"Negation takes their music to an aggressive, soul-grinding, and explosive level. They are ready to tear you apart limb from limb with a vortex of extreme metal.

"The path of Negation is that of absolute imageless transcendence. The rejection of a reality characterized by self-regarding emotions. To negate the subjectivity of oneself is to see things clearly, as they truly are. Empty, free of form. Though through emptiness, all things find their true form. Pure. Despite Recruits Third Guitarist

Swedish outfit Despite has issued the following announcement about recruiting a third guitar player:

"We'd like to take this moment to present to you all our latest addition to the Despite line-up, our third guitarist Zoran Panovic. Due to all the harmonies that we have on our studio recordings we felt that it was only right to bring another guitarist to the fold, instead of putting it all on backtracks when we do live shows.

"Zoran is now a full time member of Despite, and is NOT to be considered as a session musician. Zoran has studied at Berklee Music College in Boston, USA, so we have no worries what so ever of his capabilities to play and contribute to our new material."

Zoran also had this to say: "I'm super stoked about being a member of the Despite family. The guys have greeted me with open arms, so I feel right at home. I'm so looking forward to our future endeavours together and to see what 2015 has in store for Despite!" More...

Pit Stories: Razor In The Pit

The pit is where the action is, but sometimes metal heads take things a bit too far with all that energy pumping as front men scream about blood and murder.

There's a million and one Pit Stories out there, and we're on a quest to find them all! This week Charlie Goler from Canadian outfit Golers shares a tale of his introduction to live punk shows, which included a razor making its way into the pit...

One of the most fucked up things I saw happen in the pit was back around 1987 at the first punk rock show that I have ever seen in Halifax, Nova Scotia. SNFU, System Overload and False Security were playing at the Old Carpenter's Hall on Gottingen Street. At that time I was living in New Glasgow which wasn't that far from Halifax so I went up to see the show. I was blown away with the bands and SNFU was just killing it so as a result the pit was completely out of control.

Everyone was slamming and having an awesome time. Unknown to me, some idiot was slashing people in the pit with a razorblade while they were jumping around. After a few songs SNFU caught wind of what was going on because there were several people that were cut up and bleeding.

I remember Chi Pig was freaking out on the mike and screaming that "if anyone can identify this loser they should kick the shit out of him." Unfortunately , the razor blade was found on the floor and no one ever figured out who the asshole was. This was my introduction to punk rock shows.

For info on upcoming Golers activity, head over to the band's Facebook page here, and be sure to check back in next week as we share more Pit Stories from across the metalverse. More...

Harm's Way Announces New Album

"Rust" is the title of the new album from Harm's Way, due out March 10th, 2015. The album was recorded at Brick Top Recordings by Andy Nelson (Weekend Nachos, Dead In The Dirt), mixed at God City Studios by Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire), and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Obituary, Nails). Deathwish Inc. comments on the coming album:

"Opener 'Infestation' stomps with machine-like precision before plunging into a depressing sonic dirge. While songs like 'Law Of The Land,' 'Hope,' 'Cancerous Ways,' and others introduce guitar and electronic driven atmospherics into the arsenal.

"These subtle dynamics bleed into other aspects of 'Rust' as well. Mid-album beast 'Left To Disintegrate' unfurls as an unforgettable anti-anthem ripe with infectious creeping metallic undertones. While 'Amongst The Rust' and 'Turn To Stone' introduce guest vocals from Colin Young (Twitching Tongues) and Emily Jancetic. Both of them adding haunting nuance to the brute force of the band. All of this leads to the epic closer 'Ease My Mind;' a take-no-prisoners aural bludgeoning so heavy that it needs to be heard to be believed."

The track listing is as follows:

01. Infestation
02. Law Of The Land
03. Cremation
04. Hope
05. Cancerous Ways
06. Amongst The Rust
07. Disintegrate
08. Docile Bodies
09. Turn To Stone
10. Ease My Mind

Extol Documentary To Air On Norwegian TV

Indie Recordings has issued the following announcement about an Extol documentary airing on Norwegian TV:

"The well-established Christian death metal band Extol can look back on a great career including a Norwegian Grammy nomination, several U.S. tours, top CD-sales and national recognition in press and music scene.

