Translation Loss To Release Zodiak Debut
Zodiak, featuring members of Rosetta, ex-Lickgoldensky, Balboa, and Javelina have finished recording their debut album, "Sermons." The effort is to be mastered in the coming weeks and was recorded over the course of the past three years by the band’s guitarist, Mick Mullin at Super 8 Studios (High on Fire, Total Fucking Destruction).
"Sermons" consists of eight tracks that were mostly created out of improvised jams, though according to the band a large portion of the material came out more structured sounding then originally planned. An early-2008 release via Translation Loss Records is expected, but in the meantime, you can preview the track "Excavate" from the band's Translation Loss debut.
The band also plans on performing a few select dates throughout the course of next year.

Cradle to Grave Post New Song Online
CRADLE TO GRAVE, the Vancouver, British Columbia-based band featuring ex-AGGRESSION guitarist Denis "Sasquatch" Barthe, has posted the track "Five Years of Fire" on the group's MySpace page. The song is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Texas Medicine", which was mixed and mastered by Devin Townsend (LAMB OF GOD, DARKEST HOUR, GWAR) and will be released in early 2008 on Year of the Sun Records.
Commented Barthe: "As we sit down and listen to our new CD, we can't believe how much Devin Townsend's contribution made a huge difference. Devin is an awesome dude. We all clicked right away in good old Canadian metal fashion and we lighted up the sky together. What a rush." More...

Crematorium Begin Work on New EP
Crematorium issue the following update on their myspace page:
"The question has arose 'what's next for Crematorium?'"
"Well, after our recent tour with PYREXIA, INFERNAEON and SONS OF AZRAEL we made the choice to work on a brand new EP which will feature 4-5 new songs, a few cover songs from bands that helped shape who we are as a band and possibly some live tracks of old songs. Our musical history has been paved with the full length then EP release formula. We feel it's the best way for us to progress as a band since we're not a band that likes to record every year. We like to expand our sound and then release a full length. EP's are like the middle of the road for us. More news on the EP as we make more progress."
"We're finally in touch with a reliable source for European tours! We've always wanted to tour Europe and we've heard the call from countless CREMATORIUM fans throughout the years. We always sat back and watched new bands get their chance without understanding why we could never find someone who could handle booking us but this problem has seemed to end. Sad that it's taken so long but better late then never."
"As for the US touring, it will happen again. We're just going to concentrate on the EP and the European tour for the time being. We want to head out through the US again, we love it out here but we really need to break new ground and start reaching new levels."
"We appreciate everyones support. All the fans, the bands, the agent, the labels (Prosthetic / Spare Change especially) the radio stations, the websites and anyone who's believed in us from day one. We will not let you down, we will not falter."
Darksun Begin Recording New Album
FC Metal Recordings issue the following update:
"DARKSUN are currently working on their new album, the follow-up to their critically acclaimed "The Dark Side" release."
"Guitar tracks are now being recorded, with newest member DAVID FIGUEIRAS handling all lead guitar duties, and David and TINO HEVIA laying down the rhythm guitar tracks."
"Vocalist Dani Gonzalez is producing/engineering the sessions. Dani is no longer playing guitar in the band, as he is solely concentrating his efforts on singing."
Maruta Post Another New Song Online

Six Feet Under Post 'Doomsday' Video Online
SIX FEET UNDER's video for the song "Doomsday" will make its "Headbangers Ball" debut this Saturday, November 10 on MTV2. The clip was shot in August and was directed by Mario D. Framingheddu, who also helmed the group's last video, "Ghosts of the Undead". According to the band, "The concept of the clip is pure fucking insanity on all levels. We were fortunate enough to work with Grady Stiles, a.k.a. Lobsterboy, who plays our main character. This has to be the creepiest clip we've ever filmed, from location, to storyline, to cast. It's totally fucked up! We are really proud of this vid and are really looking forward to the release."
"Doomsday" video credits:
* Director: Mario D. Framingheddu
* Director of Photography: Kyle Walling
* Producer: Rachel Murray
* Starring: Grady Stiles and Joe Paez
* PA's: Joe Mendez, Sarah Murray and Gian Framingheddu

The Dillinger Escape Plan Discuss Lineup Changes
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN recently spoke to the Artisan News Service about the departure of founding member Chris Pennie prior to the recording of the group's new album, "Ire Works".
Said vocalist Greg Puciato: "The biggest obstacle for getting our record done was the loss of one of our founding members, Chris Pennie. As far as personnel goes, even the people that were already in the band are better friends because of having gone through that chaotic time. And the two new guys, Gil and Jeff, our new guitar player, we couldn't ask for a better fit musically or personality-wise." More...

