We post metal news every day, throughout the day, covering thousands of metal bands including underground and unsigned bands. You are currently browsing the news archive, but you can also find news by band.
57 news articles posted on this day.
Instil Calls It Quits
The Dutch metal outfit Instil has broken up. Frontman René has issued the following:
"We look back to six wonderful years. We did about 350 shows in the last few years, played with our favourite bands, gained massive response on our records 'Fire Reflects In Ashes" and our latest MCD "Stalking Death" which gave us the opportunity to do TV-performances for example and an Iceland tour as the first Dutch band ever. It's time to look ahead. Everyone of us will go further with new bands. Time for something else. Thanks for your support."
Fucked Up To Release Holiday/Charity 7"
In honor of the season, Fucked Up has recorded a special festive single. The A-side features a brand new holiday themed song by Fucked Up. Clocking in at four minutes, this ripper is about the birth of our lord and savior: David Eliade and serves as a taste of what is to come on Fucked Up's forthcoming LP, "The Chemistry Of Common Life," that will see the light of day next year.
The B-side of the record boasts a very special Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa song which sees Fucked Up collaborating with:
James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem)
Cole (Black Lips)
Davey Havok (AFI)
Kevin Peterson (What's Your Rupture?)
Faris Rotter (The Horrors)
Mike Fellows (Rites Of Spring)
Matt Sweeney (Chavez/ Zwan)
Dave One (Chromeo)
Jacob Thiele (The Faint)
Morag and Ursula
Jay Reatard
Dan Romano (Attack In Black)
Trevor Keith (Face To Face)
Jason Green (Panthers/ Orchid)
Jerry A. (Poison Idea)
Shenae Grimes (Degrassi: The Next Generation)
Scott Vogel (Terror)
Nelly Furtado
This is not a joke. All of these people (willingly) participated in the recording of this song. This is probably the most bizarre collaboration that they have/ will ever do. The recording time for this record was generously donated by Chris Hegge of Audiolab Studios Toronto.
The record comes gift wrapped in special Fucked Up wrapping paper, graciously donated by Simone (sometime member of Fucked Up) of Punchclock and it will be limited (there is no way we are going to wrap too many of these).
All proceeds from the sale of this record will go directly to George Herman House, a transitional housing and life skills program that supports women who are living with mental health issues in Toronto.

Chthonic Prepare For Ensiferum Tour
The Taiwanese symphonic black metal band CHTHONIC kicks off the third and final leg of its European "UNlimited" tour Friday night (Nov. 30) in Hamburg, Germany. For the next two weeks, the group will support the Finnish "heroic folk metal" act ENSIFERUM.
CHTHONIC's European tour began earlier this month with a week's worth of UK dates with 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, with whom they shared the stage at this summer's Ozzfest. "Touring with 3 INCHES OF BLOOD made us miss the Ozzfest days," says CHTHONIC vocalist Freddy Lim. "We have so many good memories from Ozzfest, and we made so many friends there. I hope we can tour with such good bands again in the future."
The UK tour also included a stop at the inaugural Hard Rock Hell festival, where CHTHONIC performed alongside recent U.S. tour mates CRADLE OF FILTH as well as such legends as SAXON and TWISTED SISTER. "We were so excited when TWISTED SISTER took the stage," Lim admits. "Those old headbangers really encouraged us to keep rocking for many more decades!" More...
Abysmalia Announce New Album Title
Finnish progressive/thrash metal one-man-band ABYSMALIA — featuring Jouni Koskela (NOME, LIQUORWORKS, AON) — has issued the following update:
"I've got some information about the writing progress. So far, I've got five tunes entirely written and three another tunes going through the arranging process. It seems that the material is going to be a lot more progressive and diverse — both melodically and atmospherically — than on the debut EP. Of course there still is some wicked thrashy elements present all over the material, but judging from the tracks I've finished, the upcoming material is a lot less focused on one specific area and more variance is definitely present in almost every imaginable sense. However, this upcoming album will be entitled 'Portals to Psychotic Inertia' and the storyline is based on a certain conceptual idea. Some songtitles on the album will be 'The Mindscraping Multitude', 'Shipwrecked in the Sea of Delusions', 'Coma Recurring' and 'Peril'." More...
Winterborn Announce New Bassist
WINTERBORN, the self-proclaimed "coldest Finnish heavy metal band," has announced the addition of bassist Pasi Kauppinen (SILENT VOICES) to the group's ranks.
Commented WINTERBORN guitarist Pasi Vapola: "Kauppinen was a very natural choice for us because he knows the band, the music and all the guys so well and he is absolutely a great player and musician. We're very happy to have him in the band. We did the first album with him and now the second one so he knows the material pretty well and the chemistry between him and the rest of the band is just great. It's great to have a new persona in the band, it really freshes the air and makes it all intresting, the routine and all. And maybe we end up writing songs with Pasi for the next album. At least we have now one more guy in the band who writes music. But he didn't play anything on the record because the decision was made just after we got all the recordings done. So Janne and I played the basses on this next album." More...

