Dave Mustaine Checks In From Australia
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update from the road in Australia:
"I wanted to tell you about my experience in Perth, Australia and the concert."
"I loved the fans, I liked the show, and I hated the security."
"But if you take away the fact that the security let guys up on stage (one of which is in the infamous 'Dave grabs fan' video at YouTube; thanks for that), that the security guard that was assigned to 'shadow' me was quite visible, and that the guys in the pit were seemingly fanboys and stood facing me, instead of keeping the fans from landing on their backs in the pit, then we had a great show." Bring Me The Horizon Frontman Talks To Metal Forge
Justin Donnelly of Australia's The Metal Forge recently conducted an interview with BRING ME THE HORIZON vocalist Oliver "Oli" Sykes. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
On how the group's album, "Count Your Blessings", is doing in America:
"The album's been doing awesome here in the U.S. The reactions have been really positive from the press, so we're pleased with the way things have been going so far on that side of things. As for the tour itself, it's been really cool. Actually, it's been doing amazing. The reactions have been crazy. It's really weird for us in a way, because we didn't quite know what to expect. We read a lot of the messages that some U.S. fans had left us on our MySpace page, and they were always telling us we should get over there to tour. But we really didn't know just how many fans we had over there, or what sort of reaction we would get from people over there. I guess we didn't really expect that we would be as big as what we are now, or get as many kids coming out to see us. We've been playing every night, and we've had people up the front singing the words back to us. It's a really weird situation for us. It's such a positive reaction every night. So everything so far has been really mental.” More...

Royal Hunt Put Finishing Touches On New Album
Danish hard rock band ROYAL HUNT is putting the finishing touches on its new album at NorthPoint Productions for an early 2008 release. The as-yet-untitled CD, which will be conceptual follow-up to the 1997 release "Paradox", will be mixed later this month at EMI/Medley Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. Guest singers on the album include Doogie White (RAINBOW, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN), Ian Parry (ELEGY, CONSORTIUM PROJECT), Kenny Lubcke (NARITA) and Henrik Brockmann (ex-ROYAL HUNT, EVIL MASQUERADE).
ROYAL HUNT earlier in the year launched a vocalist search following the departure of John West.
West joined ROYAL HUNT in 1999 during the recording of the "Fear" album and he worked with the band up until its latest release — the "Royal Hunt 2006" live CD/DVD.
Lacuna Coil Singer Speaks On Latest Album And More
Michael O'Brien of Australia's The Metal Forge recently conducted an interview with LACUNA COIL singer Andrea Ferro. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
On whether they feel proud of the fact that they are Italy's greatest heavy rock export:
'Yeah, we do (feel proud) but sometimes it's the other bands that they don't feel the same. They get jealous or make stupid comments. Some of them, not all of them of course, some bands feel like we don't deserve this but they don't recognize that even if you don't like our music the most important thing is we are opening some doors for heavy music in general from Italy and that's the most important thing. It's not the fact that you like or don't like our music. You have to recognize what we are doing for everyone, just because we are doing it, not because of what we are."
On the perception from some longtime fans that the band has abandoned its roots:
"Every time you try to step a bit in a different direction you always have the old-school fans that don't approve and you have new people coming to you. I think its normal for every band. We are the kind of band which try to change a little bit on every album, improve and move in to a different direction, so it's normal for us to receive these kinds of comments. It's just a natural thing, it's a spontaneous thing. For every band there is an evolution. If you play the same style album after album it can be more rewarding in a way for the old-school fans but it's just not the way we are. We've never been like that. It's a natural course for us to change album after album. . . It's not honest if we just keep doing the same album because we know a certain amount of people are going to buy it. It's just not honest for us because we're not the same people we were in 2001 when we wrote the previous album. It's normal that in 3-4 years you change, you experience different things. It's not like we are going to do a techno or hip-hop album, it's still going to be a rock/metal album but of course there's going some little different directions we are going to take because it's just the way we experience our life and we can't just live forever with the same sound or the same riffs. We try to evolve the music.'
On the criticms that LACUNA COIL's latest album, "Karmacode", has a much more straight-edged rock sound to it:
"I think the evolution is not only on the sound of the band, it's also on your taste. On what you listen to or what inspired you in general in your life. It's altogether a personal change and also a musical reflection of the personal change. Otherwise it would be fake just to do a rock album because you think that it's cooler or because it's easier to do better in the charts. You have to do it because you feel it's the right time for you to do it. We aren't kids anymore and we've been doing rock music for a while now. We are just following our personal growth and our personal experience and the music is reflecting this."
