Thunder Issue Post-Tour Update
The webmaster for UK rockers THUNDER has issued the following update:
"The band asked me to say a big thank you to all of you who attended the recent UK tour. It was a resounding success, selling more tickets than last year's tour, despite being three shows less. It would appear that the band are becoming really rather popular again, and we have you guys to thank for that, so once again, thanks for spreading the word. Luke (Morley - guitar) is making a steady recovery after his recent illness. Playing shows when you feel unwell is never easy, but those who were there at Manchester, London and Sheffield will no doubt testify to his professionalism."
"Xmas Show Update: If you haven't got your ticket for the Xmas Knees up at Rock City on the 19th, please don't leave it too long, they are going fast. That said, we've been told here and there that some people are having difficulty in obtaining tickets. We've been told by the venue that the show is not sold out, so there should be no reason for difficulty. As usual all and any information you can give us will help us improve the situation, so if you're having trouble please email us at xmasticketprobs@thunderonline.com with as much detail as you can give." Gigan Reveal New Album Title
Guitarist Eric Hersemann of GIGAN has posted the following update:
“Hey thrashers!!! The new record is finished and we have all returned home from the studio! The record is entitled ‘The Order of the False Eye.’ There are a total of nine tracks including a 21 minute improvisational instrumental. Some of the song titles are: “Undead Auditory Emanations,” “Space Coffin Hallucinations,” “Occult Rites of the Uumpluuy,” and “Interstellar Inversion of Conciousness.” GIGAN is very excited with the overall results of the production and studio experience! Volume Studios was incredible, and Sanford Parker’s skills and imagination behind the mixing board were a huge asset to our sounds and ideas! The Order of the False Eye is definately a heavy-duty album both sonically and emotionally…There are many peaks and valleys throughout all the songs and the band collectively feels that this recording will challenge even the most jaded listeners’ cynicism with today’s state-of-affairs in the music world… Index Entertainment is planning an early Spring release, so stay tuned as a specific release date as well as cover art and a full track listing will be showing up here and at giganmusic.com soon…Thanx again for all your interest in GIGAN and we will see you soon when we start playing out again; in early 2008!!! THRASH!!!”

Hate Eternal Announce New Album Title
Tampa, FL's very own Hate Eternal is back with the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2005 release I, Monarch, titled Fury and Flames. Fury and Flames will be the bands most diverse and emotionally fueled record to date due mainly in part to the passing of bassist and good friend Jared Anderson.
Hate Eternal founder and vocalist/guitarist Erik Rutan recently did an interview with MTVnews.com where he stated, "Jared was one of my best friends, and his passing away really affected me and influenced this record a lot. It's a very dark and heavy record — not just heavy as in 'heavy metal,' but heavy-hearted as well." Go here to read the full article.
Fury and Flames will feature cover art by Paul Romano (Mastodon, Animosity, The Red Chord) and features the addition of new members Shaune Kelley as second guitarist and Jade Simonetto on drums. The addition of second guitarist Shaune means that this will be the first time Hate Eternal will be able to perform as a four piece live. Something fans will be able to experience on the first tour for Fury and Flames when the band heads out with label-mates The Black Dahlia Murder. Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse fame stepped in on bass for the recording, but due to his insane schedule with Cannibal will not be able to tour with the band. More...
Mike Patton Lends Vocals To I Am Legend
Mike Patton (ex-FAITH NO MORE, MR. BUNGLE and currently of PEEPING TOM, FANTOMAS and MONDO CANE amongst others) steps into the world of film with I Am Legend and A Perfect Place.
Patton's shape-shifting vocals will be heard in movie theaters across the country this month as he lends his voice to the dreaded creatures in I Am Legend, the post-apocalyptic film set for release on December 14th.
Next up is Patton’s debut as a film composer with the film noir short, A Perfect Place. The 20-plus minute film also marks the directorial debut of Derrick Scocchera, one of the founders of Fantoma Films, best known for their catalog of rare, cult films reissued on DVD. The score creatively reflects the style and tone of the film, which focuses on a pair of bumbling friends trying to dispose of a body. The film, shot in anamorphic black and white, will be packaged as a double-disc with the score and distributed together via Ipecac Recordings in March of 2008.
