Disturbed Singer Recalls Motorcycle Accident
The Pulse of Radio reports: DISTURBED singer David Draiman said last week that the band's new album, which it's currently recording in Chicago, will be angrier and more aggressive than the group's previous two efforts. Draiman told The Pulse of Radio that the mood of the record was inspired by several experiences he had in the last two years, of which the most painful was a motorcycle accident. "This guy cut me off," he said. "I was doing maybe 20, 25 miles an hour and he decided to turn in front of me whether I was coming or not, and I hit both the front and rear brakes and the rear wheels started to lock up. I was maybe 15, 20 feet away from the guy and still coming forward, so I had to lay the bike down. Scraped along the asphalt with it for about five, six feet. I had some road rash pretty bad on my right forearm, but that's about it."
Draiman added that he got up and started to chase the truck that cut him off, before witnesses made him stop and he realized that he was bleeding.
Some of Draiman's other experiences in the last two years included several romances that went bad, a fire that destroyed his garage and the vehicles inside it, plus family health and real estate issues.
The new DISTURBED CD is tentatively titled "Indestructible", with a spring 2008 release in the works.
The disc may contain a cover of FAITH NO MORE's "Midlife Crisis". However, the band's contribution to the soundtrack of this past summer's "Transformers" movie, called "This Moment", will not appear on the new album.
More Helloween Chart Positions Revealed
HELLOWEEN's new CD, "Gambling with the Devil", has entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 38. The LP has also landed at No. 18 on the UK "Rock Albums" chart.
"Gambling with the Devil" first-week chart positions so far:
Germany: #38
Japan: #3 (International)
Sweden: #34
UK: #18 (Rock Albums)
The regular "Gambling with the Devil" album consists of eleven songs (plus an intro, spoken by SAXON's Biff Byford) with a total playing time of 57 minutes and 40 seconds. For their many faithful fans, there is also a limited first edition (40,000 units in a digipak with an embossed and stamped slipcase to be released in Europe, and 10,000 units in a jewel case in the U.S.) with a bonus CD featuring two extra tracks, the video for the first single "As Long As I Fall", and a "making-of" of the video, including interview sequences. As a special highlight, the first edition includes a scratch ticket with an exciting puzzle, as described in detail on the HELLOWEEN homepage. The solution to the puzzle allows you to register at Helloween.org and take part in a draw with a sensational first prize: The lucky winner will receive a trip for two to a HELLOWEEN show in America — including flight, accommodation at the band hotel, backstage tickets, and, of course, a personal meeting with the band! There are also signed Gibson/Epiphone guitars and great fan packs to be won.
Under the direction of producer Charlie Bauerfeind, HELLOWEEN recorded a total of 16 songs at the Mi Sueno studios in Tenerife. The focal point of this diverse album is a three-part epos consisting of the chapters "The Bells of the Seven Hells", "Falling to Pieces" and "I.M.E.", which represent the ambiguous album title that thematically covers all the songs. "At the end of the day, life is a gamble with the devil," singer Andi Deris explains. The cover artwork was designed by Martin Häusler ("Keeper of the Seven Keys – The Legacy" and "Live on 3 Continents") again.
The "Hellish Rock" tour of Europe is scheduled to start in mid-November, supported by top act GAMMA RAY. Apart from a few festival appearances, this will be the first joint tour by HELLOWEEN and GAMMA RAY.
Anthrax Guitarist Wries Suicide Girls Column
ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has launched a regular column on SuicideGirls.com. The column is called "Scott Ian's Food Coma" where he writes about his food and travel experiences. An excerpt from the first installment follows:
"I've been in Los Angeles for 18 years now and I know I've developed a disaster callous because driving on a freeway next to a hillside in flames is just interesting enough to get me to stop typing on my iPhone (yes, I am THAT GUY or that gay. Either one works.)
"I do love this city and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I'm a New Yorker that would rather live in La La Land than back in the 'old neighborhood.' Fuck the old neighborhood. Small-minded bitter assholes hanging out in dank, old-man bars, drinking from their mugs of sadness and failure as life passes them by. I'm not judging, maybe I'm stereotyping a bit, but I've been there. It smells bad.
"I come from a New York that doesn't exist any more so there's not much for me to miss. I used to miss the restaurants…"

