Scald To Release 'Fluke' Mini-CD In December

Irish metal band SCALD will release its new mini-album, "Fluke", in December via the Belfast-based record label Midhir Records. According to a press release, the CD will be released in "a specially designed digi-folder with artwork by Unhinged Art, depicting the relationship between the actions of the Catholic Church and its priests and those of a parasitic flukeworm."

Jon of Midhir Records says that "while the inclusion of the Eucharist could be seen as offensive, the concept was to create more than just a listening experience with 'Fluke'. This is a completely unique release."

Originally due for release in July, "Fluke" has been cursed with bad luck and controversy since it went to press.

The promotional video for the track "Larva", which appears on "Fluke", can be viewed here.

Throwdown Post “Holy Roller” Video Online

Headbanger's Blog has uploaded THROWDOWN's video for the song "Holy Roller". The clip, which was directed by Andy Reale, can be viewed here. (Note: Video stream is **NOT** available to non-U.S. residents.)

According to a press release, the video is full of performance footage combined with images of snakes and torture, and the band was pleased with Reale's interpretation of the song. Vocalist Dave Peters says, "Andy did an exceptional job of reading in between the lines of the lyrics and meaning of the song and translating it into visuals centered around a really imaginative storyline. 'Holy Roller', in particular, is a song that we don't want taken for face value, so it was very important to us that the images for it were just as accurate as they were powerful. The song speaks to the nature of hypocrites and their proclivity toward punishing the rest of the world for their own skeletons and insecurities. It's a hostile song with a lot of energy; Andy's shots and editing lended itself real well to that." Drummer Ben Dussault added, "Even though snakes are pretty cliché right now... they just look so brutal in the right video! PS. no animals/insects/critters were harmed during this process, just band dudes! Enjoy." More...

Satyricon Drummer Breaks Leg

Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON have issued the following update:

"It is with deep regret we have to inform you that Frost (drums) broke his leg yesterday morning. As a result of this, our headlining performance at Arnhem Metal Meeting has been cancelled. It was a freak accident where he simply slipped on ice and snow covered surface, fell to the ground with his foot in a twisted position, and broke it. This was obviously very bad news given our scheduled show at Arnhem Metal Meeting this coming Saturday (December 1st). However, with Frost's history of actually playing ten shows in a row on our European Tour in 2003 with a broken foot, we were hoping he could pull this one off as well. Doctors said last night they wanted to keep him at the hospital over night for observation and we agreed on making a decision as to whether he could do the show, today. Unfortunately we have been informed today that his brake is so complicated that it needs surgery which will take place shortly. They intend to keep him hospitalized for at least one week. Perhaps two.

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes to our fans and the festival. As Satyricon is also in the midst of rehearsing a new album, we will to have take an unwanted break from that. We will reorganize and put our attention into other parts of the album-making process to ensure no delays. Have a great festival and join us in wishing Frost a speedy recovery."

After a storming set at London's Brixton Academy supporting US metallers KILLSWITCH ENGAGE last month, SSS will be sure to bring their own dose of energy, chaos and all out hardcore thrashing madness to the proceedings.

Lamb Of God Bassist Talks "Sacrement" Re-release

Virginia Baker of The News Record recently spoke to LAMB OF GOD bassist John Campbell about the upcoming re-release of the band's latest album, "Sacrament".

"Sacrament", which first hit shelves in August 2006, will be reissued on December 4 as a "deluxe package" with a very special bonus disc, just in time for the holidays.

The bonus disc holds all of the songs from the "Sacrament" album, broken down into bare tracking. With this type of configuration, the fan will be able to mix and produce his or her own version of "Sacrament".

"I haven't seen the final piece, but from what I understand, everything is separated," said Campbell. "You won't be able to change things like kick drum, but the drums are on their own, vocals are on their own, back-up vocals are on their own. You can mix them or replace them with your own."

In essence, any song from the album can be completely redone, or a completely new song can be created. One can load each song onto a computer. The user then applies his creative producing skills to create the sound of his or her choice. Take the bass line from one track, add it to the back up vocals of another, throw in your own drum line, and voilà, you are a music producer. The disc is promised to be compatible with both Mac and PC systems, therefore making it easy for all to use.

The idea of a fan-produced album was brought to Campbell during the band's last tour.

"About two to three weeks ago, it was brought to me by Chris [Alder], our drummer," Campbell said. "It could have been his idea or the idea of the record company, I'm not sure. I think some other people may have done this by releasing one track online and breaking it up like that. I thought it was a great idea."

Former 3 Inches Of Blood Drummer Apologizes

Former 3 INCHES OF BLOOD drummer Alexei Rodriguez has issued an "open letter of apology" regarding an incident that occurred earlier in the month at the Hard Rock Hell festival in Minehead, UK which left SAXON drummer Nigel Glockler with broken glasses and a black eye.

Nigel previously stated about the episode: "There was no party, no-one was hitting on anyone, it was a totally unprovoked and vicious attack on me in the doorway of the apartment as I opened the door to the guy [Alexei] who was obviously out of it and was trying to bust said door down — for what reason, I have no idea. I wanted to ask him what his problem was and he just smashed me in the face and dragged me out onto the entrance balcony with such force that I went flying into the railings, hoping that they wouldn't give way and send me over the edge. As I went to get up, he punched me some more and then proceeded to to kick me in the face, head and body as I lay on the floor — then he ran off as the security guys arrived, and that was it, pure and simple."

