Year of Desolation Added to Dying Fetus Tour

Indiana thrashers YEAR OF DESOLATION have just been confirmed as an addition to the currently-underway Dying Fetus War of Attrition tour alongside labelmates SKELETONWITCH. The band is excited to again meet up with their labelmates and friends, but also have to reluctantly pull out of the rest of the dates on the band's last tour, which featured YEAR OF DESOLATION as direct support to Thine Eyes Bleed alongside Hurtlocker and Sons of Azrael.

YEAR OF DESOLATION recently shot footage for a music video to "Suffer Thy Nemesis," one of the tracks on the band's self-titled Prosthetic Records debut. Photos from the two day shoot will be available shortly, and a completed version will appear online and on video outlets in the coming weeks. 'Year of Desolation' was released earlier this year in January, and the band has been on the road for the bulk of 2007 supporting the effort, the band's second full-length. More...

Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour Rumors Persist

The Pulse of Radio reports: LED ZEPPELIN tour rumors continue to circulate. The latest speculation comes after Jimmy Page hinted he would consider additional reunion shows. ZEPPELIN is set to play a one-off reunion in London on December 10. The date was just pushed back after Page broke his finger. Now Yahoo! Music is reporting that Page said, "At the moment, I'm told we're doing one gig. That's a bit unfortunate for all the people that would have liked to have seen us, but I can understand why some of the other members don't want to be touring."

Page's finger is expected to get better soon. He told London's Mirror how it happened, explaining, "The light was very dim and I tripped over something and I landed on various bits of my anatomy but of course the crucial part was left hand, little finger. It's unfortunate but what can you do?"

The show will feature Page, singer Robert Plant and bassist John Paul Jones performing together for the first time in 18 years, with Jason Bonham, son of late ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham, sitting behind the kit. Bill Wyman and the RHYTHM KINGS, Paul Rodgers, Paolo Nutini, and FOREIGNER are also scheduled to appear.

LED ZEPPELIN will release the CD/DVD set "Mothership" on November 13.

Korn Singer's Solo Set List Revealed

The Pulse of Radio reports: KORN singer Jonathan Davis will draw from a wide variety of material for his upcoming solo tour, according to sources close to the band. The show's tentative set list includes a number of selections that Davis composed for the soundtrack of the movie "Queen of the Damned", along with obscure KORN tracks and selected cover tunes. Many of the songs have never been performed live before. Davis will take out a five-piece band that includes KORN tech Shane Gibson on guitar and the band's touring keyboardist, Zac Baird.

The tour kicks off on Friday (November 9) in Hartford, Connecticut.

Davis plans to record a live CD/DVD at a private show for friends and family on Thursday night (November 8). Tracks from the set may reportedly make their way online this weekend, and the set itself will be available for fans to buy at the shows.

The 23-show run ends in mid-December. KORN will take the holidays off and then head to Europe in early 2008 as the band continues to support this year's untitled eighth album.

Davis' reported set list is: More...

XM Radio Launches Led Zeppelin Channel

XM Radio launched a new channel dedicated to the music of rock icons Led Zeppelin yesterday. The new channel, "XM LED: The Led Zeppelin Channel" (XM 59), will feature the band's complete audio catalog, interviews with band members and other unique content that celebrates the musical contributions of Led Zeppelin. On the day the channel launches XM will also offer the U.S. premiere of the forthcoming re-issued two-disc soundtrack for the band's landmark concert film "The Song Remains the Same," which features six previously unreleased songs from Led Zeppelin's 1973 Madison Square Garden shows.

XM's U.S. premiere of "The Song Remains the Same" soundtrack reissue will air in its entirety at 12 midnight ET on November 8 with encore broadcasts airing all day to kick off "XM LED."

"With this channel, XM has curated the comprehensive Led Zeppelin experience," said Eric Logan, executive vice president of programming, XM. "Often cited as a primary influence for a who's who of modern day musicians, Led Zeppelin is one of the most important rock acts from the last half-century and 'XM LED' will provide fans with the sounds and insights that have made them such enduring rock icons."

The launch of "XM LED" is the first of several highly-anticipated milestones for Led Zeppelin. In addition to the re-release of "The Song Remains the Same" soundtrack and DVD, the band is also issuing "Mothership," a 24-track re-mastered career retrospective; making its entire musical catalog available digitally; and taking to the stage for a reunion performance headlining the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute concert in London.

Led Zeppelin is one of music's most celebrated rock bands. They produced some of the greatest albums in recording history and are constantly considered amongst the greatest popular musicians of all time, both collectively and individually. The band formed in 1968 from the then recently disbanded group "The Yardbirds," when guitarist Jimmy Page brought in Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones and began touring as "The New Yardbirds" before changing their name to Led Zeppelin.

In 1969, their self-titled debut album was released and is regarded as one of the pivotal records in the creation of heavy rock. They have sold over 300 million albums worldwide and, in 1995, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"XM LED" will be available through May 8, 2008. XM's Lou Brutus will serve as program director for the channel. Programming information for the channel will be available online at http://www.xmradio.com/ledzeppelin.

Leaked Demos From SOAD Side Project Not Legit

The Pulse of Radio reports: SYSTEM OF A DOWN side project SCARS ON BROADWAY, which features guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan, has posted a message at its official web site claiming that material that has surfaced online in the guise of "demos" from the band are not legitimate recordings. The post said, "Lately, there have been songs leaked onto YouTube labeled as 'SCARS ON BROADWAY demos.'We want to make it clear that this music is from a disbanded project from four years ago, and is in no way affiliated with SCARS ON BROADWAY. Any music that will be leaked or released from SCARS, will be done so directly to our fans through our official websites."

