Gygax Releasing "Critical Hits"

Creator-Destructor Records is ultra-stoked to announce the impending release of "Critical Hits," the debut LP by California-based quartet Gygax. Check out new track "Draw Breath" below.

Gygax is a no-frills, classic rock/heavy metal hybrid, heavily steeped in the imagery of fantasy literature and role playing games, and rooted in the musical stylings of metallic '70s rockers Thin Lizzy and Deep Purple, with equal parts metal and boogie-inducing groove.

Though the name is attributed to the creator of Dungeons & Dragons, the band has described itself more simply as "a beacon and an anthem for anyone who's interests lie in creativity and the powers of imagination."

Hailing from Ventura, California, Gygax was born out of the ashes of vocalist/bassist Eric Harris' previous heavy-metal brainchild, Gypsyhawk, whose "Patience & Perseverance" 2xLP also saw release through Creator-Destructor in 2009. Bryant Throckmorton, who played second guitar in Gypsyhawk also joins Harris in Gygax on guitar. When Gypsyhawk decided to disband, Harris and Throckmorton took some time alongside friend and fellow guitarist Armand John Lizzy to begin demoing new material, then solidifying their lineup with Justin Dempsey on drums. Todtgelichter Signs New Record Deal

Todtgelichter is gearing up to release a new album next year to follow 2013's "Apnoe" (reviewed here). Thhe band comments:

"It's official, folks – We just signed a multi-album deal with Supreme Chaos Records! This is great on several levels. Not only does SCR have a longtime reputation for putting out high-quality releases in the Avantgarde/Progressive Metal scene – we're also signing on a German label again which will make things considerably easier, and last but not least we're in good company – with Nocte Obducta, Agrypnie, Vyre and many others on the same label we can say we're amongst bands with a similar vision and also good friends.

"We want to say 'Thank You' to Code666 / Aural Music for all the work and effort they put into the last two albums, you rock – but now it's time to move on.

"The release date for 'Rooms' is now set to February 26th, 2016. A vinyl version (!) will follow later, release TBA due to the unpredictable manufacturing situation these days but most likely in summer. Sorry we couldn't make it 2015 as planned, but putting everything into place took a little longer than expected. To make it up, we will release at least an album trailer this year." More...

Moloken Posts New Video

In conjunction with its release, today the band releases a new music video for the track "Seventh Circle." The clip was caught live while the band performed at Discouraged Festival in Umeå, Sweden in 2014.

"'Seventh Circle' deals with the painful acknowledgment that you have reached the end of a circle on your life path," explained the band of their latest psalm of sadness. "And in order to move on, you have no other choice than to dive deep into yourself, accepting your pain to be cleansed and reborn. All is left to see. There's a storm coming and Hell follows in its wake; my vessel capsized; waves come rolling and all is set loose. Beneath a raging light, into the darkness from whence I came..." More...

Brian Posehn Reveals Guests For New Album

In a new interview with Metal Injection, comedian Brian Posehn revealed work is almost complete on his metal album debut, which he is creating with Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, Metalocalypse creator Brendon Small and producer Jay Ruston.

Posehn spoke to Metal Injection while promoting his new Christmas dark comedy, Uncle Nick. He had this to say about the upcoming album and its many guest spots:

"It's taking forever but Anthrax is just finishing up their next record, it's coming out in February. We're using the same producer, [Jay Ruston]. We've been doing it for a while. It's all written and most of the tracks are done. It's just tweaking now. Scott and I wrote it with the help of Brendon Small from Metalocalypse, he wrote some songs too. It's really close to being done and once we have it done, we'll figure out when it's coming out and all that. We're putting it out through Megaforce, which, as a metal fan is crazy. I'm doing something for that label 30 years after loving that label.

"I've been talking with Jay [Ruston] and after I finish promoting this movie, he and I are going to finish up what we can. We're trying to get Phil Anselmo to do a guest part. We have a bunch of guests already. Alex Skolnick did a solo. Gary Holt did a solo. Kim Thayil from Soundgarden is doing a thing. So a bunch of badass guys are doing parts. And, I'm also using other vocalists, as I've done before. I had Mark Osegueda of Death Angel do 'More Metal Than You' with me, because I can't scream. So, we have guys like Chuck Billy coming in. I wrote a thing for Phil [Anselmo] to do and Phil said he'd do it, it's just nailing him down and getting him in LA. And that'll be it. Once we get those final touches down, we can put the record to bed." More...

Behemoth Announces "The Congregation" Exhibit

Behemoth will perform all of current album "The Satanist" on the band's upcoming European run in early 2016.

