Outrun The Sunlight Streaming New Track "Achievement"
Outrun The Sunlight today streams "Achievement," which is the last of nine tracks to appear on upcoming album "Terrapin." Listen in below, and the band also comments:
"At last, we have reached the end, the final day before Terrapin is released. When I think back to when I first began demoing the ideas for this album, OTS consisted of mainly myself and my computer. Yes, Cody was there over Skype, but he lived in Michigan, working at a septic company while I was in film school, realizing that I did not feel as passionately about directing as I did about music.
"In my mind, Cody moved to Chicago for two reasons: he felt he needed a change, and he wanted to take OTS to a different level. I felt the same, but school consumed my time and energy, and a lot of the writing we planned to do was done very inefficiently, and with little direction.
"Cody started working at a boutique grocery store, quickly attaining a manger's position, and I graduated, taking a full-time position at a music production company. We've both grown as people, and as adults, all the while, working to grow this band.
"We met Connor and Pedro after they contacted us via Facebook asking if we'd want to jam. Our immediate reaction was 'yes.' We spent 8 months workshopping our music before we played our first show. We didn't wanted to present ourselves in a way that we did not feel confident in, no matter how long it would take. Then, Adrian joined; after he helped us shoot our music video, he asked if he could learn 'The Pace of Glaciers' on piano. Perhaps these are reasons why Terrapin took so long to write.
"My good friend Nehemiah reminded me the other day that people are always looking for the next objective, the next gig, the next project, and many times forget to stop and think about what they had accomplished. This struck a chord in me; I felt I was guilty of this because I feel at peace when I am consistently working. I realized that it is important to honor your accomplishments, otherwise life just passes you by objective-by-objective, and you are left unfulfilled. He finished by referencing Alan Watts, saying that if you are always 'chasing the carrot' you forget to be alive.
"This is my attempt at honoring Terrapin. Three years of work, countless demos, 46 minutes of finely tuned music, 3 new members, a home-base in Chicago, a sense of community, and a crowd-funded record that exceeded its goal.
"I truly feel grateful. So now, please stream and enjoy the finale track from Terrapin."