While Patton’s film work is relatively new, he’s previously appeared in 2005's award-winning independent film Firecracker and has already provided vocals to several video games including The Darkness and The Portal. 2008 finds him as the lead in the video game Bionic Commando and contributing vocal effects to Left 4 Dead.

Bonnaroo Promoters Deny Headliner Rumours
Jonathan Cohen of Billboard.com reports that the organizers of the 2008 Bonnaroo festival have quashed the rumors of LED ZEPPELIN and METALLICA headlining next year's event.
"The rumors that are out there about the Bonnaroo 2008 headliners are inaccurate," Superfly Presents and AC Entertainment said in a statement released to Billboard.com. "We're very excited about the lineup that we're putting together for this year's festival. We'll be announcing the confirmed lineup toward the end of January/beginning of February.
The source of the ZEPPELIN/METALLICA rumor was an anonymous email included last week in industry commentator Bob Lefsetz's newsletter.
LED ZEPPELIN will play its only planned show Dec. 10 in London as part of a tribute to late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
Former Murderdolls Guitarist Joins Wednesday 13
Former MUDERDOLLS frontman Wednesday 13 is gearing up for the All American Massacre U.S. tour starting in late January and running until the beginning of March. The trek will also include THE VINCENT BLACK SHADOWS, THE AKA'S and CREATURE FEATURE.
In other news, Wednesday 13 has announced that the band will remain a five-piece with the addition of ex-MURDERDOLLS/TRASHLIGHT VISION guitarist Acey Slade.
Commented Wednesday 13: "Once I realized I couldn't play guitar with my broken collar bone just before the October tour began I knew I really had to push the visual aspect of the show. I really went out of my way to try and bring the songs to life in a more visual way. It was fun to get inside these songs and act them out. The audiences all seemed to enjoy it as well and I was having a blast with it. I decided by the end of the tours that this is what I wanted to do by continuing making the live shows more theatrical and the only way to really do that was to remain a five-piece. The new ideas I have for the new years stage show are all over the place and I'm really excited for the new tour, and the fans to see it."
As previously reported, Horror High, LLC has set a February 5, 2008 U.S. release date for Wednesday 13's video project "Weirdo-A-Go-Go". This will be Horror High, LLC's first release to be distributed by Caroline/EMI.
"Weirdo-A-Go-Go" features the campy and morbid sense of humor that any fans of Wednesday 13 can expect. In the first two episodes, Wednesday 13 hosts clips and trailers of cheap horror flicks, along with performing schlocky but witty skits with his strange and wacky sidekicks. The program promises to resurrect the tradition of Saturday morning TV shows that Wednesday 13 grew up on — the random creations of Sid and Marty Krofft and Pee Wee's Playhouse mixed with the comedic approach of horror hosts Commander USA, Elvira, and Zacherely. The project was shot by Rafa of Core Entertainment, Inc. Rafa is most noted for the video and web site projects he has done for AVENGED SEVENFOLD, EVANESCENCE, ROB ZOMBIE, DISTURBED, STATIC-X and the Dimebag tribute bracelet.
WEDNESDAY 13 (ex-MURDERDOLLS) will release his already completed new album, "Skeletons", in March/April 2008. "We have been meeting with various record labels and want to make sure we find the right home," reads a posting on Wednesday's MySpace page. "We want to give the new record label as much time as needed to really set up the CD. This CD is very personal to W13 and he wants to make sure it gets the proper attention." Tentative songtitles set to appear on the album include "From Here to the Hearse", "Dead Carolina", "All American Massacre" and "Not Another Teenage Anthem".
Valient Thorr Announce Recording Plans
Venusian rockers and occasional Earth dwellers VALIENT THORR will begin working on a new album at the start of 2008.
The band will spend January in Southern California writing and demoing new material before heading to Seattle to record with Jack Endino (NIRVANA, SOUNDGARDEN, MUDHONEY, HIGH ON FIRE) at Studio Litho and Soundhouse Recording in February. This new album and follow up to their 2006 release, Legend Of The World, will be released in summer 2008.
Valient Himself, lead singer of the group, said this about working with Endino, “Man, we're psyched to begin working with Jack on the new album. Not only because of his discography, but after meeting him out on the Volcom Tour, I realized he was just as big of a record obsessive as I was.”
