Album Covers Inspired By Movie Posters
Facebook community And Justice For Art and Metal Underground keep exploring the world of look-alike album covers. This time we're focusing on three artworks that are inspired (or keep a reasonable resemblance) with well-known movie posters. Were the bands and visual artists aware of this at the moment of creating the artworks or is it just a coincidence? Let's find out what they have to say... There will be more of these in future "And Justice For Art" episodes. Stay alert!
MESHUGGAH Vs. "ALIEN"
The first one is the artwork for Meshuggah's "Alive." In 2010, the infamous Swedish genre-bending band, decided to pay homage on the cover of their live CD/DVD to one of the most revered SciFi/Horror movies in history.
Drummer Tomas Haake took inspiration from the now iconic poster for the first "Alien" film and designed a cover that visually and conceptually praises the virtues of the original image, which features the Alien egg opening upside down and the unforgettable tagline "In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream."
In Meshuggah's case, Hakke changed the egg for the head of vocalist, Jens Kidman, and added the phrase "In Space No One Can Hear You Unless You Scream." This gives the whole effort, an humorous punch which is enhanced by the positioning of the lettering—pretty much identical to the original poster.
No doubt, the overall effect is quite satisfactory, especially because it comes from a band whose intricate music sometimes seems to come from outer space! More...
Slice The Cake Announces New Album
Slice The Cake has checked in with the following announcement about releasing a new album:

I.N.C. Talks New Album "Black Hearse Serenade"
Reforming in 2010 after two decades of inactivity and dropping the comeback album "Heaven Sent...Hellbound" the next year, Indestructible Noise Command (I.N.C.) just dropped fourth full-length album "Black Hearse Serenade" at the end of the Fall.
We caught up with lead guitarist Erik Barath (who recently shared a pit story with us about an over-eager fan wearing nothing but a sock) to discuss the album, I.N.C. embarking on a tour with a band of a very different style, and what classic band he'd like to see reform. More...
Wino To Headline Feast Of Krampus
After being deported from Norway for meth possession, Scott "Wino" Weinrich will be returning to the stage later this month.
Brooklyn-based booking/promotions agency Some Pig Presents is proud to announce the first annual music festival Feast of Krampus, with dates in Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Conceived as a dark and twisted holiday celebration, Feast of Krampus will feature the heavy metal legend Wino, along with a supporting bill.
Save your holiday cheer for the department stores and cocktail parties; Feast of Krampus is a dark offering of blood, volume, and mayhem to the merciless lord of Yuletide terror.
Headlining the inaugural Feast of Krampus will be Wino, front man of quintessential heavy bands Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, and Spirit Caravan. For over 30 years he has stood as a pillar of the genre, and his prolific studio output and constant touring reveal an unrivaled longevity.
Also appearing at both dates will be heavy veterans Sixty Watt Shaman. Filling out each bill are a number of noteworthy acts both local and regional. In Philly we'll be joined by Wizard Eye, Skeleton Hands, and Chimpgrinder, while Brooklyn support includes Godmaker, Birch Hill Dam, Moon Tooth, and Buzzard Canyon. More...

The Drip Releases New Music Video
The Drip just released the band's first official video through Metal Injection, the violent visuals crafted for "Siren," which hails from the band's grinding Relapse debut, "A Presentation Of Gruesome Poetics."
Directed by Owen Mansfield, the "Siren" video was filmed during one of the band's regional live attacks earlier this year in support of the vicious EP's release in April, taking the viewer inside a hometown mutiny at Rays Golden Lion in Richland, Washington back in April. Accursed Spawn Posts Performance Footage
Accursed Spawn has released footage of "Date Rape Psychosis" from a recent performance in Montreal, QC at Bar L'Alizé. Drummer Jay Cross comments:
“Date Rape Psychosis is probably the first song most people heard from us. We released it as part of our first demo, Dismember the Informant, back in 2010 and have been playing it live ever since. It's great to have some proper footage of it to show people, since the original recording is pretty lo-fi. Ondes Chocs did a great job of putting the it all together!”
The footage was recorded by Dr. Light for the Quebec-based blog Ondes Chocs. Accursed Spawn recently released second EP "Putrid," which can be purchased at Bandcamp here. More...
Sarpanitum Announces New Album Release
Sarpanitum - which features within its consuming ranks current and former members of Mithras, Lantlos, and Tenebrous Aeon - will release a second full-length and first for Willowtip Records this February.
"Blessed Be My Brothers" will be unleashed via Willowtip Records on February 17th, 2015 with pre-orders and teaser tracks to be posted shortly. Stay vigilant.
The ten-track follow-up to 2011's "Fedelium" EP was composed over a two-year period, tracked at Dreaming Studios U.K. by drummer Leon Macey (Contrarian, Mithras, The Senseless et al) and boasts a diseased fusion of traditional death metal, blackened guitar riff compulsions, and melodic atmospheres.
Comments Tom Innocenti of the release: "Blessed Be My Brothers is true labor of love. The record maintains a blackened death metal sound but also incorporates more personal touches in terms of the music and lyrical themes. The song writing and atmospheric elements have progressed vastly since our first album, Despoilment Of Origin and Fidelium EP while still being recognizable as Sarpanitum. Listeners will notice a huge leap forward with regards to this album. Blessed Be My Brothers is a journey into the hearts and minds of those caught the turmoil of religious warfare. A subject that is as relevant today as it was over a thousand years ago."