Rodriguez's "open letter" reads as follows:

"To my friends, fans, and the greater metal/musical communities at large;

"It is with a significant degree of humility that I write to express my sincere regret at the events in Minehead during this year's Hard Rock Hell festival in England. I in no way am writing this in an attempt to exonerate myself from the blame of having instigated a truly ugly situation, merely to let any who care to know where exactly it is that I stand after said fiasco, and to of course apologize to any and all who were hurt, disappointed, or put out in any way.

"I have already issued lengthy and sincere apologies to those most directly affected, and while it is those folks' prerogative if they care to make those statements public, they were indeed only intended for their original recipients: Nigel Glockler, and the members and management of 3 INCHES OF BLOOD. Of course the band was embarrassed and did whatever damage control had to be done by expelling me, and to a certain degree the security guards that evening were also doing what they felt had to be done to contain an explosive situation, and for them I would hold no ill will. In fact, Nigel accepted my apology and correspondence with an astonishing degree of forgiveness and compassion, and I should be so lucky as to henceforth be able to refer to him as a friend, however backward the circumstances of our meeting. I wish him, his lovely girlfriend Gina, and SAXON nothing but the best in their lives, both musical and personal. I only hope that everyone else can be as non-vindictive and adult about the whole mess. (PS, don't bother him anymore; he's expressed quite clearly that he wishes not to discuss it further.)

"I can say with the gravest sincerity that I have NO desire to engage in anything remotely resembling that sort of (self-)destructive behaviour ever again, and that for my part, I'm doing everything I can to both make it right, and to quell whatever it is within me that caused me to behave in such a manner so that it NEVER happens again. Already I feel as if during my down time I've been able to make great initial strides in that direction. I can only hope that those of you that matter to me, both personally and professionally, would be so generous as to give me the benefit of the doubt, but I ask for nothing, and thus expect nothing.

"Thank you to all the friends, old and new, who've come out of the woodwork to stand by me, rather than engage in the juvenile sideline tabloid-style commentary of the quick-to-judge; I owe you my sanity, and my newfound optimism, to say the least. I hope to see you on the road soon."

Rage Announce New Album Release Date

German power metallers RAGE will release their new album, "Carved in Stone", in Europe on February 22, 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records.

RAGE guitarist Victor Smolski previously stated about the upcoming LP, "From the beginning we decided to compose the songs for this CD more straight, concentrating on cool riffs and catchy melodies. Actually, with our new lineup it was easy to realize everything, as we pulled together with André [Hilgers; drums; AXXIS, SILENT FORCE] perfectly! All the recordings with our co-producer, sound engineer and almost fourth bandmember Charly Czajkowski runs perfectly, as well as the final mix with Charlie Bauerfeind. From my point of view I promise you brutal guitar riffs with fancy soli. In one song, I've hidden a modification of a real famous melody — the one who will first recognize this melody will get a present! At 'Open My Grave', my sitar guitar came into operation, at 'Lord of the Flies', I've contributed a phat keyboard arrangement."

Other ongtitles set to appear on the CD include "Carved in Stone", "Drop Dead", "Gentle Murders", "One Step Ahead" and "Without You".

RAGE's new DVD, entitled "Full Moon in St. Petersburg", was released on February 23 via Nuclear Blast. The double DVD set was filmed in St. Petersburg, Russia last year in front of 15,000 fans. "Full Moon in St. Petersburg" contains the complete concert in St. Petersburg, Russia, plus a lot of behind-the-scenes footage and material from personal archives.

Hail Of Bullets Book February Studio Time

Drummer Ed Warby (GOREFEST) from Dutch death metallers HAIL OF BULLETS has issued the following update:
"The studio's booked! February 2008 will see Hail Of Bullets occupying the renowned Excess studios in Rotterdam to wage some serious war. Although we have enough material to fill two albums we're still writing new stuff. So far we all agree on eight tracks, and since we're going for a ten-track album we still need to decide on the final two. This week I had planned to finish one of two likely candidates but ended up writing a brand new song that everyone seems to like. It's a heavy fucker (well yeah, they all are), with a tank-like groove that segues into a pummelling 'uffta' spectacle. Odds are pretty good you'll be finding this one on our upcoming full length in May. If time allows me and Paul (Baayens - THANATOS) will get together before the end of the year to arrange one of his songs into a grand dramatic finale, and then I'll start preparing Pro Tools sessions for the recordings."

Hail Of Bullets was formed in late 2006 by former PESTILENCE/ASPHYX singer Martin van Drunen, ex-HOUWITSER bass player Theo van Eekelen, Gorefest drummer Ed Warby and both THanatos guitarists Paul Baayens and Stephan Gebédi.

According to a press release, "a mutual love for old school death metal bands like AUTOPSY, BOLT THROWER, MASSACRE, CELTIC FROST and DEATH resulted in the idea to form a band together."

Ozzy And Sharon Osbourne To Host Brit Awards 2008

According to Digitalspy.co.uk, OZZY and Sharon OSBOURNE are to host the Brit Awards next year, it has been announced.

The X Factor judge and the BLACK SABBATH rocker will be in charge of the event's proceedings after last year's presenter Russell Brand was dumped after just one year on the show.

The last time a man and a woman had joint hosting duties at the bash was five years ago when Frank Skinner and Zoe Ball fronted the ceremony.

Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox were the previous male and female hosts before that in 1989, which has gone down as the most shambolic show in the event's history after the pair forgot their lines and Government Minister Kenneth Baker was booed by the audience.