Valient Thorr and Endino met and toured together earlier this year on the Volcom Tour where Endino was playing guitar in the group KANDI CODED.
Valient Himself goes on to say, “Check out his [Endino’s] meticulously detailed website, we could geek out on it for hours about hard to find badass tunes. The dude knows his sh*t back to front. This record is going to be over the top.”
Valient Thorr will be road testing some new songs - 'Mask Of Sanity', 'Infinite Lives', and '1000 Winters In a Row' - this month, beginning tonight when they join up for a two-week tour with THE SWORD and BLACK COBRA.

Exodus' "Riot Act" Video To Debut on HBB
Deemed one of metal’s most important heritage bands for the lasting – and ongoing - contributions they’ve made to the creation and sustenance of the thrash metal genre, it is only apt that the first EXODUS video in support of their recently released, Billboard Heatseekers-charting album, The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A, would be visually pummeling. The band’s video for “Riot Act,” directed by Jon Schnepp of Metalocalypse (on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim) for Schneppzone Inc., will debut online this Friday, December 7th on the Headbangers Blog website and on-air on Saturday, December 8th on MTV2’s Headbangers Ball (check local listings for show times).
Calling in from a helicopter somewhere over Santa Monica, Jon Schnepp had this to say about his experience working with EXODUS:
“I had an AMAZING time working with ALL those guys – Gary, Rob, Jack, Lee, and Tom… they’re all GREAT. They did a FANTASTIC job and made it a really fun shoot. They were FULL of energy with EVERY take and you really can’t ask for more than that!”
“We went out on a limb and asked Jon if he'd shoot our video,” reminisces EXODUS guitarist/songwriter/founding member Gary Holt. “When he said yes, we were stoked to say the least. The ideas he came up with made this our best video ever! I usually hate making videos, but this time I was actually excited about it! It’s unique, and of course, it’s heavy! We’re happy to see how things have been going for the new record. Number 23 on the Heatseekers chart - pretty killer indeed! Now it’s time to hit the road and play these songs – that’s what I’M talking about!!!”
EXODUS will be launching a North American tour in support of The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A on January 20th, 2008 in Bakersfield, California with Goatwhore, Arsis, and Warbringer that will culminate in a hometown show in San Francisco on February 24th at Slim’s.

Alice In Chains Part Ways With Management
ALICE IN CHAINS has parted ways with its management company, Core Entertainment. According to a press release issued by Core, the split was caused by "the changing nature of the music business and the increasing demand for [Core's] consulting and entertainment-related services. . . Core co-founder Bill Siddons stated that we take great pride in what we accomplished in a short time — the successful re-launching of the reconfigured ALICE IN CHAINS in a manner that protected the bands credibility."
Core will continue to provide music and television management for its existing roster which includes FU MANCHU, FIREBALL MINISTRY, Michael Glabicki, Drew Lachey, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Tom Green, Elayne Boosler, and others.
ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently told MTV.com that the band is working on new material and hopes to have an LP recorded by the end of 2008.
"Definitely possibly," Cantrell responded when asked whether fans could expect an ALICE record next year. "I don't think you can put a time limit on it, because first we have to come up with a record we're satisfied with, and I think we can do that."
He continued, "The body of stuff that's been coming out so far — all the riffs and song ideas — are really cool. It's really aggressive and everything ALICE was, but it's moved on into a different thing too. It's [indicative of the] transformation of this band. The dynamic is different, and it should be. But Mike, Sean and I, we're still here. We're still a big part of how this band sounds. The elements that remain and the element that William [DuVall, new singer] brings to the band are powerful things. I couldn't put a time on it, but I can tell you that [writing songs] is what we are working toward. We're gathering material and doing other business to help this band move forward."

"After some very intense rehearsals over the last weeks and months we feel that Toni is the right man for the job and we will baptize and seal this new alliance on our upcoming tour. Give him a warm welcome and pay us a visit on our upcoming tour to assure yourselves — this guy rocks!"
As previously reported, BRAINSTORM will team up with PAGAN'S MIND and POWERWOLF for a European tour in March 2008.

Neurosonic Frontman Talks Fall Out Boy Comment
Vocalist Jason Darr of the Vancouver, British Columbia hard rock band NEUROSONIC has issued a statement in response to media reports that he was recently slapped with a cease-and-desist order by FALL OUT BOY frontman Pete Wentz over the lyrics to the NEUROSONIC song "So Many People".
