Feb. 04 - Gagarin 205 - Athens, GRE
A video clip of THE GATHERING performing the song "Waking Hours" at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, Holland on September 19, 2006 has been posted online at Google Video. The complete live show is still available for streaming at Fabchannel.com.
THE GATHERING recently returned to the road in Europe after they had to cancel the first month of their European "Homelands" tour back in April due to vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen suffering an obstinate bronchial and sinus infection.
Evoken Signs With I Hate Records
Lyndhurst, New Jersey-based doom/death metal act EVOKEN has inked a deal with Sweden's I Hate Records. The group's new album is tentatively scheduled for release next May-June. According to a press release, "EVOKEN are, together with THEROTHON, WINTER and DISEMBOWELMENT, the originators of the doom/deaths cene, a scene we have hithertho never ventured into. The reason is simple, we haven't found bands genuine enough to work with. With EVOKEN it's different, they are able to conjure truly nightmarish visions of abysmal depths in Lovecraftian fashion like no other band, without ever falling prey to contrived 'gothmospheric' sobbing or teen-angst-ridden nonsense."
Commenteed the band: "Both sides are very excited about working together; and the new material is being completed now. Expect no less then the greatest EVOKEN work yet!! We feel very strongly about this material and are looking forward to making it available to our fans a lot faster then the last four-year wait."
KillSwitch Engage's "My Curse" In MTV2 Rotation
MTV2 has officially added Grammy-nominated Killswitch Engage's new video "My Curse" to regular rotation. The song is the first single from the band's new album As Daylight Dies, out November 21st. Additionally, over 20 stations around the country are spinning "My Curse" including KUPD/Phoenix, WXDX/Pittsburgh, KRXQ/Sacramento, WCCC/Hartford and more. Alternative Press magazine already declared As Daylight Dies "an album of the year candidate," while the band will be featured on the cover of several publications including Revolver, Chord, Outburn and Bass Guitar magazines. As Daylight Dies is the follow up to 2004's Grammy-nominated album The End of Heartache, which is nearly certified Gold and 2005's Gold selling DVD (Set This) World Ablaze.
"My Curse," directed by Lex Halaby (Mudvayne, Hoobastank), premiered on MTV2's Headbangers Ball this past Saturday. Regular spins on the channel, outside of the show, will start on Monday, November 13th. A special "MTV2 Makes the Video" will air on the network on November 25th, the same day the band's Adam Dutkiewicz (guitar) and Howard Jones (vocals) will be interviewed on MTV2's Headbangers Ball.
Killswitch Engage will be embarking on a headlining tour of North America from November 9th through December 20th with All That Remains and Hatebreed splitting the direct support slot while Bury Your Dead and 2 Cents will open. FBTMOF Singer Seriously Injured By Bass Guitar
Fear Before The March Of Flames singer David Marion was injured during the group's San Diego show last Friday. Bandmate Adam Fisher has issued the following account of Marion's injury:
"During our second song david was struck in the face with mike's bass mid swing. Although that seems like something that is quite normal and not too rare the results were actually quite catastrophic. David was knocked out for longer than previous times this has happened. When he awoke he was spitting blood out in large amounts. We cleaned him up only to find that a hole had been ripped in his cheek. It basically looks as though he was pierced with a serrated knitting needle. In 100% honesty it was a pretty brutal sight. Somehow he managed to get up and finish the set but by the end the whole right side of his face was swolen to the point where he could barely open his right eye. He was taken to the hospital immediately. He was treated and received a catscan and was prescribed some pretty heavy antibiotics and heavy painkillers. It turns out because of the hole, air had gotten into his skin and puffed him out all the way from his collarbone up to above his eye socket. It's early now and david has just woken up but his exact quote was "I feel like 200 pounds of bird shit." It hurts for him to swallow and needless to say hes pretty bummed out. He is unsure of whether he will be able to play tonight. We as a band hate cancelling shows more than anything and david is the last to stand down because of pain, but if it hurts him bad enough to where he doesn't think he can do it his safety comes first. We'll try and keep you updated and we apologize in advance if we cannot play tonight. Again, we will only not play if it is 100% detrimental to david's health. Remember, it is a hole in his face that you could fit a small rodent through. It's not a scratch. Thank you for understanding and enjoy the rest of the bands!"
