Interview
A Conversation With Nervosa Vocalist Fernanda Lira
Back in August of this year, myself and Zora (also of Hyperfocal Fotos,) were fortunate enough to attend a show in London co-headlined by Cryptopsy and Brujeria.
Though the second of those bands grabbed peoples attention with bandannas, stage invasions and machetes, the opening act, an all female thrash metal band from Brazil named Nervosa, caught the eyes and ears of the head bangers who turned up the earliest. Their aggressive take on the genre reminiscent of the likes of Destruction and Kreator earned them several new fans on a trek which mostly featured them headlining shows on their first tour of the United Kingdom.
I was fortunate enough to meet with the band's very talkative and very friendly, vocalist/bassist, Fernanda Lira before the show and after welcoming her to London in my broken Portuguese and Fernanda speaking about her love of Amy Winehouse, we discussed the tour, their album "Victim of Yourself," and the state of the world today:
Diamond Oz: You're currently on your first headlining tour of Europe is that right?
Fernanda Lira (Bass/Vocals): Yeah, yeah! This is actually our first time ever here in the U.K. This show is really important to us because it's always been a dream for us to come here to the U.K. and Europe and playing the first gig with Brujeria and Cryptopsy and bands like that is just so awesome for us, we can't wait for that. I'm just too excited! I'm even drinking some Jack and Coke to see if I can calm down! We still have lots of other shows too, after the U.K. we're touring in Russia but it's been pretty cool so far. I'm pretty sure the U.K.'s gonna rule!More...

Nervosa Announces Plans To Record Second Album
Brazilian all female thrash metal trio Nervosa has announced that they will be travelling to the United States of America next month to record their second, as-yet untitled studio album. The first stage will happen at the renowned studio The Foundation, owned by Sylvia Massy (who has worked with bands like Exodus, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, System of a Down, Tool, among others) in the city of Ashland, Oregon, where the all the drums will be recorded.
Soon after, the girls head for the city of Davis, California, to make and finalize the recordings of the guitars, bass and vocals, at Norcal Studios with producer Brendan Duffey, who besides having produced great Brazilian names earlier, already worked with renowed musicians such as Billy Sheehan, Tim Ripper Owens and Mike Mangini. Death Metal Bird Song Takes Flight
It's finally happened... we have a death metal project based entirely around the subject of bird watching.
Bill "Cuckoo Braaaaains" Barnes is pleased to announce he has started writing his debut album "Anally Fisting Your Moms With a Bluebird House" with his bird-watching, misanthropic death metal crossover project, Death Metal Bird Song.
He expects to complete the album in the autumn when the bird migration starts. So far he is completing work on gore-drenched songs about carrion eaters, cum peckers, tits (human and avian) nest robbers, the black bird apocalypse, dog attacks, venomous critters, all the while hailing death metal legends such as Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Unleashed, Morbid Angel, Morgoth and many more.
Barnes is cousins with Six Feet Under singer Chris Barnes and learned many of his vocal techniques from this family member. Cuckoo Braaaaains dwells in the back woods of Texas where he enjoys watching videos of humans die ("Traces of Death II" is his favorite film), observing and photographing birds, smoking grass and just communing with nature. He is a misanthrope who only likes birders and metal heads and rarely leaves his hovel, mostly just to buy more pot. More...

Negura Bunget Posts Year-End Message
Negura Bunget has issued the following year-end recap and announcement about upcoming activity:
"Now that we are coming to the end of 2015, it is time to take a short look at what we did this year. For the first time we passed the 100 gigs in a year limit, an accomplishment that we came close to a few times before, but never achieved it. This year we performed no less than 127 gigs, travelling over 100.000 km by van throughout the entire Europe and North America! It was a tremendous stretch in terms of endurance, planning and logistics, especially considering we worked everything out by ourselves, and we are very proud we were able to make it happen.
"We started the year with the release of our 'TAU' album in March, an album that got an overwhelming response from you, our audience, and the media, an album released in two spectacular limited editions (the 72 pages art book, and the handmade wood box).
"Shortly after we embarked on our lengthiest tour ever along Europe, with 80 dates spinning around the continent, from Greece to Sweden, Poland to UK, Denmark to Malta, Finland to France, Lithuania to Italy or Spain to Romania. We had our share of thrills along the tour, got our van broken twice, equipment stolen, members getting sick and going home, we performed in a 5 members line-up, then 4, then even 3… yet no obstacle managed to stop us. We took each provocation as a challenge, and emerged stronger than ever at the end. Overall, it was an amazing experience that we feel have been privileged to undertake and share with you. More...

hAND Parts With Two Members
Post metal band hAND has issued the following year end recap and announcement about parting ways with two members:
"We hope you all had a great festive season and are looking forward to the new year! There's been a few changes in the hAND camp very recently and we wanted to update you all on what's been happening.
"Firstly and simply put hAND are currently back to a two piece temporarily, both Dan and Tom have decided to call it a day with the band. Tom has moved away and can't dedicate the time any more, and Dan has fallen out of love with drumming and put down the sticks. There's no hard feelings at all and we're still great friends, but we are very sorry to see them both go.
"Myself and Kieren have been discussing / talking things over for a couple of weeks around all aspects of the band, as any change is an opportunity for re-invention. It's likely that the new hAND will still benefit from a kick-ass live drummer, and so we're keen to see if there's anyone like-minded out there interested in becoming our new sticksman.
"As such, this is the first official call to drummers - if you're talented, expressive, share our passion for the driving, the intricate and the unusual, please get in touch! Any interested parties should message us on here and we'll take it from there. Cheers & Happy New Year."

Tourniquet Parts With Vocalist
Tourniquet just issued this announcement online about parting ways with long-time vocalist Luke Easter:
"By mutual and respectful agreement, Luke Easter has stepped down as vocalist of Tourniquet. Luke has been a valuable member of Tourniquet since 1993 and we have shared much music, ministry, and laughter. I will always appreciate his valuable contribution to our music and his representation of the band – and I know many of you will too. We’ve decided that our musical paths are not quite going in the same direction. Luke has been, and is - a great friend. I truly wish the best for him and look forward to seeing whatever his future holds.”
Luke had this to say: "In June, 1993, my life changed. I joined Tourniquet and began a musical journey that has lasted more than two decades. I got the opportunity to see the world; to meet and work with amazing people; to contribute to a body of work that I am proud of; and in the process I was able to share Christ with people all over the world. I am grateful to have been a part of Tourniquet, and to have had the chance to work with someone as talented and prolific as Ted for as long as I have." More...