SCARS ON BROADWAY has been in the studio working on its debut album, which is likely to surface sometime in early 2008.

Asked what the band will sound like, Dolmayan told The Pulse of Radio it's both similar to and different from SYSTEM OF A DOWN: "I think you're gonna be pleasantly surprised. It's certainly a departure from SYSTEM, but it's gonna be difficult to completely take a departure, because you have two members of SYSTEM, and you have the primary songwriter also writing these songs. But it is definitely an evolution."

Dolmayan recently launched his own online comic book store, called Torpedo Comics, at TorpedoComics.com.

The drummer also contributed some work to "Elect the Dead", the recently released solo debut from SYSTEM frontman Serj Tankian.

Amon Amarth Post Invaluable Darkness Tour Blog

Amon Amarth recently posted an extensive tour blog on their myspace page. It covers their exploits across Europe as part of Dimmu Borgir's Invaluable Darkness tour.

2007-10-19 Check Republic, Prague, Retro
A long drive on small bumpy roads and an endless search for the venue in Prague lead to us being late, very late. We finally got to the venue at 4pm. Still in time for the show though and for that we're thankful. We've never played actually in Prague before and it was a lot nicer than the usual Black Pez which is a dump. Excellent crowd, excellent food and of course STAROPRAMEN, what more can you ask for?

2007-10-20 Poland, Warsaw, Progresja
An even longer drive and though we thought it to be impossible, even bumpier roads! Not much sleep tonight... On top of that we couldn't find the venue. The bus has a GPS system but it doesn't work in the eastern parts of Europe, way to go Alfredo! After getting lost a couple of times and guided by some locals... to some sort of Polish local neighbourhood (!) a police car stopped some other car in front of us so we simply asked them for the way. And not only did they explain it, but they escorted us with the blue lights on! Turned out to be about 2 minutes from where we were by the way...We had put bets on what time we'd be parked at the venue and Olavi beat DIMMU's soundguy with one minute when we got there 4.44 pm in the afternoon, winning the 40 euros in the pot. Thanks to the crappy roads some of our gear was not working properly and we had some major technical problems during the show. However, the Polish metal heads didn't seem to care too much and we did our best to please a crowd that are spoiled with shows from death metal monsters Behemoth, Vader and Decapitated etc. And they seemed to still enjoy our show!

2007-10-21 Germany, Berlin, Columbiahalle
We've sold out the smaller Columbia club twice the last couple of years when we made our own tour and now we get to play the bigger venue. It doesn't have the same intimate feeling and playing on a Sunday can be a bit quieter than it would on a Friday or Saturday. Still an awesome response and crowd and we had a great time on stage! The catering situation at the Columiba venues is world class! Absolutely the best in Europe as we get spoiled with all different kinds of meat, fish, veggies and an extraordinary desert. Not a long drive to tomorrow's show so bus call wasn't until 9 am. Lots of time to party in Berlin and get some well needed sleep without feeling like you're just about to get thrown out from your bunk as the bus goes off road.

2007-10-22 Germany, Hamburg, Docks
We've only played the Markthalle before so we were not familiar with this venue. Docks is situated right on Reeperbahn, which we are familiar with. A nice venue, not as cramped and sauna-like as Markthalle usually gets even if it still did get very hot on stage. The Hamburg fans has to be one of the best in Germany though, maybe cause they're close to Wacken/Mecka. With 1600 people raising their hands in the air and it felt like everyone was singing along to our songs we had one of our best shows on this tour so far!

2007-10-23 Germany, Wiesbaden, Schlachthof
Wiesbaden is a nice little town, some of us went to the nearby Saturn and mall during the day. The rest of us fought over the limited amount of bandwidth internet at the venue. Winner of the day to the internet: Johan H. as no one else managed to get online.
Pretty nice venue and stage, and the crowd seemed to enjoy our show very much. We certainly enjoyed playing!

2007-10-23 Day off, still in Wiesbaden
Spent the day going bowling and had dinner at a Greek restaurant. Ted won the bowling with 144 points average out of three games.

2007-10-24 Germany, Munich, Georg-Elser-Halle
Djurgården's football team lost the Swedish champion ship tournament today so Johan H and Ted were grieving a bit. Never played this venue before, but it was very nice. And as always the Munich crowd was welcoming us and giving us a great reception, we had an awesome time on stage!

2007-10-25 Germany, Leipzig, Werk
A nice venue and excellent catering greeted us in the morning (read 1-2pm). We've always had a warm reception from the fans here since early years when we did lots of small club shows in this parts of Germany. We'll never forget stoye halle for example! Tonight was the biggest show out of the German ones, and definitely the loudest! Since's DIMMU is playing the nuclear blast festival tomorrow and we can't play on off days we have two days of no show in a row. Some of us took the opportunity to fly home from Leipzig, spending two nights off the bus. The rest of the party went to Hamburg to hang out with Gamma Ray in their rehearsal studio and later on going to the Iced Earth show at Markthalle.

2007-10-28 Denmark, Copenhagen, Store Vega
It's been 7 years since we played Denmark and that's way too long. Strange how it seems to be harder to play in neighbouring countries than on the other side of the world. The Danish vikings were loud and obnoxious and definitely didn't care about it being a Sunday, just as we had hoped. Now just let's hope it wont take another 7 years...

