Schecter-sponsored guitarist and vocalist Jacklyn Paulette states, “This song was definitely interesting to play on acoustic guitars, but I think playing it this way really brought out the guitar melodies that tend to get a little buried when everything is in full blast.”
“A large portion of this song was actually written on the acoustic guitar, and it was later dissected and translated to the electric form you hear on the album,” adds guitarist Ryan Heggum.
Iron Bonehead Productions is proud to present an exclusive 12" vinyl pressing of Spire's monolithic "Metamorph" mini-album. The label comments:
"Hailing from the fertile Australian black metal scene, Spire erects slow-churning towers of misery and decay, hauntingly clouded with cavernous drones and otherworldly tones, and intermittent explosions of gnarly, coruscating grimness. The band's 'Metamorph,' originally released on CD in 2011 by Art of Propaganda, introduced Spire to the international black metal scene; the fortunate few who discovered it prized the release as a true cult classic.
"Now, while Spire lurks in the shadows planning their next psychic assault, Iron Bonehead steps in to unleash this cosmic monstrosity on vinyl - a format fitting for the organic slime Metamorph oozes. Transformation and transcendence begins now..."

"This ragtag crew has been active since 2011, but they hit like a hammer in the summer of 2014, thanks to the popularity of their YouTube videos, which found them offering up S'N'S'ed versions of metal classics like Iron Maiden's 'The Trooper' and AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck.'

The pioneers of Sumerian thrashing black metal from Melechesh have revealed the cover art for the band's upcoming studio album, "Enki," which can be seen below. Commented mainman, singer and guitarist Ashmedi:
"For the artwork we collaborated again with John Coulthart, who has done our previous two album covers. The art reflects the dynamics of the album and the world of Melechesh: order and chaos. It amalgamates several spiritual, cultural and mythological concepts from the Near/Middle East and our lyrical aspects. Again it was based in the golden ratio which for the purpose of this album seemed suitable. The pillars featured here are a continuation from the previous album and lead to a path of knowledge. John always manages to capture the essence of Melechesh."
Furthermore, due to unforeseen productional issues, the release of "Enki" had to be pushed to February 27th (EU), March 2nd (UK) and March 10th (US).
The follow-up to 2010's "The Epigenesis" marks the band's sixth full-length album and will feature iconic guests Max Cavalera and Rob Caggiano/ The album was recorded in Greece by Giorgos Bokos, while Jonas Kjellgren took care of the mix and mastering in his Black Lounge Studios in Sweden. Witherscape's "The New Tomorrow" EP is due out via Century Media Records on December 9th, 2014. The title track can be heard below.
Succeeding last year's debut album "The Inheritance" (which saw the band earn the "best newcomer" award in our year-end voting), the new EP marks a conceptual and musical bridge between the thick concept of the debut and an upcoming sophomore album, expected for a late 2015 release. The EP's track listing is:
1. The New Tomorrow (4:42)
2. Defenders Of Creation (4:27)

