Woe Of Tyrants Sign With Metal Blade Records

Metal Blade Records has announce the signing of Chillicothe, Ohio's WOE OF TYRANTS.

According to a press release, WOE OF TYRANTS is "comprised of five guys dead-set on playing metal the way they want to, never listening or caring what scene they belong to or what sells the most records; who mix the best of death, thrash, and power metal in a concoction that defies pigeon-holing. Mix the vintage sounds of TESTAMENT and METALLICA, brutal death metal, epic power metal, and even some southern fried flair thrown on top, and you have what has become known as WOE OF TYRANTS."

Commented the band: "We are extremely excited about working with Metal Blade and feel that we have a lot to offer the label and more importantly the heavy metal community all together. We feel Metal Blade has our best interests at heart as they've shown their dedication to their artists and fans by releasing some of the best metal in the world for decades. We have always stuck with our guns when writing and performing our music, refusing to give into any of the trends or clichés that pop-up in the heavy music genre and are very thankful that Metal Blade has not let this go unnoticed. We are prepared to unleash the best and most crushing material we've written thus far and hope to reach as many people possible with our music. We are blessed to have such an opportunity. Keep a lookout for our debut, and lots of touring, this is only the beginning!" More...

Maiden and Metallica To Be In Rush Documentary

Micol Marotti of PlaybackMag.com reports that boutique distributor Grindstone Media is hoping to have a hit on its hands with "Rush: The Documentary". The $1.5 million feature doc about the famed rock band is produced and directed by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn — the creative team behind the 2005's "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" — and executive produced by Grindstone president Paul Zimic.

McFadyen — currently in Helsinki, Finland with RUSH's Snakes & Arrows tour — finds it ironic that despite the band's influence on groups as diverse as the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and METALLICA, that this will be the first in-depth look at its history and influence.

"Most Canadians are aware of RUSH, but I don't think that the degree of their success or influence on the international music scene is recognized or respected. We're talking about a group that is ranked fifth in the world for most consecutive gold and platinum albums behind groups like THE BEATLES and the STONES," he says.

The doc will include new interviews with some of rock's biggest names — including members of METALLICA, NIRVANA and IRON MAIDEN — plus never-before-seen footage shot by singer Geddy Lee himself, which Grindstone hopes will attract Canadian broadcasters.

Dillinger Escape Plan Post Another New Song Online

Another new THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN track, entitled "Horse Hunter" (featuring a guest appearance by MASTODON's Brent Hinds), has been posted at this location. Also available is video footage of the band rehearsing a new song called "Party Smasher". Watch the clip below.

Both cuts come off THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's new album, "Ire Works", due on November 13 through Relapse Records. The CD was recorded with long-time engineer Steve Evetts at his Omen Room Studios in Los Angeles, CA.

"Ire Works" track listing:

01. Fix Your Face
02. Lurch
03. Black Bubblegum
04. Sick On Sunday
05. When Acting As A Particle
06. Nong Eye Gong
07. When Acting As A Wave
08. 82588
09. Milk Lizard
10. Party Smasher
11. Dead As History
12. Horse Hunter
13. Mouth Of Ghosts

According to Headbanger's Blog, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN began shooting two videos from "Ire Works" on September 28 with producer/director Ilan Sharone (STOLEN BABIES, ZEBRAHEAD).

The less complex of the two will be "Milk Lizard", a bizarre hybrid of performance video and surreal concept clip, in which an ordinary bar fight turns into the oddest ride of a chair's life. "I wanted to leave the bar environment by shooting what the viewer thinks is a normal looking performance video," Sharone told Headbanger's Blog. "Once the fight breaks out, a chair is thrown at a guy and flies out of the bar, taking on a life of its own. We see the chair go through the streets and town until it finally comes to the aid of an elderly lady who desperately needs a chair to sit on."

The other video — for the track "Black Bubblegum" – makes the first look like something by BREAKING BENJAMIN. "'Black Bubblegum' has a 'Twilight Zone' look and feel to it with an added touch of the extra-bizarre," Sharone says.

Deftones Frontman Talks About New Material

DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno has told MTV.com that the group's fans can expect the follow-up to 2006's "Saturday Night Wrist" to be on store shelves by fall 2008. According to Moreno, the band has spent about six weeks writing for it and wants to spend the next three coming up with even more material.

