Satariel Reveal Tentative New Album Track Listing

Swedish metallers SATARIEL have set "White Ink" as the title of their new full-length album. The CD, which will will likely feature ten new songs, "will continue in the sound of [the band's mini-CD] 'Chifra', which was released earlier this year, but probably will have a little more aggressivity and 'evil' added to it this time, as the lyrics pretty much demand that this time around," the band writes in a press release. "Also — a new songwriter is now found in SATARIEL — namely [guitarist] Simon Johansson (of MEMORY GARDEN) who replaces Mikael Granqvist. This will surely add a new aspect to the sound, as he is a great composer!"

"White Ink" projected track listing (not final sequence):

01. Die Letzten Tage
02. What Never (Came)
03. First Fly of April
04. White Ink
05. The Pendulum
06. Harken, O Shadows
07. Rise of the Black Titan

J2 Signs To The End Records

The End Records has signed the new project entitled J2, featuring enigmatic singer/songwriter/performer Jarboe and Justin Broadrick, frontman for ambient/progressive noise project Jesu.

Jarboe is known for her 14 years work with the legendary NYC East Village ArtRock band Swans, as well as her recent musical collaborations with such bands as Jesu, Neurosis and A Perfect Circle. Broadrick, who joined pioneering U.K. grind band Napalm Death at the age of 15, formed the influential metal/industrial act Godlflesh in the late-80s and in 2003 started up his current band Jesu.

Senseless Beauty On Recording And Touring Plans

Mason City-based Christian metalcore band Senseless Beauty plan to record their first full-length CD in the spring and tour in the summer when school lets out. They are in the process of writing for their new CD, which will be titled "Thoughts of Wolves."

The band includes Ryan Thul (bass), Wil Cooper (guitar), Mike Fallis (drums), and brothers Shven (vocals) and Phil (guitar) Biermann. All but the Biermanns are still in high school.

Fallis, the youngest at age 16, will played his final show with the band last Friday at the American Legion in Mason City.

"I'd say he's one of the best (drummers) I've ever seen," Shven Biermann said of Fallis. "People just gush about him."

"We wish him the best, and thank him so much," Phil Biermann added.

Isaac Ingersoll, 21, a skilled drummer and friend of the band, will take his place.

The band on their sound, described as melodic metalcore:

"The genre is usually very cliche and lots of people sound a lot alike," Shven said. "We like to break the mold and try something a little different."

"As for our style, it's brutal, it's angry. But usually our genre of music (metal) is very dark and dreary. We like to inject hope into each of our songs."

On being a Christian band:

"It's interesting, though, because we are a ministry and we do metal music, we're attacked by both," Shven said. "It's a hostile environment going in. But other Christians are hostile towards it as well. It's really a calling." Shven said they take the ministry side of their music seriously. "There are people out there that need help. We like to be there."

Shven added that it's something that's close to his heart. "When I was in high school, I went through a severe depression after my friend was killed in an accident, and not a whole lot of people reached out to me."

Senseless Beauty recorded an EP, "If I Were To Be Honest," in January, 2006, and booked a tour shortly afterward. Following their 2007 East Coast tour with Burden of a Day (Rise Records) and Remove the Veil, they were signed to Redemptive Records of Massachusetts. They have also been featured on RadioU HXC, an online radio station, where they were in the Top Ten.

Dave Mustaine: I Don't Talk A Lot Onstage

Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine spoke with Australia's Time Off magazine about what fans down under can expect, and what not to expect, from the veteran band's live set in support of 'United Abominations'. "There's going to be four songs off the new record, and we're going to play for about an hour and a half," Mustaine explained. "I don't talk a lot during the set, so it's almost like and hour and 45 minutes, for other people. I think it's unnecessary to talk a lot live onstage, unless you're Henry Rollins. I'm not, I get a little shy. I could be telling the greatest story and someone will yell something out and I'll be like, 'Oh my God, you ruined my story, you made my brain short out'. And I'll have to say something like, (puts on a tough guy voice) 'I'm going to kill you!' to cover up the fact that you've broken my train of thought and I don't know what I'm saying anymore."