Many valuable items were stolen (COMPUTERS, IPODS, CASH, PASSPORTS, RENT MONEY, ETC) and the loss has been devastating to the band. Rob Zombie Talks Halloween DVD
The Pulse of Radio reports: Rob Zombie sat down with Bloody-Disgusting.com for an update on all his current projects, including the upcoming DVD of his recent hit remake of "Halloween". Zombie said the package will contain his "unrated" longer cut of the movie, loads of deleted scenes, documentaries and other bonus features. One thing it will not include, however, is the "workprint" version of the movie that leaked online prior to its theatrical release. Zombie said, "I don't know what this bullshit workprint is. Something got online which I never saw...the version from the day that someone decided to steal the movie and put it online is one of the 300 versions we were cutting. So I don't know what that is, but the one on the unrated DVD is not that."
Zombie also confirmed that recent rumors about him directing a remake of Eighties horror film "C.H.U.D." were "100% false," and that his "adult" cartoon, "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto", will be completed in February when he finishes his current tour with OZZY OSBOURNE.
Speaking of Ozzy, Zombie was asked in a recent call with reporters if he'd ever consider casting his tourmate in one of his movies: "Casting Ozzy? No, no. Acting's not a joke for me, you know, and not everybody can act. I mean, there's a lot of people that are great personalities, but that doesn't mean they're actors, because acting's hard and it's really hard on the actors. And that's why usually musicians are terrible actors, 'cause they have their personality and persona, but it doesn't mean they can act."
Zombie has not announced what his next live-action feature will be, although he has said it will "not be a horror film."
The rocker-turned-director appears with Ozzy on Wednesday night (November 28) in Glendale, Arizona.
Krokus Back On Swiss Charts
The official web site of the veteran Swiss hard rock band KROKUS has been updated with the following message:
"As previously reported, the 'classic' [KROKUS] line-up minus Tommy Kiefer performed a playback medley for the incredibly popular six-part Swiss TV series 'Greatest Swiss Hits Of All Time' ['Die grössten Schweizer Hits']. The medley consisted of the songs 'Tokyo Nights', 'Bedside Radio' and 'Heatstrokes', all originally released on KROKUS' first album featuring 'the voice' Marc Storace. That album ('Metal Rendez-Vous') put KROKUS on the map internationally.
"During the Swiss TV show, the [KROKUS] musicians, much to their surprise, were presented by BMG (record label) with the 'diamond record award' for overall record sales in Switzerland during their tenure with the label (mainly in the '80s). This is an extremely rare award to be handed out. To put this into perspective, the 'diamond record award' equals receiving 40 'gold record awards' or 20 'platinum record awards' in comparison.
"Now 'Bedside Radio', originally released in November of 1979 as a single in Switzerland, is back in the 'Swiss Hitparade' ohart (equivalent to the U.S. Billboard chart). It shot from zero to #58 immediately in its first week after the broadcast.
"While the nostalgic fans got their three-minute and 45-second fix, the current line-up consisting of Marc Storace, Mandy Meyer, Dominique Favez, Tony Castell and Stefan Schwarzmann are working on new song material for their follow-up album to 'Hellraiser'. The 'Hellraiser Tour', in support of the current album, started in 2006 and is still going… and going… and going (you get the picture) with two more concerts in mid-December. When it's all said and done, the 'Hellraiser Tour' will be the most extensive European tour KROKUS ever has performed in their 30-plus-year band history. Another milestone for KROKUS!"
WKROKUS's November 18, 2007 performance on "Die grössten Schweizer Hits" can be viewed below.
KROKUS is one of the first confirmed bands for next year's Rocklahoma festival, which will be held July 11-13, 2008 at the Catch The Fever Festival Grounds, four miles north of Pryor, Oklahoma. KROKUS' participation in the event was announced on November 19 by the festival's organizers, Catch the Fever Music Festival, via KMOD radio in Tulsa. More...
Slash To Appear On Montel Williams Show
Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash will be a guest on tomorrow's (Thursday, November 29) episode of "The Montel Williams Show" (also known as "Montel"), a syndicated a talk show hosted by Montel Williams. Slash will share his story of battling back drug addiction to start a new successful band and become a happy family man.
Slash's co-author of his new autobiography, Anthony Bozza told BostonNow.com, "The greatest thing for me as a writer working on this book is that Slash never really gave it up in the press. He didn't talk about the stuff that went on behind the scenes with himself or with the band. To be honest, I don't think he ever really cared about that kind of stuff. But people always ask him about it and with the the 20th anniversary of 'Appetite for Destruction' this year, he just felt it was time to put all that stuff to bed and just focus on his new band, VELVET REVOLVER."

"We're not gonna stop touring on this record ('As Daylight Dies') until at least the end of April, and I know we're probably going to do a run of all the festivals in Europe in June and July. After that, I believe then we're gonna start talking about writing a new record."
Tool Reveal More DVD Details
TOOL will issue a DVD called "Vicarious" on December 18. According to a press release, the disc will contain the title video — which was for the first single from the band's 2006 album, "10,000 Days" — along with "a tour that takes you through the history of [TOOL guitarist] Adam Jones' visual effects work, and the process and people involved in the creation of the groundbreaking, all-CGI video 'Vicarious', as well as a tour of Alex Grey's CoSM." The audio commentary on the video was done by comedian David Cross.
TOOL singer Maynard James Keenan recently invited SuicideGirls.com for a look inside his vineyard near his home in Sedona, Arizona. The four-minute segment also featured interview footage with the normally reclusive frontman and clips from "Queen B", the first video from his side project PUSCIFER.
Keenan, an avid wine enthusiast, began his Caduceus Cellars in 2004 and unveiled his first three wines in the spring of 2006. He told The Pulse of Radio what the success of the project has meant to him. "It's confirmation that, you know, as an artist you can create," he said. "It doesn't really matter what forum, as long as you have enough focus and drive and you're a quick study. To be a decent musician or an actor, you have to have some kind of sense of the subtle, and I think making wine, that's absolutely crucial. You have to notice the nuances and be able to predict the changes and navigate things without panicking."
Keenan says he recently discovered that winemaking is in his blood. His great-grandparents and great uncle had vineyards in Northern Italy before World War II.
The debut album from PUSCIFER, "V Is For Vagina", came out last month and sold 27,000 copies in its first week of release. Keenan issued the disc through his own label and also sells merchandise under the PUSCIFER banner.