The Blood Brothers Call It A Day
The Blood Brothers have posted the following message:
“After 10 years of making music as THE BLOOD BROTHERS, we have made the collective decision that our time together has come to an end. We feel extremely fortunate to have spent such a deeply memorable and amazing part of our lives with each other. At this point, however, we feel it’s best that our futures move forward on separate paths. We’d like to express our sincerest thanks and gratitude to all the bands we’ve played with, individuals who have helped us make our records, and fans who have come to our shows and picked up our music throughout the years. Your friendship, support and love hold such a profoundly special place in each of our hearts. We hope that the memories you attach to our music are as fond as those you have given us. Thank you and take care, we’ll miss all of you.”
System Of A Down Drummer Talks Comic Store
With multi-platinum rock band SYSTEM OF A DOWN currently on hiatus and his SCARS ON BROADWAY project with SOAD's Daron Malakian in the early stages, drummer John Dolmayan has fulfilled his other passion of comic books and collectibles by launching Torpedo Comics, an exclusively Internet-based retail store. Torpedo Comics went live on November 1, and boasts some 15-million items — comic books, toys, graphic novels, trade paperbacks, superhero action figures and other comic book-related memorabilia, ranging in price from 99 cents to six figures.
"I've been collecting comics for well over twenty years and at a certain point I couldn't afford to buy more comics anymore, so I started selling comics, you know, to make money to buy new ones," Dolmayan told the Artisan News Service. "I noticed that I had a knack for it and I enjoyed it. There is something cool about setting up at a convention, having no guarantees and you make sales because you're personable and you have the right prices and the right product. It kind of manifested into a little bit larger than I thought it would, but at this point we have 15 million books, original art, huge Silver Surfer statue. You name it, we got it."
He added, "It's a labor of love for me, so the more time I spend on it the better I feel. It is really a lot of fun because you're dealing with comic books, toys, animation and it's all fun. I come in and I have a lot of great employees who work with me and it's a team effort. It isn't something that I dread, you know. I wake up happy to go to work. I guess I'm lucky because I have the same experience in music that I do with Torpedo Comics."
Regarding the long-term goals of the project, Dolmayan said, "We're planning on, when you have 15 million comics, inputting becomes an issue, you know. It'll probably take us another year or so to get everything that we have in stock represented online. We're starting the company November 1st with a soft opening of 8 thousand items. So, it'll progress to a hundred thousand items within a year or so and it's all for sale. You know, there are always going to be different things coming in, it's just the nature of the business. You buy stuff, you put it up for sale, somebody buys it and you feel like 'Oh I didn't want to sell that!' Then you move on to the next thing."
Rolling Stones Deny Led Zeppelin Rumours
NME.COM reports that THE ROLLING STONES members Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts have denied that they will make a special guest appearance at LED ZEPPELIN's reunion show.
LED ZEPPELIN is set to reunite at the O2 Arena in London on December 10.
The bill will include Pete Townshend, FOREIGNER and Paolo Nutini with Bill Wyman and THE RHYTHM KINGS.
It was originally suggested THE ROLLING STONES' frontman might be playing with Wyman, but this was denied early on.
However, new rumors have emerged this week that both Jagger and drummer Watts would be playing.
However, the band have released a new statement today (November 8), declaring there will be no link-up.
They explained: "Contrary to media speculation, Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts will not be participating in any way at the LED ZEPPELIN concert in December, but wish them well for a great gig."
Motley Crue Bassist Speaks On Drummer's Leaving
According to Digital Spy, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has spoken out about the group's split with drummer Tommy Lee.
Lee departed the band in September after legal disputes with the group.
Talking about the drummer, Sixx told The London Paper: "He's out of the band, that's just the way it is.
"Tommy Lee kept fucking around and I said, 'You know what dude, you've got to knock it off'. He said, 'I fucking quit.' I said, 'fine. I still love you but I don't have time for this'."
Tommy Lee has issued a statement on September 13, 2007 denying that he left MÖTLEY CRÜE, stating that he hopes he can work any outstanding issues with the other members of the group.
"I am a founding member of MÖTLEY CRÜE," he said. "Based on internal band issues aired publicly, my future with the band is uncertain. I have tried to meet with my bandmates repeatedly without success but have informed them that I'm not walking away from my band of 25 years. It troubles me that the current legal issues which were filed by the corporations against my personal manager are separating us and causing more dysfunction. I hope we can work this out amongst ourselves."
Dillinger Escape Plan Talk Lineup Changes
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN recently spoke to the Artisan News Service about the departure of founding member Chris Pennie prior to the recording of the group's new album, "Ire Works".
Said vocalist Greg Puciato: "The biggest obstacle for getting our record done was the loss of one of our founding members, Chris Pennie. As far as personnel goes, even the people that were already in the band are better friends because of having gone through that chaotic time. And the two new guys, Gil and Jeff, our new guitar player, we couldn't ask for a better fit musically or personality-wise."
On whether THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN holds it against COHEED AND CAMBRIA for "stealing" their drummer, bassist Liam Wilson said, "Well, we had some interband drama. There was talk of, 'OK, we're going to take a little bit of a hiatus,' (guitarist and founding member) Ben wanted to take some time off and just kind of heal from some injuries, and I think Chris just took advantage of that. We all knew that, 'OK, I'm going to go back to my jobs because we're not going to tour,' and Chris was like, 'I wanna play,' and they made him an offer. It was at the point where it became that we were the side project or that we were the second priority that things got kind of hairy. It was always an issue to try to get him to explain what the situation really was. I don't think that they were doing anything that was really illegal, so to speak. I think they were just looking out for their own interest. Chris gave an inch, and they took a foot."
New drummer Gil Sharone, had this to say about taking Pennie's place in the band: "It was overwhelming because just from a drummer's point of view, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN is a drummer's drummers band. It wasn't like I got hit up by this Top 40 band. It was pretty heavy to see, like, wow this is an opportunity and my band STOLEN BABIES was really supportive. That (the music)'s the thing that made this really easy to step into because there wasn't a few songs that I really liked and then a few that I was like, 'I don't really like that stuff.' Or the guys, a couple of guys that I liked and then a couple I didn't like. It was like everything was really cool. So it was...everything was pointing in that direction — do it, go for it. This was made for me."