2007-10-29 SWEDEN, Lund, Mejeriet
Ahh... Swedish soil. Feels like coming home, even if they speak funny here, they're still countrymen :-) First time for us in Lund and it seemed like a nice town. A cool venue, but a bit small stage so we were a bit cramped up during the show. Mondays are always harder to get the crowd going crazy, and especially with such a young crowd as tonight, but after some persuasion they got the viking blood pumping!

2007-10-30 Travel day
Got to Stockholm early in the morning and we had time to go home for a couple of hours before taking the ferry at 5 pm.
The ferries between Sweden and Finland are giant floating entertainment facilities with SPA's, pools, saunas, restaurants, bars, shopping, casino etc. So after some relaxing sauna and massage, followed by a fine dinner, it was time to party... hard. And some of us were more drunk than others when we had to get off the boat at 10 in the morning Finnish time...

Leatherwolf Part Ways With Guitarist Geoff Gayer

Southern California metal band LEATHERWOLF have parted ways with guitarist Geoff Gayer. As a result, the group's European tour had to be cut short by one date.

Commented the group: "First of all, we would like to apologize to the Rock House crew in Pescara, Italy and all the fans that were looking forward to seeing us live. We were very much looking forward to playing for you all and ending our trip on a high note. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. Geoff's unacceptable behavior prevented us from carrying on after last night's gig at the Black Horse in Cermenate. We will spare you the details but it was ugly — now we know how the members of UFO must have felt like every time Michael Schenker had one of his 'episodes.'"

"We are on our way back home to Orange County as we speak and will evaluate the situation and go from there. Working with Geoff in his current state is absolutely out of the question yet we are aware that replacing a key member and major creative force will not be easy. Ideally, we'll move on with a local Southern California guitar talent who we can write, rehearse, and gig with on a regular basis and gear up for 2008, which includes playing the Festival de Metal Borocua 5 next May in Puerto Rico."

"Qualified interested parties can contact us via our MySpace page or e-mail us at dean.rob@mac.com (please do not send us any mp3s unless asked!)."

Roadburn Festival Confirm Cephalic Carnage

Denver’s CEPHALIC CARNAGE have been confirmed for the 2008 Roadburn Festival, held the weekend of April 18th in The Netherlands.

CEPHALIC CARNAGE will perform on Saturday, April 19th, during the festival weekend held annually at the 013 Club in Tilburg. The band won’t perform their unusual and uncompromising marijuana-induced grind. Instead, CEPHALIC CARNAGE is going to drone out at Roadburn 2008 playing the entirety of their epic Halls of Amenti, their ultra doom-influenced record from 2002, as part of an entire set of drone and doom. The band will be doing this special set only at Roadburn, performing Halls of Amenti live for only the second time ever. For more information on the Roadburn Festival, please visit www.roadburn.com.

CEPHALIC vocalist Lenzig Von Stroking comments on this special performance: “CEPHALIC CARNAGE is going to drone out with the droniest of the drone at Roadburn 2008, and be a mile high while doing it -playing Halls of Amenti, and plodding through the chaos with visuals that will bring tears, sighs, awes, smiles and joys…or sadness. It will be a complete honor to play such a prestigious event in an amazing country and city. In other words: Our live performance will be like DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN plodding through the La Brea Tar Pits.”

Stormlord Complete Writing New Album

Italy's STORMLORD have issued the following update:

"The song-writing for our fourth album is almost done, right now we’re taking care of the last details and then all the songs will be complete. What we hold in our hands it’s the most epic sounding stuff since our debut Supreme Art Of War, even if the references to our most recent albums will not be missed. We guess you can label it extreme epic metal at its best. In a few months we’ll begin recording the successor of The Gorgon Cult, we just can’t wait for you to hear it! But the best it’s yet to come: in the next days we’ll sign a new deal that will grant an huge availability all around the world to the new CD. It’s been a long time filled with hard and silent work, but now we’re ready to strike again! We’ve got a shit-load of amazing surprises waiting for you all. The Stormlord is ready for another battle!"

Sanctification Bring In Tony Laureano On Drums

SANCTIFICATION, the Swedish death metal band featuring current/members of GOD AMONG INSECTS, IN BATTLE and SOULDRAINER, has recruited Tony Laureano (DIMMU BORGIR, ex-NILE, ANGELCORPSE) to lay down the drum tracks for the group's long-awaited second album. The recording sessions for the as-yet-untitled CD will take place next spring at the Abyss Studios in Sweden. A summer/fall 2008 release via Pulverised Records is expected.

SANCTIFICATION parted ways with drummer Nils Fjellström earlier in the year due to "his busy schedule with DARK FUNERAL," according to a press release.

Commented the band: "The loss of Nils was a big one but this feels like a fresh start for us, and we are very happy and honoured that Tony wants to do this with us. He is a great guy and a fantastic drummer, so this feels absolutely awesome. The writing of the album is in full progress and as soon as all the songs are done we will start to plan the recording accordingly."

LoG Drummer Says Its Time For A Nasty Metal Record

With 2007's Ozzfest behind them, Lamb of God are preparing for the last tour in the cycle for last year's Sacrament. After that, they'll head into hibernation mode and begin work on their next LP, Adler said. The band's upcoming run is a revival of sorts, of the 2003 Headbangers Ball Tour — that trek featured Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage, the latter of whom are co-headlining the new LOG trek, which kicks off November 28 in Lowell, Massachusetts, and runs through December 17 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. DevilDriver and Soilwork will serve as main support for the tour.