TESTAMENT
One more international act as well as four Serbian support bands will be announced soon.
TESTAMENT has set "The Formation of Damnation" as the title of its new album, tentatively due in early 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records.
The band is currently recording the effort with producer Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE) at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California.
TESTAMENT recently recruited Paul Bostaph (SLAYER, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN, SYSTEMATIC) to play the drums on new CD. The group was previously rehearsing and writing new material with British drummer Nick Barker (CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR), but Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and international work visa issues have prevented Barker from continuing to be involved in the project.
Bostaph, who was a member of TESTAMENT for a brief period starting around February 2004, had previously played several live dates with the group in 1992 and appeared on the band's 1993 live EP, "Return to the Apocalyptic City". He also toured with TESTAMENT in 2006.
TESTAMENT's current lineup is rounded out by Chuck Billy on vocals, Eric Peterson on rhythm guitar, Alex Skolnick on lead guitar and Greg Christian on bass.
Anthropia Seek New Label
French prog-metallers ANTHROPIA are looking for a new label for their upcoming album, which will be the successor to The Ereyn Chronicles Part One.
"We are very proud of what we accomplished with Magna Carta," the band say in a statement, "and really enjoyed to work with this prestigious label. We thanked them for what they did for the band, we will remain friends."
The new album, The Chain Reaction, will be self-produced and is at the present time recorded at the ArtMusic studio in Nice and at the personal Anthropia studio. The themes and atmosphere are really different from those of the first opus, but the songs and recordings already done promise the very best...
The band is already in touch with many labels, and is impatient and excited about a new collaboration. You are a serious and well-known label, and motivated to work with Anthropia? Don't hesitate to send us an e-mail here labels@anthropia.org."

Chimaira Guitarist Checks In
Guitarist Rob Arnold of Cleveland metallers CHIMAIRA recently took time out from his busy touring schedule with DIVINE HERESY, TERROR and KATAKLYSM to sit down with MetalSucks to discuss what fans can expect on the band's current tour, their newest album Resurrection, and their recently cancelled European trek.
An excerpt from the chat follows:
Q: You guys have actually spoken pretty openly about a lot of the problems you’ve had on the last couple of tours, and especially on the tour right after the self-titled album came out. Do you feel like you’ve worked past those problems now? Do you feel like the “resurrection” of Chimaira is continuing?
A: "Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. This particular break was due purely to exhaustion, whereas with the self-titled tour, there was just a lot of animosity with guys not getting along with Kevin and feeling betrayed by the label [Roadrunner], if you will, and things like that, so it was just a general sense of, just, “Fuck this.” Whereas this little break wasn’t like that at all, it was just about taking a little time off."
Q: This album is being really well received, it seems like. We saw you guys in New Jersey a few months ago on Sounds of the Underground, and the crowd had been dead all day, and then you guys came on and suddenly it was like - Vince got hit in the face within fifteen seconds, people were just going nuts.
A: "Sorry about that (laughs)."
Q: So do you feel still feel really enthusiastic about this record?
A: "Yeah. Y’know, I think people like it and stuff, and that’s cool. And really, y’know, you start out doing a lot of support tours like [Sounds of the Underground] to put in the ground work, and then you get to do a tour like this where you come and headline - we haven’t headlined since the self-titled record, y’know, ’cause we’ve been doing a lot of supporting tours, so you come out here and do a headlining tour to kind of gauge the success, to see if the work you’ve done supporting is gonna pay off or not, and whether you want to continue to headline, or go back to the drawing board and start supporting again or make a new record again and everything, so it’s kind of this month coming up that will really give us an indication of, y’know, if what we’ve done has been paying off."
Q: So something else we gotta ask you: the song 'Six'. We think that song’s a fuckin’ masterpiece, it’s just a monster. Why the hell is it called 'Six'?
A: "I can’t tell you that."
Q: C’mon, dude!
A: "It’s not that I don’t want to do tell you, but I have no idea. I have no idea. It’s the kind of thing where maybe I asked Mark [Hunter, Chimaira vocalist] once, like 'Six? What does that mean?' And he was just, like, [makes a dismissive farting noise], or something, I don’t know. I honestly don’t know."

36 Crazyfists Reveal New Album Title
Alaska based rockers 36 CRAZYFISTS are currently in the studio working on their Ferret Music debut, which they have titled The Tide And It’s Takers.

