10 Years Reveal New Album Track Listing

10 YEARS has revealed the track listing for its sophomore effort, "Division", tentatively due on March 4, 2008. The first single from the disc will be "Just Can't Win", while another tune titled "Focus" was co-written with former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and ARMY OF ANYONE guitarist Dean DeLeo. The band began recording the new CD in late June after spending the better part of a year writing, and bassist Lewis Cosby told The Pulse of Radio it wasn't an easy process. "This whole making of this album was a mess, and calling this record 'Division', like, you've got five completely different personalities," he said. "You know, we play in a band and we know each other forwards and backwards but, you know, outside of that, like, we're five completely, completely different people. And, you know, you've got five guys coming in here to make an album, and it's like pulling teeth there for a little while."

"Division" track listing:

01. Actions & Motives
02. Just Can't Win
03. Beautiful
04. Eleven
05. Dying Youth

Within Y Complete New Album Recordings

Swedish melodic death metal band WITHIN Y has finished recording its third album, due in early 2008. "Andy [singer Andreas Solveström] has done the final vocal tracks this weekend," says the group. "We have also recorded some additional guitar melodies. Everything sounds awesome, and we are really pleased with the result so far. We are sure that [producer] Mattias [Wänerstam] will do a great job mixing the tracks!"

WITHIN Y has uploaded the demo version of a new song, entitled "Facing Reality", on its MySpace page. The track is expected to appear on the upcoming CD.

WITHIN Y in April recruited Erik Hagström as the replacement for Thim Blom (ex-GARDENIAN).

Blom left the group in December 2006, claiming that "pain in [his wrists]" made it impossible for him to "perform at the top of [his] abillity and to do what it takes to play at this level."

The Absence Speaks Out About Ex-Drummer

The Absence has issued a statement regarding recent actions purportedly taken by their former drummer, Jeramie Kling. Guitarist Peter Joseph comments:

"Finally! After almost 2 months of childish drama we have regained control of The Absence Myspace from our now ex-drummer, Jeramie Kling. Unfortunately, over that time he has tried his best to destroy our reputation as well as our relationship with our fans by not only posting several bogus press releases and blogs but having the nerve to respond rudely to questions and emails from fans and signing MY name! So please disregard any rude or hurtful responses to any questions as they were from Jeramie out of spite, we apologize.

As many of you are aware we had to drop of the Dying Fetus tour abruptly- the actual reason being the theft of our tour van and trailer by Jeremy, he knows how bad this could hurt us as we are still trying to push the release of our latest record- Riders of the Plague, and we're dead in the water without transportation. We are currently going through all legal actions necessary in order to get back our van and trailer but it is difficult because this caught us off guard as we never thought he would do anything as immature or insane as this.

Do not worry, we will not continue to let any of this affect The Absence, we will continue touring, writing and recording without missing a beat. We will do whatever it takes to continue to bring our music to our fans across America and the world. Stay metal and we'll you see you all soon."

Anvil Documentary To Premiere At Sundance

According to Variety.com, "Anvil! The True Story of Anvil", a mockumentary-like true account of fiftysomething Canadian heavy-metal practitioners Robb Reiner and Steve "Lips" Kudlow who, after a desultory European tour with their band ANVIL, decide to record a 13th album in a final attempt to fulfill their boyhead dreams of stardom, will debut in the Premieres section of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, which runs January 17-27, 2008, in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Sundance, Utah.

Regarding the documentary footage — which was filmed and directed by Sacha Gervasi, who worked as writer on the Steven Spielberg-directed movie "The Terminal" (2004) — Lips told Total Rock in April 2006, "There's been some moments I wished that [the cameras] weren't there. I even had to say, 'You've gotta shut the thing off right now because I'm gonna lose my temper and I don't think that needs to be on film.' [Laughs] [It's very easy to forget that the cameras are there] and you could say things that you really shouldn't say."

Sacha is an old friend of the band's that used to do some roadie work for them back in the 1980s. He has filmed some of their shows from their November 2005 and June 2006 European tours. He also filmed Lips' 50th birthday show at Heads or Tails in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada on February 25, 2006. As well, he filmed some of the recording of "This Is Thirteen". Sacha also interviewed many people from ANVIL's past and present, including former bandmembers.

Metal Fanzine conducted a behind-the-scenes interview with Lips at the "Metal On Metal 25th Anniversary Concert" on September 15, 2007 at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio. The 21-minute clip — which includes performance footage from the show — can be viewed below.

ANVIL has made its new album, "This Is Thirteen", available for order in a limited edition of 1,000 copies directly from the band. Make payment of $20 plus $5.00 for shipping (certified check or money order) out to R&R Enterprises and send to:

New Zealand Church Groups Protest Ozzy Performance

Jenny Ling of Stuff.co.nz reports: A crusade is looming as church groups prepare to take on heavy metal heavyweights poised to play in Wellington [New Zealand] over Easter.

Wellington pentecostal church Lifepoint says the lineup of bands — including former bat-biter OZZY OSBOURNE and KISS — are "not appropriate" and will have "negative influences" on the city during the two-day Rock2Wgtn festival on March 22 and 23.

They plan to lobby other church groups and will look at taking their concerns to Wellington City Council.

"It's not appropriate from our angle of things," said pastor Karen Crawshaw.

"I don't think we can force our views on others but at the same time we think it's a very negative influence on our city.

"It'll put a damper on the things the church traditionally focuses on at the Easter season."

The condemnation follows confirmation that another hellish rock act, Finnish heavy metal band LORDI, has been booked to appear at the Wellington event.

The band, whose five members dress in elaborate costumes as monsters and demons, won the Eurovision song contest last year.

