep up with the band's updates from the studio at Facebook here. The band will also be streaming live video chats throughout the recording process via YouTube, so check back for updates!
Guitarist Greg Burgess comments: "We here in the Allegaeon camp are very excited to begin the process of putting our new record to tape. Returning to Flatline Audio with our friend and producer Dave Otero feels like we've come back home. With our newest additions of guitarist Michael Stancel, and drummer Brandon Park, we're embarking on our most ambitious album to date."
Bassist Corey Archuleta adds: "Allegaeon is a new machine…a better one. And finally, we are doing a new record. Not only are there the 'million note a minute songs,' there are new grooves and great pieces fantastically put together by Burgess and Stancel. Hearty and robust symphonic compositions by Joe Ferris also accompany the album--and are beyond awesome. As 50% of the rhythm section, I am also beyond happy that Brandon Park is my other half on this album."

Metal On Metal Records has inked a deal with HI-GH, a young speed/thrash metal band which was formed in Rome in 2012. The band has previously released the "Loud Frequences on Planet Jupiter" EP (2012) and full-length album "Night Dances" (2013). The label commented:
"These Italian maniacs convinced us not only with their music but also with their attitude, full of enthusiasm and dedication. We haven't seen their show personally yet (only the live clips that are on YouTube), but we have met a few times, once at their rehearsal. The feeling was just right, about everything. As far as their style goes, it could be best described as furious, relentless speed/thrash metal with punk influences, and spiced up from time to time with '60s and '70s space rock/psychedelia, so you could call them a crossover band in a way.
"Their music is raw and gritty but also more than just competent technically... the melodic and flashy solos are the best proof. It's totally old school, but at the same time sounds fresh and definitely very personal, a true joy to listen to. Imagine an explosive mixture of Motorhead, Venom, 'Kill'Em All' era Metallica, 'Show No Mercy' era Slayer (especially when it comes to the vocals), Inepsy, Tank, Exciter, Blessed Death, G.B.H., D.R.I. and Hawkwind.. Actually, don't imagine. Just listen to the full 'Night Dances' album that the band put on their YouTube channel, and see (hear) for yourself!"
HI-GH is currently working on the songs for a second album, which the band plans to record in April. "Till Death and After" is scheduled for a release this July. More...
One Year Later has issued the following announcement about releasing an upcoming album:
"We are very happy to announce that our second full-length album, 'Life Between the Lies,' will be released on April 22, 2014 on CI Records. Preorder bundles are available at this location. Watch the lyric video for "Phantom" below!"
Having just returned from the 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise in the Caribbean, Sweden's The Haunted is now debuting another new song from the recently released 3-track single, "Eye Of The Storm" (reviewed here).
The single marks The Haunted's recording debut of the revamped line-up announced last summer, featuring founding members Jensen (Guitars) and Jonas Björler (Bass), returning members Marco Aro (Vocals) and Adrian Erlandsson (Drums), as well as new member Ola Englund (Guitars).
The "My Enemy" video clip (featuring rehearsal room footage) can be viewed below, courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting.com. The band also comments:
"After having found our feet as a band onstage at last week's 70,000 Tons Of Metal festival, it is now time to bring the mayhem home to Scandinavia. First show of the tour will hit Gothenburg (I mean, where else, right?) followed up by a string of shows in Sweden, Norway and Finland. The reception of the three new songs from our newly released EP 'Eye Of The Storm' at 70K was amazing, so expect them to be played, together with a truckload of other hard-hitters. We can't wait to get back out there playing shows again, and we'll make sure it has been worth your while sticking around for us through thick and thin. See you all somewhere along the road!" More...
Winnipeg death thrash outfit Endless Chaos is proud to offer a next brutal track and free download for "Sacrificial Ritual," taken from the forthcoming EP "Rejected Atrocity."
This new aural assault follows the release of the title track (still available here) and is the second of three free tracks to be presented from the EP before its March 4th release date. In addition to the EP being available digitally, limited edition vinyl (200 copies) will be released on Filth Regime Records at a later date in March.