36 Crazyfists have completed writing and begUn the recording process after Thanksgiving. The band will be having guitarist and backing vocalist, Steve Holt, sitting in the producer’s chair. They have decided to work with Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, TESTAMENT, AS I LAY DYING) again on the mixing.
Lead singer Brock Lindow had this to say, “We could not be happier to be on Ferret Music, We are all big fans of the bands on the roster as well as the people who run the label. Our new record is now finished being written and we will start recording right after Thanksgiving. All That Remains Frontman Offers Update
Massachusetts' ALL THAT REMAINS are currently busy wrapping up the final shows on the bands current string of dates as direct support to As I Lay Dying with a show in Los Angeles tonight and the tour's final show in San Diego on Friday. In the meantime, frontman Phil Labonte has issued an in-depth update on all things personal and all things ALL THAT REMAINS.
"We are wrapping up the 'An Ocean Between Us' tour. All the bands have been awesome," Labonte says. "Through The Eyes Of The Dead, Haste The Day and As I Lay Dying are all great and cool guys. The shows have nearly all been sold out, and if not sold out, packed to the gills. We're a really lucky band. We have had the chance to tour with some of the biggest bands and play the most amazing shows in the past year-and-a-half: Ozzfest, shows with DragonForce, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Bullet For My Valentine, plus two AMAZING US headlining tours, our first headliner in Europe, Waken: Open Air, Mexico, Japan and Loudpark, and a huge co-headliner in Canada with Protest The Hero."
"Five years ago I would have never believed anyone who told me ATR would do all that in just a year and a half! That's just touring, not to mention all the awesome people I've met, all the cool and crazy shit I've seen, funny stories I've heard, shots of whiskey I've drank, miles I've gone, countries I've been in...All in just over a year."
"I'm home sick. It's not a bad thing. I'm not unhappy about it. But in about two weeks, I'll be in Massachusetts sitting in front of my TV playing Halo 3 and trying to figure out what to get my family for Christmas. That's gonna be nice. We've only been home 10 days since the beginning of September; that’s a lot of being gone. Lots can happen in 14 or so weeks: There have been a bunch of times I'd leave and come back and a new building is up in my area, or a restaurant closes and gets knocked down...It's weird. So, it'll be nice to be home for the holidays. We'll spend about two months at home, really get some time off, and write some new metal."
"We are gonna be announcing a tour in the next couple weeks. We'll be headlining in February all over the US. It's gonna be a really awesome package but I can't talk about it right now, so keep your eyes and ears open."
I guess lastly: Thank you to everyone who has made this past year-and-a-half amazing. Thank you to you guys who picked up 'The Fall Of Ideals,' those who picked up our DVD ['All That Remains Live'], those who came out to shows, picked up a shirt, bought a round, played Guitar Hero, kicked my ass in Halo, got smoked by me in Halo. Thanks to everyone who sings along, everyone who puts up the horns, everyone who puts up the lighters and the cell phones, everyone who gets on the floor and shows everyone down there what's up. You guys have made my life amazing. You guys have made everything that I ever wanted to do a reality for me. Thank you so much."
Continuing to support a series of releases - 2006's 'The Fall of Ideals,' and the recently released reissue of the band's debut, 'Behind Silence and Solitude,' as well as the band's first ever DVD, 'All That Remains Live' - ALL THAT REMAINS will return home briefly to continue writing material for a yet-untitled album due out through Prosthetic Records sometime in 2008 before hitting the road again in the spring. Details on that tour will be available shortly.