On whether having six members in the band makes it harder to make decisions or split various duties:
"We try to work as much as we can all together. Of course it's not always possible so we try to split the different roles in the band in between the members, like somebody is taking care of the internet, some are taking care of the promotion, some others do management, contact or economical situations. We try to give everybody a role so that everybody works in the same way. We share all the income in six so there is no discussion about who wrote this or who wrote that. We just write the best music for the band and that's it. We don't write music just because we get 40% of the royalties or something like that. We try to keep it as a good business for everybody and try to keep it active for everybody so everybody feels involved in the band and not left apart from everything. It gets hard when you have somebody who isn't happy anymore. This is a friendship, not only a band. We started the band as friends in the pub so it's not like we were planning to become professional musicians. Everything that happens we have tried to manage as a bunch of friends instead of just some musicians put together to do the band."
On having vocalist Cristina Scabbia as the focal point of the band in the eyes of the media:
"It's something that we have learned to deal with. It's not something that you feel inside the band, it's something that you receive from the outside. I think it's the same for every band that has a nice female in it. I think we have learnt how to manage it. If it can bring some different attention to the band it's fine. The most important thing is that when people come to the show, they come and see a show and not beauty on the stage and that's it. Cristina can use her image but she is also a very good singer and a very good entertainer live. So the most important thing for us is that she isn't just an image. She also can also play with her image and sometimes with the help of some media that is a bit too much exposure. Some people who are more superficial maybe just get that from the band. It's just the way it is. We can't do much about it (and) it's not a big problem for us. We are like a little family, we are all friends (and) we don't really care. We take it more as being a funny thing. People think, 'how can you stay behind such a beautiful girl?' and they don't imagine that for me she's like a sister. She's just like one of the guys in the band. And it's the same for her. It's a completely different situation from inside (the band) than from outside."
Adagio Singer Producing Skyrion Debut
ADAGIO frontman Gus Monsanto has issued the following update:
"After a great summer with many shows with ADAGIO that came to a great ending with the KAMELOT tour, I am back home in Brazil."
"There's some really cool stuff lined up. I will be reuniting my old hard rock band Angel Heart on November 17 in Petropolis (Rio de Janeiro). We will have some very special guests, such as Renato Tribuzy (TRIBUZY) and Bruno Sutter (MASSACRATION). I will also be teaming up with Kiko Loureiro, ANGRA's guitar player, for a workshop on November 20, also in Petropolis."
"Right now, I am finishing the production of a new heavy metal band's debut CD, SKYRION 'Beyond Creation', which is probably coming out in 2008." More...
Lordi Announce Hometown Concert
Finnish metal monsters LORDI have announced a hometown gig on December 14 at Lappi Areena in Rovaniemi. This will mark the band's first Finnish gig — indeed, the first European concert — since touring the U.S. with first Ozzfest, then TYPE O NEGATIVE.
Nevermore Frontman Taps Musicians For Solo Album
NEVERMORE frontman Warrel Dane has tapped James Murphy (ex-TESTAMENT, DEATH, OBITUARY) and Jeff Loomis (NEVERMORE) to play guest solos on his upcoming solo album, which is tentatively due in early 2008. Dane has written about eight tracks with former SOILWORK guitarist-turned-producer Peter Wichers and has also collaborated with ex-HIMSA guitarist Matt Wicklund on a few songs. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "August", "Obey" (described by Dane as "one of my favorite songs that Peter has penned — very heavy and Dirk's [SOILWORK's Dirk Verbeuren] drumming is amazing on this track") and "Messenger". Also included will be a "very metalized cover" of an old SISTERS OF MERCY song.
In a September 2006 interview with Metal-Rules.com, Dane stated about the upcoming solo CD, "I've been working on it for like the last year off and on, just writing songs with Peter Wichers, and at some point we'll finish them then go in the studio . . . It doesn't sound like NEVERMORE, and I think, you know, if it did, there wouldn't be much point in doing a side project. If it sounded like NEVERMORE I think it would be a little redundant . . . Of course it's metal! Kind of like metal-infused hard rock, I think. It's different and it's a chance for me to explore myself — explore myself in other ways! [laughs] Well, for me, and for Peter from SOILWORK as well, it was kind of a chance for us both to 'step outside the box,' because people expect a certain thing from both those bands and with this we don't have to fulfill any expectations. We can do whatever we want." More...