"It's the exclamation [point] to the album cycle," Adler explained. "We're going to go away and hibernate for a while after this tour, so we wanted to make it something special — and get back with our friends in Killswitch, especially. On this tour, we want to dig a bit deeper on all of our records, so we're not bored with it. It's important for us to step it up a notch and give people a reason to come out and see us."

Adler said LOG plan to inject into their new set several songs from the self-titled album they released under their previous name, Burn the Priest, in 1999. After the tour, they'll spend some time away from the band, "so we can remember what our wives look like." Then, they'll get serious about writing new material: "It's time for us to put out an unpolished, nasty metal record," the guitarist said.

"Actually, in our talks of this hibernation next year, we've really, all of us, have gone back and revisited the Burn the Priest album and what it meant at the time, and what we can learn from it in going forward to the next record," he continued. "I think it's definitely something we're going to be considering in the writing process. We have some ideas floating around, but nothing cemented or named yet. One of the things we've all done is [gone] backwards in our history and pulled out [2000's] New American Gospel, and the Burn the Priest record, and we want to take the experience we have now as writers and players, and revisit those records — to get back into that headspace again but bring the experience we have now to that process. We want to get a little dirtier, because we don't want to be this homogenized metal band."

Adler said the band members are considering producing the LP themselves but may also consider assembling a team of producers — some they've worked with in the past, some they've never worked with before — to help guide them through the process.

In the meantime, LOG have two releases on the way to hold fans over until the next record, which Adler said could be ready in time for a late 2008 release. This spring, the band will release another DVD, which the guitarist said is the companion disc to the DVD that came with deluxe editions of Sacrament. It will feature tons of tour footage and include "more of the drinking aspect of the band."

Adler also said Sacrament will be reissued on November 27, but in a unique form.

"The label came to us several months ago, right before Ozzfest, and said they wanted to repackage the record with some kind of bonus track and sell it again," he said. "We didn't want to do it. Being fans of music and people who buy music, it always sucked to go buy a record and then two months later, there's another version of it with a live track that you love, and you have to spend your money again. We came back to them and said, 'No, we don't want to do it. Please don't do it. We will be very unhappy if that happens.' They brought us to the table and asked if there was any way we'd feel good about re-releasing Sacrament."

So Adler came up with a rather genius idea. "It will come with a disc of every music file, every instrument, separated, for every song on the record," he said. "The solos, the effects, everything, so that anybody can reassemble them, can cut them up, lay down their own vocals, cut out the drums, do it themselves, produce it better than we did. This is the studio experience of the record, and with any recording program, you'll be able to import these files and do whatever you want with them."

Killswitch Frontman Wants To Work on BHBS Again

As Killswitch Engage prepare for their tour with Lamb of God, frontman Howard Jones revealed to Metal File his desire to work once again with Blood Has Been Shed, the band he led before replacing Jesse Leach in KSE back in 2002. "We'll probably do something else again," he said. "It's still just [drummer] Justin [Foley] and I, [guitarist] Corey [Unger] and [bassist] John [Lynch], and we'll probably record something again. We might drum up something here, because the band's been around for quite a bit of time, and we need to celebrate our anniversary and put out something — maybe do a few new songs. We'll reconnect at some point, because it's something we've tossed around. It's just a matter of everyone connecting." Meanwhile, Killswitch guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz is continuing to work on his side project, Burn Your Wishes, with Unearth's Ken Susi, Seemless' Dave Pino and Derek Kerswill, and former Poison the Well bassist Iano Dovi

Energy Drink Named After Jimi Hendrix

Hardy Bottling Co., a year-old Memphis beverage manufacturer and distributor, has inked a deal with Los Angeles-based Beverage Concepts to produce and distribute an energy drink named after guitar legend Jimi Hendrix.

Hardy Bottling, which took over the former Coors Brewery in September 2006, is getting a jolt from energy drinks. Company president Carolyn Hardy says the initial Hendrix drink line contract is for 5,000 cases. The plant has existing deals with energy drink brands like Crunk!, Monster and Rockstar. Hardy Bottling's other clients include manufacturing and warehousing for Arizona Beverage Co., which manufactures Arizona Iced Tea, Coors and Coca-Cola. The Jimi Hendrix Liquid Experience drink is currently available in New York, New Jersey, California, Florida and Nevada. The beverage retails for around $2.

Beverage Concepts is currently working to get the product placed in Sam's Wholesale Club and Wal-Mart stores. The Hendrix drink comes in a 16-ounce can or a 16-ounce aluminum bottle, which is touted as a collector's item.

Hardy says half of Hardy Bottling's business is coming from new products like the Hendrix drink.

Nikki Sixx: "I Fell From Grace"

In 2002, the members of Mötley Crüe published The Dirt: Confessions Of The World's Most Notorious Rock Band, an engrossingly salacious autobiography of the '80s glam-rock group. The book quickly became a bestseller (a film version directed by Larry Charles is due out in 2009), reinforcing Mötley Crüe's already substantial legacy of debauchery.

But The Dirt had too good of a time celebrating that lifestyle to address its vast dark side, which Crüe bassist/primary songwriter Nikki Sixx examines with startling frankness in his new memoir, The Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rock Star. The book collects Sixx's diary entries from Christmas 1986 to Christmas 1987, a year he spent mostly out of his mind on a variety of substances, primarily heroin. While Sixx does his share of partying in The Heroin Diaries, he spends more time sitting in a closet with a shotgun, convinced the police are coming—or enduring some other drug-induced psychosis. Most journal entries are followed by current-day commentary from the people involved, from bandmates to Sixx's grandfather to his ex-girlfriend (now a born-again Christian minister), and more. It's the anti-Dirt, full of despair and self-destruction, but also traces of hope—which Sixx hopes will inspire other addicts. (A portion of sales will be donated to Covenant House, which helps runaways.) Shortly after The Heroin Diaries' release, Sixx spoke to The A.V. Club about the bad (his childhood), the good (speaking on Capitol Hill for National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month), and what's behind door Number 2.