StarOfAsh Signs To Candlelight Records
Behind the name STAROFASH is musician and songwriter Heidi Solberg Tveitan, also known as Ihriel from the experimental metal act Peccatum. After several years of releases and tours in Europe and USA with Peccatum, she debuted as a solo artist in 2001 with the record “Iter.Viator” (Jester Records/VME). In the years following “Iter.Viator” she has been busy with the last Peccatum releases, the Hardingrock project and has, together with Vegard Tveitan, been running the production company Mnemosyne and Symphonique Studio. In addition to this she has actively worked with band tutoring and concert arranging for the youth in her local community.
The debut album "ITER.VIATOR" was described as a melancholic movement over strings, guitars, keyboards, drums and voices, resulting in a fine blend of esoteric rock and soundtracks. It pushed the boundaries of traditional genre categorization and instrument usage, while remaining true to a soulful pattern that is Heidi’s alone.
On her upcoming album, "THE THREAD" (Candlelight Records/Mnemosyne Productions), Heidi’s collaborators include the German musician and composer Markus Reuter and the Japanese cyber-punk writer Kenji Siratori. Musically this album explores new ground in instrumentation and structure, yet continues the cinematic and elegant atmosphere of previous recordings. Over constantly changing sonic sceneries, the compelling melody is still the leading thread from beginning to end.
You can check out a single song from StarOfAsh on their MySpace page.
Sebastian Bach Comments On New Album
Michael Christopher of DelcoTimes.com recently conducted an interview with former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
On the delay in getting his first "proper" collection of all-new solo material released:
"Good things take time; good things come to those to wait. I wasn't just going to put out some BS. I am trying to establish myself as a solo artist, because SKID ROW was so huge, and it's hard to do. The only way you can do it is with a great album."
On the grandiose album closer "Falling Into You", which carries the influence of Bach's stints in professional theater:
"I did four Broadway shows, and I am 100 percent bringing that vibe, theatricality and all the different kinds of sounds to the record. I enjoy taking what I learned from theater and bringing it into rock and roll."
On how he wants to be remembered:
"Ozzy Osbourne, when he was kicked out of BLACK SABBATH, he made 'Blizzard of Ozz', and I hope to God that this record is like my 'Blizzard of Ozz' where people go, 'Man, Bas can do it on his own.'"
On the cover of the AEROSMITH classic "Back in the Saddle", which features a guest appearance by Axl Rose:
"It was hard to mix that one because I laid down six tracks, and Axl laid down like, nine tracks, but then we had to put it together, and it was hard to pick who gets what line. I basically followed the lyrics, I mean, let's figure it out: 'I'm calling all the shots tonight/I'm like a loaded gun.' I'm like, 'That's Axl!' 'I'm loading up pistol?' That's Axl! Anything with guns; so we let the music decide who sings where."
On being a fixture of television shows from the sitcom "Gilmore Girls" to "Celebrity Rap Superstar":
"We live in a celebrity-obsessed culture, and I'm one of those dudes who is on TV all the time. I don't know how that happened really, but I've just been asked to do all of these outlandish things in the last seven years that have taken me into a different direction."
On his made-for-TV band DAMNOCRACY, which played its first and only gig during the final episode of the VH1 show "SuperGroup" in which fellow bandmember Ted Nugent went off afterward on-camera about Bach being unprofessional for throwing T-shirts out to the crowd, taking away from his own guitar solo:
"I was watching it like, finally, a cool episode. I had a ton of people in my house and we were all drinking, watching it, and (Nugent) says that; I almost whipped a bottle through my TV set."
On "cooling" on his fanboy devotion to the outspoken Ted Nugent:
"I will always love Ted Nugent, and he will always be one of my heroes, but it was that one thing that was really enough's enough for me. It's like, you can call me whatever you want, but you don't call a guy who starred in four Broadway musicals 'an unprofessional.' You don't call a guy who's been on a sitcom for five seasons 'an unprofessional.' That was the thing that was really below the belt, and that was it for me. It was like; you're taking the whole thing to far dude. Let's ask the kid who got the free T-shirt if it was unprofessional of me to do that. What is bad about that? I just don't get it."
On being on television:
"I don't want anybody I've worked with in TV to take this the wrong way, but I'm gonna be a hundred percent honest: I don't give a (expletive) about TV — it doesn't mean anything to me. Television is really a meaningless art form. I think that the best thing I did on TV was the 'Gilmore Girls', other than that ... when you put on 'Angel Down', that CD to me, will be listened to many years after I'm dead and gone."
"There is no art form like music. When you hear a song that you loved as a kid and you hear it now, it makes you feel like a kid. Like when I watch 'Jaws' now, I don't feel like I did in 1975. When I listen to 'Summer Breeze' by SEALS AND CROFTS, I can shut my eyes and it's 1975."
On flirting with the opportunity to take over the lead vocals for one of his favorite acts as a kid in VAN HALEN shortly after Sammy Hagar departed:
"There was definitely a meeting I had in 1996 with (Bach manager) Doc McGhee where it was told to me that (then-VH manager) Ray Daniels and VAN HALEN were inquiring about me to be the lead singer — but that's as far as it went. There was this whole thing about Eddie and Alex couldn't have a lead singer in the band who smoked pot. And I go, 'That's pretty funny, because you know where I learned to smoke pot? At a VAN HALEN concert!'"
Quiet Riot Singer Dead Six Days Before Discovery
ABC's Las Vegas affiliate KTNV-TV reports: Police say after a distressed call from family members, QUIET RIOT lead singer Kevin DuBrow's next door neighbor and friend kicked down the door to find the 52-year-old dead.
Police say DuBrow had been dead for about six days before his body was discovered. Lori Lee Samson, DuBrow's fiancée, was the last person to see him alive. She says when days passed, she new something was wrong.
Among the collection of memories, Lori Samson will forever save DuBrow's last words. "At 2:40 am Monday he texted me I love you so much," Samson says.
His death has sent shockwaves to fans and family.
Samson says she will cherish the last moments spent with him and her son. She never knew the man she met years ago was a legendary rock star. Still rocking into his 50s, they celebrated Dubrow's birthday just two weeks ago. Samson says Dubrow performed for charities, growing more humble with age.
At 52 years old, QUIET RIOT's vocalist finally found the one. The couple was supposed to appear on A&E for a roast of Gene Simmons.
The coroner's office is now investigating the exact cause of death.
Samson says something fans never knew is that alcohol was not allowed backstage at their concerts. This was in support of band members' struggle with sobriety.
Ghoulunatics Calling It A Day
Bassist Gary Lyons of the Montreal deathcore act GHOULUNATICS has issued the following update:
"It is with great regret and sadness that I officially inform you that the GHOULUNATICS adventure is coming to an end.
"Our singer, Patrick Mireault (aka Evil S. Presley), recently told us that he didn't have the motivation nor determination to carry on with the band. As you might imagine, this was a great shock to me and the rest of the band.
"After discussing the issue at length with each other we came to the conclusion that we just couldn't carry on without one of the three founding members. Pat helped create the GHOULUNATICS' unique identity and sound though the years and he's a major part of this band as singer and frontman.
"GHOULUNATICS will therefore cross over to the land of the dead after nearly 14 years of existence during which we released five studio albums, one live album and a DVD (the first from a Quebec metal band).
"We will be performing a couple of farewell shows before calling it a day so this will allow fans to come and see us play live for one last time. We hope that all our fans and friends will be joining us for one last time!
"I'd like to take this opportunity to give a final shout out to all promoters and friends (bands) from the province of Quebec who would be interested in booking such a show in their region. Please contact me at booking@ghoulunatics.com right now.
"Only one or two dates a month will be available from February to the summer of 2008.
"A 'best-of' CD consisting of our best songs from all 5 studio albums and possibly some other goodies will be our last testament. We hope to include pictures from all different stages of the band as well as our videos, etc. This will be a limited release of 500 copies only. Each copy will be numbered.
"We hope to see you guys in Montreal at our 3rd and last Ghouls X-Mass Party [on December 8]. This might be our last hometown show…"
Helloween, Gamma Ray Tour Update