Korn Confirms New Touring Guitarist

The Pulse of Radio reports: KORN frontman Jonathan Davis confirmed before his solo show in New York City on Tuesday night (November 13) that the guitarist in his backing band, Shane Gibson, will also join KORN as its touring guitarist for the group's upcoming European trek. Davis told The Pulse of Radio that not only is Gibson a great guitarist, but he reminds Davis of original KORN axeman Brian "Head" Welch. "Amazing shredder, can just do the most crazy, crazy, crazy stuff," he said. "And he really, really reminds me of Head. Not in his playing, more about just his presence and how he's so introverted and how he walks across the room and just everything seems to fall over. And it's kind of cool to have that energy back 'cause I miss that so much, 'cause I miss Head so much."

Gibson will take over for guitarist Clint Lowery, who toured with KORN throughout 2007 but left last month due to family issues.

Gibson will be joined on KORN's early 2008 trip to Europe by touring drummer Ray Luzier, formerly of the DAVID LEE ROTH band and ARMY OF ANYONE. Luzier takes over for Joey Jordison, who has also been touring with KORN but is now regrouping with SLIPKNOT to begin work on that group's next effort.

Davis kicked off his first-ever solo tour last week and plays Friday night (November 16) in Philadelphia.

Queens of the Stone Age Thrown Out of Rehab

The Pulse of Radio reports: QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE were reportedly thrown out of a rehab clinic last week just one song into a performance, according to NME.com. The band accepted an invitation to play a six-song concert for patients at an unnamed California facility, but their set was abruptly cut short during the opening number and the group members were forcibly removed from the building by security guards. The song that the QUEENS opened with? "Feel Good Hit of the Summer", which consists of one line repeated over and over again: "Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, marijuana, Ecstasy and alcohol...c-c-c-c-c-cocaine."

Staff members at the clinic were reportedly unamused and refused to do anything but eject the band.

Ironically, the Colorado Police Department uses the song in instructional videos about drunk driving.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE perform in Dortmund, Germany on Friday night (November 16) and will remain in Europe until early December. The band returns home for five West Coast shows in the middle of next month as it continues promoting its latest CD, "Era Vulgaris".

Paroxysm Seek New Drummer

Québec's Prodisk have issued the following update:

"PAROXYSM is currently looking for an experienced drummer, able to play brutal and somewhat technical death metal (that is, songs from their first album Revelation Is Denied and their latest Scars Of The Art)."

"The ideal candidate must own his drums, must be mature and creative (they'll be writing new songs shortly), must be able to combine "blast beats", "double bass drums" techniques and proceed to multiple changes in tempo. He must be able to contribute to the band's financial liabilities (rehearsal space, etc.). Also, being able to communicate in French with band-mates is an asset, but not primordial."

"They rehearse at La Cité 2000 (2000 Notre-Dame / corner Papineau) in Montréal, mostly on Monday and Thursday nights. If interested, please contact them on MySpace or at info@paroxysm.ca."

Disturbed Frontman Talks New Album

In a brand new interview with LiveDaily.com, DISTURBED frontman David Draiman explained he is at a loss as to why his band has weathered the music industry storm and remained a viable act. But he has a few ideas.

"I think we're fortunate enough that we've been able to deliver what people expect from us," Draiman said. "I guess that's what it comes down to. Our fans know whenever a DISTURBED record comes out, there's certain things that they're going to be looking for from us, which they get. They'll be able to put the thing in their car and be able to listen to it front to back without having to jog around and pick specific tracks. They always know they can get that from us. As long as we continue to provide that to them, I think they'll stay loyal."

Regarding the direction for the group's forthcoming 2008 album, Draiman said it's "darker, a little faster paced, more complex, heavier. It definitely isn't neglecting those melodic aspects that the 'Believe' and '10,000 Fists' records brought more out of. But it's also going back to that place — that primal sort of place — that was much more like [the album] 'The Sickness'."

According to Draiman, the harder, more primal edge was inspired by two years of bad luck, which includes a fire in the garage housing his vehicle collection and a motorcycle accident during which he injured his arm. However, DISTURBED isn't down, therefore, it is tentatively naming its album "Indestructible".

"There's a number of meanings [for the title]. As a band, we are still around and still doing business and still a force. We're one of the last hard rock bands out there that still is able to maintain the level of success that we're lucky enough to be able to maintain. That's also one of the aspects of the 'Indestructible' [title]. The title track in and of itself was written sort of like a battle cry for soldiers, if you will."