Iron Maiden Drummer Inks Deal With Vic Firth

According to Eddie's Megastore, IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain now plays with Vic Firth drum sticks. Previously Nicko used only Shaw X sticks.

The Music Shipping Company recently bought out Shaw and comments: "William Shaw and Co. went into liquidation on February 16th, and we felt that this prominent British brand must not be allowed to disappear. The Yorkshire based company was actually established in 1866. So, whilst we are sorry that a family owned company needed to change ownership, we are very excited about making the UK brand even bigger and better than it was! We have now taken over all manufacture of Shaw Sticks with immediate effect. Stick production will be unaffected by the change in ownership, we will still continue to use the same premium American Hickory and Maple woods etc., and use the existing designs.

The Shaw range features some unique drumsticks that many kit players insist upon. They also have strong support in the Marching and Pipe Band world. After we establish full production on existing Shaw lines, we will be expanding the range to include new exciting and innovative, high quality products."

Rush Drummer Tells Tales From the Road

RUSH drummer Neil Peart has posted a lengthy message on his web site consisting mostly of tales of his travels between shows on the band's recent European tour. An excerpt follows:

"Back in April of this year, just before the 'Snakes & Arrows' tour, I did a TV interview for the Canadian music channel MuchMusic. The camera-man placed the interviewer and me in the rehearsal hall, in front of my drums, where I had been labouring for several weeks by then. Some of the interviewer's questions seemed to angle toward a certain starry-eyed view of my work, especially the touring side of it, and I tried to explain to him that I didn't consider touring, or even drumming, to be my life."

"He seemed perplexed, and to appraise me as clearly jaded and cynical, because his next question was, 'When did you start to feel that way?'" More...

Ozzy Osbourne Charity Sale Reaps Over $800,000

According to Reuters,

Sharon Osbourne and her BLACK SABBATH frontman husband, OZZY, raised more than $800,000 for charity after heavy metal enthusiasts turned out en masse for their Beverly Hills-style garage sale, auction manager Darren Julien said on Saturday.

Bidders at the auction, which benefited the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Foundation, ran the gamut from metal heads to the high-brow.

The lots included knickknacks and furniture from the Osbournes' former Beverly Hills mansion, which served as the backdrop for their family's MTV reality television series The Osbournes.

Fans snapped up Ozzy's coat for $3,300, his skull-adorned sneakers for $2,625 and a pair of his wire-rimmed sunglasses for $5,250.

"The Osbourne factor more than doubled the value of some items," said Julien, president of Julien's Auctions.

The beaded wire model of the Eiffel Tower that adorned the family kitchen throughout the series fetched $10,000 while Ozzy's Mary Rose Young coffee cup sold for $1,625. The family's custom pool table racked up a winning bid of $11,250.

Julien called the bidding "feverish" and said the quirky couple's fan base was "unlike anything we have ever seen by record numbers of bidder registrations."

Dethklok Co-Creator Talks Audience And More

Christopher Porter, entertainment editor of the Washington Post Express, recently conducted an interview with "Metalocalypse"/DETHKLOK co-creator Brendon Small. An excerpt from the chat follows:

Washington Post Express: How do you write a show that has super-specific in-jokes for the metalhead community — and the black- and death-metal fans in particular — while still appealing to the general viewer who doesn't know the Finntroll supermarket refers to a Finnish folk-metal group?

Small: We don't think of the bigger audience or anything. We just think me and Tommy; we just think about what we'd like to see in the show. If it's broad, it's because we think it makes sense with the story or the characters. If it's super specific, it's because we think it makes sense. We don't try to anticipate what an audience will think; we just do what we think will be cool.

Washington Post Express: Even when you pitched the show to Adult Swim, you didn't worry about making sure you appealed to non-metal fans?

Small: To their credit, they know a little bit about [metal]. Most people know a little about the idea of Norwegian metal — they don't know much more. They didn't know bands, they don't really listen to them. With Adult Swim, yeah, we had to educate a few people; a few people knew some stuff. But at the end of the day, they pretty much leave us alone. They don't ask us to throw in more or less BURZUM references. They just want to make sure the show works. And we're happy being creative, then they let us do our thing.

Washington Post Express: How did you come up with "Metalocalypse" — it's quite a change from your previous animated series, "Home Movies"?

Small: The laws of "Home Movies" functioned very differently from this show. That's one of the reasons this show exists: "Home Movies" was a very low-key, dry, dialogue-driven, spacious kinda comedy — like, manners-based humor. I wanted this to be the polar opposite. Plus, I really like metal. I really like playing guitar — and now I have an excuse to play guitar and be very happy. [Tommy Blacha] and I, we'd wind up at some crappy comedy parties and we'd just sit and talk about metal for a long time and not talk to anybody else. And he would be the only one who would go see metal shows with me. We'd go see CANNIBAL CORPSE and NILE and BEHEMOTH, stuff like that. Meanwhile, we were sitting around pitching some other shows. I think I had some crappy deal at SciFi network that was being elongated forever. And we were just commiserating. Then at one point I talked to my buddy from [the Adult Swim show] "The Venture Brothers", Jackson Publick, and I was telling him about this sketch that me and Tommy did. We did a live show at one point where we compared CANNIBAL CORPSE and "Glengarry Glen Ross". And I can't believe I had to be told this, but my buddy Jack said, "We aren't you doing that as a show?" And I was, like, "I can't believe I didn't figure that out." So, it wasn't going to be CANNIBAL CORPSE meets "Glengarry Glen Ross" with a guy looking for leads. But there was a show there. I also wrote all the music for "Home Movies". After "Home Movies", [Adult Swim/Cartoon Network] requested, "Come back when you have another idea. And if you have one that's a musical idea, even better."