The bands' performances yesterday in Rome will be followed by today’s appearance in Milan and tomorrow’s tour stop in Switzerland. On Saturday, December 1st both bands will reach Germany for the first time and will play two concerts in Lichtenfels and Bremen. Meanwhile the concert in Paris on January 6th 2008 has officially sold out and a second show has been added. An additional date to the fast selling Spanish leg of the tour has also been added. For their many faithful fans, there is also a limited first edition (40,000 units in a digipak with an embossed and stamped slipcase to be released in Europe, and 10,000 units in a jewel case in the U.S.) with a bonus CD featuring two extra tracks, the video for the first single "As Long As I Fall", and a "making-of" of the video, including interview sequences.
Friends Puzzle Over Quiet Riot Singers Death
Greg Burk of the Los Angeles Times reports: The life of QUIET RIOT singer Kevin DuBrow, who died at age 52 over the weekend in Las Vegas, had not been on a completely even keel after he'd broken up this month with his girlfriend of more than seven years, Las Vegas television personality and KXPT-FM radio DJ Lark Williams, according to friends saddened Monday by the news of his death.
Nevertheless, "his mood the last couple of months was stable," said former DEEP PURPLE bassist and singer Glenn Hughes, who said he had communicated with DuBrow several times a week since they had become reacquainted after a 2001 performance by Hughes in Las Vegas. "He did not sound agitated or paranoid or anything at all — he was just normal Kevin," Hughes said. He added that QUIET RIOT's recent tour had gone well.
Williams said she didn't think DuBrow had any health problems. "He was as strong as an ox, that boy. He ate well, took a lot of vitamins. He worked out, and of course when he performed it was quite a workout," she said Tuesday from Las Vegas. "He never looked better." She said she had last communicated with him about a week ago by text message, with no indications that anything was awry.
As of Tuesday, the Las Vegas police were not investigating the death as a suspicious one. Samantha Charles, the communications officer with the Clark County coroner's office, said that an autopsy was performed Monday on DuBrow and that official determination of the cause of death would depend on results of toxicology tests, which could take six to 12 weeks.

Firewind Hard At Work On New Album
FIREWIND's mastermind/guitarist Gus G. has issued the following update:
"Well, most of the recordings for the new album are done by now! We've been locked at Sweden's Studio Fredman for about a month now and I'm super-excited with the way things are shaping up! Killer sounds on the drums, guitars and bass. We've recorded 12 original songs and a few covers which will be revealed in time.
"I also want to set something straight since some people seem to be confused: Apollo is still in the band! Yes, he is singing on the new album (currently finishing up his vocal tracks — which in my opinion are his best performances ever!) and yes, he is going back on the road with us in 2008.
"Now onto something different and very special: Since we have gotten such a great response on our world tour 2006-2007 and have received so much love from our fans, we would like to give back by doing something special for them: We will play a one and only exclusive show in our hometown (Thessaloniki, Greece) on Saturday January 12th, 2008 at Principal Club Theatre, where we will perform our full upcoming brand new album LIVE! So consider this as a very special event since we don't plan on doing this again. Of course we'll play an extra set of other older material in addition to the new songs. What makes this even cooler is that we'll record and film this event for future DVD use, so we hope to see all our metal brothers and sisters at this special event!
"For those of you that don't live in Greece and plan to travel to see this show, please email us at r_evolution13@yahoo.gr and let us know of your participation. We'll get back to you and provide info on how to get to the venue, hotels, etc."
Songtitles set to appear on the new FIREWIND CD include "Remembered", "Life Foreclosed", "The Silent Code", "Mercenary Man", "My Loneliness", "Head Up High"."
FIREWIND will team up with KAMELOT and VISIONS OF ATLANTIS for a European tour in April/May 2008.
FIREWIND's 2002 debut album, "Between Heaven & Hell", was re-released in Japan on October 10 via King Records. The reissue includes new artwork, liner notes from guitarist Gus G. and producer David T. Chastain as well as two bonus tracks. Originally released with different cover artwork in Japan, this time the album includes the European cover which was created by legendary artist Kristian Wahlin (KING DIAMOND, DISSECTION, AT THE GATES)
FIREWIND's latest single, "Breaking the Silence" (featuring Tara Teresa), entered the national single chart in Greece at position No. 19 and moved up to No. 16 in its second week. The video for the single's title cut was directed by Patric Ullaeus (IN FLAMES, DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL).

Visions Of Atlantis Lose Singer And Guitarist
Austrian symphonic metallers VISIONS OF ATLANTIS have issued the following:
"Melissa (Ferlaak) and Wolfgang leave Visions Of Atlantis...
Yes, you read right, Melissa, as well as her boyfriend Wolfgang ("Wops" Koch) are not in Visions Of Atlantis anymore. We were as much shocked about that as you must be, but it is the sad truth. Some people just don't know what the word commitment means...
We (the remaining rest of VoA) want to appologize to all fans out there who believed in us and supported us, we hope you stay loyal with VoA. Of course we are trying to find a substitute for Melissa, we already have one for Wolfgang (to be announced soon). The show must go on...
At this point we do not know what happens regarding the Kamelot tour... It is surely not as easy as Melissa states below.
Well, please read their official blahblah about dropping out below.
Melissa: "This is the hardest decision I have ever had to make because its not something I necessarily want to do, but it is something I feel I have to do. I have decided to leave Visions of Atlantis. There are a few reasons why, but primarily it has to do with where my priorities are at the present time. This doesn't mean that I will stop making metal, but my preferences, needs, desires have shifted now. And honestly, I don't want to write music with a group that Wolfgang isn't a part of.
I want to also apologize for those who were excited for the Kamelot tour. But it sounds like the guys are going to find another singer to fill the slot. I feel most bad about this because I was looking forward to meeting so many of you and seeing our friends/fans again.
I want to thank everyone for supporting VoA over the last few years and thank the guys for everything! It's been a blast! To all the friends/fans, it has been great getting to know you. Thanks for everything!!"
Wolfgang: "After months of thinking about the pros and cons, I finally have decided to leave VoA. I wanna express that I leave VoA without any hard feelings or any fights involved, it's a personal decision, not really dealing with the relation to anybody else in the group. I know I owe VoA a lot, it has given me great tours, a great possibility, perfect support from Napalm, I saw places I´d never seen in my life and I´ve played crowds bigger than any crowd I'll ever play again. And I've met a ton of great people, and had a blast drinking with the guys ;)
I especially feel bad for Mario, who was already eager to start the songwriting for the next album, and has been my main partner for what turned out to be my songs on Trinity. Needless to mention all the improvements he brought for the Harbi tracks.
I don't feel creative in a VoA context any more. All the stuff I've written since Trinity doesn't fit to VoA at all, as naturally, I cannot go less heavy than let's say Wing Shaped Heart and I've found myself happier with heavier music. And I know that there's a certain limit to where you can push VoA music without being too far off from what was created by the previous line-ups. I analyzed Cast Away pretty well, and tried to discover the core of the music, without the production and arrangements & add my own style to forge my Trinity songs, which turned out well, and I'm still happy with them. But on the other hand, I cannot stand behind certain other parts of the VoA-Legacy or present with all I got, and with the labelling it brought with it. I guess even if we had written a Deathmetal-album, everybody still would label VoA a “version II” of some Finnish band I highly dislike, just because of the music composed on the first album and the promotion done on the second one. Trinity has no influence except our own, and certainly is no “version II” of something, but too many people are either deaf or still associate the current line-up with previous VoA recordings automatically, therefore I think that VoA might never get the attention/credibility it earned with great parts of Trinity.
So yeah, good luck to the guys & thanks to everybody cool I've met or the VoA-fans around the globe I've met."