Stated Darr: "Anyone silly enough to believe I was serious about the comment I made at my [NEUROSONIC's] New York City Knitting Factory performance has no sense of humor. Before we played our song 'So Many People' I joked that Pete Wentz had taken out a cease-and-desist for the song because my lyrics are all about Ashlee Simpson's [Wentz's girlfriend] 'Saturday Night Live' debacle as well as celebrity culture. The song is not new… I wrote it three years ago…I wrote the music and had the initial lyrics right after the 'Saturday Night Live' debacle in October 2004, and completed the song right after Ashlee was given the Billboard award [December 2004]. 'So Many People' is on our album 'Drama Queen', which was released by our label Bodog Music in January 2007. The song is tongue-in-cheek and it was mostly meant to blow off steam about a subject that is laughable at best… It is not meant to be malicious. I do mean every word of the song though, so you can take it or leave it. It's only rock 'n' roll."
NEUROSONIC's single "So Many People" is currently #29 at Active Rock and the video recently beat out established bands like the FOO FIGHTERS on Fuse TV's "Oven Fresh".
The Vancouver-based band has been playing the song live for over a year, including on the main stage at Family Values Tour 2007.
NEUROSONIC just finished up a U.S. tour this week and will go back on the road in January 2008.

Sadus To Play Puerto Rico
Bass legend Steve DiGiorgio (SADUS, DEATH, TESTAMENT) has updated his site with the following message:
"San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In the continuing quest to visit all of Latin America, the chance to play the US occupied island in the Caribbean came up. And just like all our Southern neighbors, we felt welcome and long overdue to bring the "Sadus Attack".
The rain was randomly pounding and the beers were just as watery... but during the brutal sets of the two support bands the fans filled in and prepared to witness the old-school set compiled by these aging Sadudes.
The enthusiasm was at a high level the whole show even though the bass amp died half-way through, but Señor Luis on the sound board saved the mix with the DI.
It was a crazy time meeting all the fans after the show and going around to the death metal sidewalk concert at 3 AM.
I want to thank Alberto, Carlos and Ray for helping us the entire time... herbal thanks go to the multi-talented Hendrix... y sobre todo gracias a todos nuestros nuevos amigos y amigas de Puerto Rico para un tiempo bueno... and you can trust, we will back!"

Aerosmith Bassist Honoured At Boston Music Awards
AEROSMITH bassist Tom Hamilton accepted the Personal Achievement Award from Christopher Guest at the 2007 Boston Music Awards (BMAs), with two of the evening's best jokes. "Turn that crap down," he said of his entrance music of "Sweet Emotion", and later, "I feel like I'm at home. This place is like another room in my house, except smaller."
Tom received the Personal Achievement Award for winning his fight against cancer and also for his support in the community.
AEROSMITH drummer Joey Kramer was honorary chairman of the 2007 Boston Music Awards.
This year's BMAs took place on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Orpheum Theater.
"AEROSMITH plays all over the world, but it all starts and comes back here to Boston for me," Kramer previously said. "Boston is in AEROSMITH's DNA. I am part of Boston's family of musicians and to be named the BMAs' Honorary Chairman gives me a real opportunity to serve my brothers and sisters in this rich community of artists."
Kramer and his band mates formed AEROSMITH in 1970 in Boston and the career that followed has been nothing short of legend. The band has sold more than 100 million albums, won multiple Grammys, MTV Video Awards, People's Choice Awards, among nearly countless others and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. AEROSMITH has been honored with more Boston Music Awards and nominations than any other band in the twenty year history of the event.
Allhelluja Part Ways With Guitarist
ALLHELLUJA, the band featuring former HATESPHERE frontman Jacob Bredahl, have issued the following update:
"As you already probably know we parted ways with Massimo (Gajer - guitar). Shit happens. Personal reasons mainly. And we prefer to respect both parts to avoid misunderstandings. What we can say is that Allhelluja now is stronger than before, with more energy and a fuckin' heavy vibe that move our shit! We don't need a new guitarist in the band now. We are a self-made band! Hahaha!!! And we can play guitars ourselves or ask some friends to join!!! The new songs will shock you! We have something like 20 songs ready, we just have to choose... We are ready for the recording sessions of the new album!!! More details will follow! And some cool guests will be announced soon."