The Polish group also plans to bring a brand new exhibition concept, "The Congregation," out on tour. The exhibition will be dubbed "A symbiosis of Behemoth and Toxic Vision" and will showcase the collaborative work between the two parties.

Toxic Vision is the artist that Behemoth had been working closely with over the past years in terms of stage outfits, music videos, stage/photo props and such. The exhibition is planned to be held in tent, a capsule created to capture an experience on its own and built solely for this purpose, and was first shown by Toxic Vision (in a similar way) at this year's installment of the Inferno Festival.

Commented band leader Nergal: "We've always pushed ourselves very hard trying to reach the highest picks of artistic creativity. This time around we are not only coming back to perform 'The Satanist' in its entirety, but are also bringing along a collaboration that's unheard of! Toxic Vision, renowned and absolutely brilliant artist and designer from Canada whom we have worked with on several projects in the past (stage gear, video clip costumes…) will be accompanying us on this European trek with a unique exhibition called 'The Congregation!' We are beyond excited to see how these synergies coexist! Sharon, it's an honour to welcome you on board!"

Adds Toxic Vision CEO Sharon Toxic: "It is a real honour to work alongside Behemoth and have this opportunity to bring a vision to life! We aim to dazzle and inspire, I am inviting everyone to step into the dark world of 'The Congregation' - an exclusive showcase of my work with Behemoth. Nothing like this has been done before, and of course, nothing is really as it seems with Toxic Vision. This is a culmination of craft and magic... once you step inside, you might never find your way out." More...

Dark Fortress Re-Signs With Century Media

Dark Fortress and Century Media Records have announced that their unholy alliance will continue as the band just re-signed with their longtime label. Century Media issued this statement:

"Formed in the Bavarian foothills when the second wave of black metal had grotesquely clawed out of the grave and into the unforgiving light, Dark Fortress benefited from the rotten fruits of right place and right time.

"Like their black metal peers across Europe, the Germans were a product of a historically mystical environment - imbued consciously or not - and a ritualistically inspired musical movement, and fans, eager to experience their otherworldly din, poured unwavering praise on their debut album, 'Tales from Eternal Dusk.'

"For the past two decades, Dark Fortress have gone from strength to strength. Across six full-lengths, the Landshut-based sextet stretched the boundaries of black metal, while remaining pure to the tenets of a genre that pivoted (and continues to do so) solely around the axis of the dark and all that resides hideously inside of it. Over the years members from Dark Fortress joined diverse acts such as Triptykon, ReVamp or Noneuclid which is underlying their prominent position in the black metal scene. More...

Rotting Christ Premieres New Track "Elthe Kyrie"

Greek symphonic/melodic death metal act Rotting Christ premiered the brand new track "Elthe Kyrie" over at Metal Hammer's website at this location (also streaming in the player below). The track is taken from the upcoming new release "Rituals," which is set to drop on February 12th via Season of Mist Records. Pre-orders will be available at this location.

Frontman Sakis Tolis comments: "Dear friends! We now present the first creation of our forthcoming album 'Rituals' to you. It is not an easy task to pick only one song to represent a whole album as diverse as this, but as it has to suffice for the time being, the choice fell on 'Elthe Kyrie', which translates as 'Come Lord' and was influenced by the tragic ancient Greek poet Euripides and more specifically his creation 'Bakxais'. This pure bacchanalian play refers to the coming of the new god. The ritualistic atmosphere of this historical theatre drama influenced us lyrically as well as musically and resulted in this song that you are currently listening to. There only remains one thing, which is us taking you on a mystical journey into ancient Greek bacchanalian occultism. The amazing female guest vocals are courtesy of the fabulous Danai Katsameni, an actress of the National Hellenic Theater."

Rotting Christ is simultaneously unveiling the artwork and track list of "Rituals" as follows:

1. In Nomine Dei Nostri
2. Ze Nigmar
3. Elthe Kyrie
4. Les Litanies De Satan (Les Fleurs Du Mal)

Threat Signal Signs With Agonia Records

Agonia Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of Canadian melodic thrash metal powerhouse, Threat Signal. The band has finished recording their long awaited fourth studio album and follow-up to the 2011 self-titled effort. The new album, "Disconnect", is scheduled for release in the first half of 2016.

Their latest two installments, the intense "Vigilance" (2009) and reinvented "Threat Signal" (2011), have both met with unrelenting hype, with each entering the Billboard's Top Heatseekers Chart, at #32 and #26.

Threat Signal combines the complexity of thrash metal, with a more contemporary groove sound involving technical rhythms, and melodic musical passages. The band is led by frontman Jon Howard, who commented on the signing:

"We are very excited to have inked a deal with Agonia records. We strongly believe that Agonia will be a great partnership, and together we will push Threat Signal's music to more listeners than ever before. Izegrim Announces New Album And Track List

Dutch death/thrash act Izegrim announced that the upcoming new album will be entitled "The Ferryman's End," and will be issued in March 2016 via Listenable Records. The exact date and cover art will be revealed soon.