Lordi Reveal "Dark Floors" Trailer
The official "teaser" for "Dark Floors" — the feature film starring the Finnish "monster" metal band LORDI — can be viewed below.
The plot summary is as follows: Concerned for her autistic daughter's health, a father sees her removal from the hospital by force as the only option. An elevator breakdown prevents a smooth exit and renders them trapped with others. Yet the incident is only the beginning of a descent into nightmare. As the doors open, the hospital appears mysteriously deserted. When mutilated bodies are found, creatures from a dark world start a frightening attack. It soon becomes clear that the survival of the group may rest solely on the little girl.
"Dark Floors" was shot in Finland at a cost of 4.2 million euros (approximately $6 million), according to Screen Daily.
The film, which features a largely Finnish cast, will premiere in the country on February 8, 2008.
LORDI recently introduced the film at the Cannes Film Festival.
The movie was described by the band's lead singer, Mr. Lordi, as a "traditional modern horror" that will feature monsters and "horrific scenes."
Mr. Lordi (real name: Tomi Putaansuu) added that the band's latex masks and monstrous costumes were derived from horror films so it was "kind of natural" for them to make their own movie. More...
Obituary Guitarist Checks In
OBITUARY guitarist Ralph Santolla (also ex-DEICIDE, DEATH, ICED EARTH) has issued the following update via his MySpace page:
"OK, first off — I don't know or do any picking excercises! I'm not into that stuff at all. To the people that keep asking 'how do you play arpeggios?' the temptation to post a video on YouTube of myself playing a bunch of arpeggios and saying 'thusly" is almost too strong to resist. It's a stupid question, not to insult anybody, but the answer is so obvious that it makes me almost burst into flames every time I read one of those emails. As with the fast picking stuff or anything else that I've ever played on guitar, I do this: I decide what notes I want to play, then I work on them, LISTENING to what it sounds like, until it sounds like I want it to. Sometimes it takes years. The point is, I don't know ANY secrets about playing guitar, and there's no fairy dust that you can sprinkle on your guitar (or yourself, if that's how you roll) to make you good or great. To master an instrument requires suffering. It is also a process, not something that can ever be finished. In other words, everyone working on it in the world is on the same continuum (?), just at different points along the way. So if you REALLY want to play great, there's only one way — work. It's like trying to take down a mountain with a toothbrush — you can never finish, just scrape a little more every day. That's what I do.
"Having said that, here's a small piece of advice that will instantly make you more musical, and bring out more of each person's unique sound immediately: When you play or practice (any instrument), start and end your phrases before and after the bar line, or the 'one.' Starting and ending phrases within the measure all the time sounds very amateurish, and is especially a bad habit of a lot of metal guitarists,. Try it, and don't spill your beer in the process, another rookie move."

Sirenia Part Ways With Singer
Swedish progressive death metallers THERION have issued the following update:
"Due to musical disagreements singer Monika Pedersen and Sirenia has decided to part ways, here is Monika's statement:
"After much consideration I have chosen to leave Sirenia, but I will continue with music. The reason is, that we have too many musical differences, and I don’t feel like it’s the right band for me. I have had a great time in the band, lots of good experiences and only wish the best for the band in the future.
I want to send a big “Thank You” to all the fans for your support – you haven’t heard the last of me!"
As a result of these circumstances Sirenia will have to pull out of the planned European tour with Therion. The show in Athens will be postponed until may 2008. You have our apologies for this, Sirenia will be back on the road next year. We will use the coming months to find a new singer