Cry Of The Afflicted Guitarist Leaves Band
Cry Of The Afflicted (Solid State Records) has announced the imminent departure of guitarist Steve Lockhart. Here's a statement from the band:
"We are sad to say that our long-time guitarist Steve Lockhart is going to be leaving the band following our upcoming show on the 12th of December. It is important that everybody knows that we all continue to be great friends and that that will not change. We sincerely wish the best for Steve in all of his future endeavors, and he will always be a part of the band family. To everyone in the local area - we encourage you all to come out to the show on the 12th to give Steve a great send off!"
Meanwhile, Lockhart has issued the following:
"At this time I would like to announce that December 12th at the Habitat in Kelowna will be my last show as a member of Cry of the Afflicted. Over the last few months I have felt my heart leading me in a new direction than where the band is going, and after many discussions as a band we decided that it is best for me to part ways with them.
"The past 4 years have been the best of my life and as sad as I am to see this stage of my life end, I know it is for the best and I am excited to see what is in store for me, as well as the rest of the guys. I have had many amazing experiences, made so many friends, and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to share the stage with so many talented bands.
"Though we will no longer be band mates, Garrett, James, Nik, Troy and I are all still friends and I wish them all the best and will continue to support them in any way I can. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for us and supported us in the past. I love you all very much. Please come out on December 12th and help make my last show one to remember!"

Former 7 Angels 7 Plagues and Dead To Fall guitarist Matt Matera has joined New York City metal/hardcore band Royalty In Exile. The group comments:
"As very few knew, he was out here for the past week working on material with us. We managed to put together a new track which will continue our mission in bringing back kick ass original music, with plans of Matt moving out here permanently by January (which is right around the corner). We're hoping to have some new material and the band up and ready to go shortly after. For now we added a new track to keep everyone busy."

Megadeth Drummer Speaks On Joining The Band
Jeff Perlah of ModernDrummer.com reports: When Shawn Drover joined MEGADETH in October 2004, his biggest concern wasn't learning the group's head-spinning drum parts, but rather being accepted by long-time fans. "Fans of MEGADETH are so proud of this band that I think if you weren't doing a good job, they'd let you know," Drover says. "I wanted acceptance from the fans, and I think, after more than two and a half years, the consensus is quite positive."
Positive indeed, especially after the release of Drover's first studio album with the band, "United Abominations", and on the concert DVD "That One Night". Drover was hired six days before a recent MEGADETH tour, after head honcho Dave Mustaine and crew parted ways with drummer Nick Menza. Drover's brother Glen had become MEGADETH's lead guitarist about six weeks earlier, and when the drummer spot opened, things were kept familial — especially because Mustaine dug the Drovers' previous band, Canadian thrash/power outfit EIDOLON.

Anthrax To Re-Issue Albums This Month
ANTHRAX will release "Sound Of White Noise (Expanded Edition)" and "Stomp 442 (Expanded Edition)" as digital releases for the first time via Anthrax Ltd./ Megaforce Records on December 18, 2007. In addition to being available at digital outlets such as iTunes, Rhapsody, etc., ringtones will also be available via all major cell phone providers.
ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian recently told MTV.com that he, drummer Charlie Benante and bassist Frank Bello have spent most of 2007 writing and fine-tuning a batch of new songs, which Ian said are along the lines of the band's 2003 album, "We've Come for You All".
At this point, ANTHRAX have a pile of songs, and they're just waiting for the right guy to fill the frontman position so they can proceed. While they've got a short list of singers with whom they're in discussions, there's no word regarding who will fill John Bush and Joey Belladonna shoes.
"It's getting to be a little bit of a problem with the material we're writing," Ian admitted. "Because the singer we use will obviously have some bearing on what kind of songs we write. But we know that we want to make a proper follow-up to 'We've Come for You All', which we all loved. But we want it to be even better: heavier, faster, hookier. As songwriters, you try to improve on your craft. And fortunately, we've got the time to make that happen. We have no deadline at all because we've got no label deal, so my attitude is, 'Let's make the most metal record we've ever made in our lives,' and I would have to say that's coming to fruition."

