STP Issues Statement About Scott Weiland

This morning it was announced that former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland had passed away.

Now his former band mates Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz have issued this statement online:

"Dear Scott, let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us. Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories. The memories are many, and they run deep for us.

"We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again. It’s what made you who you were. You were gifted beyond words, Scott. Part of that gift was part of your curse.

"With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go. All of our love and respect. We will miss you brother."

Although no cause of death has been revealed at this point, rumors have circulated that Weiland's death was due to serious drug abuse and reports have surfaced that cocaine was found at the scene.

Beaten To Death Releases New Music Video

Norwegian grindcore band Beaten To Death is pleased to present the brand new music video for “I Keep Stalling,” a song taken from the “Unplugged” album issued in early October via Mas-Kina Recordings.

The video for “I Keep Stalling” was filmed by Per Georg Krokstad and edited by Mika Martinussen. Check it out below. Bassist Mika Martinussen comments:

“I guess this is one of the more melodic songs on ‘Unplugged’ – even the vocals have sort-of a one-note melody going at one point. I’m not entirely sure, but I think the song is about never having enough time to get stuff done.” More...

Nuclear Holocaust Signs Record Deal

Selfmadegod Records is proud to announce the signing of Poland's Nuclear Holocaust for the release of the band's debut album next year. The label comments:

"Nuclear Holocaust is a new band born in Swidnik in April 2015, and since, they have already developed a solid reputation through their straightforward and intense classic grindcore through live shows and festival appearances.

"In August they released the 'Mutant Inferno' demo which met with a very positive response and saw the band offered shows at Into the Abyss Festival alongside Dead Congregation, Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench and many others, Mini-Merciless Festival, upcoming shows in Ireland with The Dead Goats and more.

"While Nuclear Holocaust is hard at work writing their debut full-length which will be recorded in early 2016 to tentatively be released during the summer months, the 'Mutant Inferno' demo will soon be released as a split cassette through Massacre Distro, a split CD through Defense Records/Mythrone Promotion, and split 12' on Devil's Nun Records, in each case accompanied by different bands to be announced in the coming months." Hate Eternal Comments On “Infernus” Album

Erik Rutan played with Morbid Angel during the height of popularity on the “Domination” album and previously played with Ripping Corpse. He left Morbid Angel in 1996 and formed what people were calling a death metal super group, Hate Eternal, with Suffocation’s Doug Cerrito, Alex Webster and the drummer who would go on to win the world’s fastest drum contest, Tim Yeung. Since then his lineup has changed and he has welcomed some of the best drummers in death metal like Kevin Talley, Derek Roddy and most recently Hannes Grossman.

Coming out of Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal’s sound has always seemed a bit like his older band. The Morbid Angel comparison is much less defined on the band’s sixth album, “Infernus.” The tempos are more varied and the music is more straight forward with fewer solos and harmonies. It still retains the infernal sound that defines the band, though.

Nearing the end of a tour supporting “Infernus,” Hate Eternal came to Austin, Texas with a tour package that included Rivers of Nihil, Beyond Creation and Misery Index. Bassist/backing vocalist J.J. Hrubovcak spoke to me concerning the album and tour, with the full transcript available below.

Hrubovcak flew back and forth between Rutan’s Mana Studios in Florida and his home base of New Jersey and was instrumental in helping write the album. J.J., whose been in the band since 2008, contributed music and wrote the lyrics to two songs. He gave me the lowdown on completing the album and how he feels about the overall package. More...

Cradle Of Filth Releases New Music Video

The barbarous hellhounds from Cradle Of Filth have released a music video for the track "Blackest Magick In Practice." The clip was directed by Sam Scott-Hunter and the song is taken from the groups latest tome of horror and romance, "Hammer of the Witches" (reviewed here).

Comments the director: "There’s dark madness in this video. 'Blackest Magick In Practice' is a deeply tragic tale of lost love. It’s the grief stricken insanity of trying to bring back that loved one from the dead; desperately trying to hold onto that person who’s gone, even if that leads down a dark and gruesome path. I don’t want to give it all away, but I will say that the hardest part of the production was getting hold of a human ear.

"I wanted to convey the power of the band too, in amongst the romance, madness and magick. Behind the imagery of the lyrics is a great and powerful metal band of amazing musicians, and I hope people can feel the intensity of the band when they watch this. It is intense viewing. There should be a bit of madness in the video, because there’s madness in this song." More...