Tool Frontman Talks Illegal Downloading

During an interview with Australia's Beat magazine, Maynard James Keenan of TOOL, A PERFECT CIRCLE and PUSCIFER sounded off on illegal downloading, but not for selfish reasons. "I acknowledge I am one of the winners of the lottery," Keenan tells Nick Snelling. "Around the time NIRVANA came out, labels were out there looking for something different. TOOL got lucky, we got a record deal, but we were also smart and planned to do as much as we could to take advantage of it. But there's a lot of young bands out there where that $1000 in record sales could be the difference in them going on the road or recording their next record or not, you know? So kids out there need to understand that if they dig a band's music, then they have to find some way to get compensation to that band for their art so that they can ensure the band can keep making it." But looking out for the little guy isn't an endorsement to download Keenan's own material for nothing. "I can't do this for free," he said. "It's ridiculous and insulting."

Recently, the singer was quoted in Rolling Stone, where he said: "Heavy rock is sinking" and the PUSCIFER project was his way of stepping away from it and deliberately trying to make a "fun project." Does he still feel like that? "Yes. It has stagnated, it's no longer moving anywhere,' he says bluntly, speaking of the genre. "Part of it is large labels signing stuff they think is easy and a quick buck, but I also think it's the bands who aren't evolving their ideas or stretching their legs musically. And the ones that are, you don't hear about — they're overlooked 'cos they're not moving units. The independent stuff is out there, bubbling underneath, but no one's giving it a chance 'cos they're all scrabbling for the next LINKIN PARK or BACKSTREET BOYS-style band."

He gives a small snort. "I just think it's one-dimensional, I'm sorry. Or maybe, that really is the best that they can do!"

Speaking of lowest common denominators, was the singer gutted over the farcical decision to award the Grammy to WOLFMOTHER (and their derivative single "Woman") over TOOL for "Best Hard Rock Performance"? "Well, you and I both know exactly where that song came from," he laughs. "But never mind all that, because it was a catchy feel-good song, which is kind what we all need right now. Forget the depth of it. If rock is dead, and nobody knows where to go and they're not moving forward, what else are they gonna do except go back and look at stuff that's been done. They want to rekindle that feeling you got when you first heard soul-inspiring rock."

Ex Megadeth Bassist Talks Possible Reunion

The Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp Podcast sat down last week with former MEGADETH and current F5 bassist David Ellefson, who talked about his experience at camp, his current projects, how he got into and out of MEGADETH, and if he'd ever work with Dave Mustaine again.

On the topic of whether he will ever reunite with Mustaine and his former MEGADETH bandmates, Ellefson said, "Dave and I have met — about two years ago, it was. He had reached out to me and I gladly reciprocated and we met and we had dinner and buried the hatchets. There was a lot of legal unhinging with our business stuff together and that's, to some degree… He and I will always be in business sort of the way Lennon and McCartney are always in business because we have a… sort of like we raised some kids — we've got albums, we've got work, we've got our songs we composed together — there's all this stuff, and that's gonna be there. And it was nice for he and I to sit down and look each other in the eye and talk without having managers and attorneys and, you know, the entourage and stuff, around. It was nice, because, really, that's how he and I met — he and I met just face-to-face — and it was nice that we got to have a hook-up like that; I'm really happy about that. And I don't know if that means one day we'll ever be in a room with our guitars on again or if it'll just be, like, when we come into each other's town, we call each other and go out to Starbucks and hang out and get caught up about what's happening with the kids, you know what I mean?! [laughs] I don't know what that is. But I think rather than trying to force it, it needs to just sort of happen on its own time. I think any successful reunion that I've seen — whether it's MÖTLEY CRÜE or THE WHO or THE EAGLES, or whoever it is — it seems like the only successful ones happen because everybody… It's almost like enough time has to go by where you're willing to forgive, you're willing to let… it's, like, the time does heal the wounds, and you're able to sort of move past all of that stuff so that you can be in that place that I saw Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend being — which is with a real sort of gratitude and a real zeal for the rock and roll reason they got together in the first place."

F5 — the Phoenix-based band featuring Ellefson, ex-SICK SPEED vocalist Dale Steele, and guitarists Steve Conley and John Davis — has entered the studio to record the follow-up to its 2005 debut, "A Drug for All Seasons". The CD is being produced by Ryan Greene at his Crush Recording facility in Scottsdale, Arizona.