The band will reportedly continue on The Radio Rebellion Tour with Norma Jean and Between The Buried and Me, as planned. However, there will be vocal assistance from friends and fans for the next few weeks of the tour.
The Abominable Iron Sloth Calls It Quits
Bay Area metal act The Abominable Iron Sloth has officially broken up. Here's a statement from band member Justin Godfrey:
"Thanks to everyone for your support of the band, but it is no more. Our latest round of members have gone home and I think I've had enough. I've been doing this for 3 years now and I'm tired of trying to beg people to tour Europe with me, so I'm going to focus on my other forms of art that don't require commitment from other human beings. Any music I play in the future will most likely be with synthesizers and drum machines until I can figure out how to make robots. I'm going to start taking writing a little more seriously as well as making more metal sculptures under the Good Godfrey's House of Conception banner. Both of which will be posted on my personal page, so feel free to add me if you like. I do have one more album worth of sloth material in me, and I'd like to record it if possible, but I need to find a label willing to give me a few thousand bucks to record it first. I guess that's about it. Thanks to everyone who made this band possible, and maybe I'll see you around."

Zeppelin Say No Tenacious D's "Stairway To Heaven"
Cindy Pearlman of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that comedian Jack Black tried to use LED ZEPPELIN's most famous song title, "Stairway to Heaven", in his new movie "Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny". Permission was granted by the band — but after the scene was filmed, the ZEPPELIN members demanded to pull their song title from the gag.
The scene is in a mock Rock and Roll Hall of Fame set in California. The deal was: All rock groups depicted in this faked museum had to give permission to use their name, likeness, music and/or song titles. Black and his "D" partner Kyle Gass have a moment when they climb a huge staircase with a flashing neon sign "Stairway to Heaven."
"THE BEATLES said yes to having their image in the scene. Many groups said no problem," says "D" director Liam Lynch. "ZEPPELIN was a problem. They gave us permission and withdrew it after we filmed the scene with a huge 'Stairway to Heaven.' They said no and we had to re-shoot that part of the movie."
"We ended up calling the staircase 'Guitarway to Heaven,' " says Lynch. "And we were like f--- you. I don't really want to get into it more. We also had problems with the SEX PISTOLS."
For his part, Black isn't upset with the rock legends. "We liked 'Guitarway to Heaven.' It sounded a little dumber, which made me happy," says the comic rocker.
Papa Roach Comment On Touring w/ GNR
Papa Roach are in the final days of their opening slot on the Guns N' Roses tour, and according to frontman Jacoby Shaddix, it's been one hell of a ride.
"Every day our set time changes, depending on when Axl [Rose] wants to show up to the gig," he tells AOL Music. The band, he says, don't mind: "It's like, f*** it. It's an opportunity to play."
They've enjoyed the opportunity to promote their new album, 'The Paramour Sessions,' to the GN'R masses. "You've got some really, really young kids, like 15, all the way up to people in their fifties, so it's a very diverse audience," Shaddix says. "Really, it's just a rock n' roll crowd, and they want to rock. We're the underdogs on this show. We have to get up there and bring the raucous. We turn it out every night."
With four major-label efforts under their belts, the band has been surprising the arena crowds. "We've had [about] seven singles under our belt now, and we're bringing them out throughout the set," Shaddix says. "By the end of the set, we've got them in a hot frenzy."
Papa Roach have also picked up a few tips from Axl and company: "What I've learned is to show up on time," the frontman laughs.
Finntroll Finishing Work On New Album
According to Spinefarm Records, FINNTROLL is finishing work on their new, as-yet-untitled studio album. A March 2007 release has been set and it will feature the debut of new vocalist Mathias "Vreth" Lillmåns. The band have described the album as "disturbed but catchy as hell". A massive tour is due to follow the album release.
Denmark's Mighty Music Is Ressurected
Denmark’s biggest metal label, Mighty Music, has resurfaced. Founding members Bjarke Ahlstrand and Michael H. Andersen comment: ”We have spend the last couple of years building up Target Distribution, which today is Denmark’s leading music distribution company within alternative music. Having now established Target, we felt it was time to breathe some fresh life (death, actually) into our precious "child", Mighty Music. 1997 was the year we started up, and 2007 will be the year the empire strikes back! This time around we're ready with much bigger facilities and man power, namely that of Target, and we have no doubt Mighty Music will a serious player in the future metal world”
So far five releases are planned for the first half year of 2007:
February: SPECTRAL MORTUARY - From Hate Incarnated ("Brutal, tight and in your face death metal. Debut album recorded at The Berno Studio - THE HAUNTED, AMON AMARTH").