Caina Announces New Album
After a decade spent exploring almost every genre imaginable, Caïna's upcoming LP and fifth album, "Setter of Unseen Snares," is a return to the project's inception as a black metal act, as well as founder Andrew Curtis-Brignells personal roots in punk rock and hardcore.
This is the first release in which the Caïna frontman shares production duties with anyone else, giving the project an enormous new sound.
Andrew explains, "Setter of Unseen Snares tells the story of Earth's last family and the way in which each member chooses (or is chosen) to deal with the end of the world. Some are sacrificed, others are less fortunate. The snares tighten regardless."
With this full length, Caïna has produced a massive cacophony of desperation and anxiety. Andrew also adds, "the song "Applicant/Supplicant" effectively encapsulates the album as a whole, combining furious black metal, d-beat driven hardcore, cosmic soundscapes and arcane vocal ululations in its short runtime."
Check out the new song "Vowbound" below, thanks to CVLT Nation. The full track listing is as follows:
1. Introduction
2. I am the Flail of the Lord
3. Setter of Unseen Snares

Enslaved Reveals New Album Details
"In Times" will be the title of the thirteenth studio album by Norwegian progressive extreme metallers Enslaved.
The hand-painted artwork is by long-time collaborating artist and “sixth Enslaved member” Truls Espedal. The album will be released on March 6th (Europe) and March 10th, 2015 (North America). Guitarist & composer Ivar Bjørnson shares the following about the band’s latest creation:
“I was so deep into the songs and ideas for such a long time (or have my head so far up my own as, if you prefer more direct language) that it is hard to have any ‘opinions’ about them that is anything else than the high-flying mumbo-jumbo of the introvert song-smith. The songs are extensions of my inner and outer life, the thoughts I am aware of having, as well as those that lie too deep to register in everyday consciousness.
"The songs are the resounds of grandiose altered states and mundane tiny micro-events. In addition, they are, of course, also the result of inspiration from other music and art. I do think this new album is the most consistent body of work we have so far: It incorporates our ‘blacker’ past with our influences from prog rock, our present sense of absolute freedom, and the joy of being in this band, if that makes any sense… Ha, ha, ha. It is higher in energy, more aggressive, yet more beautiful and subtle. It simply sounds inspired.”
The track listing is as follows:
1. Thurisaz Dreaming
2. Building With Fire
3. One Thousand Years Of Rain
4. Nauthir Bleeding
5. In Times
6. Daylight More...
Void Paradigm To Release New Album
Two years have passed since Void Paradigm’s unexpected debut album, 2012’s self-titled "Void Paradigm."
The French black metal trio - formed by Jonathan Théry (Ataraxie, Funeralium), Alexis Damien (Pin-Up Went Down, ex-Wormfood) and Julien Payan (Ataraxie, Sordide) - is crafting a sound dubbed "hypnotis dodecatonic black metal," a dissonant experience for chaotic minds.
Apathia Records will release "Earth’s Disease" in April/May 2015, with audio samples coming in the next few weeks. In the meantime, the band's debut album can be streamed below. More...

