Mnemic Release Teaser MP3 For New Album

A teaser track of "Meaningless," "In The Nothingness Black," "Psykorgasm," and "Pigfuck" - four songs from the new MNEMIC album, Passenger, which is due out on February 6th, 2007 - is available for download/streaming here.

Regarding the recording of the new album, MNEMIC guitarist Mircea shares:

"Warren Riker did an excellent job tracking drums for us, which meant the guitars HAD to sound great. The first couple of days we experimented with a bunch of different [amp] setups and heads - Krank, Diesel, ISP, and VHTs - not to mention a bunch of different string gauges because of our new and different tuning. We have been using ESP, Caparison, and Jackson guitars to make the sound more diverse in comparison to the last album, where we had just recorded everything on only one guitar."

Fresh off the Last Stab tour with labelmates SOILWORK, THREAT SIGNAL, and Darkest Hour, MNEMIC debuted their new lead singer, Guillaume Bideau, to mass fan approval, though the band suffered a small live setback when Bideau fractured his kneecap in a freak accident that required a hospital visit. No matter, as this provided MNEMIC's newest member with the opportunity to demonstrate his dedication to the rock 'n' roll lifestyle by performing the last three shows while sitting in a chair... with his knee wrapped in duct tape. You can check out photos from the tour and Passenger's recording session here.

Produced by Fear Factory's Christian Olde Wolbers at Track Record Studios (Kiss, Megadeth, Aerosmith) in Los Angeles, engineered by Warren Riker (Down, The Fugees), and mixed by fellow countryman Tue Madsen (Halford, The Haunted) at Antfarm Studios in Denmark, Passenger features artwork by Asterik Studios (Anthrax, Unearth) plus guest vocal appearances by Jeff Walker (Carcass, Brujeria) and Shane Embury (Napalm Death, Brujeria). MNEMIC have also completed a video for "Meaningless" with Revolver Film director Patric Ullaeus.

The final track listing for Passenger is as follows:

01. Humanaut
02. In The Nothingness Black
03. Meaningless
04. Psykorgasm
05. Pigfuck
06. In Control
07. Electric I'd Hypocrisy
08. Stuck Here
09. What's Left
10. Shape Of The Formless
11. The Eye On Your Back
12. Zero Synchronized (Japanese Bonus Track)

Ed Gein Clears Up Confusion On Slaughter Fest

Ed Gein has posted a message clarifying the confusion around Slaughter Fest and the fact that they are not playing at that festival:

"Ed Gein is NOT playing Slaughter Fest in Rochester, NY on November 24th."

"We were asked if we would like to play but did not confirm one way or the other that we would or wouldn’t because we didn’t know if we would be able to. I do not know why we are being advertised on this show. We did NOT agree to play it. And as of last night I found out that we will definitely NOT be able to play it due to prior engagements. I apologize for any confusion caused by the people posting false information."

"Again, ED GEIN DID NOT AGREE TO PLAY THIS SHOW, AND IS NOT PLAYING THIS SHOW. If it's not listed under our shows on our myspace page, then it’s bogus."

"In REAL show news, we actually WILL be playing Rochester on December 2nd at the Steel Music Hall with Psyopus. I am waiting for all the exact info and as soon as I have it it will be up on our page. – Aaron"

Aborted Set Release Date For New Album

Belgian group Aborted has confirmed details regarding their upcoming album. The new offering, title "Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture," has been scheduled for a February 20th via Century Media Records. Recorded at Denmark's Antfarm Studios with producer/engineer Tue Madsen (Himsa, The Haunted) and features guest vocal performances by Jeff Walker (ex-Carcass) and Jacob Bredahl (Hatesphere).

It's definitely a lot more extreme, with more solo mayhem than The Archaic Abattoir, while still retaining the groove and melodies we have been building on. We promise that you will not be disappointed."

Here's the "Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture" track listing:

01. The Chondrin Enigma
02. A Methodical Overture

Interview

Interview With Greg Haran Of Hostility

Novato, Califonia's HOSTILITY has been leveling everyone in their path this year with their debut album "Uncompromised" off The Penn/Voltaic Records. They are one of the few bands that seems to properly incorporate the best of thrash and death metal into their own brand of heavy music destruction and are looking to take their game now to a higher level for 2007. I've been lucky enough to see these guys live and to hang out with them and wanted to continue educating all of you on a real metal band that deserves the hype and killer national exposure this band is certainly now receiving. I was able to recently get some Q&A in with their lead vocalist, Greg Haran. More...

Defiance Guitarist Loses Battle With Cancer

Defiance guitarist Doug Harrington recently lost his battle with cancer. Here's the band's update on it:

"It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our dear friend, bandmate, and artist, Defiance guitarist Doug Harrington. At his request, and for the privacy of his family, we did not make his condition known, but Doug had been quietly battling cancer for much of this year, until Tuesday night when he finally succumbed to it. He went peacefully and in the presence of his wife and family. Born in 1966, he was 40 years old.

Doug was however able to participate in several of the writing and recording sessions for the new Defiance record, including one just 3 days before he passed. When we found out about Doug's condition, we had already been writing and rehearsing for the new album, and Doug continued to go to practices and participate in the songwriting and it was his wish that we finish the album without him. And although it will be extremely difficult, we will honor his request, and you can expect to see the record in stores this Spring.

Doug was an extremely talented musician, and an even more wonderful human being, and he will be sadly missed by all. Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to all of Doug's family and friends.

Please keep checking the websites for more information, comments and updates. Also, please feel free to leave comments at the guestbook at Defiance1.com.

Sincerely,
Defiance"

Izzy Talks About Touring With Guns N' Roses Again

Former Guns N' Roses member Izzy Stradlin's official web site, ChopAway.com, has a Q&A with the guitarist, where he's asked about any future plans he has with Axl Rose's new line-up. "I spent my summer vacation touring with Axl's new Guns N' Roses and had some fun playing live again," he said. "Amazing fans out there.... It's hard to believe at times. Fantastic! GNR tour: Axl and I connected via cell phone this year. I stopped by to see if he looked as old as he might be... Same age as myself, you know, and he looked great! It was nice to reconnect with an old friend/war buddy/fellow musician. I told him later I'd like to join the fun in some way and he said I was welcome to come and play something, so I did! Took me about three weeks to recover from the six weeks of touring!!!!"
