Pagan Altar Unveils Final Album

NWOBHM / doom band Pagan Altar will release long-awaited final album, "The Room of Shadows," on CD, cassette, and vinyl through Temple Of Mystery Records on August 24th, 2017. The label comments:

"Pagan Altar is one of the most complete and mystical bands to have emerged from the NWOBHM movement. Mixing '70s proto-doom elements with English folk, hard rock and heavy metal, the band wrote some of the most grandiose songs of the genre on the sinister 'Volume 1' and more recently, 'Lords of Hypocrisy' and 'Mythical & Magical' - influencing a whole generation of doom-obsessed fanatics.

"Originally written 13 years ago, 'The Room of Shadows' has gone through various shapes until finally being completed two years after the tragic passing of beloved frontman Terry Jones, who had been bravely battling cancer for a year prior. This album is not only Pagan Altar’s last record, it also Terry’s very last vocal performance, and picks up where 'Mythical & Magical' left off.

"Admirers of previous works will be pleased to hear that this album is just as timeless, with its epic hard-rocking riffs and enchanting, poetic macabre lyrics of olde. And thus closes the Pagan Altar legacy, which will be with us after forever..."

Pit Stories: Indoor Motorcycle Burnout

All right moshers, its time to return to the pit once more for heavy metal tales of mayhem, misery, and all out mania!

For this week's Pit Story we got in touch with the Miami noisemakers Cave Of Swimmers, who shared a tale of a rather unexpected entrance to the pit.

If anyone has a video clip of the event in question please let us know so we can get it added!

The Florida-base band recalls this crazy tale of a vehicle circling where it doesn't belong from the International Noise Conference:

For the craziest thing we've seen in the pit, we didn't have to go far from our home base: Miami. We were asked to play the International Noise Conference (INC) at Churchill's Pub, and were excited to get to play to a different crowd and to hear some good ass weird music.

It was hot and humid, but more importantly, loud as hell. There was lots of sweat, a few naked people rolling around damp rugs, and unforgiving subwoofer noise blasting all around. We played on the floor, and it was a blast, but nothing could top what happened after our set. Nicky, a familiar face at the venue and all out crazy-dude, was determined to one-up everyone. We had pushed our instruments against the wall to make room for the next act when, out of nowhere, Nicky stormed inside Churchill's and rode right up to the pit, ON HIS MOTORCYCLE.

Everybody stood still, mouths open, waiting to see what he was gonna happen. He proceeded to turn on his bike back on and perform a full on tire burnout in the middle of the floor. Bear in mind, there are no windows or only a few far off doors. The fumes filled the room. Some people ran away, others couldn't get enough and inched closer, dangerously close. Soon he was gone behind the cloud carbon monoxide, and as if his leaving sucked out all the noise from the room, it was actually quiet.

Needless to say, the room had to be cleared and aired out before things could get back up again, but for an act to render INC quiet, we were glad we got to see that in person.

Cave Of Swimmers just dropped new 7" release "The Sun" earlier this month and you can hear a song off that release below, along with a music video off previous album "Reflection." Follow the band over at Facebook here. More...

Child Bite Gearing Up For Tour With Syk

Housecore Records recording artists Child Bite and Syk will join forces later this week for a European live takeover. The journey will commence on July 21st in Milano, Italy, and rampage its way through nineteen cities, concluding August 12th in Plzen, Czech Republic.

The trek will mark the final performances for both Child Bite guitarist Brandon Sczomak and drummer Jeff Kraus, who joined the band in 2010 and 2014 respectively. Child Bite's remaining tours for the year will feature guitarist Jeremy Waun from Detroit-based experimental punk metallers Reverend and previous Child Bite drummer Ben Moore, who played with the band from 2011 to 2013.

Comments frontman Shawn Knight, "It has been four years since our first European tour, so we are plenty ready to get back over there and freak some people out. [Housecore Records head, Philip] Anselmo introduced us to the music of Syk a year or two back and we were immediately intrigued. Both bands are kind of misfits so I believe we'll get along just fine! Like a monstrous, eight-headed peanut butter and jelly sandwich wreaking havoc across the land..." More...

Subterranean Masquerade Posts "Nomad"

Six weeks prior to releasing upcoming album "Vagabond," Israeli / Norwegian prog metal band Subterranean Masquerade releases the lyric video for new single "Nomad," which is the second track of the upcoming opus.

