Currently on its third vocalist following the departure of Opeth's Mikael Åkerfeldt, Bloodbath is now led by new vocalist Nick Holmes from Paradise Lost.

To go along with the vocalist swap, Bloodbath's latest album of dark and dirty death metal, "Grand Morbid Funeral," is out now.

Following the official release, we caught up with Bloodbath's Per "Sodomizer" Ericksson to find out how the new front man joined on, when we can expect the band to hit the live stage again, and gauge the likelihood of the band's former vocalists ever performing live with the group again. More...

Baptists Releases "Bloodmines" Video

Baptists today proudly unveils a disturbing video for the title track off second LP, "Bloodmines," released in October via Southern Lord. Check it out below, or over at CVLTNation.com here.

The Vancouver four-piece has made clear its surroundings, as both of the band's LPs feature artwork which frame the thick and ancient West Coast forests. With the video for "Bloodmines," we gain even further insight in to the condemning view that the band holds on the surreal relationship that exists between big business, tree cutters, and untouched nature.

Directed by Brian Sepanzyk, the visuals are overwhelmingly nervous and unstable, and glimpses of murderous intent and exploitation are to be found lodged somewhere deep in the vertical crowd of firs. The "Bloodmines" track listing is as follows: More...

Cold Colours Issues Year-End Update

Cold Colours has checked in with the following announcement about splitting with its label and starting work on new material:

"We are currently working on new music. We recently parted ways with our label of 5 years - Sleaszy Rider Records. Therefore, rather than working on a new full length - we will instead be looking at other avenues for releasing new music.

"Other than the obvious releasing of online material, we are also going to release a split 7” record with our friends in Amiensus sometime in 2015. Both bands will be contributing brand new songs. We will be continually debuting new material live as well. Stay tuned to our various web avenues for updates.

"We would also like to welcome back Jaden Adair to the Cold Cuts family. J was in CC before in 2008, when we were a VERY different band. Luckily, this will also help bring some 'clean' vocals back to the band. His first show will be January 16 at the Triple Rock when we open for Dark Tranquillity and Insomnium. We would also like to thank Brett Ahlgren for helping us out for the past few months. Anyone looking for a great bass player should hit him up! More...

New Black Metal Documentary Coming

"Black Metal From The End Of The World" is a set of portraits of musicians and followers of black metal in Latin America, and especially Argentina. The documentary will feature interviews with members of The Kovenant, Hades, Blasphemer, and more. The creators of the film comment:

"Satanism, Nordic culture and religion return to paganism and the rejection of imperialism; all these elements together conform a spiritual and ideological research through the most extreme form of metal.

"It is not a guetto picture, but the starting point to a universal questioning in which we all can feel related; our own path to discover our true selves, in first place, and then, the process of cultural identity of masses, specially in times of technological acculturation."

Enslaved Issues Final Studio Report

Checking in from Solslottet Studio in Bergen, members of Norwegian progressive extreme metal band Enslaved today offers the last installment in the seven-part “Diary of Mad Men” series.

The studio series sheds insight into the band’s upcoming as-yet-untitled thirteenth studio album, set for an early 2015 release.

"Then it was time for me to do some howling, cursing, screaming and singing again,” contributes Enslaved bassist & vocalist Grutle Kjellson. “We moved a few meters from Duper to co-producer Iver Sandøy's own Solslottet Studios and rigged up what we usually do with a set of three microphones: A Shure SM 7B for growls and screams, a RFT CM-7151 (commonly known as 'The Leipzig bottle') for chants & whispering etc., and a Neumann UM-57 for clean vocals.

"We were fortunately lucky with the energy, atmosphere, and my vocal shape the first day, so we were able to lay down my vocal tracks for half of the songs the first day… that is, with the exception some dubbing I usually do on Herbrand [Larsen]'s vocals. It was also time to lay down some tracks with both the Moog Taurus pedals and with one of Enslaved's treasures that has been with us since 1991 (!): Ivar [Bjørnson]’s Roland SH-1. A great day at work and an ever-growing confidence that this album will destroy everything we have done prior to this.”

Keyboard player & clean vocalist Herbrand Larsen adds: “This album will be rawer and more direct… more in your face!”

Main recordings for the new album are taking place at Duper and Solslottet Studios in Bergen, Norway with additional recordings done at Conclave & Earshot Studios (presided over by Enslaved members Larsen and Ice Dale) and Ivar Bjørnson’s Peersonal Sound Studios.

Arbitrator Offering Song For Download

Arbitrator's upcoming 2015 release will be entitled "Indoctrination of Sacrilege" and was produced by Sacha Laskow (ex-Divinity, Every Hour Kills), mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy), and features album artwork by Colin Marks (Exodus, Scar Symmetry, Jeff Loomis).

The first track "For That Which May Appease Lions" from the forthcoming 2015 album is now available for free download on PuregrainAudio.com here. You can also stream the track below.

Arbitrator's Robert Kukla comments: "'For That Which May Appease Lions' is quite possibly one of my favourite tracks off of the new album. Dark, 'Resident Evil' style passages compliment sections of blistering blast beats performed by the skins-king himself, Dirk Verbeuren. It is a track that is as dynamic as it is brutal, and certainly not for those that shy away from the radical nature of the progressive genre." More...

Hypothermia Signs With Agonia Records

Swedish ritualistic rock/black metal band Hypothermia, featuring ex-members of Lifelover and members of Kall, has signed a record deal with Agonia Records. The band's new album, the successor to "Skogens hjärta" (2010), is set to be released in early 2015.

Agonia Records comments: "The mysticism of Hypothermia is characterized by its highly ritualistic compositions, which are conducted in shamanistic trances of minimalism, and binding their followers in its meditative spell. Always recorded live, sharing with the world something honest and unique. Hypothermia was founded in 2001 as a means to channel negativity and manifest it in audial form."

Hypthermia had this to say: "Following ancient traditions carried in spirit and blood, through wanderings and introspective journeys a communion with a deity of the void is formed."

After being active for thirteen years, the constellation of Hypothermia has evolved through the years from a duo to a trio, and will be stepping further out of obscurity by slowly evolving to an orchestra.

Commented Kim Carlsson (vocals/guitars): "It is with great joy and pride that we announce this union for our three upcoming works of ritualistic minimalism! As two strong forces emerging out into the world from the underground, we believe this collaboration will elevate and prove to our congregation that those with a bleeding devotion will be rewarded, thus we raise our chalices for a new era!"