Iced Earth Drummer Posts Tour Report
ICED EARTH drummer Brent Smedley has checked in with the sixth installment of his European tour diary. All of Brent's diary entries can be read at the official Iced Earth website.
"Hello once again for the 6th installment of the road rage report from The Worldwide Wicked Tour Chapter 1: Europe.
After the Scandanavian gigs we traveled back to Hamburg, Germany to play The Markthalle. This venue holds a very special and historic signifigance for the band as it was the very first place for Iced Earth to play in Europe. The band has played there on every tour with the shows always being amazing. This night was no different… the show was absolutely amazing. The band was in top form and the crowd was intense and enthusiastic for every note. There were some record company people and some old friends in attendance as well. All opinions were that the show was totally awesome. The Markthalle is located in a neat area of town, just a short walk from a massive indoor/outdoor train station which I was able to visit.
The next gig was the last show in Germany in the town of Stuttgart. The venue we played is called The Longhorn, a very peculiar place. The walls are adorned with massive paintings in the style of Michelangelo meets Heavy Metal. There is also a small internet cafe area upstairs in the backstage which was most appreciatted by myself and many other members of our touring party. This day held special signifigance for Iced Earth and our crew. Today (October 30, 2007) the bus driver Guido proposed to his girlfriend Ute (who is on tour as well and in training to be a bus driver herself) after soundcheck. He came on stage and asked her to be his wife over the microphone and in front of all of us and Ute’s mother and friend. She came to the stage and gladly accepted a rose and Guido’s hand and of course said YES. Afterwards a champagne toast was shared to celebrate this momentous occasion. We were most honored to be a part of this.
So onto the gig… the crowd was massive and very intot he show and the band played very well once again. Larry Grohman, the creator of the Larry amp, was also in attendance. He brought Jon a newly modified guitar head, as they are working on a Jon Schaffer signature model which will be available in the near future. The next day we traveled to Paris, France to play a show at The Elysee Montmarte. Happy Halloween! This is somewhat of a pain in the ass gig for the crew as it is a “drop and go” gig, which means when we arrive after the equipment is unloaded (as fast as possible) the bus must leave and not return until we are ready to depart. The traffic in Paris is horrible and that is the reason for this situation. This was a rather large venue and we were blessed/cursed with some of the smallest dressing rooms on the tour complete with a broken toilet and a shower which leaked through the wall (a first for the tour).
We did a photo shoot right before we hit the stage. The crowd here was absolutely phenomenal. This venue was in a very vibrant part of town with all kinds of shops and stores lining the roads. The next show was in Tilburg, Holland at a place simply called 013. This was an extremely nice venue with spacious dressing rooms, great catering, and even a free foosball table in the backstage area. This was definitely one of the best crowds on the tour so far. It was a massive hall and was packed to the back and on all the balconies. This show was another great one for the band.
I must say that the people in Holland are some of the nicest in Europe. We were able to visit with some of them after the show and were thankful for their hospitality. There were some nice statues and a gothic cathedral within walking distance of the club, I was very grateful for the chance to get some pictures of these things as well of some great shots of the crowd. The show was another absolutely amazing one with the crowd simply eating up every note and begging for more.
The next night we played the final show of the headlining portion of the tour in Antwerp, Belgium. It was another packed house, a great way to finish this portion of the tour. The band played exceptionally well. The crowd was amazing also. I dedicated my performance to my father (Jack Richard Smedley) who passed away on this day November 2 in the year 1975. It was like I could feel his presence watching over me during the show - several times I felt chills running down my spine. It was sad to part ways with the opening bands – Turisas and Annihalator and their crews as well. We had a couple of departures as well; Udo the physical therapist, stony the Merchandise guy, and Paul the light man. Best of luck to all of them.
So now it is off to the UK for 11 shows in support of Heaven and Hell and also with Lamb of God. Stay tuned for exciting news and updates from the road… the tour should proveto have a monumental finish. I am happy to say that Jon’s ribs have pretty much healed and the bronchitishe has been battling with seems tobe on the mend as well.