"The band's been working really good together and utilizing our time really well," he said. "We have a little more than half an album's worth of material right now — written completely. We plan to have a record's worth of material written before the holidays, and we'll start recording at the beginning of next year.

"The last two records have been a lot more impersonal," Moreno continued. "Once we started using computers, it got super impersonal. Everybody would come in separately and do their parts. We looked back to our sophomore album, where we wrote and recorded it and mixed it in four months, and that's still one of my favorite records we've ever done. We want to work in that way [again], all together in one room, and we just play everything until it's memorized, and then we'll record it live. That's what we did with our first records."

Moreno said he won't be contributing guitars to the yet-untitled LP, and he feels that aids the creative process. "[Guitarist] Stephen [Carpenter] has been writing tons of songs, and he's got some really great ideas," Moreno said. "I don't think I'm slowing things down by trying to change everything in the midst of writing it — I am letting them write the music, and I'll take care of the vocals."

The singer said the material the band has come up with so far is "dance-y" and "way uptempo-ish, which is kind of neat."

"[Drummer] Abe [Cunningham] is playing really, really fast, and I like that," Moreno said. "It's way more energetic. Our last couple of records have been more midtempo, which is the stuff I tend to write. But on this record, everything is more snappy."

Sebastian Bach Track Leaked To Huge Response

Former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach's version of AEROSMITH's "Back in the Saddle", one of three tracks on Bach's forthcoming CD "Angel Down" that features GUNS N' ROSES' Axl Rose on vocals, has leaked and was played a few times late last week on an Active Rock station in Texas. According to the station's rep, the phones went off the hook when the song was played and it became the station's #1 most requested track!

Sebastian got the cover of his new CD, "Angel Down", tattooed on his arm by tattoo artist extraordinaire Kat Von D on the October 23 episode of "LA Ink". Watch the segment below.

The cover art for "Angel Down" is an original painting by Bach's late father, the celebrated Canadian artist David Bierk who died in 2002. The painting, entitled "David Watching", was painted in 1990, so an emotional choice for Bach. Bierk also created the cover artwork for SKID ROW's 1991 album "Slave To The Grind", which Rolling Stone voted one of the top 5 album covers of the year. His paintings have been exhibited in art galleries all over North America.

Bach will release "Angel Down" on November 20. The album was produced by Roy Z (BRUCE DICKINSON, HALFORD, JUDAS PRIEST), and recorded at Sound City Studios and Under City Studios in Los Angeles, CA. Joining Bach in the studio were guitarists "Metal" Mike Chlasciak and Johnny Chromatic, Bobby Jarzombek on drums, and Steve DiGiorgio on bass. GUNS N' ROSES' Axl Rose makes a special guest appearance contributing vocals on three of the album's songs — "(Love is a) Bitchslap", a cover of AEROSMITH's "Back In the Saddle" and "Stuck Inside". Mercenary Vocalist Issues Recording Update

Vocalist Mikkel Sandager of the Danish metallers MERCENARY has issued the following update:

"Right now I have finished my third day of recording the vocals for the next MERCENARY album.

"As always, it is very very exciting to be allowed to make the vocals for such talented made music. They have done it again, I truly believe. But as always, it is seriously hard work.

"After the first three days I have completed the clean parts for four songs... so only seven to go!

"I am really looking forward to hearing the finished result as I am doing all my tracking to drums and guitar tracks only.

"Gotta go, boys and girls... 10 hours of recording takes its toll."

"The Hours That Remain" entered the national album chart in Denmark at position No. 67. The follow-up to 2004's "11 Dreams" was produced by Jacob Hansen (RAUNCHY, COMMUNIC, MAROON, HATESPHERE) and features artwork by Travis Smith (DEATH, KATATONIA, OPETH). Guest musicians on the CD include SOILWORK's Björn "Speed" Strid and HEAVEN SHALL BURN's Marcus Bischoff.

