Dhampyr Releasing New Album

Acephale Winter is pleased to announce the release of Dhampyr's "Oceanclots" on March 10th, 2015. Achepale Winter comments:

"To say the least, this full-length album is a surreal black metal masterpiece. With their newest offering, Dhampyr aimed to sanctify the unholy marriage of black metal and ambience. Successful in their endeavor, the spawn of this evil union is Oceanclots.

"From the tender age of 16, HL has led an ever rotating ensemble of beautifully damaged traveling companions on a seemingly endless journey into a hazy abyss where lo-fi, depressive black metal and druggy, psychedelic art rock make for strangely sensual bedmates.

"Beginning life as a ramshackle but haunting project full of tortured screams and doomy ambience, the music soon expanded outward into a buzzing, near-perfectly blissed-out blend of raw black metal, pulsating ambience, and classic indie shoegaze thrum.

"Now with that particular musical blend blowing up to almost mainstream levels of success for certain bands, the group has shifted directions again, this time digging even deeper into the bizarre corners of underground music, and coming up with a sound that at times could perhaps be described as a black metal take on Japanese rock weirdoes Acid Mothers Temple. Or it could just be the next logical evolutionary step in the development of one of the most surrealist bands of our time.

"Either way, the combination of black metal buzz, shoegaze warmth, delicate, finger picked acoustics, jazz-flecked drums, post-rock structures, and tripped out vocals serve as the canvas on which HL paints his most heartbreakingly personal work to date. A story of friends and family lost to overdose, suicide and mental illness, of memories that haunt the mind like ghosts, and of a future black and bleak when held up to the image of a Technicolor past." "Since their inception way back in 1988, Suffocation have been terrorizing stages across the globe for 25+ years with a backlog of explosively brutal cuts such as Pierced From Within, As Grace Descends, Thrones Of Blood, Infecting The Crypts, Breeding The Spawn and Effigy Of The Forgotten that violently bludgeon your senses while making you bang your head to the uber-groove with technical and precise guitar wizardry melded together with a bone crushing rhythm section and savagely fierce vocal assault, the band proves with every show why they are as well respected as they are. Uli Jon Roth Releasing "Scorpions Revisited"

UDR is set to release guitar legend Uli Jon Roth's brand new double album of 19 re-invented Scorpions tracks, entitled "Scorpions Revisited," on March 10th, 2015. Pre-orders for the album will be available soon. For over four decades, Uli Jon Roth has forged new frontiers in the world of guitar, both in terms of approach and style.

“The material for this double CD was recorded last year in the same hall in Hanover that we used for the Scorpions rehearsals 1973-1978,” explains Roth. “Together with an amazing bunch of very talented young musicians, I revisited my personal favourites from the early Scorpions period, some of which were written in that same hall. It was an emotional few days and I am very pleased with the results in more ways than one. The idea was to stay truthful to the original spirit of the music, while also putting a new slant on it whenever it felt like the right thing to do. I feel we really succeeded in this and I’m very excited about this project. It was a intense journey into the past and I think we really managed to bring the songs back to life with a vengeance.” More...

East Of The Wall Streaming Split Track

New Jersey's East Of The Wall will release a split 7" with Cryptodira next week, and today the band's track from the platter is playing below, thanks to Vice Magazine, as both acts gear-up for a pair of record release shows this weekend.

East Of The Wall's contribution to the split 7" with Cryptodira is a heavily-altered take on Nick Drake's classic folk song, "River Man." While the first few moments of the song may give the impression that the cover is faithful to the original, "River Man" quickly modulates itself into an entirely new creation.

This adaptation, recorded and mixed by East of the Wall bassist Chris Alfano, is the B-side to Cryptodira's "Speaking The Ocean," which was ironically tracked and mixed by Eric Rachel at Trax East, the man who handled mixing and drum engineering duties for the latest East of the Wall LP, "Redaction Artifacts." Sourvein Recording New Album

The long-running Cape Fear sludge saviors from Sourvein are currently holed-up at SSP Studio in Raleigh, North Carolina with Corrosion Of Conformity bassist/vocalist Mike Dean at the recording helm tracking forthcoming new full-length, "Aquatic Occult."

Slated for release later this year via Metal Blade Records, the long player will include a two-track collaboration between Sourvein mainman, Troy "T-Roy" Medlin, and guitarist "Stig" Miller of U.K. crust punk icons Amebix. Further details are to be revealed in the weeks to come.

Sourvein has existed through two decades of distortion, damage, and relentless doom with resin-coated carnage made of toxic riffs, grooves, and just the right amount of psychedelic appeal. In properly commemorating the release as well as chronicling twenty often-times tumultuous years as a band, Sourvein mainman Troy "T-Roy" Medlin, was recently interviewed by friend and fellow musician Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God, who penned the band's new biography. The text will serve as a thorough Sourvein introduction for the uninitiated.

"Finally, man. Finally," T-Roy relays in an excerpt from the text. "It's the record I wanted to make when I was in those rooming houses, but I couldn't. There was too much pain, so I got lost for bit, falling back into the party life and trying to numb myself with alcohol. But motherfuckers need to feel the pain. There is more to life than numbing yourself.

"I'm going to bring the truth. The lyrics are reality to me; I don't write about cars or chicks or fucking horror movies, I write about getting my nose fucking broken, all the stuff I saw growing up and now. But I want it to be positive, to let people know that there is a way out of bad times and tough situations. I'm living proof."

