AC/DC Goes Triple Platinum In Australia

Paul Cashmere from Undercover.com.au is reporting:

AC/DC's Black Ice album has held its number 2 spot in Australia this week but in the UK it has dropped from 3 to 9.

In the third full week on sale in Australia, AC/DC sold a further 22,950 units to bring its tally to 147,157 sales and take it past the 2x Platinum sales benchmark.

It should be noted that record companies certify Platinum for sales shipped to stores, not sales bought by the public, so according to the ARIA chart Black Ice is certified 3x platinum already.

He says, "It is a shame. I was proud of it."

Exodus Guitarist Gary Holt Slams Rick Rubin

Exodus guitarist Gary Holt recently took part in the "Call & Response" section of Decibel magazine where artists give their opinions on songs from heavy metal artists and beyond. When faced with "My Apocalypse" by Metallica, here's what he had to say:

"There are some killer riffs on this one; nice to hear them rediscover that tempos can be fast sometimes. Much better than any of the last three (albums) for sure. But Rick Rubin is a monumental hack. He has killed the production of the record for me. I was really expecting James to throw down the "...And Justice For All" crunch, totally crushing guitars, but these are not heavy at all. If all they were looking for in a producer was 'guidance,' I would have told them all they need to know for dinner and a beer: 'Go back, listen to your legendary records, listen to your Diamond Head records and then gather in a room together and make a metal record.' I would have given them this advice for free- much cheaper than Rubin! But it's growing on me. I still dig it, just not the sound of it. Andy Sneap would have made this a monster. And thank Satan Kirk is soloing again! The world needs him to shred!"

Paul Di'Anno Compares His Band With Iron Maiden

In a recent interview with Rockinnet.com, singer Paul Di'anno was asked what he thought of Iron Maiden in todays world and what performing means to him. An excerpt from the chat is as follows:

Rockonnet.com: What do you think about Iron Maiden (these days)?
Di'Anno: "Who cares!!"

Rockonnet.com: You rock more?
Di'Anno: "I think we do, yeah. We’re not here for money making. We play for very little money nowadays. I mean, we don’t need the money. I mean we sold; well I sold about 30 million records. So I don’t really care – It’s not about the money. We just love to play."

Rockonnet.com: Where do you have the biggest fan base in the world?
Di'Anno: "Well, we have been concerting Europe at the moment, but I would obviously say Brazil and United States. But Europe is fantastic because we did the Wacken festival three years ago - 45,000 people going absolutely nuts. We did Sweden Rock (recently). Fucking 100,000 people going absolutely crazy. It’s great. We win them over (the fans) where ever we go. I think what it is…not because we are great musicians and stuff like that. I think it’s because we are just normal people. You know. I think the audience, the fans and kids that come to see us understand that we are just a bunch of idiots that go out there and have fun. That’s what it’s about, really. It doesn’t really matter I mean. I’ve sold (lots of) records. It ain’t the money. It never has been and never will be. I’d play for hamburger and beer at the end of the day because I love to play. So that’s what it’s all about for me."

Diecast Parts Ways With Century Media

Boston metallers Diecast has posted the following message online:

"It's time for a well needed update from us. First of all, we'd like to announce that we are no longer on Century Media Records. We would like to thank CM for everything they did for us and wish them well in all future endeavours.

"Earlier this summer we funded and recorded a four-song demo with our long time producer Paul Trust, and we are currently shopping it to labels. We've already been contacted by a few labels that are very impressed with the songs and we believe we'll have a new home before the end of March 2009, and you all know what that means??? Yes, new album and touring!

"We'd like to thank you all for the great comments we've been getting on song 'Disconnect'. We'd also like to remind you that it's a demo and not a final version. The song has already been getting lots of radio play from KWRN in Farmington, NM!

Ascension Of The Watchers Cancels European Tour

Ascension Of The Watchers, the band featuring Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell has posted the following message online.

"My dear friends, it is with great sadness that I inform all of you that the Ascension Of The Watchers tour that was scheduled for November 27 - December 13 had to be cancelled due to the lack of ticket pre-sales.

Megadeth Guitarist Chris Broderick Checks In

Megadeth guitarist Chris Broderick (formerly of Nevermore and Jag Panzer) has checked in with the following message:

"It’s been awhile but I’m sure you know that I am not the most prolific when it comes to posting. I wanted to catch everyone up with what I have been up to the past few months. Well first of all I have been practising (as usual) trying to keep my technique improving and writing new riffs and pieces. While I had the summer pretty much free I took the opportunity to vacation for a week on a houseboat in Lake Powell (It was definitely needed). The week was filled with wakeboarding, Jet skiing, hiking, and good friends. More recently my girlfriend and I threw a Halloween party. I dressed up as a psychotic clown and looked pretty stupid Ahahahah. Between all of this of course I have been heading down to Vic’s Garage, getting the studio up and running and starting the writing process with Dave, James and Shawn. At any rate I am looking forward to getting back out on tour and meeting more of you.

"PS in case it’s not painfully obvious, I am horrible at wakeboarding, but I thought it would be funny and this is why I play guitar for a living Ahahahhaa."