New King Diamond Video In Final Editing Phase

KING DIAMOND's video for the song "Give Me Your Soul" is now in the final editing phase and is expected to be released around Halloween. The band's first clip in 17 years was shot in September with director Bill Schacht from video company Aestheticom, which has previously worked with DIO, ALICE COOPER and DREAM THEATER, among other artists. Speaking to MTV.com, the group's frontman/namesake — who is currently suffering from a herniated disc — said about the video shoot, "They limited what I had to do, of course, so I only did one day of shooting for 90 minutes, but just standing there moving a little bit in the full outfit was very difficult. And afterwards, I got one of those sharp attacks of pain that I hadn't had in a month and a half. The only thing I can compare it to is a really super-bad toothache or earache. And afterwards, I was like, 'OK, I'm not ready [to tour] yet.' "

KING DIAMOND's latest album, "Give Me Your Soul ... Please" entered the Swedish national chart at position No. 28. The CD also landed at No. 58 on the Danish chart (the second highest new entry on the chart behind VELVET REVOLVER).

"Give Me Your Soul ... Please" sold 4,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 174 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Wednesday 13 Cancels Last Two Tour Dates

Due to a death in the family, Wednesday 13 (ex-MURDERDOLLS) will not play the final two shows of the U.S. Ghouls On Parade tour. The overseas shows will not be affected by this.

Fans are advised to call the venues to see if the other bands on the tour are still performing.

The affected dates are as follows:

Oct. 29 - Hangar - New Orleans, Louisiana
Oct. 31 - Ground Zero - Spartanburg, South Carolina

Horror High, LLC has set a February 5, 2008 U.S. release date for Wednesday 13's video project "Weirdo-A-Go-Go". This will be Horror High, LLC's first release to be distributed by Caroline/EMI.

Horror High, LLC is still looking for the right company to partner with for distribution overseas.

"Weirdo-A-Go-Go" features the campy and morbid sense of humor that any fans of Wednesday 13 can expect. In the first two episodes, Wednesday 13 hosts clips and trailers of cheap horror flicks, along with performing schlocky but witty skits with his strange and wacky sidekicks. The program promises to resurrect the tradition of Saturday morning TV shows that Wednesday 13 grew up on — the random creations of Sid and Marty Krofft and Pee Wee's Playhouse mixed with the comedic approach of horror hosts Commander USA, Elvira, and Zacherely. The project was shot by Rafa of Core Entertainment, Inc. Rafa is most noted for the video and web site projects he has done for AVENGED SEVENFOLD, EVANESCENCE, ROB ZOMBIE, DISTURBED, STATIC-X and the Dimebag tribute bracelet.

WEDNESDAY 13 (ex-MURDERDOLLS) will release his already completed new album, "Skeletons", in March/April 2008. "We have been meeting with various record labels and want to make sure we find the right home," reads a posting on Wednesday's MySpace page. "We want to give the new record label as much time as needed to really set up the CD. This CD is very personal to W13 and he wants to make sure it gets the proper attention." Tentative songtitles set to appear on the album include "From Here to the Hearse", "Dead Carolina", "All American Massacre" and "Not Another Teenage Anthem".

Certain Clothing Banned At Alice Cooper Show

According to Matthew Atkins from Icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk, fans of MOTÖRHEAD and ALICE COOPER have been promised an evening of relentless, ear-splintering dirty rock ‘n’ roll experience at the NEC Arena concert next month.

They have also been told they cannot wear studded belts, large rings, trouser chains or dog collars.

While the stars on stage can wear more or less whatever they like in keeping with their chosen image, fans going along to their November 10 concert had beware - if you're sporting any of the above paraphernalia or other items dedicated rockers wouldn't be seen without, be prepared for them to be confiscated at the door.

All in the name of health and safety.

"To ensure the comfort and well-being of our visitors, the NEC group does not permit any item to be taken into the venue that could be considered a potential safety risk to any member of the public," said a spokesman.

Dark Funeral Video To Be Released Online Tomorrow

DARK FUNERAL's video for the song "Attera Totus Sanctus" will premiere at midnight on Tuesday/Wednesday, October 30-31 at BoneyardPress.net.

"I originally intended to have this video finished during the summer," said Boneyard Press president Hart D. Fisher. "But Shane [Bugbee, director of 'Club Satan') dropped out of the project and my wife's recovery from cancer has been much more difficult than we'd expected. I had to go it alone, but the delay gave me a chance to put together three separate cuts of the video. One is your R-rated cut, the other is your average XXX, but the third cut, man that's some taboo-busting s**t going on. Only the band and Rob Black are going to be given copies of that version."

"Attera Totus Sanctus" will play all day on Halloween until the witching hour, when the video will be pulled from the web site. "So you better get your pain while we're dishing it out," warns Fisher.