Deiphago Finishes Work On Album

Today, the black/death barbarians from Deiphago announce the completion of their fourth album, "Into the Eye of Satan."

Recorded this past December in The Thousand Caves Recording Studio in Queens, New York with the esteemed Colin Marston (Gorguts), Deiphago's "Into the Eye of Satan" will be released this Spring by Hells Headbangers.

Mastering has been handled by Marston, as well, and the cover artwork was created by death metal artist Axel Hermann (Sodom, Morgoth, Asphyx, Grave). A preview of the coming storm can be heard below.

Deiphago reports the following about the completion of Into the Eye of Satan: "Recording of the fourth album with Colin Marston has been completed, and we have the final mix/master on our hands. This is a powerful, massive record that will push the limits of black metal to new grounds!

"Colin has captured the essence of Deiphago and unleashed it in its fullest sonic potential! Into the Eye of Satan explores very angular and challenging song structures, with unorthodox guitar scales and arpeggios, without losing all the chaotic elements that only Deiphago can deliver! We continue to challenge the current black metal scene that has become lame and stagnant. Forward movement under chaos!" More...

Alpha Tiger Releases Music Video For New Track

German metal act Alpha Tiger released a music video for the new track "We Won't Take it Anymore." The song appears on the upcoming new release "iDentity," which is set for release via SPV/Steamhammer Records on January 14th (Scandinavia), January 16th (Germany), January 19th (EU) and January 20th (USA).

There are a number of significant features, which help to distinguish a good metal act from an outstanding one. Musical skills, strong songwriting qualities and a professional performance are some of the prerequisites which every band should have, but much more important is an individual style, an independent artistic signature, a band's own trademark. Alpha Tiger from Freiberg in Saxony have found their own DNA. Their latest album is not only called "iDentity," it also presents precisely that individual profile.

Guitarist Peter Langforth commented on the new video:

"Today we're gonna present you the official video clip for 'We Won't Take it Anymore.' We shot the clip inside an old, disused warehouse near our hometown Dresden. Every requisite we used in the clip and also all of the flags are related to the message of our new album. This video is very metaphorical and alternates between the levels of reality and a kind of a dreamworld, which has to be understood as a synonym for our inner struggle to free or minds. Nobody got the rights to dictate what we have to think or what we have to feel. Our thoughts are the only thing that never can be taken away from us!" More...

Interview

Hansi Kürsch Talks From "Beyond The Red Mirror"

The following interview with Blind Guardian vocalist Hansi Kürsch was a joint venture between MetalUnderground.com and Black Bird Productions. The guest interviewer is none other than Disforia/Judicator vocalist John Yelland, who worked with Kürsch (who appeared as a guest vocalist) on the Disforia track “The Dying Firmament” (from the band’s latest album “The Age of Ether” - see review here).

A lifelong fan of Blind Guardian, John approached me with the idea of interviewing Kürsch about the band’s upcoming new release “Beyond the Red Mirror” (see our review at this location), and knowing how interesting the interaction would be among musicians and friends, I quickly jumped at the idea. So please sit back, read and watch the interview (video appears at the end) with the legendary Hansi Kürsch presented by one of the best up and coming singers, John Yelland! - CROMCarl

On a chilly winter morning I had the pleasure of interviewing a legend, the master bard himself, mister Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian. I had worked with Hansi before on a song of mine in Disforia, “The Dying Firmament”, and have stayed in touch with him since. Intensely curious about the growing hype around Blind Guardian’s upcoming album ‘Beyond the Red Mirror’, I was fascinated to learn details behind the album’s story, concept, and creation. The interview which follows shines light on the aforementioned subjects, as well as everything from promotion, music videos, and the orchestral project, to beer and The Hobbit movies. Please, enjoy :-) More...

Ex-Chimaira Drummer Joins Devildriver

Ex-Chimaira drummer Austin D'Amond has joined California-based Devildriver as the replacement for the recently departed John Boecklin.

States D'Amond: "Thanks, everyone, for all the support through my career. Without you all, I would've never made it this far. I promise to give you all one hell of a performance! Keep shredding, peeps!!! Dreams do come true."

John Boecklin and guitarist Jeff Kendrick exited Devildriver last year. Frontman Dez Fafara stated at the time: "Nothing dramatic, there were no drag-down fights. was just time to move on. As I have said previously, Devildriver is on hiatus while I rejoin Coal Chamber for a new record release and tour. Devildriver will be back, make no mistake of that, in 2016 with a new record which we are already writing, tours around the world and the massive pits you have all gotten used to. All in Devildriver wish John and Jeff the best."

Drummer John Boecklin and guitarist Jeff Kendrick played their last show with Devildriver as part of Knotfest 2014 in Devore, California.

"We NEVER left. Despite adversities like personnel changes, the core of this band today has been together over 10 years now. It's a brotherhood, not a job.

"We are completely grateful for everything we've been allowed to accomplish. None of that would be possible without the extensive support from you, our friends and fans that keep us going! Eight full length albums with a ninth on the way in a few months is a pretty good run in 20 years, and we have no plans on slowing down! Cheers to everyone!!"

Jungle Rot's latest studio full-length album was the 2013 released "Terror Regime" (reviewed here). More...
