Night Viper Streaming Full New Album
Night Viper is now streaming the entirety of the band's self-titled debut album, released internationally last week by Svart Records. Listen in below.
Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, the first two ingredients in the Viper pie were Sofie Lee Johansson and Tom Sutton (Horisont, The Order Of Israfel, ex-Church Of Misery). As soon as they met, the chemistry started flying and some pure fist-banging heavy metal demos were thrown down.
They were joined briefly by Sven Nilsson from Antichrist on drums as well as a few others on guitar and bass, but it was once swing master Jonna Karlsson was behind the kit that things started really moving. The folk-tastic stylings of Emil Ridderstolpe on guitar and the fast fingers of Ruben Åhlander Persson (Miasmal) on bass completed the lineup.

"Primitive and monotonous Scandinavian black metal in the vein of the early and mid 90's, 'Där föddes en längtan' is a driving force, sprung out of that old and concealed well where extreme metal and the mysticism of northern nature unified in the past. A timeless past that may forever burn in our hearts."

"Ex Deo enlists symphonic master Clemens 'Ardek' Wijers from horror kings Carach Angren to create the epic Roman orchestral score behind the band's new studio album due out in 2017 via Napalm Records.
"Clemens has worked previously with some movie scores, film studios and of course the maniacs in Carach Angren, all we can say is that the first demos that came out are mind blowing and the fit is perfect. Shivers of an old age are about to be reborn again and the XIII Legion marches forward In full force Spread the news my Legions, you're the only voice that matters."
Wijers comments: "I'm very proud to announce that I will create all the orchestral parts for the upcoming release of Roman oriented death metallers Ex Deo. It's an honor to be working with such a unique powerful act and a personal challenge to craft the darkest, most empirical score possible!"
Amoretta Releasing New EP
Lafayette, LA's Amoretta will release new EP, "Seventeen Seventy," on January 8th. The album was recorded with Drew Fulk (Motionless In White, Escape The Fate) and is the follow-up to debut EP, "This Light" (2013).
Pre-orders are available now at this location. The band also recently premiered a new music video for "Wit's End," which can be seen below. Alex Breaux comments on the recording process:
"I’ve heard it said so many times that the journey is more important than the destination and, in my eyes, 'Seventeen Seventy' was exactly that for Amoretta. When we started writing for the EP, we wanted something new and ambitious out of our songs. We were seeking inspiration in the form of some undiscovered element that would set us apart in a big way. Needless to say, we found it. We left for the studio with tons of lyrics, ideas, full songs, ambition, and inspiration.
"Our time in Los Angeles with Drew took all that raw energy and multiplied it tenfold. I’ve never been a part of anything quite like it. It wasn't a marriage of sounds, it’s the birth of something all its own. We didn’t follow a guideline, a template, or a theme. Instead, we simply tried a lot of new ideas and the fruits of that adventure became Seventeen Seventy."
Canaan Frederick adds, "With each song tracked, I could FEEL the band growing and maturing. Alex and myself had lyrics written for days, but really tied in the EP with some extra thinking power from Drew. It's a new sound for us, especially from our debut EP that was released almost exactly two years ago. We really pride ourself on the versatility and I believe everyone can listen to the record and gain something from it. It may be difficult to set yourself apart in the genre but I genuinely believe we are taking giant steps in the right direction." More...

2016 Grammy Metal Performance Nominees Announced

Instead, the Grammy's feature a token "best metal performance" nomination that typically involves a bunch of mainstream rock bands and one or two metal groups.
The 2015 winner was Tenacious D covering a Dio track while the 2012 winner was rock band Halestorm.
This year's nominees surprisingly actually include some metal bands, but of course only those that are most well known. The 2016 Grammy nominees for "Best Metal Performance" are: More...