Motorhead Mainman Talks About Press
The following story is courtesy of Nathan Bevan from Icwales.icnetwork.co.uk:
“The trick about interviewing Lemmy,” a friend warned me, “is to get him after he’s recovered from last night’s hangover and just before he starts working on tomorrow’s.”
Apparently, the notoriously hard-boozing MOTÖRHEAD singer hates interviews.
Just ask the traumatised French TV reporter in the mid-1980s clip, currently doing the rounds on YouTube, who made the mistake of asking him: “Why eez your music so violent?”
“Violent? What do you mean violent!?” barked the warty-faced metal god, before promptly smashing up his hotel room, stopping only to wink at the cameras while holding a knife to the quaking journo’s throat.
So it’s not without a hint of trepidation that I make the late night trans-Atlantic phone call to the self-confessed ‘heaviest drinking, most oversexed speedfreak in the music business’ at his two-room Hollywood pad.
“I don’t know who started the rumour I hated the Press, I’ve done more interviews than you’ve had f**king hot dinners,” croaks 61-year-old Lemmy who, despite naming his band after their colossal capacity for necking amphetamines, sounds absolutely knackered.
“Besides, nobody in the world could possibly be as mean as I look, could they?”

Iron Maiden Set To Break Nordic Record
The following report is courtesy of Pollstar:
Live Nation international chairman Thomas Johansson believes IRON MAIDEN's summer tour will break Nordic records by playing to 250,000 people across six shows.
Apart from beating BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND, which played to just short of that figure in 2003, it will be the first time any act has played both of Sweden's major outdoors - Stockholm Stadium and Gothenburg Ullevi Stadium - during the same Scandinavian run.
Johansson and his Nordic colleagues in Denmark, Finland and Norway expect the shows to sell out, although he's not prepared to estimate how long it will take.
"We're going into Trondheim Lerkendalstadium in Norway and Horsens Gods Bane Pladsen in Denmark, which are both something of an unknown for us with Iron Maiden. In that respect we're taking something of a risk but Iron Maiden is the sort of act that gives promoters the confidence to take risks," Johansson explained.
The band's Scandinavian career shows nearly three decades of steady growth since it started out supporting KISS in 1979. The July 16-27 run is part of the act's Somewhere Back In Time World Tour.

Def Leppard Drummer Talks Raven Drum Foundation
The following story is courtesy of Alicia Doyle from Venturacountystar.com:
DEF LEPPARD drummer Rick Allen will never forget the support he received after losing his arm in a car crash in 1984.
"Everyone was there for me; I got letters from all over the place, places I couldn't even pronounce," said Allen, 44, who continued drumming with the British rock band after the amputation of his left arm.
His loss and famous subsequent recovery led to the Raven Drum Foundation, a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower those in crisis through healing arts programs, drumming events and partnerships that support global healing.
"The Raven Drum Foundation is really a way for me to give back," said Allen, a Malibu resident whose accident occurred near Sheffield, England. "If I can give back where I live, somehow it will come back to me."
Hoping to empower individuals using the power of the drum, Allen will facilitate a Raven drum circle starting at 3 PM PST today (November 11th) at the Topanga Community House in Topanga.

Paroxysm Part Ways With Drummer
Québec's Prodisk have issued the following update:
"Franck Camus and PAROXYSM just announced that due to personal differences, drummer Franck Camus will not be beating the skins for the band anymore. Franck has had a major role in the rise of Paroxysm as one of the promising and dominant acts on the Québec metal scene. If anything else, the release of the utterly brutal Scars Of The Art is proof of that. The album was recently commended by the critics and sales are rapidly increasing. The band is currently looking for a replacement and an official announcement will be made soon regarding auditions. For additional information, contact our media relations person at promo@prodiskmusic.com."
Paroxysm's new album, Scars Of The Art, was issued on October 23rd via Prodisk.