White Wizzard Announces Return Of Guitarist

Looks like White Wizzard is back in action, as Jon Leon just issued the following announcement about bringing back a former member and working on a new album:

"White Wizzard is proud and excited to welcome back original founding lead guitarist and ex-Holy Grail/Vindicator guitarist James J Larue. A new album is still in the works and we hope to have some more surprises for you in the coming months leading up to its release.

"James J Larue played a very important part in the early formation of White Wizzard. He was there investing with me and pushing hard every step of the way. Human fears this black hole beyond us sucking our lives… There is a way to win, as She did. To give a life a meaning, by following a direction. This direction is Lower. Denner / Shermann Posts "Satan's Tomb" Video

Denner / Shermann recently released the debut, 4-track EP "Satan's Tomb" via Metal Blade Records. Today, the legendary guitar duo from Mercyful Fate has launched the video for the EP's title track. Visions of darkness and blood-soaked women drench the digital landscape while the band performs "Satan's Tomb."

Hank Shermann comments: "We are happy to be able to release a video for the title track, which was the first song that really got us going as a band. Now we are building upon the shadowy metal essence of what we created with the 'Satan's Tomb' EP, and are moving forward with a full-length release for next year."

Featuring cover artwork painted by Thomas Holm (best known for his work on Mercyful Fate's Melissa and Don't Break The Oath), "Satan's Tomb" is classic heavy metal infused with an outpouring of Michael Denner and Hank Shermann's signature dark magic shred-work. More...

Bloodlash Releases "Godsbreath" Music Video

Bloodlash was founded in late 2011 in Morelia, Mexico. Bloodlash began as an act of rebellion against pointless violence: while the band's music displays aggression, Bloodlash tries to make it a force for creation and to build awareness rather than for the mere purpose of aimless destruction.

Product Of Hate Posts "Blood Coated Concrete" Clip

Today Product Of Hate debuts a video for the song "Blood Coated Concrete" taken from "Buried in Violence." Directed by James Zahn with Gary Jones serving as assistant director, the video was produced by Robert Kurtzman and can be seen below. Vocalist Adam Gilley comments on the track:

"'Blood Coated Concrete' is an interesting song to have included on 'Buried In Violence' since it's one of our oldest songs from a live perspective, but a fan-favorite and longtime set-closer. It was also our first music video, though most people will be experiencing it now for the very first time, complete with James Murphy's new audio mix.

"One of the visual pieces that we worked on with Robert Kurtzman and his Creature Corps, we had a blast shooting this - a video that adds to the brutality and in-your-face nature of the song. We've grown as a band since 'Blood Coated Concrete' was first written, but listeners can be assured that we've maintained the aggressiveness, and will bring it to new heights when 'Buried in Violence' arrives this February!" Dream Theater Premieres New Song

Dream Theater today premieres a new song entitled "The Gift Of Music", taken from the upcoming new album "The Astonishing", which will be out in stores January 29th via Roadrunner Records. States John Petrucci about the new concept album:

"The idea to do a concept album as a band felt right. The last one we did was about 15 years ago, and it really felt like we were in a good place to do this. I knew that what needed to happen, first and foremost, is that we had to have a story to base this on, because the idea of basing an album off of a loose concept or something that was sort of arbitrary, that didn’t interest me at all. I wanted this not only to be a concept album, but really to write a full show. And to have all the elements in place, the story needs to drive that. We needed to have the storyline, a plot, places, characters, maps you name it.

"So that started about two and a half years ago. it took about a year for me to get that story done and ready to present to the guys. And I wanted to write from a place that was familiar to me, so I knew that music had to play a role in the story somehow. I’m a huge fan of the sci-fi and fantasy genres, so I had a pretty good idea of where I wanted to go. But it was a matter of really diving into it and working on it, revising and revising again, and working on it every day until I had something solid.” More...

Update: The members of Stone Temple Pilots have now released a statement regarding Scott's death. Read it over here.

According to TMZ.com, former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota.

A source connected to Scott's band The Wildabouts says Weiland was found on the band's tour bus Thursday night around 9 pm, shortly before the The Wildabouts' live set at the Medina Ballroom. He was 48.

Stone Temple Pilots fired Weiland in 2013 after reuniting with him in 2010 for a series of tours and one self-titled album. The band had previously been on hiatus since 2002, primarily due to the singer's struggles with drugs and alcohol. The band then recruited new vocalist Chester Bennington.
