Satyricon Unveils New Album

Nearly three years in the making, Satyricon has announced that ninth studio album "Deep Calleth Upon Deep" is set for release on the 22nd of September via Napalm Records.

The album was recorded in Oslo, Norway and Vancouver, Canada, during early 2017 and mixed together with revered studio guru Mike Fraser. Frontman Satyr informs us:

"Approaching this release, what I always kept in mind is that either this is the beginning of something new or it's gonna be my last record. If this is going to be the last, then it needs to be something special. If there are more records, then I'd better make sure that this is so different from the last one that it feels like a new beginning. I think it's really, really dark, very spiritual and filled with confidence and energy." More...

Usnea Streams New Single, Issues Album Details

Portland doom quartet Usnea has announced the full details of the third full-length album, "Portals Into Futility." The new single "Lathe In Heaven" can be heard in the player at the bottom. "Portals Into Futility" hits the stores on September 8th as a CD, 2LP and digital download via Relapse Records.

Inspired by dystopian science-fiction and the painful intersection of today's crushing reality, "Portals Into Futility" offers five songs and fifty-six minutes of expertly crafted and elegantly depressive doom/sludge. With an evolved sound of strength and dynamism, Usnea delves more into the worlds of dissonant death metal, varied vocal structures, and cinematic composition, all while maintaining the monumental heaviness, brutality, discord, anger, and mournful melodicism of the previous work. Across dark and brooding peaks and valleys, Usnea reminds us that no matter how many doors are opened to the human species, our self-aggrandizement and hubris all lead to futility.

On the new single, the band commented: "'Lathe Of Heaven' was inspired by the eponymous book by Ursula K. Le Guin. It is a meditation on the blurred line between cognitive reality and delusion wherein the protagonist can change reality through dreaming. A well-intentioned psychologist attempts to corral that power but ends up creating more chaos and suffering. In the end, human arrogance and greed are shown to be the leading contributors to our own doom."

The track listing is:

1. Eidolons And The Increate
2. Lathe Of Heaven
3. Demon Haunted World
4. Pyrrhic Victory
5. A Crown Of Desolation More...

Worhol Signs Publishing Deal With Wormholedeath

American symphonic rock act Worhol has signed a world wide publishing deal with Wormholedeath Records. The band's debut album "The Awakening" will be released worldwide on Friday, July 14th via Imminence Records.

Worhol statement: "When you strive to succeed, paths are created. When you put your soul into your art, doors open. When you build your team, opportunities are endless. We in Worhol are ecstatic to announce that we have signed a world wide publishing deal with WormHoleDeath and look forward to all the things we will accomplish together!"

Worhol was fully formed in 2013 when lead singer Ashley Worhol and her father Larry Worhol decided they wanted to follow their dream together as a team. Both having degrees in music, they knew they had the knowledge and experience it would take to compose the music they’re so passionate about. Larry being the guitarist as well as the orchestral composer, fit in perfectly with Ashley’s trained vocals. The father-daughter team started writing music close to ten years ago and knew they wanted to form a group and write original music to perform worldwide.

With a classical background rooted in both Ashley and Larry, Worhol’s music can be best described as symphonic, theatrical and over the top. Ashley and Larry are kin to Andy Warhol and decided to keep the band name in the family. Once Worhol was set, they reached out and found the rest of the members of the band; Craig Malinowski on bass and Marty Naul on drums.

The track listing for "The Awakening" is:

1. Voices From Above
2. Bowing Before You
3. Time to Say Goodbye
4. Already Forgotten
5. Rage and Revenge
6. In This Town
7. We, The Abused
8. Jurisdiction
9. Is This What's Left of Me? More...

Novareign Signs with M-Theory Audio

For those in the know, Southern California’s Novareign has been steadily and surely building a buzz and reputation in recent years. The group has become a fixture with energy-abounding live shows filled with nonstop shredding guitar interplay and powerful traditional metal vocals. Honing the attack and lineup, the band is now ready to take it internationally with the upcoming debut full-length through M-Theory Audio, a label pleased to bring another amazing and promising young band to the greater masses.

"I’ve long been intrigued by the talent and potential of this band," explains M-Theory Audio founder Marco Barbieri. "Coming to know them through their guitarist Balmore Lemus (an early member of Exmortus and touring guitarist for Warbringer), I’ve watched this young band’s development. Upon starting M-Theory Audio I knew that Novareign was a band I wanted to have on the label’s roster. They exemplify the vision I had for the label – young, extremely talented, down-to-earth and in it for the right reasons with a good look and intense live show."

Influenced by bands like Iron Maiden and Dream Theater to Dragonforce and Angra, this is the new age of progressive power metal telling stories in musical literature speaking to a generation influenced by epic, fantasy tales, comic books and video games.

"We are ecstatic to be working with Marco Barbieri and everyone in the M-Theory Audio family. With as much history and experience in the music industry as Marco has, not to mention the impact he has made in the ever growing metal community, we knew that he was someone we could learn and grow with as a band," states Balmore. "Novareign has always been a band that has had our nose to the ground and is constantly and relentlessly working to better ourselves, the performance, the music, and everything else that entails creating what we hold near and dear to our hearts. After spending quite some time talking with Marco and M-Theory Audio about the work ethic we try to uphold, as well as what it is we would want from a partnership with a label, we decided that they were the right choice for us to help us on our journey. We look forward to releasing some awesome tunes with a label that has the same mentality and work ethic as we do." More...

Skein Releases New Single "Bound"

Finnish alternative metal quintet Sjein released the music video for the new single "Bound," the first from the upcoming new album named "Deadweight."

Assembled with the invaluable help of producer Tuomas Kokko (Ghost Brigade, Swallow the Sun etc.), the album moves dynamically across different soundscapes, reaching from crushingly heavy guitar riffs to more etheric, atmospheric parts.

Unlike the debut album "Of Wings Unfolding," which was a concept album with a strong narrative and a storyline (strengthened by a novel published alongside the physical copy) the songs on "Deadweight" stand on their own. Delivered with both screaming and clean vocals, the songs explore issues from misuse of power and societal responsibility to basic human characteristics, with very personal experiences. Due the rawness and personal approach, the album is the strongest emotional outburst of Skein's career.

The track list for "Deadweight" is:

1. Seduction
2. Lies Divine
3. Bound
4. Lies Mundane
5. The Fear is Love
6. Deadweight
7. Mare
8. In Circles
9. The Unknown More...
