War From A Harlots Mouth is currently offering the track "Vertigo" as a free download at Bandcamp here. "Vertigo" is taken from the band's most recent and final full-length, "Voyeur." You can also stream the track below.
After 8 years, 4 full-length albums, and several splits and EPs in between, War From A Harlots Mouth announced an indefinite hiatus and completed a final tour of the band's native Germany. The two week tour saw the band play sold out shows before bidding the fans farewell. More...
Revolver Magazine has premiered a new music video from We Butter the Bread with Butter for the song “Ohne Herz,” which can be seen below.
"Ohne Herz" is taken off the "Goldkinder" album (reviewed here) and guitarist Marcel Neumann comments on the clip:
“The idea of creating a music video with live-footage was always in our mind as we are filming almost everything when we are on tour. These fans are the reason for doing this, so we wanted to give something back - something which involves them directly.” More...
There's a new sound exploding out of Calgary, AB's rising metal scene with Every Hour Kills - a new modern melodic metal band featuring ex-Divinity guitarist Sacha Laskow, bassist Brent Stutsky (Breach of Trust), drummer Rob Shawcross (ex- Out Of Your Mouth), and vocalist Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster (Walk As Chaos, Out of Your Mouth, Autobody).
Over the last two years, the band has been busy in the lab working on recording new songs to be unleashed to the masses. Last year saw the band's first single "Deliver Us" exposed to the world and set the path for next release "Chosen," produced by Joey Sturgis (Asking Alexandria, Emmure, Of Mice & Men, We Can As Romans). Give the song a listen below.
Guitarist Sacha Laskow comments: "It was an awesome experience working with an outside producer this time, especially one as talented as Joey. Usually we've done everything ourselves, so it was really interesting getting an outside perspective from someone we respect. We are all beyond stoked with the results; Joey definitely added some of his magic to our vision and took the song up to a higher level. Lyrically the song is basically about rising up in the face of adversity, struggling to make our goals and dreams a reality amidst the chaos of the world and other people trying to drag us down. We are all 'Chosen' for something, to take our own path and create our own lives." More...
Metal Blade Records has partnered up with Norway's Indie Recordings to release albums from the label's ever expanding roster.
Last year, Sahg released "Delusions of Grandeur" via Indie Recordings, and now Metal Blade will officially drop the album in North America on February 18th.
"Delusions Of Grandeur is a concept record about a person, whose delusions of grandeur escalate to the level where they consume him completely," explains Sahg's Olav Iversen (vocals, guitar). "From becoming increasingly psychopathic and dominant, he loses touch with everyone around him and isolates into his own imaginary, psychotic world, where he becomes the almighty ruler of the universe. As he stands on the highest peak of his domain and beholds all that he has conquered, he suddenly slips off the edge and floats away, weightless. Helpless and stripped of all power, he drifts further into the open space, until he disappears into the darkness. It's an album about how desire for power and property can distort and destroy who we are."

Metal Blade Records has teamed up with Revolver Magazine to debut the brand new single "Mescaline II" in preparation for the upcoming full-length release, "Endless," by Chicago, IL based psychedelic rock/doom act Mount Salem. Hear the new track below, and the band comments:
"Mescaline II is our follow up to our instrumental track Mescaline. We always wanted to expand on the idea of that song, but liked the way it was so writing another song to compliment it made sense when the EP expanded into a full-length album."
"Endless" will be released on March 4th, 2014 via Metal Blade Records and includes two brand-new tracks not featured on the original EP that was self-released by the band in 2012. The track listing is as follows:

The Baltimore based D-beat punks in Old Lines have officially announced they’ve signed with Huntington Beach independent label No Sleep Records. The band is currently writing a next record, which should be out later this year.
Old Lines was formed in 2010 by ex-Pulling Teeth/Ruiner guitarist Mitch Roemer and drummer Jake Berry, who after sifting through a slew of musicians brought in Pat Martin on bass and Matt Taylor on vocals.
Musically, the band’s sound blurs the lines of crust punk and hardcore with hints of metal and doom. Lyrically, the band’s agenda is purely political and social. Political corruption, capitalism, and social and environmental injustices help stoke the fires behind the band’s intense sound and snarling lyrics. More...
In anticipation of the February 27th worldwide release of the feature film, “As The Palaces Burn”, Randy Blythe and Chris Adler will appear on VH1 Classic’s “That Metal Show” on February 22nd, airing at 11 PM.
This will be the first Lamb Of God visit to “That Metal Show.” The host of the show, Eddie Trunk, conducts the 30 minute Q&A that will follow all showings of “As The Palaces Burn” in theaters and venues.

