Red Moon Architect Releasing New Album

Originating from Finland’s gloomiest town, Kouvola, doom metal band Red Moon Architect has signed a deal with Playground Music and will release a follow-up to 2012 debut album “Concealed Silence.”

Red Moon Architect’s second album “Fall” will be released on March 6th, 2015. Watch the music video for a new song “Cradle” below, and you can also pre-order "Fall" at this location.

Red Moon Architect started in 2011 as a solo project of drummer-keyboard player Saku Moilanen, but has since evolved into a band of five members. The band's songs are slow and heavy in a way typical to doom metal, but beautiful melodies offer solace in the bleakness and Anni Viljanen’s angelic female vocals provide a contrast to Juuso Turkki’s low grunts. In “Fall,” sorrow is beautiful, anger is strength, and the surrounding emptiness a safe haven to escape to. More...

Solstafir Posts KEXP Radio Video

Footage has been posted online of Solstafir's KEXP radio session, which can be viewed below. The performance was shot in Seattle during the eclectic Icelandic rockers’ recent U.S. tour in December 2014.

The radio station enthusiastically comments: "When Solstafir plays for KEXP, the gods take notice. Two years ago, during KEXP’s broadcast at Iceland Airwaves, hurricane-level gales swept across Reykjavik as the hard rocking band brewed up their own storm inside Kex Hostel. Last month, on their first tour of the West Coast, heavy winds followed them to the KEXP studio to perform songs from their latest LP of epic grandeur, Ótta. Call it what you will – 'viking post-metal', 'alt-doom', 'death-prog' – but Solstafir channel power of mythic proportions in this live set."

GWAR Opens The GWARBar

With only 4 hours to spare, GWAR made good on Oderus Urungus' promise to open the GWARbar in 2014 when your lords and masters of the universe smashed down the doors to 217 W. Clay St. Richmond, Virginia, in the historic Jackson Ward arts district, on New Year's Eve 2014.

The ensuing party has yet to die down as GWAR fans, foodies and even neighborhood families revel in this new addition to the Virginia restaurant scene.

The GWARbar makes real the longtime fantasy of GWAR to open a restaurant and bar worthy of their name. The project was spurred by Jonathan Staples of James River Distillery and departed lead singer, Dave Brockie.

Along with restaurant partner Travis Croxton of Rappahannock, GWARbar's mission is to bring "intergalactic junk food" to citizens of Richmond, Virginia and visiting GWAR fans from around the universe. The restaurant's ambience balances beauty and brutality in the band's trademark style, brought to life with the design of Barry Griffin at Griffin Customs. More...

Warhorse Album To See Re-Issue

In a time where doom is flourishing in all directions and manners, Southern Lord is exhuming the sole full-length from Massachusetts' Warhorse. The label had this to say:

"Long out of print, rabidly sought after, and unconditionally vital in foreshadowing the plethora of current acts who partake in longform, recklessly downtuned sound voyages, 2001's 'As Heaven Turns To Ash' will be reissued on double LP and digital formats on February 24th, 2015 combined with the final 7" EP, 'I Am Dying.'

"Formed in 1996 and lasting the best part of a decade, Warhorse wallows deep down, grooving at the kind of frequency usually associated with imminent natural disaster. But in addition to intricate delivery, Warhorse possesses an experimental, verging on psychedelic streak which gave rise to gritty and memorable riffs, and saw the band sharing stages with the iconic likes of Electic Wizard, Khanate, Acid King, High On Fire and Unearthy Trance.

"'As Heaven Turns To Ash' and 'I Am Dying' are sinister demonstrations of ultra-heavy riffs as a weapon, and with Southern Lord gearing up for their rerelease, doom fans worldwide will need to start saving pennies for the subwoofer damage they are sure to inflict." More...

Nexul Finishes Work On New Album

Today, Luciferian death metal trio Nexul announce the completion of debut album, "Paradigm of Chaos," set to be released later this year by Hells Headbangers.

Featuring members of Nyogthaeblisz and Hellvetron, Nexul released debut demo, "Nexulzifer," in 2013 through Hells Headbangers on both 7" vinyl and cassette tape. A statement from the band reads:

"From depths untold illuminated by Fosforos shining, a Paradigm of Chaos is revealed. Eleven Hexecrations symbolically offered as a litany to the spirit of Leviathan and the Mysteries of the Other Side, Nexul presents itself as a tightly coiled instrument harboring on the precipice of madness and disorder, an image of the eternal Paradox. Luciferian enlightenment gives way to Draconian retribution through extrapolation and anticipation of the sterile waters that were, that are, and that are yet to come. Pay heed to the Lord of the Bottomless Seas as the Sephiroth drown. INCIPIT CHAOS!"

Nexul is also slated to play Hells Headbangers' forthcoming Hells Headbash 2 label anniversary festival, set for September 2nd - 4th in Cleveland, Ohio. The band will join other such Hells Headbangers affiliated bands as Profanatica, Archgoat, Midnight, Black Witchery, Deceased, Cianide, Shitfucker, and more bands to be announced during the coming months. Gloson Releasing "Yearwalker" Album

Post-metal might be a very millennial creation, with peaks and valleys of creativity across an expansive spectrum, but fire still rumbles down below and newcomers can still offer new twists on an oft-tired subgenre.

Enter Sweden's Gloson and the "Yearwalker" debut, set for international release on March 23rd via Art of Propaganda and Catatonic State. Originally self-released digitally last year, the mini-album is now being released on vinyl LP to show the international metal scene how much that fire still rumbles down below. Art of Propaganda comments:

"At a taut yet spacious 32 minutes, 'Yearwalker' displays a young band with a veteran's grasp of sludgy, sometimes-sinister post-metal. The four songs comprising the record are mini-epics in themselves: often crushing right out of the gate, other times simmering with delicious tension, always with deft 'n' subtle shifts in dynamics, and all recorded in warm, molten analog. There's a certain autumnal melancholy to Gloson's ruminations here, guiding the listener across vistas of grey skies, leafless trees, and the waning light of the day. As both a debut and a work in itself, Gloson's 'Yearwalker' arrives fully formed and firmly confident."

The track listing is:

1. Årsgång
2. Sirens
3. The End/Aftermath
4. The Aftermath/Beginning More...