"In April they released the documentary 'Extol: Of Light And Shade,' the story of a band split in paradox between two worlds, Christianity and death metal. The film has been shown at various film festivals the past summer, and it will now be broadcasted on Norwegian TV channel NRK2, December 27th!

"Being strong believers in a music scene dominated by atheists and anti-religious practitioners creates some challenges. Extol, with its Christian content and death metal expression, has hence experienced its share of difficult situations and obstruction.

"Christians react with disgust on the aesthetics and effects the band uses, while the secular fraction of the music scene shows great dissatisfaction regarding the lyrical themes. On one side, local churches organized bonfire sessions of Extol products and held prayer meetings against the band, whilst on the other side they’ve experienced bomb threats from self-appointed Satanists before a gig, getting spat at and scorned.

"After 6 releases with success, 2007 was the start of a five year long break for Extol due to the vocalists strong tinnitus and anxiety. The documentary gives an insight on tinnitus and anxiety where the singer speaks openly about some of the challenges he experienced in 2007 and the years that followed. Questions about faith and freedom of speech set in a musical perspective are also important topics. The film does also illustrate the band's position in the Norwegian music scene and their international position. Eyvind Skeie, Hank von Helvete, now deceased Pater Arnfinn Haram and the charismatic American rock pastor Bob Beeman are some of the characters we meet in 'Extol: Of Light And Shade.'"

Voice Of The Soul Reveals Album Details

The Dubai-based extreme metallers from Voice of the Soul have today announced the release of their debut album "Catacombs." The album will be released via U.K. label Hell's Hammer & India's Transcending Obscurity on March 27th, 2015. The following press release was also issued about the band:

"First formed in Kuwait on the opposite side of the Persian Gulf in late 2007 17 year-old Kareem Chehayeb and 16 year-old Monish Shringi released their first EP, ‘Winds of Apprehension’ in July 2009 with second EP, ‘Eyes of Deceit’ seeking the light of day the following summer. After playing several shows in Dubai since January 2011, the band opted to relocate to the most popular city and emirate in the UAE before releasing their third EP, ‘Into Oblivion’, live on SOS Heavy Metal Radio in Portugal in August 2011. ‘Into Oblivion’ was undoubtedly the bands most successful record with songs receiving regular airplay across the globe. During April 2014, the band made home at Haven Studio with producer Hadi Sarieddine in Dubai and recorded their debut full-length album ‘Catacombs.'"

Kareem Chehayeb comments: "While the band started off as a straight up melodic death metal band, 'Catacombs' took on a different shift. The thrash has virtually disappeared from our sound on this album and riffs have some added 'colour' now which was inspired by bands like Opeth, Gojira, Daylight Dies, and various jazz bands that really inspired me to start writing metal again. 'Catacombs' also introduces occasional clean vocals, as well as more doom metal on some tracks."

The artwork was designed by Syrian Dubai-based artist Hamood Hallak of MHD Graphics, and was inspired by the concept of one of the tracks from the album called "Pendulum." More...

Whyzdom Releasing New Album

Scarlet Records has checked in with the following announcement about releasing a new album from Whyzdom:

"'Symphony For A Hopeless God’ is the third album of French Symphonic Metal band Whyzdom. After two successful albums relying on the power of symphonic orchestra and metal riffing, as well as on the beauty of female voices, they push their own 'Philharmonic Metal' concept one step further, adding an even more cinematic edge to their songs.

"Orchestra has never been so powerful. Choirs have never been so haunting. Riffs have never been so compelling. And vocals have never been so intense, ranging from pure and fragile melodies to harsh growls, all provided by mezzo-soprano Marie Rouyer. ‘Symphony For A Hopeless God’ depicts the constant need of humans to rely on the irrational to guide their life, and to give up their own freedom of thought, speech and action on behalf of what we know as 'religion.'

"Slaughters, genocides, ethnic cleansings, have too often been committed in the name of religion. What would God think of that if he really existed? This is exactly what this album is all about. 'Symphony For A Hopeless God' was produced by Vynce Leff, recorded, mixed and mastered in Paris at Powermania Studio, assisted by Mathieu Gillon (120dB Studio). The album will be available starting from February 17th, 2015."
