Exhumed Re-Records "Gore Metal"

Originally released in 1998, Exhumed's debut full-length, "Gore Metal," was a boundary defying offering of filth-ridden, grinding, over-the-top death-metal.

Not content to let the album rot away, Exhumed returned to the studio almost two decades later to re-record the landmark offering. The resulting "Gore Metal: A Necrospective 1998 - 2015," set for release this February via Relapse Records, maintains the maniacal ferocity of the original recordings while adding depth to the sonic devourment thanks in no small part to years of touring and a vastly improved-sounding recording quality.

Proclaims vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey: "I'm super pumped that we got the chance to re-record Gore Metal. I don't think any of us were happy with how it turned out the first time around, so getting another shot at it meant a lot to me personally. I was also really excited to have our old friend Ross Sewage reprise his vocals on the new version, ensuring that it still sounds like that era of EXHUMED, though things are a lot more audible this time around!"

The track listing is as follows:

1. Necromaniac
2. Open The Abscess
3. Postmortem Procedures
4. Limb From Limb
5. Enucleation
6. Casket Crusher
7. Death Mask
8. In My Human Slaughter House

Symphony X Issues Album Update

In true “no update until there's something to say” form, New Jersey’s progressive metal masters from Symphony X have been quiet as of late.

Don't let the silence fool you, though; they've been busy. So busy, in fact, that a new CD is almost done! Recording of the drums, lead vocals, rhythm guitar, and bass – a.k.a. the bulk of the as-yet-untitled new album - is complete.

In the next few weeks, the keyboards, guitar solos, background vocals, and some miscellaneous odds and ends will be done, with the goal to have everything recorded by the end of the month.

Symphony X guitarist & songwriter Michael Romeo comments: "The plan was to have everything tracked by Christmas, and we're pretty much on schedule. Things are moving at a good pace, and the songs are starting to come to life. More on that down the road a bit."

A Light Within Announces New Single

The Kansas City-based shoegaze post-metallers from A Light Within are proud to announce a new single is due to arrive next month.

“Between Shores” marks a departure from the band's previously Deftones-tinged material on the "Preface" EP into a much gloomier and more mournful direction. Vocalist Kyle Brandt's voice has shifted accordingly, taking on a somber yet dulcet baritone to complement the swelling chords and soft tremolo, with expansive ambient soundscapes to sweep the listener along.

The track rounds out the band's upcoming as-yet-untitled EP, due for release in late April 2015. In the mean time, check out the full "Preface" release below. More...

Corrections House Cancels Tour Dates

Due to vocalist Mike IX Williams' exhaustive touring and recording schedule these past years, a doctor's strict orders for rest, vitamins, and general physical recovery has been prescribed, and it is with deep regret that Corrections House has postponed the last few remaining dates of the
"Writing History In Advance" U.S. tour.

Notes Williams in an official statement: "Overwork, nonstop travel, overexertion on stage and poor eating habits will eventually grind you to rubble. I need a bit of time to heal and repair my wounded body and mind."

The "Writing History In Advance" recording is a menacing testament of sonic decay captured live in Los Angeles earlier this year. The release is available over here. The band's newly recorded, as-yet-untitled sophomore offering will also be released in 2015 along with a brand new round of live infiltrations to be announced next year.

Pirosaint Splits With Vocalist

NY-based group Pirosaint today announces that Gonzalo Rodriguez will no longer continue as the band's vocalist. This decision was taken after 15 months of working together.

The last effort including vocalist Gonzalo Rodriguez was the track "Tonight," which can be heard over here. Drummer Ignacio Orellana also commented:

"We are very sad to be announcing this, Gonzalo has been the singer of the band since the band was formed back in 1989, but we have to move on and find somebody locally. We've recorded the music of 11 tracks since last year, and this have put us almost right back where we've started in 2011. With an advantage because, we have music and the demos for the vocal tracks for all the material, so we just need someone with the right attitude and feel, that can work with us."

Any interested vocalist in the Poughkeepsie/NYC area can get in touch with the band at this location.

Rest Among Ruins Streaming New Track

Baltimore, Maryland based progressive metal band Rest Among Ruins, featuring vocalist Mike Semesky (Raunchy, ex-Intervals/The HAARP Machine) has released a new song titled "Beyond The Storm."

"The Storm" is taken off upcoming album "Fugue," which is set for a 2015 release. The album was produced by Drewsif Stalin, and is slated to be a 14 song concept album. Semesky had this to say:

"The album concept was inspired by the story of a fascinating patient I had the pleasure of meeting when I was working at a psychiatric hospital, back before I began pursuing my music career. This person's extremely rare clinical condition was the unfortunate result of a severe traumatic incident, and it sparked a hauntingly fascinating journey in his life under a fictitious identity of which his mind had created. It was unlike any other case I'd ever heard of throughout my experience in the field.

"Out of respect for rights and privacy, the album absolutely does not reveal names or any identifying details. The lyrics are written in first-person, stream of consciousness form, and shift in and out of his reality, dreams, and dissociation as the story progresses. The instrumentation of the album adapts stylistically to best compliment each chapter of the story, and explores a broad range of heavy and melodic metal, prog, and rock.

"We hope you enjoy the first dose of our album and we can't wait for you to experience the story in its entirety! Guitar playthrough videos, more new music, and release details are soon to come!" More...