Epic Death Covers Alice Cooper
Houston, Texas based black / thrash / death metal band Epic Death has released a cover of Alice Cooper's classic track "Poison," taken from upcoming album "Witchcraft" that comes out on December 11th, 2015. Becky Dorsett of Epic Death comments:
"We started the journey of choosing a previously recorded song by putting songs on a list that would coordinate with the name of our album. When it was all said and done we looked at each song and asked 'which one really means something to us.' Well for Dennis and myself it was Alice Cooper's 'Poison.' You see we both see Alice Cooper as the original rebel shock rocker who makes every show like Halloween. It is also one of Dennis' and Reece's favorite songs.
"The final icing on the cake was going to see the 'Super Duper Alice Cooper' movie. Everything that was in that movie Dennis and I could relate to on many levels. Not only is the man a genius as a musician but he is just as 'human' as the rest of us. Most of all, he's our musical hero!" More...
Decapitated Announces Tour Dates With Black Breath
Polish technical death metal band Decapitated will return to conquer North America once again this upcoming January. Just prior to being direct support to At The Gates on a U.S. tour, Decapitated will do a headlining run with support coming from Black Breath and Theories.
Founding guitarist Vogg comments: "We’re very excited to announce that we will be returning to North America in January and February as a part of the At The Gates tour, along with our first headline dates in over 3 years. As you probably know due to unexpected problems with U.S.C.I.S. we were forced to cancel our tour with Soulfly in October this year. We can’t wait to get back and play for our loyal fans all over North America and we hope to see you there! Nothing will stop us this time!!!"
Vocalist Rasta adds: "The beginning of 2016 is gonna be awesome. We are coming back to United States and Canada!!! As we all perfectly know, North America is one of the best place to play hard music. This continent was simply built on a Rock and Roll music, and I feel it every time we play there. Amazing crowds, constant headbanging and of course unforgettable shows. North America are you ready?! We are coming! See you there!" More...
Native Construct Has Equipment Stolen On Tour
Out on the road with Between the Buried and Me, experimental prog metal outfit Native Construct has unfortunately run into some bad luck. On December 5th the band issued this update about having equipment and passports stolen:
"We were just robbed in San Antonio, Texas. We came back from In N Out to two people in our van, tossing our backpacks (with our laptops, passports, and other valuables inside) as well as Poh Hock's new Strandberg Boden OS 8 into their car parked alongside to conceal the break-in, which occurred in a Home Depot parking lot in broad daylight.
"The guitar is pictured below. Any help in the form of shares, etc to get the word out about this unique guitar (in case it shows up in any pawn shops in the San Antonio area) is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, this also means we will likely not be able to make it to the Canada dates on this tour due to our passports being gone. Sorry, everyone."
Since then a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the band offset the cost of the losses. You can contribute here. Native Construct also comments:
"The Between The Buried And Me family has created a GoFundMe campaign for us. The support this community has shown and continues to show us is unbelievable. I know many of us in this community are struggling musicians -- even just sharing this post would go a long way in helping us put a dent in the over $10,000 of stolen possessions. We promise to repay you all with good music as soon as we can. More...
Opeth Launches 9.2% Dark Stout
Celebrating a 25th anniversary, Opeth today launches the band's first beer with Leeds (UK) based brewery, Northern Monk Brew Co. Limited to just 1700 660ml bottles, the 9.2% XXV Anniversary Imperial Stout is a one-off brew.
Descended from the strongest Stout Porter brewed in Britain in the 18th Century it's brewed with 10 different malts for uttermost complexity of flavour - big, dark and full in mouthfeel, expect roasted flavours with underlying notes of rich chocolate, cinder toffee and coffee. Designed to sip slowly and share with friends, drink one now and save one as the flavours will develop over time.
Russell Bisset (founder) of Northern Monk Brew Co comments: "We’re big metal fans at Northern Monk and Opeth is often the soundtrack to our brewing. When the opportunity to work with the band came up, we jumped at the chance. Opeth have been taking the same progressive and quality driven approach to music that we have to beer for the past 25 years and it was great to work with them. Our aim was to make one of the most bold and forward thinking brewery and band collaborations ever. We got together at the brewery tap room and tasted our range of beers with them and together came up with a couple of recipes."
As a fan of quality beer himself Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has also expressed his excitement: "Even if we’re musicians firstly, we’re beer drinkers secondly. Kind of. Let me rephrase: We love beer. We love good beer. We’ve turned into culinary connoisseurs of late. Not too much snobbery however. We just love good food and drinks. So when we were approached by the fantastic Northern Monk brewery to do a Opeth signature beer we simply could not turn it down. More...

