Ready to rage all over again about the lack of metal knowledge in the Grammy awards? It's that time of year again...

If you aren't familiar with this amusing setup, there isn't actually a "best metal album" or "best metal song" category.

Instead, the Grammy's feature a token "best metal performance" nomination that typically involves a bunch of mainstream rock bands and one or two metal groups.

The 2015 winner was Tenacious D covering a Dio track while the 2012 winner was rock band Halestorm.

This year's nominees surprisingly actually include some metal bands, but of course only those that are most well known. The 2016 Grammy nominees for "Best Metal Performance" are:

"Identity"
August Burns Red
Label: Fearless Records

"Cirice"
Ghost
Label: Loma Vista Recordings

"512"
Lamb Of God
Label: Epic Records

"Thank You"
Sevendust
Label: 7Bros Records

"Custer"
Slipknot
Label: Roadrunner Records

Who do you think will clinch the nomination and take home the Grammy this coming February, 2016?

My money is on Cirice getting it. Because I pinned them all to the wall and the dart landed on Cirice.

I would bet it's Ghost. After a Colbert performance and somehow making it into the public consciousness way beyond the metal fans it seems like a slam dunk.

It seems somewhat close between Ghost, Slipknot and Lamb of God. Ghost has an edge with the Colbert performance, but Lamb of God has an edge with the publicity (albeit somewhat limited exposure) of Randy's trial. Slipknot has the publicity of Paul Grey's death, and the 'overcoming obstacles' narrative they've framed from Paul and also JJ's departure. Also record sales are in Slipknots favor. I'm going to guess Slipknot by a nose.

The metal Grammy nominations are a joke. It's like asking my mom what her favorite metal band is. Ironically she is referred to as Grammy as well.

Nobody should really be complaining about this years nominations. They are all heavy bands and most have been around for a while. No real mainstream bands. No Jethro Tull or Halestorm. Slayer and Slipknot usually get a nod, but it's still a respectable group of bands on the list.

Really glad to see Sevendust get a nomination - hard working band that delivers the goods live.
If Slipknot has an album out they will get a nomination because they are a household name. I like them and I am fine with that, but I don't think they should win this one.
Does Ghost still have the signer dressed up like the Pope and all that? I know they have gained a following, but I would be concerned having them up their to accept as it would be interpreted as mocking Catholicism/Christianity and might be bad press for the metal community (stereotypes that all metal is evil, against religion and all that good stuff). Remember, most of the people watching this show are not like us. Ward and Jude Cleaver see 'Ghost' as the face of metal, outright mocking their religion and traditional values=No rock or metal CD's for the Beaver and a generation listening to hip hop and pop garbage. As a practicing Catholic I am still a little weirded out by them. But then again, years ago I would not listen to LOG, but now they are one of my favorite bands.
I know that sounds very 'not metal' but I want this music to be more accepted. I hope this one goes to Lamb of God. They still have the aggression, but seem much more 'accessible' and mature. Them up their accepting would be a good image for the metal community.

Lamb of God deserve it most, so it will probably go to Ghost or even Sevendust for being the least metal.

I feel like I'm missing something here. If he thinks these bands are too soft and mainstream to be considered real metal, why would he go and listen to Backstreet Boys? You went in the wrong direction man.