Recorded at the prestigious Soundlodge Studio in Germany, the ferocious new album offers a bloody follow up to previous "Code of Consequences" and "Congress of the Insane" full lengths. Many bands are said to now be able to top earlier releases, but "The Ferryman's End" proves that wrong in a very brutal manner, taking the catchy components of what made the band so successfully murderous on record as well as in the live environment and developing them further into extremely punishing barbarity.

Listenable Records commented: "One of the finest and hardest working European band Izegrim are unleashing their brand new album entitled "The Ferryman's End" in Spring 2016."

Guitarist Jeroen comments: "Needless to say we are thrilled and honored to re-ink a new deal with Listenable Records: never change a winning team ! With this new album we aimed for more catchy songs, to-the-point songwriting, agression, viciousness and on top of that a better production. We went 'back-to-basics,' essentially to incorporate better structure and more power than ever before. This album sounds massive and most certainly a punch right in your face."

Lyrically, Izegrim vocalist/bassist Marloes steps into the shoes of a twisted and insane main character sitting on death row waiting to be executed. Every individual song is a journey further into the sick and disturbed brain of the murderer, During her very last act of terror, the Ferryman gets kills leaving all souls of his victims dwell forever.."

Artwork duties will be handled by Eliran Kantor (Testament, Satan, Hatebreed, Soulfly etc etc). The track listing is:

1. White Walls
2. Time To Run
3. Endless Desire
4. The Evil Within
5. Absolute Necessity
6. Reclaim My Identity
7. Insanity Is Freedom
8. Reflection Of Redemption

Brimstone Coven Conjures "Black Magic"

West Virginia's 70's doom metal act Brimstone Coven announced the impending new album "Black Magic," which is set to drop via Metal Blade Records on January 29, 2016. A video clip for the album's title track can be seen below.

Brimstone Coven's gritty, groovy riffs and killer vocal melodies aren't a new invention. Fans of the Panhandle Staters have worshiped the group's heavy rock style ever since "Brimstone Coven" and its follow-up "II" were self-released in 2013 and 2013, respectively. With ears to the ground, Metal Blade heard the promise in Brimstone Coven, inked a deal, and packaged both releases as a single set, called "Brimstone Coven" in 2014. This was, of course, a set-up to the band's first official Metal Blade long-player in "Black Magic," which will be one of 2016's early highlights.

"Black Magic has a nice mixture of tracks," grins vocalist Williams. "We felt the three-part harmonies were very important on this album. We receive a ton of comments on how awesome they were on the old tracks and how they are a staple of the band. We didn't want to flood the album with harmonies, but wanted to give enough to satisfy the ears of the listeners. Those harmonies have always added a silky smooth edge to the rock 'n' roll. A few of the tracks have a more retro feel than what we've done before, but to me still keep that Brimstone groove. I'm sure to a true 'Brimstoner' Black Magic will keep them very satisfied and hopefully pull in some more. Overall, we are really excited about how Black Magic turned out."

Black Magic was mostly written over a year period - with some tracks harkening back to the origins of Brimstone Coven - against a backdrop of candles, incense, solitude, and a thick air of ganja. Not one to get lost in their own rarified air however, Brimstone Coven went into the studio in 2015 to capture the third full-length at D'Cagna's Sacred Sound Studios in Ohio. "That's where we've went for the other albums," Williams recollects. "Professional atmosphere, but still has a 'club house'-type feel. Stress free. Andrew produced the albums and we all contributed ideas and changes. Andrew does great work on anything that rolls into the studio. Since he's in the band, knows the flow/feel of the material, and has 16 years of producing under his belt, it really makes the process come together quickly."

With songs like "Black Unicorn", "Beyond the Astral", "Upon the Mountain", and "The Eldest Tree", Black Magic is destined to rule. This is an album that's hard to forget. It begs to be played, over and over. The strange allure is there, as if Brimstone Coven are summoning from the depths, while at the same time giving a wink and a nod to the Phantasm and Suspiria themes. If there's one thing Roth wants fans to walk away with after experiencing Black Magic it's this: "I would love for them to feel as if they've taken a journey to places unknown, within their own minds and a strong desire to return often. Behold. Believe."

The track list for the album is:

1. Black Magic
2. Black Unicorn
3. Beyond the Astral
4. As We Fall
5. Upon the Mountain
6. Slow Death
7. The Seers
8. The Plague
9. Forsaken