Akral Necrosis Issues Year-End Update
Akral Necrosis has issued the following year-end update and announcement about lineup changes:
"Before the year ends, we’d like to let you know what’s been going on lately in the Akral Necrosis camp, especially since many of you have been asking about any forthcoming concerts of ours, or sometimes have invited us to play at various events (which we had to decline). We want to thank you for your patience and to say it won’t be long until we meet again.
"First and foremost, we present to you the new Akral Necrosis line-up: in addition to our veterans, Octav (lead vocals), Victor (guitar), and Mishu (bass), we’re enjoying a fresh blood infusion: Andrei will be joining us with his guitar, while Traian will be in charge with the drums.
"Although Andrei is for the first time part of a band, that doesn’t mean he lacks experience. We had the opportunity to get familiar with many of his solo compositions, besides a black metal project he was working on for some time – Hunter’s Moon. We are looking forward to show you a song made with his contribution under the Akral Necrosis banner.
"Traian is not unknown in the local scene from Romania, being part of many underground bands over the years. A destroyer behind his drum kit, we believe this musical nomad has found a home and a fitting challenge with us. More...
Les Discrets Working On New Album
Les Discrets is currently working on a forthcoming album, and a teaser clip can be heard below. The band also comments:
"Nowadays, I'm preparing the recordings of the third Les Discrets album. I decided to record it by myself for once, considering there is a lot of electronic in it. I'll move to the countryside for 2 months in January to make the follow up to Ariettes Oubliées.
"My music has considerably evolved since two years, and I'm very excited that I found what I thought had disappeared: the will to make beautiful music. I'm using new instruments, many synthesizers, more reverb than ever and no drums anymore.
"I worked each song so much that I can't count the different versions, which I've never done in the past, and I guess the final output will be very cinematographic, atmospheric and terribly melancholic. It'll be very Les Discrets-ish but in quite a different approach.
"Also, the mixing of Live at Roadburn will soon start, for an expected release this year. So there is stuff to come from us! And because you're such cool people, here is a short preview of a demo." More...

Krimh comments: "I feel very honored to join such a great band which has been one of my favorites since years. Septicflesh’s music is outstanding and unique. It is melodic and heavy but with groove. Exactly how I like it! I can't wait to start a new chapter with SF and see you on the road."
The Austrian drummer has already gained a strong reputation for his work with Decapitated (2009 - 2012). Before playing with the Polish death metal act he was part of the symphonic black metal band Thorns Of Ivy (2006 - 2009). Furthermore Lechner released a solo album entitled "Explore" in 2013 and helped Behemoth out on tour, while regular drummer Zbigniew Robert Prominski underwent surgery. More...
Outrun The Sunlight Streams "Achievement"
Outrun The Sunlight today streams "Achievement," which is the last of nine tracks to appear on upcoming album "Terrapin." Listen in below, and the band also comments:
"At last, we have reached the end, the final day before Terrapin is released. When I think back to when I first began demoing the ideas for this album, OTS consisted of mainly myself and my computer. Yes, Cody was there over Skype, but he lived in Michigan, working at a septic company while I was in film school, realizing that I did not feel as passionately about directing as I did about music.
"In my mind, Cody moved to Chicago for two reasons: he felt he needed a change, and he wanted to take OTS to a different level. I felt the same, but school consumed my time and energy, and a lot of the writing we planned to do was done very inefficiently, and with little direction.
"Cody started working at a boutique grocery store, quickly attaining a manger's position, and I graduated, taking a full-time position at a music production company. We've both grown as people, and as adults, all the while, working to grow this band. More...

The Midnight Ghost Train Posts New Video
Flowing beards and sweat dripping off the walls: two things that surely define Kansas-based trio The Midnight Ghost Train.

"Finally, after 3 years, I am pleased to present my 3rd full-length album, 'Libertine Cyst' to the world. This album was the most challenging thing I've ever had to do musically. I was dealt an endless amount of obstacles (some self-created) which constantly resulted in delaying my progress.
"I feel that this record stands as a testament that the path of maximum resistance produces a more thoroughly honed work of art. I think the material contained here marks a new height in my song writing and atmosphere for this project. It's hard to express how pleased and relieved I am to finally have this behind me and shift my gaze even further into the blackness beyond the stars. This is where it ends for me, and starts for everyone else." More...