The A.V. Club: Do you have any regrets when you look at the book now, like not being able to enjoy Crüe's success at its zenith?

Nikki Sixx: We had a really good time, to be honest with you, when we were out there doing what we were doing. That particular year, the reason I time-capsuled it was because the bottom for me, personally, had started to fall out, and I didn't know why. I was able to ask a lot of questions inside the actual journals that I really didn't have an answer to. Twenty years ago, I didn't know what the hell was going on. I'm lucky to have been through enough time to have figured it out, and I thought it was time to expose that for people who have similar issues.

I'm finding that people reading the book are saying, "You came from one background, I came from this background—you were a rock star, I was a CEO. I didn't have a heroin/coke problem, but I had a pill problem. But I also fell from grace, didn't know how to get recovery, and I am now in recovery." People tell me that their kids read it and told them they'll never do drugs—"This book really shows me where it goes." It's interesting that different layers to this story are touching different people, and to me, that's the greatest gift, besides the money going to Covenant House. For me, the questions got answered after these journals were written. Also, all the commentary from parents, bandmates, girlfriends, and friends, that helps paint the picture too. You can now go, "No wonder this guy was so fucked-up. No one in his family can even tell him what really happened." And I still don't know.

AVC: It's interesting to see your mother and grandfather giving completely different versions of the same story. What were you hoping to get out of that?

NS: I wasn't really hoping to get anything out of that—I just wanted them to tell their version of the truth, because I felt like they needed a forum. And what it shows is that a dysfunctional family can have a massive impact on youth. Those formative years, from about zero to 7, those are important years. For me, they were completely fucked-up. I know people who have had worse—the kids that we work with at Covenant House have had worse. They were on the street, and they can't get off the street. For me, my choice was eventually to run away from home.

AVC: So it was about showing the effects of a bad home life?

NS: Yeah, a lot can happen. People don't look at that. They think, "Oh, my kids are going to be fine. My kids are resilient." But at a certain point, the damage starts. They start to feel pain—and when they feel bad, they start to take painkillers. We want to kill the pain.

AVC: How much of that has informed you as a parent?

NS: Oh, massively, massively. Every day, I wake up, and the first thing I think of is my kids. Then I do what I do with my life, which is to be a creative person no matter what I do—I have a clothing line with Kelly Gray that's doing really great, and I'm a photographer, a songwriter, and I have the band Sixx:A.M., which did a soundtrack to the book, and then Mötley Crüe. Then the day ends, and I'm back to my kids again. Because I know that these years, I'll never get them back.

AVC: How old are your kids?

NS: Well, I've got 16, 13, 12, and 6-and-a-half.

AVC: Teenagers—that seems like it would be brutal.

NS: [Laughs.] You know, sometimes they say the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. In my case, I am pretty fortunate. They're pretty balanced, cool kids, going through pretty much the same thing all the other kids go through. There's nothing unique about me as a parent. I am a parent. My kids are kids. We do the best we can do. I don't think they know a lot about what I do, other than that I am in this crazy band, Mötley Crüe.

AVC: Sixteen and 13, that's around the time kids start doing drugs. As someone in recovery, how do you approach that?

NS: I approach it the same way I approach it with anybody I'm talking to about the book: Behind door Number 1, I can tell you what's there. And behind door Number 2, I can tell you what's there. Behind door Number 1, there is death, destruction, insanity, jail—it's not a pretty picture. Behind door Number 2 is our life now. In the end, I can only enforce the law so much underneath the roof of our house. In life, I can't enforce any laws. I can only say, "Read the book. It describes your choices—pick it." I am not a preacher. I don't want to stand on a soapbox and tell people, "Don't drink. Don't use drugs." With my kids, I say "Don't drink. Don't do drugs." But when they turn 21, they can drink. I hope they never use drugs, but people make their own decisions. When they're old enough, they are going to have the chance to make their own decisions. I just hope I have given them enough love and support, and the ability to come and talk to me if they need to.

AVC: It's tough to say with addiction if it's nature or nurture.

NS: They say that alcoholism is a disease, and that it gets passed on from generation to generation. Trust me, I've told my kids about that: "You've got the crazy gene in you, guys. When it comes time to kick back with the buddies, drink a beer, and watch a football game, just realize that there will be a day when that thing turns on you. So you better keep an eye on it." Because I have a lot of friends who come from alcoholic families, and they aren't alcoholics, because someone explained it to them. When I was in Washington DC, they really talked about the difference statistically between families that talk about drug addiction and ones that don't. The kids that can say "I see where this is going" have a much better chance of not becoming addicts, because they have been educated, if only through their parents. For me, I never knew what addiction was. I just knew my heroes, like [New York Dolls guitarist] Johnny Thunders, did heroin. I didn't have a father, it looked good to me. If I had read Johnny Thunders' book The Heroin Diaries, I don't think I would have done heroin.

Manowar Drummer Working On Instrumental Solo Album

MANOWAR drummer Scott Columbus has told Brazil's NovoMetal.com that he is working on his first solo album.