Metal Church Singer To Perform With Katagory V
Utah-based progressive/power metallers KATAGORY V will perform as METAL CHURCH vocalist Ronny Munroe's backing band in Las Vegas, Nevada on New Year's Eve.
Commented KATAGORY V bassist Dustin Mitchell: "When we got the call from our friend Jeff (promoter, Loud Productions) about possibly putting together a New Year's party in Las Vegas, we were totally game for that. However, we would not be performing as KATAGORY V, but instead as Ronny Munroe's backing band! We have been friends with Ronny for some time now, and when the favor was asked of us to help out with this gig, we had to no other answer but 'Hell yes!'"
The Ronny Munroe New Year's Eve show will include songs from METAL CHURCH, his solo CD, ROTTWEILLER, KATAGORY V and more.
Munroe has been recording material for new solo project. Joining Munroe in the group are his former ROTTWEILLER bandmates Rick Van Zandt on guitar, Izzy Rehaume on bass and Doug Marapodi on drums along with Q-5/TKO/NIGHTSHADE guitarist Rick Pierce.
Dimebag's Former Girlfriend Slams Phil Anselmo
Metal Monthly conducted an interview last month (November 2007) with Rita Haney, the longtime girlfriend of late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
Metal Monthly: Your thoughts on Phil [Anselmo, ex-PANTERA singer]. Is he a part of the problem or part of the solution?
Rita: [Laughs] He's not our problem anymore. But seriously, I think people have the right to choose what they like or dislike. My issues with Anselmo are my own and they shouldn't have to be anyone else's. If I asked people to choose, then I wouldn't be any better than him. He has been the king of lies and manipulation in our camp for a long time. I know now that that started with the heroin use, but he can never go back to being the person he once was, and when he was that person — man, he was on! A great frontman, and I would never try and say different. But I just don't believe, or believe in him, anymore... I can't! When that Metal Hammer interview came out with Philip saying Dimebag Darrell needs to be beaten severely... and no matter how he tries to explain that one away, he said it. Plus a few other things. Metal Hammer sent the audios of his interview to Vinnie [Paul, Dimebag's brother and former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer] and yes! That's Phil Anselmo's voice. I heard it myself. But after it was posted on Blabbermouth, Dime asked me — and I could hear the lump in his throat — "What did I ever do to him?" And you know, I had to fight the lump in my own throat, I hated seeing him hurt, and he asked me again, "What did I ever do to him?" And I told him, "Nothin', baby. All you ever did was love him in his heart you are the one person on this earth that he truly respects and he can't face you... so in his drug-induced mind he's made you his enemy... for no reason at all... all because he's a junkie and you're not, which makes you not part of his world." And ya know, he said, "Maybe you're right, but I can't do this anymore." I know the last thing Dime told me that day about him was he was done! He would never stand on stage with him again! Philip had humiliated and embarrassed him for the last time! Dime told me then, "I'm writing him off. No longer will he trample through my peaceful mind!" And when that tour bus came home and there was no one to get off of it... that was one of the hardest things I had to do was go on there and pack up his bunk, but while I was doing it I found a two-page letter that Dime had written about Philip and in his own handwriting. It says what he had told me that day and a few other things about Mr. Anselmo, so in my heart I just can't believe in him anymore... It's tired. When Dime forgives him then I will... I have to stand by Dime and his brother; it's what I know is right.
Metal Monthly: Many people do not know that Eddie Van Halen buried one of his guitars with Darrell. This is true, right? And like 20 bottles of Crown Royal?