Australian outfit StarGazer (not to be confused with Pennsylvania band of the same name or Finnish band Stargazery) is releasing new album "A Merging to the Boundless" via Nuclear War Now! Productions. The label comments:
"Although the members of StarGazer are among the most active musicians in the Australian underground metal scene, they only infrequently release music under the StarGazer banner. Because of the band’s meticulous approach to every aspect of the music, when they do finally put out new material, there is little doubt as to the degree of quality one can expect. For these reasons, the announcement earlier this year that a new StarGazer album was on the horizon has generated a massive amount of anticipation, and with the release of A Merging to the Boundless, expectations will not only be met, but exceeded. The death metal alchemists from Execration are streaming the entirety of their forthcoming "Morbid Dimensions" album - set for North American release on December 9th via Hells Headbangers (Duplicate Records will be handling the European release). Check it out through the Bandcamp player below. Hells Headbangers comments:
"In many ways, Execration's third album is an album of contrasts: death metal in its purest state, but with a view toward experimentation; doomy and atmospheric at will, but with a forward propulsion that's palpitating; a well-grounded set of old-school influences, particularly homeland heroes Cadaver, but without the slightest whiff of 'retro' pandering. All told, Morbid Dimensions is the sound of a still young 'n' hungry band carving out their own niche, and with absolute cunning and confidence."
The track listing is as follows:
1. Cosmic Mausoleum
2. Ritual Hypnosis
4. Morbid Dimensions
5. Tribulation Shackles
7. Ancient Tongue
8. Miasmal Sabbath
9. Funeral Procession More...
As a teaser for their imminent debut album for Svart Records, the heavy death merchants from Heavydeath premiere the new clip "Ascending." Check it below, courtesy of CVLTNation.com.
If you couldn't tell from the name, Heavydeath was formed with the purpose of creating and playing some kind of “heavy death” music. The music is recorded as a trio. No frills: just guitar, bass, drums, and some vocals on top/inside of it. To date, Heaydeath have recorded four demos, alternately released on cassette and digital formats.
Slated for early 2015 release via Svart, the debut album of Heavydeath was recorded under rather simple conditions in the summer of 2014: simply a drum-kit, a bass, and a guitar and with no overdubs.
As the band state, "We have, just like the previous demo recordings, tried to keep the material straight and 'primitive' in the same Heavydeath style. We enjoy creating small details like morbid dis-harmonies and melodies in the riffs, but we have also tried to make it sound a little different than previous recordings. It would be boring if the album sounds exactly like the demo recordings. One thing is, for sure, it sounds heavy as death."
Title, full track listing, and release date for Heavydeath's imminent debut album for Svart are to be announced shortly. More...
Swedish death metal band Demonical has inked a worldwide record deal with Agonia Records. The label had this to say:
"Spawned in March 2006 by members of Centinex, the band preserves the flame of sheer, traditional death metal with a suitable dose of melodiousness and a damaging portion of unbound darkness and utter brutality. With four full-length albums having climbed high at reader-polls in several magazines, international tours and festival exclusives, Demonical will strike again in 2015."
Founder and bassist Martin Schulman commented: "We are genuinely thrilled to announce that Demonical have signed a new worldwide record deal with Agonia Records. I have already experienced the pleasure working with Agonia as they released the latest album from Centinex, so when the label approached me about signing Demonical as well it didn’t take me long to make my decision. I’m confident that Agonia’s potential, dedication and strong business knowledge will push Demonical into new heights and be a solid step forward for us on the path to utter death metal darkness."
He further added: "I would hereby also like to thank the entire Cyclone Empire crew for all the past years and for bringing us where we are today. Your support will not be forgotten."
The band's latest album, "Darkness Unbound," was released in 2013 on Cyclone Empire in Europe and Metal Blade Records in North America.
Fresh from the critically acclaimed debut album “All Hell Breaks Loose” in 2013, Black Star Riders is set to release the new studio album via Nuclear Blast, “The Killer Instinct”, on February 23, 2015. The album will be followed by a full UK and Eire co-headline tour with Europe.
In October 2014, the band gathered in Nashville, TN and entered the studio with heralded producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, The Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Mastodon) to start recording the follow up. The result is The Killer Instinct. “The Killer Instinct” will be released in different formats: CD, Limited 2 CDs Digibook, Limited Gatefold Black Vinyl and Limited Gatefold Clear Vinyl (available for mail orders only) and the band are pleased to release the album artwork (shown below).
Black Star Riders front man Ricky Warwick talks about the new artwork: "It’s a bit of a continuation from ‘All Hell Breaks Loose,’ people will see link, it’s very Rock N Roll. It’s going to look cool."
The band also announce the full track listings for the various album formats below:
1. The Killer Instinct
2. Bullet Blues
3. Finest Hour
5. Charlie I Gotta Go
7. Through The Motions

Finland's Nightwish announced that the first single from the forthcoming new album (as of yet untitled) will be entitled "Élan." The single will be released on February 13, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records and will be available as a maxi single on CD and vinyl formats. The song is the first original track to be released with ReVamp vocalist Floor Jansen.
The announcement reads:
"'Oh, while I live to be the ruler of life, Not a slave
To meet life as a powerful conqueror, and nothing exterior to me will ever take command of me.'
"- Walt Whitman
"Songwriter/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen commented: 'This beautiful quote from my hero Uncle Walt was the starting point for writing 'Élan'. The underlying theme of the song is nothing less than the meaning of life, which can be something different for all of us. It´s important to surrender yourself to the occasional 'free fall' and not to fear the path less travelled by. 'Élan' is a wonderful teaser for the full-length album, giving out a little taste, but revealing very little of the actual Journey of Grandeur to come…'"
The track list for the single is:
1. Élan (album version)
2. Élan (radio edit)
3. Élan (alternate version)
4. Sagan (non-album bonus track)

Drum-cam footage of Morbid Angel's Tim Yeung performing the song "Blood On My Hands" with his bandmates on November 23 at MegaClub in Katowice, Poland can be seen below.
Now based in Los Angeles, Yeung has performed and worked with such national acts as All That Remains, Nile, Vital Remeians and Decrepit Birth. His straddling of the extreme and mainstream is perhaps best reflected in his work with his band Divine Heresy, whose music features elements of extreme death metal as well as more mainstream genres.