"Over the past year, I've been working on a solo project, and it's instrumental — there is no vocals, it's all music," he said. "I've got about 80% of the songs [done] and hopefully, in the next year, 2008, it will get released. [Musically it's] a little different from MANOWAR, [but] it's really cool. It's fucking great driving music. You'll see yourself driving at high speeds if you listen to that."

MANOWAR has scheduled several German signing sessions at the end of November in connection with the release of the "Magic Circle Festival Volume I" DVD.

Avenger of Blood Post Release Date For New Album

Heavy Artillery Records has set a December 25, 2007 release date for the new AVENGER OF BLOOD album, entitled "Death Brigade". Gracing the front cover will be the magnificent artistry of Joe Petagno.

The Las Vegas-based band has been busy making its mark on the metal underground since 2003 with relentless local and regional gigging as well as multiple appearances at Minneapolis Mayhem festival, Northwest Deathfest and a full U.S. tour with GODLESS RISING (featuring former members of VITAL REMAINS). While their scathing brand of thrash metal is often compared to such legendary bands as KREATOR, SODOM, and DESTRUCTION at their finest, AVENGER OF BLOOD brings a sound that is unmistakably its own.

Earlier this year AVENGER OF BLOOD was showcased on the Heavy Artillery compilation "Speed Kills…Again!"

Bullet For My Valentine Postpone Irish Dates

Welsh metallers BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE have issued the following update:

"We regret to inform you we have had to postpone our Irish shows due to unforeseen circumstances. We're trying to re-schedule them as soon as possible — we WILL make it to Ireland this year."

Commented frontman Matt Tuck: "We are absolutely gutted to cancel these two shows. We really value all the support from the fans in Ireland — and I will make sure we get over there to cause mayhem as soon as we possibly can. 2008 will be a huge year for us and we want to share that with the Irish fans as much as anyone."

Despite director Frank Borin's recent announcement that he would helm BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE's video for the song "Scream, Aim and Fire" in Australia in early September, it appears that the clip has not yet been shot. The Welsh metal band will now film the video on Saturday, November 17 at an undisclosed location in the Los Angeles area. More...

Evergrey Cancel European Tour With Brainstorm

Swedish metallers EVERGREY have pulled out of their previously announced co-headlining European tour with BRAINSTORM which was scheduled to take place in February/March.

Commented EVERGREY in a statement: "Unfortunately we must infom you that EVERGREY not is able to do the planned tour with BRAINSTORM in March 2008. This is due to the fact that our next album not will be ready in time to be released before the tour. We feel it's not fair to the fans or to the promoters or to BRAINSTORM to do a tour without the new album out. If the circumstances aren't the best we shouldn't do a major tour like this. We are sorry for any problems this may cause but we will be back soon."

BRAINSTORM added: "As EVERGREY will not have their new album released in time, they can not take part in the planned tour. Due to this fact, we need to reschedule the dates for the tour that will now happen without EVERGREY. We are already discussing some very interesting special guests but as we are sure you understand, we need some days to come up with new dates and details."

As previously reported, EVERGREY is documenting the recording process for the follow-up to 2006's "Monday Morning Apocalypse" for a forthcoming DVD, to be released sometime next year. According to the band, the final result will be "an in-depth look on how the whole recording went, with all the fuck-ups, conversations etc. It's not going to be [EVERGREY's version of the METALLICA documentary] 'Some Kind of Monster' since we dont have the fundings, but nevertheless."

EVERGREY recently announced the addition of former STRATOVARIUS bassist Jari Kainulainen to the group's ranks. Jari made his live debut with the band at Fosen Rock festival in Fosen, Norway on August 25.

EVERGREY is currently seeking a new label home after splitting with Inside Out Music following the release of "Monday Morning Apocalypse".

BRAINSTORM's new album, "Downburst" is scheduled for release on January 25 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy and January 28 in the rest of the world via Metal Blade Records. The track listing for the effort is as follows (not final sequence):

01. Falling Spiral Down
02. Fire Walk With Me
03. Stained With Sin
04. Frozen
05. End In Sorrow
06. Redemption In Your Eyes
07. How Do You Feel
08. All Alone
09. Surrounding Walls
10. Crawling In Chains
11. Protect Me From Myself

Commented the band: "We have spared neither trouble nor expense to deliver you the best-sounding, state-of-the-art BRAINSTORM album to date, can't wait to let you hear because this one will leave you with your jaw dropped, I'm sure! We are almost done with the mix and all I can say is that everything sounds f*#%ing amazing."

Chthonic Kick Off Tour, Ready New Compilation

The Taiwanese symphonic black metal band CHTHONIC, who this summer became the first-ever Asian extreme metal band to tour with Ozzfest, kicked off their European tour last night (November 7) in Wolverhampton, England. The band will play a week's worth of shows with Ozzfest tour mates 3 Inches of Blood -- including a performance at the inaugural Hard Rock Hell festival - before joining Marduk for a short trek throughout Eastern Europe and Finland. From there, ChthoniC will team with "heroic folk metal" warriors Ensiferum for a two-week tour of Western Europe.

Vocalist Freddy Lim says that some fans in Wolverhampton - where ChthoniC had never before played - even knew all their songs. "We couldn't wait to be back on the road again," he says. "The passionate UK fans quickly helped us forget all about the long flight from Taiwan. Some of them told us they've been waiting years to see us, and on stage I can feel their passion!"

In other news, SPV/Deathlight will release a new ChthoniC compilation, Pandemonium, early next year. This album will feature re-recorded versions of many older, hard-to-find ChthoniC songs as well as several selections from their most recent studio album, "Seediq Bale." For new fans, "Pandemonium" will provide the perfect introduction to Taiwan's most successful musical ambassadors; for older fans, the album makes these cult classics finally sound the way they were always intended to be heard.