Exodus Vocalist Checks In
EXODUS vocalist Rob Dukes has issued the following update from the road:
"What a cool place, every show has been killer, the fans are fucking crazy... it's great.
We played some of the best shows ever down here, because of the crazy fans, they make it so goddamn fucking fun, I got so overwhelmed in the fun that I dove into the crowd... it was a fucking mistake... they ripped my shirt off, and would not let me back onto the stage, they were holding my legs, trying to pull my boots off, I had to kick and punch my way back onto the stage... it was fucking crazy... crazy, fucking crazy metalheads...
Looking forward to the rest of the shows!!!!!!"

Go check it out and I hope 'Hot Summer's Tragedy' finds it's way into your hearts as it did into mine. You can find the lyrics on IllNino.com." More...

"This is a day that we had hoped would never come. As of January 1st, 2008 Backstage will be no more. There are many things that have been leading up to this decision, both personal and business related. We have fought as hard as we can in every way to keep things going, but we have exhausted every resource we have.
Many of you have done everything within your means to help us and we will never forget this. You are those who we consider family and will not let something like this change that. We could not have done this without you...you know who you are!
We are planning on making December an insane month with tons of shows. We would like to make this final month one for the books, to be remembered for years to come.
We will be starting to notify bands, agents, managers etc. tomorrow. We have developed strong relationships with many bands, so who knows what shows will come together for December. Anyone who wants to play in December, hit us up ASAP and let us know!
Backstage has hosted bands such as Agnostic Front, Cold As Life, Goatwhore, High On Fire, Madball, Regurgitate, Unearth as well as other nationally known metal, hardcore, punk, and pop punk acts."
Full Details Of Iron Maiden's "Live After Death"
The following press release has been released:
Finally available on DVD for the first time, New Door Records/UMe are proud to announce the eagerly awaited release of the Double Disc DVD of Live After Death, the legendary recording of Maiden’s four night stand at Long Beach Arena, California, in 1984.
In the stores February 5th, 2008, the release will coincide with the start of the band’s Somewhere Back In Time World Tour on which they will recreate many of the aspects of this original and spectacular show.
Disc one contains the recording of this full 90 minute concert. Originally filmed on 35mm, the footage comes alive on DVD resulting in a visually stunning film that far outstrips the usual live video of the ‘80’s. The disc carries two sound options - the original concert audio specially mixed into 5.1 Surround Sound by Kevin Shirley, Maiden’s producer since 1999, plus the original stereo sound track by Martin Birch, the band’s producer from 1981 to 1993. Originally released on video in 1985, this has been largely unavailable for the past 20 years
Disc two has Part 2 of the History Of Iron Maiden, continuing on the Maiden story from The Early Days DVD, along with rare and unseen bonus footage in the form of Behind The Iron Curtain, Rock In Rio ’85, And ‘Ello Texas, all in all giving a total running time of well over three hours. Plus of course the photo galleries, relevant promo videos, artwork galleries, tour dates, tour program and other features which all combine to make Maiden DVDs a very special and utterly comprehensive treat for their fans.
Manager Rod Smallwood explained: “The original video of Live After Death has not been readily available for a long time so its good that we finally got around to this. lt was one of the first full concerts to be filmed after the advent of video and of course the live album, recorded on a different night to the video, has long been considered to be one of the seminal Metal live albums and has sold millions since. Fans have been begging us to do this DVD for some time now but we wanted to wait until we were able to recreate that whole tour to go with it and also to make it part of a series of DVDs that we are putting together around the band’s history. And of course we are making sure that now we have got to it we will be giving the fans everything we can find from that period!!”

