Hatesphere Finishes New Album

Danish metallers Hatesphere have issued the following statement:

"After months of negotiating we are finally able to announce, that our future home is now with Austria's powerhouse label, Napalm Records.

"This year has been really hectic for us - in a good way - and the great changes we've been going through made us push each other to perform at our very best. Sure there's been times where a sense of uncertainty has been hanging closely over our heads, but when it all came down we worked hard at what we do best and kept focus on the music.

"However, with that being said we still needed a new record label and in the end Napalm won us over with their integrity, hard work and a welcoming honest approach.

"After an intense 9 days in the studio with illustrious Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Moonspell, Dark Tranquillity, Gorefest) We ended up recording 10 songs for what will be a head on collision with your speakers, early next year. More info on song titles, cover artwork, release dates and other surprises is to be revealed soon.

"Our song 'Let them Hate' off of our latest album 'Serpent Smiles And Killer Eyes' is featured in the new Danish motion picture 'Lille soldat' in theatres now."

Chinese Government Speaks On Guns N Roses Album

A Chinese newspaper entitled, "The Global Times," which is run by the ruling Communist party has run an article expressing disgust with Guns N Roses for the title track of their new album, "Chinese Democracy." In an article Monday headlined "American band releases album venomously attacking China," the Global Times said unidentified Chinese Internet users had described the album as part of a plot by some in the West to "grasp and control the world using democracy as a pawn."

The album "turns its spear point on China," the article said.

China's Foreign Ministry did not respond to faxed questions about the article, although a spokesman speaking on routine condition of anonymity said: "We don't need to comment on that." More...

Velvet Revolver Asked To Leave RCA Records

Reports are beginning to surface that Velvet Revolver, the supergroup which featured former Guns N Roses members Slash, Duff McKagen and Matt Sorum aswell as Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland, asked for their release from RCA Records. This way, they felt they would be under less pressure to find a new vocalist who could suitably replace Weiland.

Carl Stubner, the band's manager, says: "We're incredibly grateful to RCA and Ashley Newton for their passion and hard work and for the success they achieved with Velvet Revolver through the band's first two records. The band is thankful that RCA understood the task at hand and has allowed the band to continue on their own."

Stubner added: "This band is comprised of some of the greatest rock musicians of the past three decades. They have built a brand with a solid foundation on a global level. And their sole focus has been, and continues to be, finding the singer/songwriter who will stand alongside them."

Dark Funeral Obtains Rights To Back-Catalogue

Swedish black metallers DARK FUNERAL have obtained the rights to their back catalogue (including the publishing rights) — "The Secrets Of The Black Arts" (1996), "Vobiscum Satanas" (1998), "Teach Children To Worship Satan" (2000) and "Diabolis Interium" (2001) — following a lengthy legal battle with their previous record label, MNW/No Fashion Records.

Commented guitarist Lord Ahriman (real name: Micke Svanberg): "From now on, NO one but Caligula [vocalist Emperor Magus Caligula, a.k.a. Masse Broberg] and I own the rights to above-mentioned albums.

"One may believe I/we would be totally thrilled about this, be running around in pentagrams, throwing bibles in a fire and whatnot, but I honestly feel pretty empty. Guess it'll take a while to let it all sunk in to realize that this battle finally is over, after seven fucking years! I'm sure I'll get it all eventually…and celebrate it one way or another. But right now I feel nothing.

"Anyway, somehow I feel that this is already old news, an old chapter in our dark saga. And I won't spend any more of my valuable time to ever put 'their' name in my mouth again. So let us just put this behind us immediately. Let us now focus on gathering some new energy, look at the future — a future without label hassles and such utterly bullshit. It's time to set full course to complete the new album, booking new tours among many other grand things, which I know many of you are waiting for. Basically, let's get busy again, and foremost, enjoy being busy again!" More...

Gojira Drummer Posts Tour Report

Gojira drummer Mario Duplantier recently spoke with Radio France International, during which he described the bands first show in North America: "We arrived in Montreal where we had a great and warm welcome, just as usual, we noticed that the people from Quebec seem to like French bands in general. This first show at Metropolis was sold out and people were very enthusiastc and wild during our show, we felt somewhat overwhelmed by the crowd's energy... that was awesome! We really need to go back there for a headlining show next time!”

He added: “Our set-list is pretty different from when we play in Europe, we are openers here. So we just play 35 minutes every night and that's a little bit frustrating with 4 albums of songs to choose from. We try to strike a balance between the more accessible tracks and the more violent ones, also, when we only have such a short playing time, we're just trying to be efficient and straight to the point.”