PANZERCHRIST - Bello ("The two sold out Panzerchrist albums on 1 CD – Soul Collector and Room Service. Including two exclusive bonus songs, liner notes etc.").
March/April: COMPOS MENTIS - Gehennesis ("Best melodic death metal band out of Denmark. This second album is recorded and mixed by Ziggy - ILLDISPOSED, MERCENARY, HATESPHERE - mixed by Tue Madsen").
RAUNCHY – Velvet Noise ("Re-release of the succesful debutalbum. New edition with exclusive bonus tracks, new cover artwork by Lars Christensen/Raunchy, liner notes etc.").
May/June: SLUDGE - tba ("Followup to killer album Yellow Acid Rain. Sludge includes Makro from SAMAEL and is the heaviest band from Switzerland alongside CELTIC FROST!")
The Hope Conspiracy Status Update and Tour Dates
The Hope Conspiracy has provided an update regarding upcoming plans, including West Coast and European tours. Here's a statement from the band:
"We haven't said anything in quite awhile... so here we are. Our record "Death Knows Your Name" came out in September... we are extremely proud of how it turned out, and the response has been positive - so hell, we are happy. A lot of people want to know "are you going to tour?," "are you playing my city?" etc. Yes, and maybe. I can't be sure how many of you remember when bands would tour A. for fun/ B. when the members had time in their LIVES...that is what we are doing. It is kind of an 'old school approach' to be being in a band... NOT touring all the time.
Don't bother asking if we are going to be "full time" or any of that crap... fact is this band is who we are, what could possibly be more "full time" than that?
On to shows... we are doing what we can with the time we have, so sorry we won't be playing ... We are hitting California and Sweden for the first time in three years... both of which we are very excited about. We are also getting the opportunity to do another BBC live session when we hit London - last time we covered a discharge song (which most people haven't heard) and it was awesome, so maybe this time we will do something fun again... anyway we are looking forward to all of this."

Christopher Walken To Play Ozzy Osbourne
Motley Crue lead singer Vince Neil told ABC News Radio in an exclusive interview that the 63-year-old Oscar-winning actor will make a cameo appearance as Osbourne in "The Dirt," a movie based on the band's controversial 2001 autobiography.
"How funny is that going to be," Neil told ABC's Al Mancini at the Opening of Vince Neil Ink, the singer's new tattoo parlor in Las Vegas.
Walken's press representatives did not immediately return a call to ABCNEWS.com for comment.
"The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band" set new limits in tell-all confessionals. The 448-page tome catalogues the drug and alcohol abuse, nasty infighting, and sex parties of Neil and band mates Tommy Lee, Mick Mars and Nikki Sixx.
The film, announced in April, is now in preproduction and is expected to be released in 2008 by Paramount and MTV. It's been billed as a true-life version of "This Is Spinal Tap."
Osbourne toured with Motley Crue and was friends with the band, and his antics, as recounted in the book, include snorting a line of live ants (while looking for a fix of cocaine) and taking LSD every day for a year "just to see what would happen."
Neil says that other stars are going to appear in the film as rock stars, including Val Kilmer as David Lee Roth. "We're doing big, giant cameos with those people," he says.
As for Neil and his Crue, they'll be played by unknowns.

As previously reported, If Hope Dies will be touring through December and then going on indefinite hiatus.

GNR Show Canceled Due To Poor Ticket Sales?
According to a Guns N' Roses management spokesperson the bands show in Portland, ME two nights ago on November 6th, was canceled due to "limitations imposed by local fire marshals" which "made it impossible for the band to perform their show to usual high standards that their fans deserve". A somewhat believable excuse until WGME-TV reported the show was canceled after only 3,000 of the 6,500 tickets were sold.
Axl was reportedly "very unhappy" that he could not perform.