Blood Freak Working On New Album
BLOOD FREAK have posted the following update:
“Hey, Neil here. 8 songs have been written so far for the next CD. Jamming with Shad and Andrew has been working out great. It’s cool to finally have a full line up with this band. The new stuff is very dark and extreme. A little less thrashy than Multiplex Massacre, more death metal and grindcore influences. We plan to record using a analog 16 track 1/2? reel to reel and make it very raw and ‘live’ sounding. Satariel Announce New Album Title
Swedish metallers SATARIEL have set "White Ink" as the title of their new full-length album. The CD, which will will likely feature ten new songs, "will continue in the sound of [the band's mini-CD] 'Chifra', which was released earlier this year, but probably will have a little more aggressivity and 'evil' added to it this time, as the lyrics pretty much demand that this time around," the band writes in a press release. "Also — a new songwriter is now found in SATARIEL — namely [guitarist] Simon Johansson (of MEMORY GARDEN) who replaces Mikael Granqvist. This will surely add a new aspect to the sound, as he is a great composer!"
"Chifra" was mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (IN FLAMES, MESSHUGGAH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) and Magnus Alakangas at Dug-Out Studios in Uppsala, Sweden and features artwork and layout by Pär Johansson. Lyrically, the CD is said to be "a sort of ending of the concept which was the basis" for SATARIEL's third album, "Hydra", according to a statement from the band.
Fear Factory Drummer Talks Decapitated Drummer
FEAR FACTORY drummer Raymond Herrera has issued the following statement regarding the passing of DECAPITATED drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka, who died at the age of 23 in a Russian hospital from injuries sustained in a recent road collision:
"I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Vitek and the rest of the DECAPITATED boys on a number of occasions. His drumming skills spoke volumes; he was an incredible talent and one can only guess as to what greatness was in store for him and his future endeavors.
"This is very saddening to hear and it must be exponentially worse in Poland since they really are the pride of their home country.
"My condolences go out to his band mates, his friends, loved ones, family and especially his brother Vogg."
DECAPITATED singer Covan (real name: Adrian Kowanek) was also hurt in the accident, which involved the band's tour bus and a truck carrying wood in Gomel, on the Russia/Belarus border. The frontman reportedly also sustained a head injury in the collision, which is believed to have been the fault of the band's driver (although this has not yet been officially confirmed). Covan has since been moved to a hospital in Kraków, Poland. Doctors describe his condition as stable and he is showing signs of improvement every day.
Ozzy Fan Tased And Arrested For Moshing
Travis Coleman of SiouxCityJournal.com reports that a teen was tased and arrested after allegedly fighting with officers during the OZZY OSBOURNE concert at Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa Sunday (November 4).
The 16-year-old Sioux City boy was allegedly trying to start a mosh pit near the end of the show when security called Sioux City police to help remove the boy, said Lt. Marti Reilly.
The three police officers tried to take hold of the boy, who was allegedly swinging his arms and being aggressive, Reilly said. After the officers told him to stop resisting and he refused, the boy was tased. One officer was slightly injured, Reilly said.
The boy was charged with misdemeanor counts of interference with official acts, failure to obey a police officer and assault on a police officer.