German deathgrinders Milking The Goatmachine have released a lyric video to one of the songs from their upcoming album "The Greatest Hits - Covered In Milk," which will be released on March 28th via Noiseart Records.
Now a lyric video for the song "Ohne Krimi Geht Die Mimi Nie Ins Bett" (Mimi never goes to bed without a crime thriller) can be seen below. The song is a cover version from German entertainer Bill Ramsey.
The band comments: "Choosing the songs it was very important for us that we can have fun. And one of the fun songs definitely is 'Ohne Krimi Geht Die Mimi Nie Ins Bett' by Bill Ramsey. He is a super entertainer and the lyrics are this stupid that they are already good again. It just fits to us.
"We have often been asked if we don't want to release a cover album," the band explains. During live shows Milking The Goatmachine is known not only for characteristic goat masks but also for cover tracks. "Our cover songs are very popular among the people and we really enjoy playing them every time and give them our own style. So we thought by ourselves, why not doing a full album with them? We have been crushing our horns for weeks and trying to find the right tracks." More...
When a very attractive, scantily clad young woman claims she loves metal, get a second opinion.
Yeah, I said that.
And I’m not claiming you’re all fakes, female metal fans. I know you’re out there. Most of us can personally attest to that. I’m talking about the posturing selfie types.
You know the ones. They lurk online, Facebooking, Tweeting, posing in metal-looking gear with an Impaled Nazarene logo prominently displayed, skin showing, pouty siren’s call etched across the face.
Sometimes they actually go to the lengths of posting music videos, and when they go there, they go big. “ROOOOTS, BLOODY ROOOOTS <3 METALCHICK FOR LIFE <3 DEATH TO ALL BUT METAL” and so on. Methinks the ladies doth protest too much.
With a few exceptions, these girls do this for one primary reason: they know how to attract men via the path of least resistance. Make that ZERO resistance. Metal is an overwhelmingly male-dominated genre, fostering a “homoerotic relationship between bands and their fans,” as former Sepultura merchbabe Marta Svetek puts it.
So when such a photo goes up, the hungry dogs swarm for their scraps, as it were. You don’t even need to read the Tolstoy-length comment thread to guess its simple pig-swooning gist. How could some girls resist?
A female musician I spoke with, who wishes to remain anonymous (more on that later), recalled of playing with her former metal band:
“Crowds of girls would come into the club between sets and prey on all the guys, then go outside for nearly the band’s entire set, probably blasting Miley or One Direction in their earbuds. I actually remember talking to some girl about a band whose T-shirt she was wearing. She said, ‘Oh, this band? I just thought the shirt was cute.’”
This tactic has suckered many a metalhead, and many enterprising folks have seized on it. Why else would countless popular metal sites and blogs hire “spokesmodels” to push their merchandise? Why else would niche custom fashion lines like Toxic Vision gain such a mammoth following? Why else would 70,000 Tons Of Metal hire “pool girls?”
Why, in other words, does metal culture virtually have to IMPORT hot women like Julius Caesar providing for the appetites of his legions?
Simple: because metalheads (i.e., dudes) like to stare at girls’ tits and asses, and some girls, spurred on by the “hot groupie fantasy,” (in Svetek’s words) like to provide such sights. Capitalism, baby.
I’m not saying I’m above all this, and I’m not exactly judging the arrangement. I believe in the free market. However, I don’t have to embrace everything the market produces, and one very dubious aspect of this Budweiser-ad approach in metal is when it manifests in the music itself. More...
San Antonio's Silence the Messenger has issued the following announcement about canceling upcoming tour dates:

Slough Feg will release new album, "Digital Resistance," on Tuesday, February 18th throughout North America.
In anticipation of this release, the band has partnered up with Pitchfork.com to give fans a chance to hear the entire album before it is released. Stream all ten tracks at this location.
"Digital Resistance" was recorded with Justin Weis (who produced the album with vocalist/guitarist Mike Scalzi) at Trakworx in South San Francisco from January-October 2013 and marks the band's first new studio album since 2010's "The Animal Spirits."
When asked if the new album was a concept album, singer and vocalist Mike Scalzi explained that "Digital Resistance" is a concept album in the sense that The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper" is a concept album. "It has somewhat of a consistent lyrical theme that runs through several of the songs, but not every song--- it is not a concept album in the sense that our "Traveller" album is." More...