Amoral Announces New Vocalist, Ari Koivunen

Finnish heavy metal act Amoral has posted the following message online:

"Amoral is a five-piece again! Since the announcement of Niko leaving we've received tons of applications from singers all over the world. As we mentioned earlier, we wanted to find a guy who was not only able to handle the growling of the old songs, but who also had a strong melodic voice. Well, little did we know that we'd end up with one of the most talented vocalists around! Ari's (Koivunen) merits as a singer are well known (at least here in Finland), but it might surprise a lot of people that the dude can also growl with the best of them! And the fact remains that he truly was the strongest candidate from all those who applied for the job.

"Being the sneaky bastards that we are, we have been writing and practising hard for a long while now while keeping low profile, and we're happy to announce that the material for the fourth Amoral album is just about ready! The recording will start next month and will go on through January. The album should be out before the summer. Of course, we'll keep you guys posted.

"Now, before some of you old-school Amoral maniacs condemn us to hell: No, we're not going power metal on your asses. The trademark riffs are still there. The little quirkiness. The "fuck everybody" attitude. And most importantly, the songs are just as strong as you've come to expect from us. Stronger, actually. You could clearly see on Reptile Ride already that we were eager to push our music to a more melodic direction, and the next natural step was to go all the way with the vocals. This is a new beginning for us, and we truly believe our best work is still ahead of us."

Surviving Members Of Meldrum Completes New Album

Meldrum drummer Gene Hoglan has announced that Meldrum has completed work on their new studio album, which will be entitled, "Lifer." The album will serve as a tribute to band founder Michelle Meldrum who passed away earlier this year.

"Let me say this: Never have I obsessed over the recording of any album I've been involved in as I have with Meldrum's latest,” explains Hoglan. “The tragic circumstances that took Michelle from us, also provided us with a laser-sharp focus to record the most amazing album we could. Michele Madden, Laura Christine, and hell, even Chicken, our engineer, put forth performances of a lifetime, with each member's full love and respect going into every nuance of every song. Not only to honor Michelle, but to also lay down some badass music, which was ultimately what she stood for…what Meldrum stands for. I think the songs speak for themselves, and I, for one, have never been prouder to be a part of a family, let alone a project such as this. Metal with balls. Crank it up, indeed.”

Benediction Posts Damnation Festival Report

British death metal act Benediction has posted the following message online:

"Damnation... Fucking Hell!

"What else can we say?

"We had a fucking great day. Met up with a lot of old friends in the other bands and made a few new ones too. Without a single doubt though the top honours have to go to the crowds who made every band that played feel like the headline act. A credit to the metal scene, well chuffed. We did not expect the reaction we got when we walked on stage and it will stay with us for a long time. Thanks for the carnage. It was a fitting end to our tour to watch the mayhem unfold as we played. The world now knows that The UK has an extreme metal fest to match and better any other one about. Finally a big thank you to Gav and the rest of the Damnation organisers for keeping their promise and getting Benediction and our crew completely drunk. A job well done!"

Deicide Cancels Central American Shows

Deicide frontman Glen Benton has posted the following message online:

"This morning we went to the airport in Honduras and the fine folks at Taca Airlines gave our tickets away to other people, and when we tried to change the tickets and make the remaining shows, there were no other flights available to get us to El Salvador, and the promoter expected us to drive across countries, through document and border checks and with no guarantee of safe return. And, because our agent didn't give us any contact info or contracts for the promoters down there, or answer his phone (we called 100 times with no answer), we were forced to come back to the States, completely because of the way this Central American run was mishandled by the promoter in Central America and the agent. We had no choice but to come back or get stuck there without flights.

"We are in touch with our evil attorney and I can assure you someone will pay for the fucking we got and the fans got, with my and Deicide's sincerest apologies, but it was completely out of our hands…thank the unprofessional job of the agents involved and Taca Airlines, especially the supervisor of Taca Airlines in the Honduras airport… and to the local promoter in Honduras who fucked us last night, the fans there can thank you for Deicide never playing your country again...unless your so-called 'concert promoters' get their heads out of their asses in a big way.

"I want to make clear that not only did we get screwed by shoddy planning, but the real losers here are our fans who were looking forward to seeing us play as much as we were looking forward to doing the shows – we know how crazed Central and South American fans are for a brutal Deicide show, and the fans got fucked. We try very hard to keep all our commitments, and you know we take care of our fans. I wish this had turned out differently, but the matter was unfortunately out of our hands. Keep it fucking evil as always."