Rita: [Laughs] There's a few bottles of 7 up in there too! My boy loooves Seagram's! But yeah, Vinnie and I were trying to figure out which guitar, and about that time Ed called... he asked me on the phone if there was anything he could do, and I said, "Yes, as a matter of fact there is... Can you stripe him a yellow-and-black guitar?" He said, "Are you sure you don't want the red-black-and-white?" I said, "No... Dime told me the yellow-and-black is the shit! It's the toughest lookin'!" He always thought that. We had just seen VAN HALEN in Midland, TX a few weeks earlier and that was the first time Dime ever got to meet Eddie Van Halen. They hung out before and after the show. Dime even got to play on his rig at soundcheck. He was like a kid in a candy store... the way his eyes were lit up. He told me later in the limo — which Van Halen provided — "How cool is that?" Anyway he leaned over and looked me right in the eyes and said, "If I died tonight, it wouldn't matter, 'cause I've done everything now, I've met Eddie Van Halen!" and he had the biggest smile on his face... he was so happy! But, shit, I strayed! I'm the world's worst about telling 10 stories at once! [Laughs] Back to Ed... He said, "OK," that he would be down in a couple of days. When Ed came in at the viewing, he had the guitar, but it wasn't the guitar we expected... he told Vinnie and I that "Dime was an original and only an original deserves the original!" He popped open the case and there it was... his original '79 still with the rusted set of strings on it! It was so amazing!!! I took it in to Dime and I said, "See, baby, you didn't get a replica! You got THE one," and I gave him a kiss on the forehead and place it in there with him... Ed was awesome and I thank him still!
Metal Monthly: I saw you recently got one of the coolest tattoos ever, and you were filmed [for the "LA Ink" show] while doing it. What was that experience like?
Rita: Ya know, I hadn't had a tat in over seven years. I was kinda nervous. I didn't know how it was going to feel in that area and on the hand, but believe it or not, it was really smooth... Kat's an amazing artist, we all know that, but she has an awesome touch when it comes to layin' ink! Now I ain't gonna lie, it did sting when it came around the elbow and the knuckles, especially that joint on top of the wrist! [Laughs] But it rocked! I'm so proud of this tat! The portrait she did is very sentimental to me 'cause he was actually handing me down a shot on the headstock of his guitar in Chicago and the House of Blues. I was in the photo pit filming and Chad Lee, the photographer, was right next to me and he snapped the photo. When I look at the portrait in the mirror and see the look in his eyes and the smile on his face, I know he was looking at me... that look was for me and it makes me smile.
Metal Monthly: Rita, I know how TV works and they edit things down... On the ["LA Ink"] interview you probably said a lot that was cut out. Is there anything you would like to say to the families of the other guys who lost their lives that most tragic night?
Rita: Yeah, we interviewed for two or three hours and they took segments out of place. I've only seen the show once, but for instance, when I'm talking about how the events of the night unfold... They had asked me a question of how I knew, and they took those clips from me describing mine and Vinnie's phone call and what he was telling me at that particular time… before we knew everything and before I read the autopsy, so unless you hear the whole thing then, yeah, I guess there are people out there that are going to try and turn it into something else. One thing that I want to make clear, I was not there that night and I have never once claimed to be. When I say "we," I'm referring to our family and organization, I did not mean for people to misinterpret that, and yes, in those interviews I named everyone's names who were there on that awful night... Eric, Nathan and Mayhem [DAMAGEPLAN's head of security] — and his name is Mayhem when it comes to our camp, just like Kat [DAMAGEPLAN drum tech] is Kat, not John Brooks. But I was not in control over how that show was edited, and I feel for those families and their losses. I hate that the thing we share in life is that fuckin' night. But I will not represent Dime in a bitter way. Yeah, I could sit around and be angry and shitty and point fingers at everybody else that didn't save him. I mean, come on... it happened how it happened, and there's nothing we can do to change that now. But yeah, inside sometimes that tries to bubble to the surface, but he wasn't that kind of person, and I will not let myself represent him that way either. The only thing I know I can do is come away from this and share with other people what I learned from him. Dime gave me so much. Even though he was taken away, I can't complain. I'm just thankful for all the "Dime time" he gave me! If I can help put a smile on someone's face, then hell yeah, I will! When I grieve for him, it's on my own time, not someone else's. They shouldn't have to deal with my burdens and issues or what I keep inside. Dime was about puttin' that smile on their face and makin' people happy, and so am I. To quote him one more time, "You either roll with it, or you get rolled over." I heard about a post that someone put up on MySpace from one of the family members of the other victims, but I have not read it personally. I heard they took potshots at the fact that Dime and I weren't married and all kinds of other bullshit nitpicks. Not that I owe anybody an explanation, but I don't do the marriage/kid thing — that's my business and it should remain, unless I choose to share it, you know. It's like religion... no one wants someone else's beliefs shoved off on 'em, but I will not apologize for something that I had no control over or that was not my fault. I do not know the other people, with the exception of Mayhem, but from their actions and giving there lives to help, I would not think they would want to be represented with such bitterness either. And I can't claim to know how their family members feel about their loss. I only know how I feel and how my family feels! I'm all about helping out where I can. I take care of my own, I always have! I have not once ever been contacted by any of them... But, if there's something I can do to help raise money or charity stuff, whatever... then bring it! But I will not let someone try and make me feel like I owe them something, because I don't and I have not asked them for anything in return as well. So my question is this: I would just like to know how you come to the conclusion that it's my responsibility and no one else's that was affected by this tragedy? Why am I the person who has to try and make it right for you? Well, there is no right for this situation and there never will be, unless those people who lost there lives that night come walking through the door right now. I do wanna give a shout out to Nathan's [Bray] mom. She is the only other family member that I've had the privilege to meet and God bless her!

