Sickening Horror Sign To Neurotic Records

SICKENING HORROR, the Greek band featuring NILE drummer George Kollias, has signed a multi-album deal with Neurotic Records. The group's new album, entitled "When Landscapes Bled Backwards", was mixed and mastered by Neil Kernon (NEVERMORE, CANNIBAL CORPSE). An early spring 2007 release is expected.

Commented Neurotic Records' Ruud Lemmen: "This fairly new death metal band was brought to our attention when having a brief meeting with George Kollias on a European NILE tour in early 2006. Ever since we've heard the recorded material it seemed destined that SICKENING HORROR and Neurotic Records would join forces. We are therefore very delighted to be able to work with this band."

The band added: "We proudly announce that SICKENING HORROR became a part of the Neurotic Records family. Our debut album will soon be out on the shelves under the title 'When Landscapes Bled Backwards'. We are extremely happy about this cooperation since Neurotic Records is a label with top-notch bands and a very promising prospect for SICKENING HORROR's future. We would like to thank Ruud Lemmen at Neurotic Records for helping us spread the sickness and we can't wait to see you all on the road!" Songtitles set to appear on the album include 'The Perfect Disease', 'Imprisoned in Apocalypse' and 'Forsake My Bleeding'.

Watain Signs With Season of Mist

Swedish black metallers WATAIN have inked a deal with Season of Mist to issue their third full-length album in Europe. The tentative release date is set for March 2007. A European tour will follow.

After the release of the highly acclaimed "Casus Luciferi" album in 2003 and the tour with DISSECTION in 2004, WATAIN has been forging and wielding material that clearly reveals their true potential as craftsmen of lethal black metal magic. The recording of the album will take place at the infamous Necromorbus Studio (FUNERAL MIST, MALIGN, OFERMOD, etc.)

According to a press release, "Those who experienced WATAIN on stage can witness of a blood-soaked, rusty metallic machinery embodying every aspect of the traditional Satanic black metal cult, re-living and taking further the sinister legacy of VENOM, HELLHAMMER, and MAYHEM. But believe us when we say 'you have seen nothing yet!'"

Axl Rose Issues Statement Over Cancellation

Guns N' Roses cancelled a performance in Portland, Maine this week after being told by state officials that the band could not drink on stage.

Inspectors from the state fire marshal's office gave the band the no-drinking order when they came to look over the pyrotechnics planned for Monday's scheduled concert at the Cumberland County Civic Center, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Public Safety Department.

McCausland said the band had wanted to drink beer, wine and Jagermeister while performing. A couple of hours after being told that would violate state law, Guns N' Roses canceled its concert, he said.

After the cancellation, a band spokesperson blamed fire marshals for "making it impossible for the band to perform their show to the usual high standards that their fans deserve." The press release, however, did not give a specific reason for the pullout.

Band leader Axl Rose issued a statement through the Guns N' Roses Web site apologizing to fans in Maine.

"It was important for us to play there and it is a shame that what should have been a great night for all of us was not possible due to the actions of two people," said Rose, referring to the fire marshals.

"I agree with, and ultimately take responsibility for, the end decision not to jeopardize the safety of the fans, the crews, the bands and myself as a result of the methods of these particularly draconian authorities," Rose's statement said. "We hope to find another way to play for you in the future."

Jeff Austin, supervisor of liquor licensing and inspection for the state Department of Public Safety, said state law prohibits performers from drinking while on stage, and prohibits employees at establishments with liquor licenses from drinking on the job.

"It's been on the books for years," said Austin, adding that he talked to state inspectors Monday afternoon while they were at the civic center to read them the law.

Austin said he's issued citations for three or four administrative violations of the no-drinking law this year.

The Cumberland County Civic Center Web site said refunds for the Guns N' Roses concert would be issued at the point of purchase.

Hopesfall Recording New Album

Hopesfall have just entered Vudu Studios in Long Island, NY with producer Mike Watts (As Cities Burn, As Tall As Lions) to record a new album for Trustkill Records. The band revealed that they have been working on new material for close to a year and fans should expect a further progression in their sound. Guitarist Josh Brigham says:

"Our music has always been spacey and heavy, and we use those roots, combined with our love of grunge-era Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr., Hum, and Pixies, we add some bigger, heavier riffs. We all admire bands that can morph and change with each album, and that is what we try to do. Expect change and progression, in both song writing and overall style, on the new album."

Hopesfall recently debuted a new song, "Bird Flu," for the Trustkill Takeover II Compilation. The song will also appear on the forthcoming album, but will appear slightly altered as the band plans to spend six weeks in the studio working on the album.

Matt Heafy Talks Of Their Domestic Success

Having just wrapped up their North American headlining tour, Trivium frontman Matt Heafy checked in with his thoughts on the matter:

"Finally home in Chicago for a little break before we head to Finland this Friday. We have just a little time off before we get back at it.

"Well, I gotta say man, at first we were very nervous about doing our first headlining tour of North America, but holy SHIT was it incredible. We saw anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand motherfuckers rocking out a night. We woulda been happy with a few friends a night, but I guess lotsa people we're feelin like a TRIVIUM show was the right way to spend their nights and it showed and we thank for you for coming out and supporting The Crusade tour.

"The bands we brought out were so killer; great people, great music. We were really fortunate to have THE SWORD, PROTEST THE HERO, SEEMLESS, SANCTITY, and CELLADOR on our Crusade tour. We had a really good time and thanks a million to all the bands and crews for comin out and working so hard to make things click. You all really helped make our first U.S. headline run something special.

"As I said, we leave this Friday for Finland to join the mighty IRON MAIDEN on thier SOLD-OUT world tour for 'A Matter Of Life And Death'. We will hit Scandinavia, mainland Europe and the U.K. IRON MAIDEN are one of the world's best and most influential bands on the whole fucking planet and we know it will be a lot of fun and we are really looking forward to it.

"I'm pretty braindead and beat-up from our last three killer shows in Texas that closed the tour. What a way to end the tour (also from the early morning flight to Chicago), but I'm in great spirits cuz our Crusade tour rocked so hard and thank you all for making it possible. We in the TRIV... camp can't wait to see all you nutty motherfuckers on the next USA/Canada tour, so 'till then LEARN THE FUCKIN WORDS MOTHERFUCKERRRRRSSSS (lotsa ya already do)."
