The 3rd Attempt Announces New Vocalist

Shortly after announcing the formation of new band The 3rd Attempt earlier this year and their departure from Carpathian Forest, guitarists Tchort and BloodPervertor went on to reveal that they were holding online auditions for the position of vocalist for the new project.

As was to be expected when guitarists who had played with some of the biggest and most iconic Norwegian bands advertised for a front man, the resulting flood of applications was sizeable, so much so, in fact, that it has taken 4 months to listen to all the auditions and come to a decision.

Commenting on the process Tchort said, “We were blown away, not only by the quantity of submissions we received, but also by the quality. Those sending in auditions were given the option of making them public or keeping them private, so what you saw posted on the band’s Facebook page was only the tip of the iceberg of what we had to assess.

"It took us a long time because we felt that everyone who sent in their demos deserved all the attention we could give them, and we would like to thank all the extraordinarily talented musicians who took part.

"It was a difficult choice but in the end we opted for former Midnattsvrede and Necrocave vocalist Kaahrl Ødemark because his delivery and attitude were very much in keeping with what we had in mind for The 3rd Attempt. We have put together a demo of a track with Kaahrl on vocals as a way of introducing him to everyone. The track 'The Beast Within, 'which also features Carpathian Forest's Daniel Vrangsinn on bass and Anders Kobro on drums, can be heard below." More...

Amoral Streaming The Cure Cover, Announces Album

Amoral - Finnish ambassador of classic rock for the 21st century - ends the year with a little surprise for fans. Recorded at the ”Fallen Leaves & Dead Sparrows” sessions, the band's version of The Cure's ”Burn” is now available online.

”I've been a huge fan of the song ever since I heard it in The Crow film back in 1994,” says guitarist Ben Varon, ”and once Masi (Hukari) admitted to be another big fan of the tune, we began the not-so-subtle lobbying of it to the rest of the guys. Luckily they got aboard as well, as I think the cover turned out quite cool. Especially vocal producer Marco Hietala's ideas for the vocal lines helped give the song a little twist of it's own, even though we decided to otherwise keep the arrangement fairly close to the original.”

Amoral is currently getting ready to record a 7th album, with tracking starting in February at Sound Supreme studios in Hämeenlinna, Finland. The band is aiming for a late 2015 release. More...

Unearthing the Metal Underground

Whenever I meet people from outside Austria and we get to talk about Austrian metal bands it is a safe bet that people will come up with death metal veterans like Pungent Stench and Miasma - who both sadly enough are no longer active in their original line ups. Last not least of course the Austrian blackened death metal juggernaut Belphegor will always get a mention.

Today it's time to take a closer look at that country's secret Austrian metal underground capital, the city of Graz, for a threesome of Austria's best you probably never heard of but are sure worth listening to. Read on to discover three bands that all go in different directions while remaining inside the realm of melodic death and thrash metal: the modern melodic death metal outfit Disfigured Divinity, progressive melodic metal group Rest In Fear, and melodic death thrash band veterans Darkfall.

Disfigured Divinity

The melodic death metallers are offering songs rich in variety and composed of a well-made mix of catchy choruses and violent galopping mosh parts.

The band dropped their debut album "Zapotectron" in 2013, which can be bought at BigCartel, iTunes and Amazon-Mp3. Two clips for their songs "Mandatory Heirs" and "Insignificance In Space And Time" can be streamed below.

Neil Turbin Contradicts Onslaught's Nige Rockett

Talking to the "Heavy Metal Mayhem" radio show earlier this month, Neil Turbin claims that he simply didn't have enough time to prepare all songs and he states that he left the trek in Anaheim because he was owed thousands of dollars in back pay and his share of the merchandise revenue.

Says Neil Turbin: "If people want the truth, here's the truth. The truth is that I have a contract that was sent… dated September 26th. The contract itself has a date of September 23rd, but I e-mailed the completed, executed contract to the leader of Onslaught on the 26th, so I had less than thirtee days that I was confirmed in writing, by contract, to do the "Thrash Invasion Tour" of North America - U.S. and Canada - Brazil and Chile. So that date range on that contract, just so you know… If you want the facts, here's the facts… That date range was from October 23rd to December 11, 2014. And this contract was negotiated between myself and the leader of Onslaught, so there were some changes to it before we came to the conclusion, before it was executed. The reason I left the tour two days before it ended… I left it in Anaheim… I had a conversation with the leader of Onslaught before we went on stage, and that conversation was about money. And it was specifically about the last-week-of-the-tour money and also moneys that were due to me per the contract. More...

Jeff explains, 'I've been in the game for a long time but my roots started more on the heavier side of the tracks, I thought it was about time I came home to visit the family and stick around for a while!."

The band is comprised of Jeff's most current solo band, who he insisted on making this musical merge with him. Jorge Salan (lead guitar), BJ (keys, guitars), David Z (bass) and Edu Cominato (drums). Soto adds, 'These guys come from different parts of the world and bring their own influence to make this band very special.