Tomer Pink (guitars) comments: "'Nomad' is one of the earliest tracks written for 'Vagabond.' It's heavy, progressive, mixing all the elements from which this album is made of and kicks ass live ;) The lyrics tell the story of visiting a far away place, trying to run away from inside demons until eventually facing them."

The lyric video was created with the talent of Rafael Ortega. With the band now signed to the Swedish label Vicisolum Records for a two album deal, "Vagabond" is set for release on September 1st.

Subterranean Masquerade features members of Orphaned Land and Green Carnation, mixing prog rock with psychedelic 70's sounds and full force death metal. The album was mixed by Christer Andre Cederberg (Anathema, Tristania, etc.) and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios. The artwork was created by Ben Danzig and Travis Smith. Afterbirth Posts New Song

"The Time Traveler's Dilemma," the impending debut from New York death metal collective Afterbirth, will see release next week via Unique Leader Records. In advance of its release, today new song "Sifting Through The Sands Of The Unholy" is offered up for streaming below.

"Originally, this song was always intended to be an instrumental," states guitarist Cody Drasser. "Even when we had our original, pioneering death metal vocalist Matt Duncan in the band and I was preparing the song to show to the rest of the members, it always had a sense, to me at least, of being a long, epic, and atmospheric progressive death metal track that lent itself more to mental imagery and inner wanderings than needing any particular lyrical vision. Conceptually, I had always been reminded of the horrific ambience and terror of H.P. Lovecraft's 'The Nameless City' when I was piecing the song together."

Cody goes on to say, "The song title itself arose from a late-night death metal talk with a friend of mine many years ago and it always stuck in my head as being particularly inventive and memorable. Musically, it springs from inspiration guided by my early love for thrash and heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden, Kreator, Megadeth, Metallica, etc. as I wanted to capture and evoke the aura and spirit that those bands stirred up in my young psyche with their adventurous, legendary songwriting, especially when it came to some of their more extended, and epic song passages. For a long time it did exist as the instrumental version. After Matt's departure from the band and new vocalist Will Smith coming on board, we all spoke about the idea of perhaps adding lyrics to the song; while I might have been slightly hesitant at first, Will presented ideas to the band that coincided with my own personal interpretations that were a perfect fit for the song and honestly too good to ignore just for the sake of keeping the track strictly instrumental." Honeymoon Disease Announces New Album

Honeymoon Disease will unleash new album "Part Human, Mostly Beast" on the 27th of October via The Sign Records. The Swedish rock quartet’s second album is filled with high voltage pulse, colorful sounds and lots of groovy soul.

The band worked with producer Ola Ersfjord (Imperial State Electric, Primordial, Tribulation, Dead Lord) since the recording of last album "The Transcendence "(Napalm Records), which led up to a recording session with better crafted songs, a more luxurious production and a lot of focus on the vocal arrangements.

During the pre-production, the band and producer Ola Ersfjord found a mutual interest in old soul records. This interest paved the way for a recording session with a focus on strong vocal arrangements with more chorus and soul. Check out first single "Electric Eel" below. Metal Church Recruits New Drummer

Fans that have seen Metal Church live at recent shows in the United States and Europe may have noticed a new face on stage. The guy behind the kit has been none other than Stet Howland, and now that transitional process is complete, Metal Church is happy to announce the addition of Stet Howland as the band’s permanent new drummer.

Vocalist Mike Howe commented: "I am overwhelmed and grateful that Stet has found his way into the fold and I look forward to many successful and joyful performances together."

Guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof added: "We are extremely happy to have Stet as our new engine. He is a fantastic drummer and a great guy to work with. But the hazing shall continue relentlessly!"

Stet Howland shares his excitement about joining Metal Church: "After being home for only a few days from possibly the best tour of my life, I received a conference call from Kurdt and Mike, for a split second I thought to myself 'Oh shit, what did I do?' But my concern quickly turned to an un-removable smile when they asked if I would be interested in being a permanent member of Metal Church.

"It's no secret that Metal Church have always been one of my favourite metal bands and that, in my opinion, they are on the strongest ascent of any band in their genre! And given that the band kicks ass live, has an incredible record label, a rabid fan base, relevant new music, recent Billboard chart positions and first week CD sales that rival multi-platinum acts, my answer was an unwavering 'YES!'