The track listing is as follows:
'City Of Obscurity' (new instrumental)
'Onset Of Tragedy' (new recording; original version appears on 2002's Relentless Recurrence)
'Revert To Mortal Territory' (new recording; original version appears on 2002's Relentless Recurrence)
'Grab the Soul To Hell' (new recording; original version appears on 2002's Relentless Recurrence)
'Decomposition Of The Mother Isle' (Aboriginal Gods Enthroned) (new recording; original version appears on 1998's Where The Ancestors' Souls Gathered)
'Floated Unconsciously In The Acheron' (new recording; original version appears on 2000's 9th Empyrean)
'Indigenous Laceration' (from Seediq Bale)
'Bloody Gaya Fulfilled' (from Seediq Bale)
'Quasi Putrefaction' (from Seediq Bale)
'Guard The Isle Eternally' (new recording; original version appears on 2000's 9th Empyrean)
'Relentless Recurrence' (new recording; original version appears on 2002's Relentless Recurrence)

Like other ChthoniC releases, Pandemonium will feature lavish packaging that includes 10 collectible "song cards," unique digibox packaging with album art featuring Kuan, the "Ghost King" who graces all ChthoniC covers, and a chronology that details the band's decade-long evolution from underground obscurity into one of the fastest-rising international stars in heavy metal.

"It wasn't easy for us to learn how to produce or record a quality metal album in Taiwan, a country that used to be a metal desert," Lim explains. "The earlier albums are important to us, and they remind us vividly of the memorable journey that ChthoniC has been on, but it was great to be able to combine modern technology and 10 years of experience with the old songs we like the most to make them better, and to let fans get a different taste of them."

Sturmgeist Comments On Finnish School Shooting

Sturmgeist's Cornelius von Jackhelln has issued a statement on the recent high school shooting in Finland:

"Today an 18-year old man shot seven people in a high school massacre in Tuusula, Finland. The killer referred to himself as "Sturmgeist89" on YouTube. Sturmgeist is not only the name of my band, but also of a character in the video game "Medal of Honor". As of yet, it is not established wherefrom the murderer took the name. Understandably, journalists keep calling me, eager to prove a link between my band and the massacre. However, as an artist, I can neither control the actions of my fans nor be held responsible for them."

"It is my firm conviction that if somebody wishes to go down as the cause of a massacre like that in Tuusula, explanations beyond music must be sought. In an interview with the Oslo-based newspaper Dagbladet today I argue that although extreme metal as a genre deals with topics such as isolation, misanthropy and despair, blaming the musicians is both wrong and unfair. It is people that kill people. Not music."

"Extreme metal has a potential both for social comment and personal katharsis, given its dealing with problems ordinarily shunned by mainstream society: suicide, madness, pollution, violence, warfare and drug abuse all occur regularly in extreme metal lyrics, mostly subject to critical scrutiny."

"I do recall how lonely and isolated I felt as a teenager, how strong an impact music had on my life. Extreme metal helped me channel my aggression in a constructive way; where Slayer's album "Seasons in the Abyss" described the psychology of a mass murderer, Cannibal Corpse's "The Bleeding" gave graphic accounts of extreme violence. Even though I adored both albums, I did not go out and kill people."

"Knowing the boundary between fiction and reality was always a prerequisite for dealing with dark matters in music, literature, film and video games. It seems obvious that the Tuusula murderer was ignorant about this boundary."

"The lyrics of Sturmgeist do contain topics both sinister and martial. Topics such as WWI & WWII ("Triumph", "Enigma"), the war in Iraq ("Shock & Awe", "Iron Hammer"), Viking battle ("Army of Odin"), a victim exerting revenge on his tormentor ("Ruger"). I readily admit it. Saying anything else would not only be a blatant lie; worse, it would be betraying the music I love and believe in."

"I am most shocked by the tragic event in Finland, and mourn the victims of the crime. I believe that the victims could have been alive today, if youngsters on the edge were given more attention by the proper instances. I extend my compassion and my condolences to the families of the deceased."

You can check out Sturmgeist on their MySpace page or download an MP3 of "Rock Me Amadeus" from their latest release "Uber" on Season of Mist.

Bullet For My Valentine Need Fans For Video Shoot

Despite director Frank Borin's recent announcement that he would helm BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE's video for the song "Scream, Aim and Fire" in Australia in early September, it appears that the clip has not yet been shot. The Welsh metal band has just made the following announcement via its MySpace page:

"Attention all So Cal BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE fans! How would you like to be in BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE's next video? The band will be shooting a video for their new single 'Scream, Aim, Fire' in Los Angeles on Saturday November 17th at an undisclosed Location. Please email us your name, phone and email address to bulletvideoshoot@gmail.com and enter to be an extra in the video. You must be 18 years old to enter and must bring a valid driver's license for proof of age. You will be contacted before the shoot with location and all other relevant information! Good luck!!!!

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE has set "Scream, Aim and Fire" as the title of its new album, according to Revolver magazine. Due in February 2008 via Trustkill Records, the follow-up to 2005's "The Poison" was recorded at Sonic Ranch studios near El Paso, Texas with producer Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY, NAPALM DEATH) and will contain 11 songs, all of which frontman Matthew Tuck describes as "really melodic heavy metal. It's not 'The Poison II'; but at the same time it's got everything that you'd expect BULLET to have — really catchy, hooky choruses and full-on vocals, and the music is very much in-your-face and heavy. We've still got songs that are like 'Tears Don't Fall', but they're much more '80s-arena influenced. It's stuff that in 10 years' time will probably be really uncool to listen to; but in 20 years' time it's going to be the best thing ever," he laughed.