Virgin Steele To Re-Issue Early Albums
Dockyard 1 will re-release the classic VIRGIN STEELE albums "Noble Savage" (1985) and "Age Of Consent" (1988). Both albums will be remastered and will feature previously unreleased bonus tracks, and new full-color booklets with new photos and commentary/liner notes.
Commented singer David DeFeis: "The purpose of these reissues, is not necessarily to have the fans who already purchased them buy them again, but attempt to reach out to those who have not yet heard of VIRGIN STEELE. I am happy to once again be working with Dirk Putzke and Christine Stephan. I have known them for a long time now, and our association has always yielded exciting, positive results, and been absolutely great! I look forward to a very Magickal year ahead with them."
Dockyard 1's Dirk Putzke said in a statement: "The reasoning behind Dockyard 1's signing [of VIRGIN STEELE] is quite simply to keep these masterpieces and milestones of true barbaric-romantic music alive in print and have them available for new fans, as well as those long time members of the VIRGIN STEELE audience."
For those of you who already possess these works, fear not… the bonus tracks will be available separately as downloads.
The release date is set for February 1 in Germany and February 4 in all other European territories.
In other news, David recently completed work for a track on the forthcoming EP from the female-fronted Polish power metal band CRYSTAL VIPER. CRYSTAL VIPER recorded a cover of David's song "Blood & Gasoline" (from the "Marriage Of Heaven & Hell Part 1" CD), and asked him if he would be interested in contributing vocals to it. David not only added vocals (including miles of harmonies), but also played keyboards and mixed and mastered the track. And…he also enlisted VIRGIN STEELE bassist Josh Block to play some mammoth seven-string guitar on it as well.
The CRYSTAL VIPER EP featuring the cover of "Blood & Gasoline" will be available shortly on Karthago Records.
Flyleaf To Play Dallas Charity Show
Texas-based band FLYLEAF has issued the following update:
"[On] November 29th we will be playing an exclusive six-song set for charity, sponsored by The Edge in Dallas. If you're in the Dallas area now, go to KDGE's website, for more details on how you can get it. It also supports a great cause, and proceeds benefit World Vision charities!"
Released on October 30, the special edition two-disc version of FLYLEAF's debut album builds on the success of "All Around Me", now in its seventh month out, and breaking into the Top 5 at Modern Rock radio. It's the third single from the album, following "I'm So Sick" and "Fully Alive" — and the video clips for all three were included on the bonus DVD. (The video for "All Around Me" was shot by visionary director Paul Fedor, whose credits include EVANESCENCE, MARILYN MANSON, and 30 SECONDS TO MARS. The videos for "I'm So Sick" and "Fully Alive" were directed by the Brothers Strause, who've worked with A PERFECT CIRCLE, LINKIN PARK, GODSMACK, STAIND, and others.)
In addition, special exclusive acoustic versions of "All Around Me", "I'm So Sick" and "Fully Alive" plus "Cassie" and "Red Sam", were included on both the CD and DVD configurations. The new package also contains a full-color FLYLEAF locker poster, and access to free "All Around Me" ringtone and wallpaper.
Asesino Sign European Release Deal
ASESINO — the death metal/grindcore project featuring DIVINE HERESY/ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares and STATIC-X bassist Tony Campos (on bass/vocals) — has inked a deal with France's Listenable Records for the European release of the group's latest album, "Cristo Satanico" ("Satanic Christ"). The CD, which was issued in the U.S. via Dino's label Odio Records, will be made available in Europe on February 16, 2008. The follow-up to 2002's "Coridos De Muerte" was recorded at Undercity Studios in Los Angeles and contains "15 songs of filthy perversion, satanism, molestation, rape, sodomy, murder, death, oh, and of course, love," according to a press release. The first single, "Regresando Odio" ("Returning the Hate"), features HATEBREED's Jamey Jasta as El Odio on backing vocals and Andreas Kisser (SEPULTURA) as Sepulculo on lead guitar.