Sheriff Refuses To Give Ozzy Osbourne An Apology
As previously reported, Ozzy Osbourne recently expressed outrage following a police sting operation in Fargo, ND, that used his name to lure unsuspecting contest "winners" to a pre-show bash, where they were promptly arrested for outstanding warrants. Dave Kolpack of the Associated Press has issued a follow-up report, found below:
One Ozzy Osbourne fan thinks it's clever while another thinks he should sue. Either way, the Cass County sheriff who used Osbourne's concert as bait in a sting operation says he's not apologizing to the hard rock musician.
"If Mr. Osbourne has a desire and a need to speak to me, he can contact me at the Cass County sheriff's office," Sheriff Paul Laney said, in response to a statement from Osbourne demanding an apology. "I'm proud of my staff. We're not going to apologize for doing our jobs."
Laney's department sent out 500 letters to people with outstanding warrants, inviting them to a phony party at a local nightclub before Osbourne's concert with Rob Zombie last week at the Fargodome. The offer included two free tickets to the show.
More than 30 people showed up and were arrested. They were being sought on charges ranging from delinquent child support payments to traffic and drug fines.
Osbourne said in a statement that the sting tarnished his reputation by implying his concerts attract criminals. He could not be reached Wednesday for further comment.
Anthony James, 36, an Ozzy Osbourne fan from Fargo, said Osbourne should sue the city and the sheriff for using his name without permission.
"It's not right. It's not fair," James said. "It also implies that all of his fans are criminals and crooks. That's stereotyping us."
Fargo lawyer Michael Raum said North Dakota does not have "false light" laws that aim to protect against invasion of privacy, and it's unlikely that Osbourne has any legal recourse because he is a public figure.
"He would be facing an uphill climb," Raum said.
Troy Salonen, 39, who owns a guitar store in Fargo, is an Ozzy Osbourne fan and member of a local fan club for Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde. Salonen laughed at Osbourne's comment that the sting hurt his reputation.
"I think snorting ants and biting the heads off doves and bats has done more to damage his reputation than this sting," he said.
"I thought it was ingenious," Salonen said. "If somebody has broken the law they have warrants out for them, they should get picked up. It was clever and I think it was the right thing to do."
The sheriff's department was not specifically targeting the Osbourne concert, Laney said. "That show came up during the time we were dealing with the situation," he said.
Managers at Playmakers, the nightclub that hosted the sting, said they were assured the location would be kept quiet, and said they won't hold another one.
Rob Sobolik, executive director of the Fargodome, said he hoped the incident would not hurt efforts by the dome and its managing company, Global Spectrum, to attract concerts.
"I think it's important to point out that the Fargodome and Global Spectrum had nothing to do with this. We didn't support it. We didn't condone it," Sobolik said.
Sobolik said he was contacted by authorities about holding the phony party at the dome.
"We said, 'absolutely not,'" Sobolik said. "We didn't see any benefit by doing that."
Steven Mottinger, a Fargo public defender, said there may have been a better option for the sheriff's department.
"They knew where to send these people letters," Mottinger said. "If they were Cass County residents, don't you think they could just go out and pick them up?"