Rock Star Supernova Taps Black Crowes Bassist
With regular bassist Jason Newsted sidelined for up to nine months with arm and shoulder injuries, Rock Star Supernova has tabbed former Black Crowes bassist Johnny Colt as a temporary replacement.
Colt will assume his new duties when the fledgling supergroup--which also features Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, in addition to frontman Lukas Rossi--kicks off its first tour with a two-night stand in Las Vegas beginning on New Year's Eve.
"Johnny's the guy," Lee said in a press release. "Gilby and I have known him for a long time. He's the kind of player that can plug in and immediately make his presence felt. You'll know what I mean when you see us live. We're ready to roll, folks."
Newsted, formerly of Metallica, recently suffered his injuries while trying to catch a 90-pound bass head that fell from atop his amplifier. The accident resulted in a torn anterior labrum in his left shoulder and a rotator cuff and bicep tear in the right. The combination of surgery and subsequent rehab could keep him out of the band's lineup for up to nine months.
"I'm freaking out, my heart was set on finally getting on the road with these guys but my main focus now is to build myself back to 100 percent," Newsted said in a press statement after the injury. "The stage is set for the band, I wish them the best of luck."
The group's self-titled debut album, which was recorded with producer Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, Bowling For Soup), is due in stores Nov. 21.
Rockstar Supernova kicks off an extensive US tour on New Year's Eve this year. Here are the tour dates: More...
Children of Bodom To Work On New Album In 2007
CHILDREN OF BODOM fan site Scythes of Bodom has posted the second part of its recent interview with COB guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
Scythes of Bodom: Can you give us a preview of what's happening next in the CHILDREN OF BODOM camp? I heard your plans for the next year include the writing of new songs in the first months of 2007 and release the album in fall.
Alexi: Yeah, if everything goes as planned, that's what's gonna happen. We're gonna continue touring until Christmas, so we go home right before Christmas and the boys wanna take a month off, which I need as well, you know? Everybody needs a fucking rest because it's been a long fucking tour. But during that vacation, I'm gonna start working at new riffs and stuff like that. So I think at the end of January, we start rehearsing and jamming with the new riffs, working on the new material and stuff like that. The plan is that we're supposed to hit the studio either in June or July, so that the album will come out some time in fall 2007 which would be exactly a two-year gap between "Are You Dead Yet?" and the next one.
Scythes of Bodom: Do you already have some song ideas ready, maybe a whole song or just a few riffs?
Alexi: Well, I have riffs and stuff like that, riffs and melodies but I try to keep them in my head because I can, you know? I know that it works for a lot of people but writing and touring at the same time just doesn't work for me, like right now. It's not my thing. I wanna concentrate on the whole touring thing because the enviroment is so... it just doesn't work for me as far as writing a new song, it's so hectic. I love playing live, I love touring, I love when everything is messed up, people are fucking crazy and drunk all the time. I mean, that's what we do and that's what it is supposed to be and I like it. You do your fucking job every single night which we do and always did. After that, it's time to go home and pick up your goddamn axe and hook it up with the 4-tracker and start writing, you know? That's pretty much it. But I got a lot of shit in my head, though and I even wrote something down when I was on vacation. I went up to Lapland, in the northern part of Finland and rented a cabin. I just needed to get away from everything and everybody. So I shut down my phone and went to the cabin. I went up there which was really good.
Scythes of Bodom: You said that you can write the best songs when you're angry, pissed off and in a bad mood. If we take a look at the happenings of CHILDREN OF BODOM in the year 2006, it doesn't look like there is much to be angry about...
Alexi: Oh, not the public... (laughs) I don't know, there's always... I mean I am a totally fucking different person from when I was 18, you know? I was angry at the world, I hated everybody, I didn't care about anything, I was suicidal, I was fucking depressed... I was a fucking bad human being. So obviously compared to that time, I'm a totally different person but still I... (pause) I just go through a lot of bad shit in my head all the time, though, I just do it and I can't help it. That's the way it is. In a way it's funny. Somebody very close to me told me this and I started thinking about it. I was like "Yeah, this is true..." So when it's time writing new songs, it's like you're always looking for trouble. Somehow I always get myself into some fucking shit that makes me either angry or depressed and I think that on some level, subconsciously I look for trouble to get a subject to write about or something like that. Just to get that feeling that everything is fucked up. I know it sounds kinda weird.