Thunderstone Check In
Finnish melodic power metallers THUNDERSTONE have updated their "tour diary" with another entry from their current European trek with NOCTURNAL RITES. Bassist Titus Hjelm's latest posting reads as follows:
"Another ’reunion' waited for us in Vienna. It was the first time there for us in four years. The venue was tiny compared to the previous ones, but the great crowd made us forget it right away.
Last night's bus party and the taste of Czech beer was still in our mouths, but even a hangover couldn't stop the party on stage. From Vienna we headed towards Nurnberg and Hirsch which is a familiar venue for us from the AXEL RUDI PELL tour in 2004. The Monday crowd was a bit sleepy but we still had a very good time, doing some 'ripaska' on stage and telling the usual quality THUNDERSTONE jokes.
"Next day was very strange since the town of the show was changed at the last minute. Instead of Losheim we were playing in Merzig. On top of that the venue was changed last minute too. However, despite the shortcomings, quite a nice crowd showed up. Our friends Alex and Vivian made sure that we were stocked with (terrible-tasting, might I add...) booze, and another party was on its way..."
THUNDERSTONE's European tour with NOCTURNAL RITES wraps up tonight (November 11) in Hamburg, Germany.
STRATOVARIUS keyboardist Jens Johansson was unable to join THUNDERSTONE on their current European tour as a replacement for the recently departed Kari Tornack. According to the band, Johansson was forced to bow out of the tour "for personal reasons."
Amaseffer Complete New CD
Drummer and main songwriter Erez Yohanan of the "holy project" AMASEFFER has issued the following update:
"It is a great pleasure to finally write the words 'the CD is done!'
"We have just came back from Germany and we thought to share some words with you that will wrap up our Holy voyage so far to the point of having a finished CD in our hands.
"What we did basically was uploading Mats Levén (KRUX, ex-THERION, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) vocal lines, doing some final mix adjustments and finally we wrapped up the whole thing by doing the mastering process.
"Now as we seat and finally have been listening to the totally finished result we can truly say that we could not ask for more then that! The final result is truly astonishing and we can't wait to share it with you, our Holy friends all around the world.
"Surely Mats Levén vocal lines will not be overlooked by us here and we must say that the hard and detailed work he had put into it really took the CD one step to a level of perfection as we hear it! Mats brought a whole new dimension to our music!
"Artwork: We have just received all the finished art work for the CD and it came out truly AMAZING! We will unveil the CD cover, title and song list as soon as we start the promotion for the upcoming release.
"As for a deal with a record label: We hope to bring you some good news regarding that as soon as possible. As we see it, we can look for a release in the next few months in God's will."
AMASEFFER's trilogy of albums is being recorded in several separate sessions. ORPHANED LAND singer Kobi Farhi will narrate the albums, which will also feature an appearance by ARCH ENEMY frontwoman Angela Gossow.
Rammstein Guitarist Talks Pyro
VampireFreaks.com recently caught up with RAMMSTEIN guitarist Paul Landers. The following is an excerpt from the interview:
Q: Since you guys are known for putting on crazy shows, what is the craziest thing thats happened at one of our shows?
Landers: "Once we had a show in Sweden and Till (Lindemann/vocals) actually set the entire backdrop on fire. Everyone in the audience of course thought it was planned and it was great, but it wasn't at all part of the plan. We sort of have a sense of healthy fear because of that incident with GREAT WHITE with that big fire in that club. So we're sort of afraid the fire thing will be completely forbidden. Another crazy story is that a long time ago Till had a firecracker rocket that he would fire off, it was like a huge rocket, a real big fireworks rocket that goes realy high. At one concert we were playing at a club where you could open the ceiling. We didn't tell anyone, there was no warning and he had to actually hit the hole in the ceiling. If he wouldn't have hit it, it would have blown up right in the club!"
Q: The album Rosenrot is known to be the "sister album" to Reise Reise. Will there be any other "sister albums" in the future?
Landers: "Basically we had a bunch of songs extra from reise reise and we had a contract for five albums with universal, Rosenrot was the last of the five albums to fulfill the contract. so we took a bunch of the songs that for theatrical reasons didn’t fit into reise reise or would have been b-sides and we also wrote 4 or 5 new songs. there were several reasons for that - 1) we wanted to take a break for a year, 2) we wanted to finish the contract, and 3) there were good songs there so we may as well wanted to get them out.
Q: What happened with the contract then?
Landers: "We've got no contract right now and we're free to look around. we got all the cards in our hand so everything's open right now."
