Zex Releases "Wanderlust" Video

Ottawa punk quartet Zex just added another official video to the band's growing collection of visual accompaniments from debut LP, "Fight For Yourself," releasing a new clip for the track "Wanderlust." Check it out below, thanks to Decibel Magazine.

Channeling traditional heavy metal crunch and leads into their classic punk rock approach, Zex's "Fight For Yourself" drops ten insatiably infectious and fully unruly anthems, the album recorded at Meatlocker Studio with Paul Yogi Granger in Ottawa and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland.

Directed by bassist Gab Sex, the "Wanderlust" video takes fans on the road with Zex, with live footage, mishaps and general bedlam with friends and fans abroad, culled from an August 2014 U.S. tour. More...

Wells Valley Signs With Bleak Recordings

Bleak Recordings is extremely proud to welcome Portuguese post-metal/sludge trio Wells Valley into the label's roster. Bleak Recordings comments:

"Featuring guitarist/vocalist Filipe Correia (Concealment), bassist Pedro Lopes and drummer Pedro Mau (Kneel), the group formed in late 2011 and recently completed the recordings of debut album 'Matter as Regent,' which will be released on February 7th, the day the band will play live for the first time ever at Burning Live Fest in Lisbon.

"Meanwhile, the band recently released a music video for the song 'Star Over a Wheel.' The video was shot by André Godinho for StopWorking&GoOutside and you can view it below.

"The forty minutes long, 6-track album is an incredibly unpredictable and evocative release, blending the monolithic heaviness of sludge/doom with the intricacies and atmosphere of dark post-metal. The trio have crafted an organic, intriguing and crushingly heavy sound that falls somewhere between the suffocating atmospherics of Neurosis and Cult of Luna and the complexities of Voivod and Ved Buens Ende.

"Co-released by Raging Planet and Chaosphere Records, 'Matter as Regent' is a fascinating release that sets Wells Valley as one of the most promising and innovate bands emerging from Portugal in the last couple of years." More...

Death Engine Streaming "Cure"

Following the release of abrasive debut EP "Amen," Death Engine made a brutal entrance in 2013 with a couple of European tours – a string of infernal outbreaks that have little in common with your average live show.

The now four-piece from Lorient, France spent most of 2014 working on debut album "Mud," which was once again recorded by Amaury Sauvé at La Senelle and mastered by Sylvain Biguet. "Mud" will drop on March 2nd, 2015.

Death Engine's sound remains evasive – oscillating between dark, desperate noise rock and metallic downpours of petrifying violence, bleak shoegazing guitar work and gigantic industrial dirges, cathartic climaxes and merciless tribal-ritual rhythms that could last forever.

The "Cure" track can be heard below, and the full "Mud" track listing is as follows:

1. Medusa
2. Organs
3. Cure
4. Zero
5. Still
6. Entertain

Freedomination Releases New EP

Freedomination's new EP "The Stand" is out now, and can be heard below or picked up over at Bandcamp here. The following press release was also issued:

"With Finland’s native scene awash with bands exemplifying modern plasticity or retro-worship, Freedomination retaliate against trends with honest, thrashing heavy metal. 'The Stand' EP is a showcase of the band’s new direction and commitment, and their debut full-length is already composed and ready to be unleashed later in 2015.

"Freedomination came to life in 2008 under the vision of creative mastermind Timo Ahlström. Ripened by these studio and live experiences, Timo is now placing his focus firmly on his own brainchild, predicating a boundless future for this young metal quartet. Rounded out by Jukka Ahlström and Mikko Turunen, and with the recent addition Otto Luotonen (of the legendary thrash/crossover band Rytmihairio and a fistful of others) the result is the band’s most invigorated incarnation to date.

"Taking influences primarily from heavy/thrash giants of the 80’s and adding a fuller, more modern production, Freedomination offer a much-needed revitalization of pure metal to the Nordic underground. Not restricted to any stylistic limitations and possessing a keen sense of melody, the outcome is a varied and exhilarating journey – incorporating punk sentiments in the attitude, speed metal in the intensity, progressive heavy metal in the arrangements, and the all-too-elusive element of playfulness in the riffing and shredding. While some songs brashly gallop and others wistfully breach the territory of epicism, Freedomination’s compositions do as much storytelling as the lyrics, both being straight-forward and lacking in pretension. The vocal delivery is heavy yet melodic and versatile, occasionally spiced with old-school falsettos."

