Defiance Guitarist Loses Battle With Cancer

Defiance guitarist Doug Harrington recently lost his battle with cancer. Here's the band's update on it:

"It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our dear friend, bandmate, and artist, Defiance guitarist Doug Harrington. At his request, and for the privacy of his family, we did not make his condition known, but Doug had been quietly battling cancer for much of this year, until Tuesday night when he finally succumbed to it. He went peacefully and in the presence of his wife and family. Born in 1966, he was 40 years old.

Doug was however able to participate in several of the writing and recording sessions for the new Defiance record, including one just 3 days before he passed. When we found out about Doug's condition, we had already been writing and rehearsing for the new album, and Doug continued to go to practices and participate in the songwriting and it was his wish that we finish the album without him. And although it will be extremely difficult, we will honor his request, and you can expect to see the record in stores this Spring.

Doug was an extremely talented musician, and an even more wonderful human being, and he will be sadly missed by all. Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to all of Doug's family and friends.

I can't say I've ever heard of this band, but it's never good to hear this kind of news. However, I admire the band's decision to continue work on the new album even in circumstances like these. It shows a great deal of dedication and respect.

I dont even know this band and have never heard of them, but one thing I do know is that too many lives are being taken away from our Metal music society. This dude could have been a better guitarist than any others we had heard before. But we'll never know. Because of cancer, this man's life was taken away and he'll never return to this Metal universe we all live in. R.I.P my man. Say hello to Dime and Anderson for me bro...

Although I had never really heard any music by Defiance, I still am in the most extreme sorrow to have to hear about this. I have heard nothing but absolutely awesome things about how great of a band Defiance is & I never really got around to be able to. But now I have a lot more respect for them.

And even though I did not know much about him, I will still miss as well with a very heavy heart.

My condolences go out to all of Doug's family, friends, & his bandmates Defiance.

Second, you guys are way off base with those last comments. Do you even read my posts or just make generalizations? Did I ever say I had a problem with people dying from disease? The answer is NO.