F5 called in Ellefson's longtime rhythm section cohort Jimmy DeGrasso to play drums on the album following the recent departure of original F5 drummer Dave Small.

"This looks to be a very musically invigorating record", said Ellefson. "No doubt there will be hints of F5's past sound on the disc but these new songs are definitely developing in a much more progressive direction."

A spring 2008 release via Oarfin Distribution is expected.

"A Drug for all Seasons" was released in North America in September 2005 via Cleopatra Records. The original version of "A Drug for all Seasons" is also available in Asia on JVC Victor Entertainment and in Europe on Mascot Records.

Ernie Carletti, however, testified he did not have a gun and he did not rape the woman.

"Maybe I wasn't thinking clearly," Carletti said about pulling the woman into his car May 22, 2003, then shackling her arms and legs and duct taping her eyes shut. "It was just part of the effect. I didn't say she wanted it, but she did not deny it."

Carletti, who is charged with rape, kidnapping and possession of a deadly weapon during a felony, testified in Superior Court in Wilmington, Delaware. He was calm throughout his 30-minute testimony.

Carletti — who joined ICED EARTH in June 2006 and didn't appear on any of the band's recordings or perform with the group before his September 2006 arrest — said he was driving to his Elkton, Md., home through Newark about 1:30 a.m. when he saw the woman at the South Chapel Street Burger King. Carletti testified the two started talking. When she approached the driver side of his car, Carletti said he pulled her into the vehicle.

The victim has testified that he had a gun, which he denied in court today.

As he drove off, he asked the woman: "Mind if I handcuff you?"

"I'm not saying it was courtship, but it is something we discussed," he said.

After handcuffing her, Carletti said he shackled her legs and put duct tape over her eyes and drove to his home.

When asked why he would blindfold her, Carletti said it was done for "effect."

Carletti said he then escorted the woman into his house and sat her on a couch, where there was a "little bit of talking, a little bit of caressing, a little bit of kissing."

Prosecutor Donald R. Roberts asked if she kissed him back, to which Carletti said he only kissed her on the cheek.

After admiring her in that position, Carletti said he gagged her mouth, placed her on a table and hogtied her. But he said he did not hoist her off the ground as she has testified.

He said he released her from this position after 3 to 4 minutes because she signified she was uncomfortable.

When asked if he thought being hogtied was painful, Carletti said he has previously been in that position and disagreed it hurt.

"No. Actually it is not painful," he said.

Guitarist Stacey Connolly Rejoins Acheron

Ohio-based black/death metal band ACHERON has welcomed back guitarist Stacey Connolly into its unholy fold for some live performances. Connolly has agreed to fill the second guitarist slot for several shows and appear on the upcoming ACHERON live DVD. According to the bandmembers, Stacey "is working out very well and it is great working with him again." But this is not a permanent position, since Stacey lives in West Virginia and already plays in the band LIFE IS LOST.

Commented band founder Vincent Crowley: "Stacey never left the band on bad terms and we have continued to be friends even after he left. We asked him to do us a favor by filling in and he agreed. It was much easier to go this route, since he already knew many of the songs we were doing. Much better than teaching a new guitarist a whole fucking set worth of stuff. Not to mention he put time into the band in the past, so having him appear on the upcoming live DVD just seemed like the right thing."

ACHERON's current touring lineup:

Vincent Crowley (Vocals and Bass)
Kyle Severn (Drums)
Max Oxworth (Guitar)
Stacey Connolly (Guitar)

Helcaraxe To Release New Mini-CD

New Jersey-based death metallers HELCARAXE will release their new mini-CD, "No God To Save You", later this month via Australia's Wolfs Moon Recordings. The follow-up to "Triumph & Revenge" (Regimental Records) contains "nearly 30 minutes of crushing, barbarous death metal," according to a press release.

Formed in 2003 by members of the black metal band OPEN GRAVE, HELCARAXE's brand of unconvential, complex, and atmospheric death metal has taken the metal world by surprise. Often compared to AMON AMARTH, old AMORPHIS and UNLEASHED, HELCARAXE has quickly become a favorite amongst the hordes of true death metal fanatics.

A track from the upcoming mini-CD, "Chain Mail", can be heard at this location.