M:Pire Of Evil Announces New Album
M:Pire Of Evil was formed in 2010 by Tony "Demolition Man" Dolan and Mantas, deciding that they needed to produce something befitting of their musical prowess. Something unashamedly heavy and without restraint; free of ego, deception and unreasonable behaviour – and fulfilling for them as musicians.
The first release "Creatures of the Black" showed their roots by covering songs by great bands that influenced them to pick up their own instruments. 2011 saw the release of their debut "Hell To The Holy," which was an uncompromising mix of all styles of metal but fused into an album 100% their own.
The follow-up album to their latest full length effort "Crucified" (2013) will be released in early 2016, getting “M:Pire Unleashed” as a working title.
Alpha Omega Management adds: "Following to our recent announcement of Venom Inc., today we have a double pleasure to announce also M:Pire Of Evil to our roster family, completing so the coalition of Venomous Empire! M:Pire Of Evil, formed in 2010 by Tony 'Demolition Man\ Dolan and Mantas, and today with Francesco 'Frullo' La Rosa on drums, the band is stronger than ever, bringing forward its unholy trinity! We can expect to have a very exciting year ahead! Stay tuned for next announcements!" More...

Ravensire Reveals "The Cycle Never Ends" Details
Portuguese epic metal heroes Ravensire have issued details on the band's upcoming new release "The Cycle Never Ends." The album is set to drop on February 12th via Cruz Del Sur Music. "The Cycle Never Ends" will be released on compact disc, vinyl and digital formats.
Ravensire’s sound is genuinely devoted to the likes of Omen, old Manowar, and Brocas Helm. Formed around 2010, Ravensire has built a strong reputation in the European Underground Metal movement with the two previous releases "Iron Will" (2012) and "We March Forward" (2013). Both albums have been highly acclaimed by fans of epic metal, giving the band the boost to improve even further the songwriting process on "The Cycle Never Ends."
From the cover artwork (strongly recalling John Buscema’s black and white art for the “Savage Sword of Conan” 70s comic - an appropriate reading to get along with Ravensire’s music!) to each one of the eight songs, "The Cycle Never Ends" shows the band reaching maturity through an astonishing intense performance, leaving no place for weakness.
Among more direct tracks such as the opener "Cromlech Revelations" and "Crosshaven" the album’s highlight is definitely the "White Pillars" trilogy, described as "a monumental epic piece connected to the history of Sintra, famed city not far from Lisbon. At the coastline, archaeologists dig the ruins of a watchtower built in the 16th century. Contemporary manuscripts mention that, at the time, ancient written stones had been found (part I, 'Eternal Sun'). Under the ruins, they find the remains of a Moorish settlement, once subdued by the invading army of King Sigurd of Norway in the beginning of the 12th century (part II, 'Blood and Gold'). Finally, among the stones of the Moorish walls, the archaeologists find Roman altars and stones belonging to an ancient temple dedicated to the Sun, the Moon and the Ocean (part III, 'Temple at the End of the World')."
Track List:
1. Cromlech Revelations
2. Crosshaven
3. Solitary Vagrant
4. Procession
5. Trapped in Dreams
6. White Pillars Trilogy: Part I - Eternal Sun
7. While Pillars Trilogy: Part II - Blood and Gold
8. White Pillars Trilogy: Part III - Temple at the End of the World (song streaming here) More...