Tuck added, "The majority of the album is in a totally new gear for us. We're a band that doesn't see the point in standing still or doing the same thing twice, you know? The only thing we could do was completely blow 'The Poison' out of the water, and we think we've done that."

"The Poison" has sold 339,000 copies in the United States since coming out in February of 2006 (the CD was issued in Europe in October 2005), according to Nielsen SoundScan.

New Footage Of Glen Danzig's Stage Fall Posted

Fan-filmed video footage of DANZIG performing the song "How the Gods Kill" at the opening concert of the band's current tour, on October 23, 2007 in Baltimore, Maryland, can be viewed below (courtesy of "jodaro55"). The group's frontman Glenn Danzig can be seen in the clip falling off the stage around the four-minute, nine-second mark (-1:10) before making his way back and finishing the song.

According to Rock N Roll Experience's Bob Suehs, who attended the Baltimore concert, Glenn "was in a bad mood after the fall — he cut the show short and he nixed the [scheduled] MISFITS set with Doyle [Von Frankenstein, ex-MISFITS] and was yelling at Todd Youth [guitar] the rest of the night telling him to slow down his playing. The story I was told from a security guard was that Glenn dislocated his shoulder, but I can't confirm that. However, he was hurt badly because he did not meet fans after the show... he ran directly to the bus and didn't come out."

DANZIG cancelled its scheduled October 25 concert at The Worcester Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts due to Glenn's shoulder injury.

Glenn has been sporting an arm sling at most of the subsequent shows on the current tour and reportedly stated at the October 24 concert in Philadelphia that he was glad the MISFITS songs were short while performing the joint set with Doyle. It was also reported that Danzig looked in pain at various points during the Philadelphia concert.

DANZIG's current trek is in support of "The Lost Tracks of Danzig", the two-CD set that was released May 29, as well as Glenn's limited-edition book "Drukija, Contessa of Blood", loosely based on the legend of 17th century vampire Countess Elizabeth Bathory, and illustrated by long time collaborator Simon Bisley.

"The Lost Tracks" is comprised of 26 previously unreleased tracks that span Danzig's entire career and were originally recorded during the band's seven-album "arc" that began with 1988's "Danzig". More...

More Details Revealed For Stillborn Fest

Stillborn Records has announced the lineup and tour dates for their annual Stillborn Fest 2007. The 10-day tour will kick off on December 20 at Jaxx in Springfield, VA and will include headliner HATEBREED with support from AGNOSTIC FRONT, GOD FORBID, NECRO, AT ALL COST and Stillborn's newest signing, THY WILL BE DONE. These bands will play the main stage on all tour dates. Additional bands will play the main stage on select dates and will be announced shortly. Some Stillborn Fest shows will also feature a second stage.

Stillborn Records founder and HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta had this to say about this year's event: "These shows are going to be a great way for us to wrap up the touring cycle on 'Supremacy' and get to work on our first-ever live DVD. We hope to film almost every one of these shows, so be there and be ready to go off! This will be our first tour on U.S. soil since Ozzfest, and we cannot wait to play all these cities, as they are some of our favorites!"

HATEBREED is psyched to offer pre-sale tickets for Stillborn Fest to its fans at low-service fees for this event. The band is offering two ticket choices for the pre-sale.

Therion Issue Tour Wrap Up

THERION have posted the following update:

"We're back in Europe and besides Kiev that will be the last show on this tour, we're pretty much done. Some words for our fans:

Latin America: Thank you for being even more amazing than ever! We also made a new record here; we pulled almost 5,000 people in Quito, Ecuador, which is the biggest amount Therion ever pulled as a headliner so far. Next tour we can bring with us full European stage production.

Japan: It took us 20 years to finally get over there and wow... it's been worth every second of waiting! The response we received was simply beyond our imagination and as for the country itself, each and everyone of us simply LOVED your incredible country. The very polite manners, the rich culture, the good traditions, the dicipline (never seen a more well organized festival!) etc etc etc. Seems like our performance there opened up for future possibilities for the band and it's for sure not the last time we saw The Land Of The Rising Sun!

USA/Canada: Despite the somewhat dissapointing turn up for the shows, we indeed have some positive words. We sincerely want to thank everyone that showed up and supported the band and in perticular you people who travelled far and/or went to several shows. The crowds there really kicks ass in 4 of 5 shows, there were between 130 - 420 paying people showing up, but each show felt like there were much more thanx to your wild enthusiasm and rockin' hard approach!"

Prong Post 'The Banishment' Video Online

PRONG's video for the song "The Banishment" can be viewed here. The track comes off the group's latest CD, "Power of the Damager", which sold 1,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release. According to a press release, the album "maintains the razor-sharp signature riffs band founder Tommy Victor has perfected over the last 20 years while harkening back to the rawness of PRONG's pioneering years as industrial metal's native son. Most notable is the record's in-your-face production, which came courtesy of Victor himself."

Joining Victor in the PRONG trio is bassist Monte Pittman, a PRONG veteran who does double-duty as tour guitarist for none other than MADONNA, and drummer Aaron Rossi.

"Power of the Damager" is PRONG's first release for MINISTRY mainman Al Jourgensen's 13th Planet Records, a relationship that was kindled while Victor played with Jourgensen in MINISTRY. More...