Kreator To Release New Live DVD In March
The following press release has been announced by Kreator:
Following their truly global Enemy of God World Tour, German thrash gods KREATOR will be parking the steamrollers for a while and taking a creative break in 2008 to concentrate on writing new material and recording their next album. Live activity for the band in 2008 will only be sporadic, consisting primarily of selected festival appearances. Kreator’s next album is currently scheduled for release in January of 2009, to be followed by an extensive world tour later in the year.
To make the long wait a little less painful for Kreator fans, March of 2008 sees the re-release on DVD of Live In East Berlin and Hallucinative Comas, both re-edited and previously only available on VHS video cassette. The DVD release goes out under the title At The Pulse Of Kapitulation - Live In East Berlin 1990.
Release dates:
Europe: March 31st, 2008
Germany: March 28th, 2008
North America: March 25th, 2008
Guitarist/vocalist Mille Petrozza comments:
Tour: "As another year winds down, I think back on all the wild, ultra-aggressive Kreator concerts we played in 2007. We ran into lots of our old friends again and made many new ones as well. I’d like to say ‘Thanks!’ at this point to all the promoters and fans who made it possible! The legion of Kreator supporters is growing all the time, and you made 2007 a very exciting year for us in the band."
Album: "Right now, it’s time for us to recharge our batteries and write some new songs. A little like the creature in ‘Alien’, several ideas for the next album have been brooding inside me for a while and now they’re ready to burst out of my chest and take the Kreator story to the next level. Musically, the whole concept will be very brutal and melodic! I’ve been working for over a year now between gigs with Tim Schuldt at 4 CN Studio in Wuppertal, Germany on the demos, and at the moment there are 10 basic ideas and fragments for new songs. Starting in January of 2008, the band will get together in Essen to start working out arrangements for the new stuff."
DVD: "Over the years, I’ve met lots of people in and around Berlin who’s first metal experience ever was the concert we did there in the early 90’s at the ‘Werner Seelenbinder Halle’. The new DVD features some of these people in recent interviews, and there are also some original quotes from back then. Words don’t do justice to the energy that was in the air that day in East Berlin, and the whole event can only be described as utterly unique and historic.
Up until now this legendary concert was only available as a VHS video with less-than-ideal sound quality. But Niels Folta and I have carefully digitalized all the material and upgraded it to today’s standards, re-edited everything and called in Andy Sneap to mix it all in 5.1 sound format. The result is a tremendous upgrade in the quality of the whole thing without destroying the early 90s charm of the original.
Plus, the DVD also contains the Hallucinative Coma video from 1991. This was our mini horror movie for the Coma Of Souls album at the time. For the DVD, original director Andreas Marshall has personally re-edited his own ‘Director’s Cut’, featuring never-seen-before scenes that the censors just couldn’t stomach back in the day. All in all, this new DVD is a great metal package featuring the best of the original and plenty of extra features to get your head around!"

Hardcore to Me
I remember being at an Articles of Faith show back in the early 1980s in Chicago and thinking, "This is where I belong, these are my people." It's not 1982 anymore and you can't expect things to sound the same. The lines have blurred and you can nearly start a riot on some corners trying to define who and what is hardcore. Much of what is called hardcore these days has strong metal influences and sounds much different from what was called hardcore back in the day.
I'm a fan of lots of the old school stuff which came out of the punk scene but I also like a some of the newer 'metalcore' stuff. That being said, here are some of the recordings that are in my player or in the car on a regular basis: More...