Dream Theater Unveil Progressive Nation Tour
New York progressive metal pioneers DREAM THEATER are set to unveil their maiden voyage of "Progressive Nation", a package tour they will headline that will also feature the talents of OPETH, 3 and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME.
The tour is the brainchild of DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy, who explains, "I've been wanting to assemble a package tour like this for many years now. With all of the festivals and package tours that go through America, I've been talking with our manager and agent for over 10 years now about doing something that focuses on the more progressive, musician-oriented side of hard rock and metal. I decided it was time to stop talking the talk, lace up and finally walk the walk."
While DREAM THEATER co-headlined 2005's Gigantour alongside MEGADETH, as well as embarking on previous co-headlining runs with both QUEENSRŸCHE and JOE SATRIANI, they have primarily built their 22-year career on the road playing solely to their own audience. Portnoy comments: "I've always prided myself on personally hand picking new and exciting opening acts for DREAM THEATER in the past. Bands such as PORCUPINE TREE, SYMPHONY X, SPOCK'S BEARD, FATES WARNING, PAIN OF SALVATION and KING'S X. In all of these cases, it was important for me to pick bands that I admire and respect but also ones that I know our fans will enjoy. And I think playing with DT has helped expand all of those band's fanbases as a direct result. I am hoping Progressive Nation will continue to do the same thing in offering an audience for more daring and experimental acts that otherwise may not get the mainstream exposure they so rightly deserve."
Joining the bill for this inaugural run is Sweden's legendary OPETH who have been enjoying an ever-growing and expanding audience of their own for many years now. DT's Roadrunner Records labelmates will be ready to unleash their new album come next spring and Progressive Nation should be a great launching pad for their next world tour cycle. Guitarist/Vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt comments: "We're very excited about this upcoming tour with DREAM THEATER. It will be the first tour that we're doing in support of our upcoming record, and also somewhat of a dream come true personally as I've been a fan of theirs for a long time. It's quite intimidating to be on the bill with such amazing musicians but obviously we'll try and give them a run for their money and pull out a few nice licks of our own. I guess we'll need to practice a little bit for this....how boring! Yet, I can't wait for this tour to start and I'm sure we'll have a blast with the DT guys as well as together with the other bands on the bill!"

Disturbed Frontman Selling House
According to the Los Angeles Times, DISTURBED frontman David Draiman has put his Northridge, California castle, with its turrets, gargoyles, dragons and griffins, on the market at close to $2.9 million. Draiman purchased the residence for $2.5 million in 2005.
The six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home, a former nondescript tract house that was transformed in 1992 by former owners with a fascination for medieval themes, has barrel-vaulted halls, a great room with 24-foot-high ceiling, theater chandeliers and secret doors behind bookcases.
There is a 6,800-square-foot main house, plus a guesthouse with a full kitchen, a tennis court, a pool with a lap lane and an exercise room with an office.
It seems that the only missing feature is a moat, but there is a koi pond, a wooden bridge, a waterfall and a large sculpture of a dragon in the frontyard.
Earlier this year, the 34-year-old frontman took a helicopter to a New Zealand winery, had a private cruise in an $8-million yacht and went scuba diving in Australia.
DISTURBED has set "Indestructible" as the tentative title of its new album, which is slated for release in the spring. According to David Draiman, the follow-up to 2005's "Ten Thousand Fists" — which has sold close to 1.5 million copies in the U.S. alone — is "dark, very dark," lyrically as well as musically. In fact, Draiman believes it's much more complex and foreboding than anything they have done during their 10 years together.
"Dude, I've had a fucked-up couple of years," he told MTV.com. "All kinds of horrible stuff went on. Bad breakups; I've had my garage burn down with all of my vehicles in it; I had a bad motorcycle accident that took off a whole bunch of skin from my forearm — just bad luck. It's been a fierce past couple of years, and all kinds of shit has gone down. This is therapy, man — I need to get this shit out of me."