Vardan Releasing New Album

The busiest man in black metal, Vardan will delivers his 22nd album to date, "Verses From Ancient Times," on January 20th via Moribund Records. The label comments:

"Aptly titled, 'Verses From Ancient Times' is pure classic black metal: grimly pulsing, entrancingly melodic, raw as the dungeon and ghostly as the night. 2014 was a busy year for Vardan, with three critically acclaimed full-lengths on Moribund, all of which mastered the depressive suicidal black metal sound.

"Here, with 'Verses From Ancient Times,' Vardan delivers four epics of atmospheric majesty - strictly and totally within the realm of traditional BM, but with a special darkness and grit that's entirely his own. Open the crypt and memorize 'Verses From Ancient Times!'"

The Bloodline Posts Album Teaser

The Bloodline has a teaser trailer out now for upcoming album "We Are One," which can be seen below. Another Century (the spin-off label of Century Media) issued the following statement:

"The brotherhood of a band should extend beyond its members. On their full-length debut album 'We Are One,' The Bloodline builds a bond that's instantly relatable.

"It’s cast in a grinding groove of metallic instrumentation and hard rock hooks, collectively conveying a sense of camaraderie. In fact, the Chicago quartet—Travis Neal [vocals], Shaun Glass [guitar], Chuck Wepfer [lead guitar], and Frankie Harchut [drums]—initially found that union within their songs. From the ashes of Dirge Within, The Bloodline rose.

"The much-anticipated debut offering, We Are One, is now officially set for a March 24th release. The video trailer to the album’s intro title track can be streamed below."

In 2014, the band cut "We Are One" with producer Joel Wanasek [Righteous Vendetta, Vinyl Theatre]. "It's very groove heavy with huge melodies and epic hooks," Shaun Glass describes. "The listener can nod their heads and really lock in.”

"This has been a long growing process," Shaun leaves off. "Everything fell into place. Nothing was forced. I hope people get addicted to the album. I want them to crave it. They can be a part of this with us forever." More...

Thurisaz Releasing CD/DVD

The Belgian atmospheric black/death metal band Thurisaz and the label Sleazy Rider Records have set January 24th of 2015 as release date for upcoming CD/DVD "Thurisaz: Live & Acoustic." The cover artwork and track listing can be seen below, and Thurisaz comments:

"Thurisaz has always been more than just heavy songs with distorted guitars, growls and screams... There has always been a more softer and emotional side to Thurisaz... Often acoustic songs with mainly clean vocals and emotional lyrics. We never wanted to play those songs live before, because we felt that playing them amongst the heavier songs wouldn't do them justice. But throughout the years we realized that a lot of the fans also appreciate this other side of Thurisaz.

"That's why, in September 2013, we decided it was time for a new challenge: an acoustic show with all the songs we didn't play before. We didn't want to bring the songs too literally, we wanted to add something special that would raise the songs a few levels. The aim was to bring a total experience, in a cool venue, with live projections, an awesome lightshow and of course additional strings. It was also a chance to pay homage to the bands that influenced us throughout the years. It took us 9 months of hard work, but in the end we gave birth to something beautiful that made it all worthwhile... "

The track listing is as follows:

1. Symbols
2. Interlude I
3. Years Of Silence
4. Finality (Woods Of Ypres cover)
5. Never To Return
6. A Natural Disaster (Anathema cover)
7. Inner Voices
8. Interlude II
9. Broken
10. Fading Dreams
11. My Kantele (Amorphis cover)
12. Past Perfect

The CD/DVD was recorded and filmed in front of a live audience and with a choir on the 1st of March, 2014 at a sold-out show at the GC Forum in Wervik, the band's hometown. More...

Ensiferum Announces New Album "One Man Army"

Finnish folk/viking metal act and recent Metal Blade Records signees, Ensiferum, will unleash their sixth studio album this winter. Entitled "One Man Army," the predominantly analog-recorded offering was tracked between September and November of this year with award-winning producer Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene, Entwine etc.) at Astia-studio in Lappeenranta, Finland.

Elaborates Ensiferum bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka of the sessions: "Recording process was long, hard, rewarding and full of incredible moments. Instruments were actually played and left as they were instead of creating tracks from hundreds of different takes, moving them to the grid and modifying things. Of course computers were used but overall we made everything as analog as possible. Listeners can experience a better sound and natural groove, something that we think most metal albums lack these days. Overall, the album sounds much more like a band playing live rather than ‘midi-metal.’"

Ensiferum's "One Man Army" serves as the follow-up to 2012’s lauded "Unsung Heroes" full-length and boasts the stunningly detailed, mythological cover craftings of renowned illustrator Gyula Havancsák (Annihilator, Týr, Elvenking, Stratovarius etc) (shown below).

"On the new album, we took many things musically to the next level so we decided also to try something new graphics-wise," relays Hinkka. "Gyula Havancsák who did phenomenal job! For the first time it was really nice to be more involved with designing the cover and all details. Our humble gratitude to Gyula for all the patience and really amazing results. We couldn't be more satisfied!"

As a precursor to the release, today Ensiferum is pleased to unleash the fittingly-titled "Warmetal" for public consumption. Composed by Demonos Sova of Finnish black metal unit, Barathrum, the track is currently available on the covermount CD of the current issue of Germany’s Legacy - The Voice From The Dark Side and is streaming in all its battle-ready glory at this location.