San Diego, California-based metallers BENEDICTUM have pushed back the European release date of their sophomore album, "Seasons of Tragedy", to January 25 from the previously announced January 11 (via Locomotive Records). Due on March 4 in the U.S., the follow-up to 2006's "Uncreation" will contain 10 original songs plus a cover version of the ACCEPT classic "Balls to the Wall". The digipack edition will also include a cover of RAINBOW's "Catch the Rainbow". Guest musicians on the CD include George Lynch (ex-DOKKEN), Manni Schmidt (ex-RAGE, GRAVE DIGGER), Jeff Pilson (ex-DOKKEN, FOREIGNER) and Craig Goldy (DIO).
Starting on December 1, the band will offer insight into the pre-production process of the new record and the private lives of the musicians that make up BENEDICTUM. Every single day until Christmas, the site will present exclusive pictures, videoclips and voice messages related to Veronica and her bandmates (plus some additional exclusive footage and messages from Craig Coldy and Jeff Pilson, as well as pictures of George Lynch).
"Uncreation" was produced by Jeff Pilson and features guest appearances by Craig Goldy on the nine-minute epic "Valkyrie Rising" and bass legend Jimmy Bain (DIO, RAINBOW, WORLD WAR III) on the band's cover of the BLACK SABBATH classic "The Mob Rules".
Souldrainer Guitarist Takes Over Vocal Spot
Östersund, Sweden-based death metallers SOULDRAINER — who earlier in the year announced the departure of vocalist Johan Klitkou — have issued the following update:
"Who will sing for us now? That's a very common question these days. Marcus [Edvardsson] will play guitar and do the singing on the upcoming concerts from now on. We don't know if this will be the final solution or not, but for the moment this is the easiest way to go since Marcus already know all the lyrics and song patterns. When or if this will change, you will be the first to know, we promise."
SOULDRAINER's next live appearance will take place on December 21 at G:a Tingshuset in Östersund, Sweden with THE HAUNTED and BY NIGHT.
SOULDRAINER released its debut album, "Reborn", on May 18 via Holland's Holland's Mascot Records. The CD was recorded by SOULDRAINER and Marcus Edvardsson at Manic Motion Studio and was mixed and mastered by Marcus Edvardsson. The layout and artwork was handled by Daniel Dlimi. Three songs from the album are available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.
Avantasia Storm Norwegian Charts
AVANTASIA's new song, 'Lost In Space', had made its debut on the Norwegian single charts at #4, officially making it the highest single chart entry in the history of Nuclear Blast Records. Along with entering the Swedish charts at #3 and #4, and in Germany at #9, 'Lost In Space' is the highest single chart entry in the history of Nuclear Blast Records.
Leader Tobias Sammet (EDGUY) comments: "It doesn't really matter if it's a Top10 hit or not, most important is that I am happy with it and most fans seem to enjoy the material too. It seems like there are a lot of people out there who appreciate honest hand made music and I am very thankful for that."
Also, only on iTunes you will find an extended bonus version 'Lost In Space' featuring ex-HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske. This version is available for only 99 cents at iTunes now.

Threat Signal Announce New Guitarist
THREAT SIGNAL vocalist Jon Howard has issued the following update:
"I believe Threat Signal owes you an explanation regarding member changes.
This is what's been going on...
First, I would like to say, every former member of the band CHOSE to leave for their own personal reasons. And I am happy the way the band has turned out in the long run. We sound better than ever and we're having a great time together!
Early in the summer Kyle (McKnight - guitar) informed me that he no longer wanted to continue his career with the band. The main reason was touring, and not wanting to be away from home, even to play an hour away... we cancelled over 60 shows because of this. I was extremely disappointed. He then wanted me to post a statement saying he had given up on music, which I didn't post, because I don't believe it to be true.
I, on the other hand, will never turn my back on my passion, my friends, my fans, or myself. I started Threat Signal, and I will die with Threat Signal. I've recorded and produced every song we've ever done, wrote music, and written all lyrics and melodies, so I'm totally confident in moving forward with the band.
We have recently recruited a young shredder from Texas, Travis Montgomery. He's one of the best young players I've ever seen. Oh and he's also killer at guitar... His style fits in perfectly with what Threat Signal has created, and you will shit when you hear him play on the next album. You can see him in the tour blog videos. We are extremely excited about the new material we've been writing together, and I can't wait to release the next album. We are hoping to be in the studio by spring 2008.
So with all that said, I would like to thank everyone who has stuck with Threat Signal and supported us through the good and bad times. Life is a fucked up ride, but everything happens for a reason and we only get stronger."

Metallica To Give "Rock Band" First New Single
1UP.com has issued the following report from Kris Pigna:
It seems all we talk about these days is Rock Band this or Rock Band that, but truth be told, when there's so much exciting news circulating the game it's hard not to. The latest comes from a story in the Rocky Mountain News, written by a Kotaku writer who expands on the material in a posting. One subject that got cut, oddly enough, is the most intriguing: the possibility of a Rock Band television show.
Paul DeGooyer, MTV's senior vice president of home entertainment, was interviewed for the story, and said that while a Rock Band-themed show on MTV isn't currently in the works, it's not something that hasn't been considered. "The risk is that a show would be put together that's not very good," DeGooyer said. "We need the right concept, one that looks at how gamers engage with the game. There really isn't this impetus to put the wrong show up. The game speaks for itself."
DeGooyer also spoke of what MTV and Harmonix intend for weekly downloadable song releases, specifically plans to debut new music exclusively on Rock Band -- and one of the first could be a doozy. "There are a couple of things we've committed to, one of them with METALLICA for example," DeGooyer said. "They've reserved the right to give us their first single from their new album for the game." "Another three weeks on the road have passed by and we've played in places we're never been before. A lot of more positive reports, than little problems and great performances.

A very special thank to Alex Beyrodt, who did an impressive job and being more than a replacement!
We're preparing for Japan now and will start the German tour on December 11th. Plans for more toruing in 2008 are already shaping up and we will get back with some more news soon!"
Blender.com On "The 28 Most Recognizable Guitars"

Hard rock and metal legends featured include Les Claypool, Dave Grohl, Michael Anthony, Angus Young, Ace Frehley, Zakk Wylde, Jerry Only, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, Kurt Cobain, ZZ Top, Gene Simmons, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen among others.