The track listing is:

01. The Stand
02. Unleash Hell
03. Tower of Power More...

Kill Ritual Seeking New Vocalist

After recruiting a new drummer late last year, SF Bay thrash and roll band Kill Ritual has parted ways with vocalist Josh Gibson.

The search is underway for a new vocalist, and with a new album already already written and in the final phase of recording, any killer vocalist can definitely put their stamp on the record. Kill Ritual comments:

"We’re looking for a traditional metal/hard rock style singer with a great writing style and melodic sense. We don’t care where you’re from as long as you rock! Please check us out thoroughly at our website or our other various sites and apply if interested with audio or video and a photo please.

"We have big plans for this year and look forward to hearing from some quality applicants and moving onto the next chapter of the band. Please contact us at promo@rockngrowl.com or killritualmetal@gmail.com."

Morgoth Releasing New Album

The deadly teutonic death metal force of Morgoth finally returns with a new studio album: "Ungod."

Due out March 30th in Europe and April 7th in North America via Century Media Records, "Ungod" will contain 11 tracks of dark and dismal death metal, combining the untamed ferocity of Morgoth's infamous EPs with the atmospheric density of the band's two legendary albums, "Cursed" and "Odium."

For a preview of this upcoming release, be sure to check out the new track "Black Enemy" below. Morgoth also had this to say:

"After 18 years we can finally present a first glimpse at our new full-length album, 'Ungod'! We started with the songwriting in January 2013 and finished the recording process by the end of December 2014. It was an awesome experience to go through the sometimes very complex and challenging process of writing and recording an album again.

"Our goal was to present some real Morgoth-style death metal, which closes the gap between 'Cursed' and 'Odium.' We hope that we have achieved this goal and our supporters and friends will like the final outcome.

"The idea behind the song 'Black Enemy' is that this evil force rests within all of us and all we can do is trying to keep that beast under control. The 'Black Enemy' represents the dark and destroying part inside of us and the lyrics deal with someone who is not able to control it anymore, committing a murder in the end." More...

Human Waste Re-Issuing Early Demos

It was in 1991 when the 1st demo by Spanish death metallers Human Waste was released through Drowned Productions (pre-Repulse/pre-Xtreem Music) - the 3rd title on the label. Human Waste arose like a whirlwind with brutal, twisted, and somewhat technical death metal creating a recognizable sound with weird riffing and complex structures.

Human Waste recorded 4 demos, one each year, between 1991 & 1994, but the 4th one, even if it was death metal, was already showing a deviation towards more progressive & experimental sounds.

Those three early demos are now being re-released via Xtreem Music: "The Miracle of Death" ('91), "Existential Nausea" ('92) & "Promo Tape '93" ('93) are being re-issued in one CD entitled "Harvest Remnants" with remastered sound, liner notes, band photos, and artwork by Canadian artist Derek Restivo.

"Harvest Remnants" is set for February 20th and in the meantime, you can listen to the opening track from '92 demo below. More...

Devathorn Announces "Vritra" Release

Today, W.T.C. Productions announces February 27th as the international release date for Devathorn's second album, "Vritra." The label issued this press release:

"Delving into the fathomless Qliphothic depths, 'Vritra' revives the powerful Draconian archetype of the Sulphur Dragon. Bearing the strong symbolism of the restless Adversary, Vritra embodies the fury of Leviathan, the liberating spirit of Prometheus, and the majesty of Sutekh the King. He is the dreaming Dragon Tiamat, Typhon the Destroyer, and Lucifer, the great Adversary. The aspects of 'Vritra' reflect into the forthcoming opus of Devathorn that bears his name, emanating 11 mantras of raging black metal madness.

"Devathorn's 'Vritra' represents the musical and lyrical evolution of the circle into a storming beast, the Mega-Therion that holds the qualities of chaos, knowledge, and death. As the firstborn of dragons, the mighty Asura Serpent trembles and whispers fiery verses that become powerful symbolizations, making the listening experience of the album resemble the fierce awakening of Kundalini, as the Draconian flame ascends to reach the Crown.

"Seeking universal truths unto the principles of chaos, the Gnostic origins of faith and the serpent's art of temptation, the listener enters the Qliphothic catacombs to witness the fiery King Sutekh roaring infernal chants within the cathedral of reptilian liberation. On a venomous path that becomes an Occam's razor, the dragon Vritra opens his sapphire eyes, galdering mystical mantras filled with words of utter madness, to lead unto a glorious Promethean descent as he encircles the world. Salve Ars Sinistra, Ars Gratia Draconis!" More...
