Nekhrah Streaming New Album's Title Track
On the eve of the band's performance at Power of the Night Festival, Cypriot death metallers Nekhrah reveal the title track for impending debut album, "Cosmic Apostasy," which can be heard below. Previously known as Impalement, the Mediterranean act will self-release this album on September 29th, 2017.
Hailing from Nicosia, Cyprus the four-piece group distinguished itself locally through a signature blend of spine-crushing riffs and melody topped with distinctive vocals. New album "Cosmic Apostasy" was mastered by Alan Douches of West West Side Music and artwork was handled by Maciej Kamuda.
The band name Nekhrah is an Anglicized version of the Greek word “????a” which means “death” or “deadness” and/or “emptiness” in Greek. The philosophy behind the band is Nihilistic. That is to say, the belief that existence is meaningless and that there is no inherent meaning in anything we do, think, or experience. The lyrics revolve heavily around misanthropy, cataclysm, self-destruction and a desire of non-existence. More...
Arkaik Reveals New Album
Progressive tech death collective Arkaik will unleash "Nemethia" on September 29th via Unique Leader Records. A continuation on the conceptual saga of the two previous releases, on "Nemethia" the journey of Cyrix expands into new landscapes.
The band's fourth full-length offering for Unique Leader was produced, engineered, and mixed by Zack Ohren at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California, and features guest appearances by Joe Haley of Psycroptic, Arde Ostowari formerly of Burning The Masses, Stephen Paulson of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, former Arkaik guitarist Craig Peters, as well as Gabe Seeber from The Kennedy Veil performing drums for the entire album.
The cover art and booklet was designed by artist Tyler Space, who worked with the band on previous release, "Lucid Dawn." Said founding vocalist Jared Christianson of the record's concept:
"This album fully sets the stage and builds on the story we started developing two albums ago with Cyrix and Metamorphignition. We've begun weaving together our own mythos of synchronicity and symbolism to encapsulate and distill the journey of the alchemist through the gnostic dream. It attempts to reveal through storytelling and allegory that we can experience real freedom and discover the inner treasures that guide us to who, what, and where we want to be, if we are willing to pull back the veil of lies blinding us from the truth of our nature.
"If I could sum up everything we've done so far, my personal journey and our message as a band in three words it would be the lyric 'pain to power' from the song 'Telegnosis.' To me, it's about transmuting your struggles into strengths and refining your personal power and will. I really enjoyed making this album and hope people dig it!" More...
Pyrrhon Unveils New Album
Continuing to shapeshift while using unorthodox songwriting techniques that border on the incomprehensible, avant-garde extreme metal quartet Pyrrhon returns with "What Passes For Survival," due out August 8th.
Throatruiner Records comments: "Dense, volatile, and drenched in manic ferocity, 'What Passes For Survival' is an aural challenge that refuses to adhere to genre conventions, merging strategic orchestrated bursts of death metal chaos with expanses of unhinged improvisation.
"The latest stage of Pyrrhon's metamorphosis is one that demands repeated audio submersion from the listener, and satisfies those craving sonic extremity that pushes limits. Recorded live, mixed, and mastered by Colin Marston at The Thousand Caves, the album features artwork by Caroline Harrison."

Overoth Posts "The Keeper" Video
Irish death dealers Overoth recently revealed details for the follow-up to the band's debut album, "Kingdom Of Shadows."
With no less than ten tracks and over 40 minutes of extreme metal laden with orchestration, and artwork from none other than Will Simpson (Game Of Thrones, DC Comics), the quartet's forthcoming opus will be titled "The Forgotten Tome" and is set for release on September 22nd, 2017 via Hostile Media.
Today the band unveils a first song and video culled from the album. Check out "The Keeper" below. Vocalist Andy Ennis comments:
"This song was written in the realms of dark fantasy and it was that essence that we wanted to capture on camera. It's the story of a prisoner and his torturer... more a glimpse into this story as it leaves more questions than answers. The detainee awakens into what appears to be a nightmare. He is chained to the walls in a dank stone cell and has no memory of how he came to be there. It has all the sights, smells and sounds of a torture chamber. Any thoughts of escape, of home are crushed when he meets his nemesis, 'The Keeper'." More...
Centuries Of Decay Posts "Wings Of Death"
Toronto based quintet Centuries Of Decay will unleash a debut, self-titled concept album this coming August 4th, 2017. Drummer Derrick Doucette comments:
"We've often thought about the fragility of civilization throughout history and the idea of events repeating itself. With that in mind, our concept album tells the story of society being born, corrupt and destroyed in an endless cycle. It can be taken as a literal piece of fiction, or even a social commentary. It also comes from more personal issues such as depression, disillusionment and failure."
Today band reveals second single "Wings of Death," a song about religious and political propaganda and how its used to draw lines between people and nations. The lyrical content of this song draws from influences from George Orwell's 1984.
The track was written as two halves, a slower heavier groove, then kicking into fast paced death metal with some vocal harmonies by guitarists Rob McAllister and Devin Doucette. More...
Anubis Gate Posts Album Teaser
Anubis Gate just released the first teaser video for upcoming album "Covered In Black," which is due to drop via Nightmare Records on September 1st.
The album was produced by Kim Olesen and Jacob Hansen, and while its not a concept album, it is what the band describes as a theme album.
Anubis Gate comments: "[Its] about people in dark places. From psychopaths, assassins to the more modern topics of being at the receiving end of what is bad about social media. Topics of lifelong failure and revenge are touched upon. The ten-song-long album has two suites, both consisting of three songs. One has the songs spread here and there on the album, while the other is connected as one long piece if you wish to listen to it that way. Wonderfully old-fashioned and just the way we like it. And it is, we feel, simply the best album we've ever done"