Decapitated To Raise Money For Victims Families
DECAPITATED's official MySpace page has been update with the following message:
"We are getting ready to organize a special sale with original DECAPITATED gear (some of which was actually used in the recording studio) limited/never before printed T-shirts and merch, other one-of-a-kind memorabilia, and gifts from our friends in other bands to help raise money for Vitek's and Covan's families. For those who would like to make donations directly, there will be more information posted in a few days, so please keep checking back with us. Every effort, big or small, counts for something!"
DECAPITATED drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka died late last week at the age of 23 in a Russian hospital from injuries sustained in a recent road collision. DECAPITATED singer Covan (real name: Adrian Kowanek) was also hurt in the accident, which involved the band's tour bus and a truck carrying wood in Gomel, on the Russia/Belarus border. The frontman reportedly also sustained a head injury in the collision, which is believed to have been the fault of the band's driver (although this has not yet been officially confirmed).
Covan's family released a statement on Thursday (November 1) that the vocalist's condition had improved. At the time, the singer was still said to be at a hospital in Novozybkov, Russia, where he and Vitek were taken following the accident.
The Absence Announce New Drummer
Tampa, Florida's THE ABSENCE has announced the addition of former YETI drummer Chris Pistillo to the group's ranks.
Commented THE ABSENCE guitarist Patrick Pintavalle: "[Chris] may not be as well known… yet. However, he is wicked awesome on the skins and he actually plays blast beats and has super quick double bass and if he decides to stick around be apart of this band I am positive that the next record will crush souls."
THE ABSENCE recently posted its cover of TESTAMENT's "Into the Pit" on the band's MySpace page. Sepultura Frontman Checks In From Bangalore
SEPULTURA frontman Derrick Green has posted the fifth entry in an ongoing tour diary covering the band's first-ever appearance in India. An excerpt follows:
"Day 9 - November 3, 2007 Bangalore: I started my day with the idea of wanting to see a place called Bull Temple. I read about it before and wanted to check it out along with any other places in the area. Jean [Dolabella, drums] was down to go so we got a driver and did a quick day tour of the city. The driver took us to a few places before Bull Temple — one was the India Parliament building which was an impressive site. The other places I don't remember but were smaller temples where the people were praying to either Ganish the elephant god or Shiva. We were the only gringos present and were asked all the time for money no matter what we did. When we took off our shoes to enter the temple, the guy who asked us to take them off wanted money. If we asked a question to someone then they would want money for their response.
"Bull Temple was very cool to see it was covered in this dark oil and gigantic in size. The priest blessed us and put a red dot on me Jean's forehead then asked for money. The driver then took us to a the botanical garden which is filled with every type of tree and plant you couldn't possibly imagine. To walk around would have taken hours so we decided to get our own cart of course with a driver from the garden who we couldn't understand a word he said. It seemed like we were the only ones with a cart and people stared on as we raced paced them. The park was filled with lovers all over and it was the first time that I saw men giving women affection in public. We kept asking our driver to slow down and explain some the surroundings but I'm not sure he knew too much. In the end he asked for a tip, which we declined to give him. We had no problem letting him know that he wasn't a very good tour guide.
"We left to go do soundcheck in an area when you drive into has a gang of dogs lying all around that look close to death and they are spread out everywhere. I start to see people waiting for the show and the sound is the best we have had the whole tour.
"The shows start early in India, which is a good thing because everyone, including ourselves, are filled with more energy. This time the crowd is a little closer to the stage and there are more people then all of the shows we have played. It's good to be able to see the faces and the reaction to certain songs I don't want it to end and the feeling of having to come back to this wonderful mystical places is overwhelming.
I can't help feel that coming here has added to the evolution of SEPULTURA which can never be denied or forgotten."

In a recent interview with Romania's Metalhead TV, SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser stated about the band's current touring/recording plans, "Our intention, really, is to play as much as we can to prepare this band to start writing new material. So we're gonna start writing a new album at the end of the year, hopefully to release next year, sometime in the second [half of 2008]."
Back in March, SEPULTURA filmed the second video from their "Dante XXI" album, for the song "Ostia". The clip was shot at a studio in São Paulo prior to the band's departure for their European tour. During the following week, the video crew and the main actor shot the outdoor scenes in downtown São Paulo. The script, which adapts the story from the book "The Divine Comedy" to the modern days, was directed by Geraldo Moraes.

"We have now rescheduled this show to take place, at the same venue, on December 10th.
"In doing so I was very conscious of the fact that many people are travelling great distances to attend. I do want to let everyone know that this decision was unavoidable. My apologies to anyone who has been inconvenienced by this change.

Evile Guitarist Comments On Sanctity Tour
Fresh from taking the UK by storm on a recent tour with US metallers SANCTITY and ROMEO MUST DIE, EVILE guitarist Ol Drake has spoken out about how the fast-rising Huddersfield thrashers found the tour:

The brutality of the thrashers coming out to see them was definitely in full force, as Ol recounts an instance at a show in Scotland. He explains:
