Pit Stories: The Venue Isn't What Was Expected
Ready for some more Pit Stories chronicling the ups and downs of life in a metal band? Today we have a tale from Norwegian hard rock band The Carburetors (featuring former Chrome Division member Eddie Guz) about the expectation of playing a huge venue only to realize as you arrive it's a single room bar with no space for your equipment!
On the first Carburetors tour out of Norway back in 2001, we tour Spain and we did two shows in Madrid. The first night we played a small club called the honky-tonk. As we arrived on the club the first thing that hit us was that the drum kit was a junior edition (in other words very small). The guitar amps I think was called Smervod and god knows where they where from…
Anyway the gig went well pretty cool crowded. The next day we where going to play the Rock Palace in Madrid. I remember picturing it as this great big venue…. when we arrived it struck me that the club was a tiny bar but I still had my hope up so I asked the promoter "alright cool is the stage in the next room?" He answer me harsh "NO THERE IS ONLY ONE ROOM…"
Ok, I still had my spirit up and asked are we gonna put up a stage along side the wall? His answer was short: "NO YOU STAND ON THE FLOOR IN THE CORNER BOTH GLUECIFER AND TURBONEGRO HAVE DONE THE SAME." He he. We did the show but Kai Kidd set the roof on fire when fire-breathing during the show, Chris broke two sets of drums and Eddie blew out both of his monitors but it was a cool gig.
For those readers who are in a band, let us know your best story of arriving at a venue and discovering things weren't quite as you expected in the comments below!
The Carburetors' new album "Laughing In The Face Of Death" is out now via SPV/Steamhammer. Check out a video below taken off the album and featuring Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir. More...
Arcana 13 Signs With Aural Music
Aural Music issued this announcement today about inking a record deal with Italian outfit Arcana 13:
"This day, 35 years ago, the cult director Lucio Fulci ended the shooting of his masterpiece: '…E tu vivrai nel terrore! L’Aldilà' also known as 'The Beyond.' On this symbolic day we present you: Arcana 13.
"Arcana 13 hails from Italy, the birthplace of cult horror movie masters and conveys a lethal mixture between the visual terror of Italian horror legacy with the heavy and magical atmospheres of 70s heavy occult rock music.
"Eight legendary movies were meticulously chosen for their specific atmospheres and, around each of them, eight songs took shape. Arcana 13 adopted a unique composition process where music and movie edits were conceived together along with the visuals postproduction, with the intention of creating an exclusive horror live show that will be brought on stage in the upcoming shows.
"This culminated in the debut album 'Danza Macabra' that will see light in the darkness on Aural Music in March 2016.
"Many interesting details of 'Danza Macabra' will be disclosed in the upcoming months, but we’re thrilled to anticipate that the cover art was put to canvas by an Italian horror icon: the legendary artist Enzo Sciotti. Enzo already worked with Lucio Fulci himself, Dario Argento, Sam Raimi, Lamberto Bava and many others and he’s worked his magic once again in the name of Italian horror." More...

As The Sky Darkens Posts Year-End Message
Colorado metalcore band As The Sky Darkens just issued this year-end message to fans and other metal bands:
"As we get closer to the new year, I can't help but think about everything that has brought us to this point as musicians. It's funny how a little musical idea evolves into something much greater.
"Playing music has given us the opportunity to not only play in front of hundreds of people, but it has also given us a chance to grow so many close relationships. Sometimes people tend to forget how it all starts and where you came from.
"You start to see a crumble or a falling apart of what used to be a growing community. Bands and musicians no longer hold the same values, and in return, bands and musicians who are just starting out have nothing to look up to.
"Remember, it all starts with one idea. It's your choice to take that idea and grow with it. The potential is there! Just don't give up on the drive. Nobody said the journey would be easy. New music 2016. Cheers!" More...