Atlanta’s Volume IV, featuring Joe Carpenter of Nihilist, has just announced the release of Ripple Music debut album, "Long In The Tooth," which will be coming out in the U.S. on March 11th, and is scheduled to hit the European stores on March 14th of 2014. Ripple Music comments on the band:
"With equal parts elegant beauty and steamrolling aggression, Volume IV serve up a piece of ear candy for the ages with Long In The Tooth. This first release with Ripple Music is a concise, 36-minute thrill ride of swampy metal heroics, featuring heavy grooves, classic bluesy stoner riffs, and an overall impending sense of doom.
"These boys bring back the old school attitude of musical sensibility, working hard to master your instrument, and taking pride in creating a wide pallet of musical styles: Thunderous drumming locked tight within the pocket, bass guitar providing a dense foundation for the thick guitar and gritty yet melodic vocals that lay on top. In a world where everything is mechanized, click-tracked and auto-tuned, Volume IV does it the only way, the honest way, straight from the gut, which is what we need to make music human again and separate the men from the boys. Extol has released a digital deluxe edition of the band's self-titled 2013 album. The new edition contains the exclusive new track "Sting of Death," as well as a new digital booklet containing never-before-seen artwork.
In addition to the release of the deluxe edition, there has also been an update from Animidas Productions on the release of the Extol documentary film:
"We've had our hands extremely full with post production and we´re now very close to a finished film! Thanks to many of you, this project has become a journey we dared not hope for 3 years ago. We have just signed the first (of hopefully many) broadcasting deals for television and we have started submitting the film to film festivals all over the globe.
"A DVD release is scheduled for the end of 2014, but we'll make it worth the wait! The TV/festival version is 70 minutes long. The DVD will be a much longer extended version, and will contain epic bonus material from the band on a second disc!
"Thank you so much for your patience and support. We´ll keep you posted on where and when the film is screened."
Extol has also recently announced that the band will be playing some live shows for the first time in seven years:
"It is now 20 years since Extol played the very first concert - in Sandvika, Norway May 17th 1994 to be precise. We want to celebrate this anniversary with some very few exclusive live shows later on this year!
"The last concert Extol did was in 2006, so it's been a while. We are really looking forward to getting on a stage again, playing both new and old songs, and of course meeting our fans and friends! Waiting more than 7 years is just way too long!
"Extol will be playing Gullbrannafestivalen in Sweden and Skjaergards Music Festival and SÅ2014, both in Norway."
In honor of her 30 year stage jubilee, Doro Pesch will celebrate with fans on two separate shows this coming May 2nd May 3rd, 2014 at CCD Stadthalle at her hometown Düsseldorf. She comments:
"We came up with something very special for our 30 years stage anniversary, with two totally different shows, that cover the entire creative spectrum of my band and me – from emotional and soft, to hard, raw and heavy.”
Nuclear Blast also issued the following press release about the special performances: "The first anniversary show on May 2nd will be dedicated to Doro and the Classic Night Orchestra. Accompanied by brass, strings and her band, Doro will perform her most beautiful, emotional ballads like ‘Für Immer‘, ‘1000x Gelebt‘ or ‘Let Love Rain On Me‘ in the stylish surroundings of CCD Stadthalle.
"At this night big hits like ‘All We Are,‘ ‘Metal Tango,‘ or ‘Burn It Up‘ can’t be missing, that shine even brighter as they now receive a classical overdo by the orchestra. Fans have been waiting for this to happen for the past ten years, since Doro’s last performance with the Classic Night Orchestra was in 2004, after her album 'Classic Diamonds' has been praised by fans and critics alike.
"At the second anniversary show on May 3rd, Doro will let out the rock lady in her. On this night the blonde superstar will travel through all of her 30 years of an incredibly successful carrier, delivering a three hours high voltage set with all things Rock’n’Roll she has to offer. Fans can look forward to all hits, hymns and many surprises. On both days Doro will welcome several fantastic guests that will give their honors to the Metal-Queen on this big event. Amongst them of course Biff Byford, vocalist of legendary band Saxon as well as Chris Caffrey (Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Udo Dirkschneider (U.D.O; ex-Accept) and Blind Guardian's Hansi Kürsch." Eden's Curse is disappointed to announce the departure of Pete Newdeck. The band issued the following statement:
"Pete has been the drummer of the group since it's formation in 2006 and has been a key member of the writing team during those eight years together. However he announced to the band just before Christmas that it was his intention to leave the group due to personal and family commitments as well as wishing to concentrate on Tainted Nation, whom he fronts as their vocalist, and his activities as the drummer for UK AOR act Newman."
Bassist and founding member Paul Logue comments, "We are extremely disappointed to lose such a talent as Pete, but fully understand his reasons for moving on. We are very proud of what he has built with Tainted Nation and in particular for stepping out from behind the kit with such consummate ease. Without question we will all remain great friends with Pete and wish him and Tainted Nation nothing but the greatest of success for the future ahead."
Pete himself adds: "This was a difficult decision to make, yet one that was made easier due to the compassion, understanding and support I was shown by the other guys in Eden's Curse. It's basically a case of having an array of commitments, some personal and some musical, that I felt I had to prioritize. I am sure the band will not see this as a setback and I wish them the continued success they deserve and to build on the acclaimed album we just released. More...
