Virgin Black Reveal New Album Details
The End Records has set a release date of February 19th, 2008 for VIRGIN BLACK’s ‘Requiem - Fortissimo,’ the much-anticipated follow-up to 2007’s ‘Requiem - Mezzo Forte.’
The album’s cover art was created by esteemed fashion photographer Andrew Dunbar who’s work will be seen throughout the series
Says singer/keyboardist Rowan London about ‘Requiem - Fortissimo,’ “I should feel a sense of dread offering up something so atypical for us to be interrogated and scrutinized. But the fearlessness that we inhabited while writing Fortissimo and the Requiem series survives to see its unveiling. An album not so much about death as the absence of life; it’s damn heavy but its countenance is far more brutal than its sound could ever be. Long live the ‘death choir.’” More...

Having recently returned from a wildly successful European tour (including a performance at Nuclear Blast's 20 Year Anniversary Party in Stuttgart, Germany), KATAKLYSM vocalist Maurizio Iacono shares his thoughts on the band's upcoming stint as the support act for CHIMAIRA and TERROR:
"The KATAKLYSM machine is well-oiled and ready to crush! We are very anxious to start this tour with CHIMAIRA this Wednesday and can’t wait to see all our fans again and start the mayhem that we are known for. Unfortunately, our bass player Stéphane Barbe won't be able to make this trek because he and his girlfriend are expecting their first baby, but if all goes well, he'll be rejoining us on stage for the last three shows on the tour in Montreal, Toronto, and Millvale, Pennsylvania. In the meantime, worry not as Francois Mongrain from tech masters MARTYR is filling in on bass and is ready to strike and draw blood with the hyperblasters." More...

Following his departure from SOIL, Shaun will focus all his efforts on DIRGE, the new extreme metal project which he formed with THE DOOMSDAY SOCIAL drummer James Knight (ex-THE BLANK THEORY, CHACOPA) and A TEXAS FUNERAL vocalist Jermz.
According to Shaun, who previously played bass in the 1990s death metal act BROKEN HOPE, DIRGE's musical direction is "total fucking extreme metal in a very modern thrash style."

Skitliv Recruit New Drummer
Former SHINING drummer Ted has joined the ranks of SKITLIV, replacing Canadian drummer Trish.
Ted is currently rehearsing with the band ready for the upcoming December tour with Shining and HELLSAW. Drum duties on the recently announced limited edition MCD will be carried out by Ivar, who played with Skitliv on their recent tour.
Commented Maniac: “Trish was unable to join us on the recent tour due to commitments back in Canada, and her place was temporarily filled by Ivar, who is not, in fact, a drummer at all, but vocalist with SILVER; but he is one of those people who can master any instrument you put in his hands, and enjoyed his temporary career change! It was really at that point that we realised that Skitliv’s music had moved very far, and in a completely different direction, from when she joined originally. Trish is a terrific drummer and a great person, but her technique and personal musical interests are better suited to her other projects, rather than the slower paced, doom-oriented material we are now producing. We all wish her the best of luck with her other bands.” More...

The multinational act — singer Moa Holmsten and bassist Frida Ståhl from Sweden, and American guitarist Michelle Meldrum — released its European debut, "Loaded Mental Canon", in 2002 but has good reason for the delay of its follow-up.

Jon Oliva's Pain Issue Studio Update
JON OLIVA'S PAIN drummer Christopher Kinder has issued the following update:
"While this JON OLIVA'S PAIN recording is no different than the others....(we seem to be constantly swimming in BS), we are suprisingly proceeding on time and without many delays. I must personally commend everyone in the band for rising to the challenge and accepting responsibility to insure that we deliver the best CD possible. We cannot underestimate the incredible hours of work and input that Greg [late producer, engineer and close friend Greg 'Super G' Marchak] absorbed in the past. Now, it is up to all of us to take on his duties as well as our own. It is a learning curve and a change of pace that we have had no time to adjust to. But like every other JON OLIVA'S PAIN record, we tend to thrive on the challenge/pressure and ultimately push ourselves to the edge of our performances, patience and determination." More...