Vocalist Jordan Dorge comments on the new track: "'Sacrificial Ritual' gives a further glimpse into the perverse mind of Endless Chaos and really showcases the band's true sound. Evil, vicious and unrelenting. With heavy inspiration from Clive Barker's Hellraiser, dive down into the hell and listen to Sacrificial Ritual."
German blackened thrash metal veterans Outrage have a new video out for the title track off their upcoming album "We the Dead." The clip was filmed and edited by Jan Sames and can be seen below. Metal On Metal Records also comments:
"Outrage from Pforzheim, Germany formed in 1983 and belonged to the first wave of black metal, which now would be described as black/thrash. They stayed under the radar for many years, remaining one of the most obscure bands in this genre, in spite of releasing 4 demos in the '80s and putting out 6 CDs after the reunion in 2004. In 2011 they signed with Metal on Metal Records which released 'Go to Hell,' an album consisting of re-recorded versions of their early demos songs.
"'We the Dead,' the band's 7th full-length album is slated for late April release through Metal on Metal Records. According to the founder and guitarist, Udo 'The Bringer of Doom,' the new songs are in the same style as those he wrote in the '80s, but the new album will be more raw sounding than 'Go to Hell.'" Metal on Metal Records has announced the signing of German metal act Doomshine. The band's second full-length album "The Piper at the Gates of Doom" was released in 2010 by Massacre Records.
Songs have now been composed for a third, currently untitled, album and the band is focusing on writing the lyrics and preparing to start recording in the spring. Timmy Holz, the band's vocalist and guitarist, said:
"Several years after our first contact with Jowita we are unbelievably happy about our future cooperation with Metal on Metal Records. Finally we were sealing the deal by handshake at Malta Doom Metal Festival last autumn. Today we know for sure: the spoken word is sufficient. THAT is Metal! This year we are focusing on the recordings of our third album which will see the light of day in 2015. Seven songs, massive and melodic, doom and shine. We are very curious to witness the evolution of our new creations, and we're looking forward to see this new Doomshine CD labelled with the Metal on Metal Records logo. Shine on!!!" More...
Scottish pirate act Alestorm has entered LSD-Studios in Germany with producer Lasse Lammert to record the fourth studio album to be entitled "Sunset on the Golden Age." The album is targeted for release in summer of 2014 via Napalm Records.
The update on the band's Facebook Page reads: "Today, the next chapter in the Alestorm tale begins! The band has just arrived at Lasse Lammert's LSD-Studio in Lübeck, Germany, to record their 4th full-length album, which will be titled 'Sunset on the Golden Age.'
'This is gonna blow all your expectations as to what an Alestorm album is all about' comments Christopher Bowes (vocals/keytar). 'Over the past couple of years we've been writing non-stop, and we've come up with a ton of badass material. Some of this stuff is catchiest pirate party anthems you've ever heard, with choruses that'll make you want to raise a pint of rum up high and sing your guts out. And for the fans of the epic stuff, we've got some songs that hit the 10-minute mark, with lyrical themes about historical events and crazy mythological madness. It's gonna rule!'
"Expect more updates and drunkenness over the coming months, and a release through Napalm Records sometime in the early summer!" More...
Twelve Foot Ninja has premiered a video for the song “Ain’t That A Bitch," which can be seen below. The following press release was also issued about the clip:
"With the promise to create an action-packed and gory tale of retribution against an internet troll, the Australian group turned to fans in an effort to crowd fund over $45,000 for the making of the video. As a result, Twelve Foot Ninja broke a world record, successfully crowd funding the most ambitious financial target for a music video or short film.
"The band pulled out all of the stops for their highly anticipated video, calling on Penthouse Magazine 'Pet' Madison Rhys, a 7ft Alaskan brown bear and a prosthetics make-up artist who worked on the film The Hobbit.
"Also appearing in the video are members of American metal band Periphery, who became good friends and strong supporters of Twelve Foot Ninja after touring Australia together in 2012. While Twelve Foot Ninja doesn’t condone violence in the real world, the members wanted to create a video that portrayed the ultimate revenge fantasy to give a voice to victims of cyber bullying."
When asked what an internet troll is, guitarist Steve “Stevic” MacKay shares “The difference between a troll and critic is that there is a line internet trolls step over – it’s the line that separates constructive disagreement from vitriolic words with malicious intent.” More...