Jag Panzer Posts Lyric Video
U.S. metal crew Jag Panzer released a new lyric video for the song "Far Beyond All Fear" today. The track is taken from forthcoming album "The Deviant Chord."
Guitarist Mark Briody comments: "I wanted the video to be a Jules Verne style adventure, like the kind we grew up with. I always wanted to set the lyric video in the same time period as the cover (late 1800s) so I could give some back story to the album artwork!"
New album "The Deviant Chord" will be available on September 29th, 2017 as a CD digipak (including poster) and double LP colored version as well as for download and streaming. Daydream XI Signs With Sensory Records
Laser's Edge branch Sensory Records today confirms the label's signing of Brazilian outfit Daydream XI, issuing info for the band's second album, "The Circus Of The Tattered And Torn," which is now set for release in September alongside a performance at ProgPower USA.
Previous debut album "The Grand Disguise" was produced by Jens Bogren, head of the world-class Fascination Street studio in Sweden and released in September of 2014 via Power Prog. For follow-up album "The Circus Of The Tattered And Torn," Daydreamm XI embraces the progressive side of music in a dark concept album.
The concept is a metaphor to express that we are drawn to each other more by our weaknesses and our flaws than our strengths and virtues. It's portrayed through a journey, where Phillip, the Circus master, takes his new apprentice, Circe, across the various acts of this Circus. Each song represents a feeling or aspect of human life, channeled by the storyline of each character. More...

Ne Obliviscaris Posts 1st Song From New Album
Ne Obliviscaris today unveils the first track taken from forthcoming opus "Urn," due out October 27th via Season Of Mist and up for pre-order at this location. Check out the video for "Intra Venus" below.
Frontman Tim Charles comments: "After almost three years of honing our craft in every way that we possibly could, we finally present to you the first track from an album of which we could not be more proud of.
"'Urn' feels like the culmination of all our years of hard work; the delivery of everything that we have wanted to create. Music and art as our imaginations see it fit to be. 'Intra Venus' is more concise than much of our work and is in fact the only song on 'Urn' under ten minutes, but one that we feel is a great introduction to the record. We hope that you will enjoy it."
New album "Urn" follow the dark epic "Citadel" from all the way back in 2014 (reviewed here). Stay tuned for full details to arrive shortly. More...

Pit Stories: Escaped Mental Patients
Ready for a killer addition to the ever-expanding Pit Story collection?
This week we've got some crazy tales of a venue that was a little too close to a mental hospital for comfort, but the most outlandish shenanigans to go down there were frequently enacted by the punk and metal kids rather than the escaped patients!
Today's story comes courtesy of incendiary and apocalyptic heavy group Integrity, which just released new album "Howling, for the Nightmare Shall Consume" earlier this month via Relapse Records. The band recalls:
I’m not much for the pit. I always liked watching bands / observing what was going on more than I liked being jostled around a wet slippery floor. I have a lot of great memories of going to see bands play in Toronto when I was growing up. Every weekend my friends and I would take the bus and train downtown to spend the day eating food and buying records before ending up at a show that night. Back then our interests were contained within the more civilized part of the City, but if you were so inclined to travel a few subway stops down the line you would end up in a far more depraved environment. There was only one real reason for us to go there: The Generator.
The Generator was a dive-bar located on the corner of Queen and Ossington that hosted awesome metal / punk / hardcore shows. Also located on the corner of Queen and Ossington was an old mental asylum that never seemed to be able to keep their patients locked in at night. On any given night if you were going to The Generator, you’d be guaranteed to see a mishmash of punks, metalheads, junkies and escaped mental patients. It often made for an interesting time.
Anyways I’ve seen some pretty crazy shows over the years. Whether it’s a barrage of fireworks / burning items flying around, to dudes moshing with a deer carcass ala Tom Green’s get inside the animal skit. I’ve watched shows explode into all-out prison riots ridden with drugs, sex and violence… .you name it. But the most memorable experience to me was seeing Canadian punk legends Dayglo Abortions perform at The Generator.
The club was jammed with a smelly and extremely wasted hybrid of crust-punks, metalheads, and escapees from the Asylum across the street. When Dayglos hit the stage, I wanna say they started with "Fuck My Shit Stinks" and all hell just broke loose. Everyone started pitching their beer bottles at the ceiling so it was constantly raining glass on this uncomfortably packed and hot mess of human bodies. By the time they were done playing, the pit was a mess blood, beer, dirt and drool peppered with tons of broken glass and who knows what else.
When the club let out, it looked like a scene from "Death Wish 3" crossed with "Night Of The Living Dead." A dude with a road-warrior Mohawk-mullet was boning a similar looking girl on the hood of someone’s car. When the poor owner of said vehicle tried to get into his car and go home, the ‘boner’ (or it might have been the ‘bonee’ in an equally gruff / terrifying voice) growled ‘You just keep walking if you know what’s good for ya.'
Many years later, Integrity played in Toronto at a venue that was in the same part of town, and I couldn’t believe the amount of gentrification that took place over the years. It was all boutiques, fancy bars and bistros. My mom and siblings came to the show, and we were eating together at a restaurant that years ago could have been in The Generator’s backyard. I couldn’t help but wonder to myself what the growling car-bone guy was doing at this exact moment years later. I hope it’s something equally as awesome.
Integrity's freshly released album "Howling, For The Nightmare Shall Consume" was recorded and mixed at Developing Nations Studio in Baltimore with mastering handled by Brad Boatright. The band will kick off a Japanese tour in October, and below you can check out a video for album track "Hymn For The Children Of The Black Flame." More...