Hart D. Fisher is an underground horror legend with a worldwide following. He recently finished co-producing the world's first feature horror film ("The Bunker") written and directed by a blind director, Joseph M. Monks. Fisher is currently working on his next feature film project, "13 Bloody Kisses", distributing his first feature film "The Garbage Man", running his post-production house Crime Pays Inc. and is supervising the translation of his book "Poems for the Dead" into Spanish for publication in Bolivia.

Tool Frontman 'Taking Over' XM Channel 48 Tomorrow

Maynard James Keenan (PUSCIFER, TOOL, A PERFECT CIRCLE) will seize control of XM 48 Squizz tomorrow (Tuesday, October 30) at 3:00 p.m. ET. He will play various tracks off the new PUSCIFER full-length CD, "V is for Vagina". "We're sure Maynard has something up his sleeve other than just introducing songs as well," says XM 48 Squizz's Program Director Bodhi.

PUSCIFER is streaming its debut album, "V is for Vagina", in its entirety at this location. Due on October 30, the record features contributions from a number of artists, including PRIMUS drummer Tim Alexander, ex-NINE INCH NAILS member Danny Lohner, producer Alan Moulder and actress Milla Jovovich. The first single is called "Queen B." (view video below).

Maynard James Keenan recently told The Pulse of Radio that PUSCIFER has been around in one form or another since the early '90s, when a version of the outfit would perform at a Los Angeles comedy club. But Keenan said that PUSCIFER is much more than just another band to him. "Absolutely," he said. "This is much more of just a collaborative, creative outlet on all levels with various people, and hopefully with this new digital age, it'll be something that starts to kind of set a precedent for how other people work with other people, free from label contracts and just kind of express to express, and not really worry about taking over the world with it."

Keenan also has a merchandise company under the PUSCIFER banner, and plans to make several short films as part of the project.

TOOL will begin what could be its final tour in support of 2006's "10,000 Days" on November 14 in Austin, Texas.

According to a posting on ICED EARTH's official web site, the band is planning on hitting the road in the U.S. in March/April 2008, to be followed by tours in Australia, Canada, Japan and Russia, among other countries. More details will be announced soon.

ICED EARTH's new song "Framing Armageddon" has been posted on the band's MySpace page. The track comes off the group's new album, "Framing Armageddon - Something Wicked Part I", which sold 7,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 78 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD is the follow-up to 2004's "The Glorious Burden", which has shifted more than 70,000 copies in the U.S. to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

ICED EARTH's official web site, IcedEarth.com, has posted a 33-minute minute audio interview it conducted with Jon Schaffer on September 24, 2007. Topics covered in the interview include the relevance of chart positions in the Internet age, the impact of illegal music downloads on the band's touring schedule, "Something Wicked Part II" recording update, the upcoming November UK tour with HEAVEN AND HELL, touring in 2008, and future plans for the "Set Abominae"/"Something Wicked" storyline.

"Framing Armageddon" will be followed in February/March 2008 by the band's ninth full-length studio release, tentatively titled "Revelation Abomination - Something Wicked Part 2" , continuing where "Framing Armageddon" leaves off.

Slash Schedules New York City In Store Appearance

Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash will make an in-store appearance tomorrow (Tuesday, October 30) at 7:00 p.m. at Barnes & Noble (4 Astor Place) in New York City.

For more information, call 212-420-1322.

Slash — real name Saul Hudson — quit GUNS N' ROSES in 1996 after falling out with singer Axl Rose for the umpteenth time.

But the guitarist, who now plays in VELVET REVOLVER, claims he has tried to make sure his new book, "Slash", is as even-handed as possible.

He says, "This is not a vehicle for me to vent. It's not to lambast Axl or to talk shit about anybody else. It's just telling the story as I knew it."

In a recent interview with E! Online, Slash said the book will include a bunch of stuff about his years with GUNS 'N' ROSES, but not necessarily because he was feeling nostalgic on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of "Appetite for Destruction".

"I never wanted to write a book, because it would be too final," Slash explained. "The only reason I wrote it is because a lot of the stuff I was reading and seeing about the band got pretty frustrating. I just had to straighten out some shit."

"It almost reads like a journal, except for the fact that I never wrote anything down," Slash said. "It was a hard book to make, because I was pretty fucked up from 1980 to 2000-something. I really had to dig deep to try and remember a lot of shit."

Byzantine Announce Release Date For New Album

West Virginia's forward-thinking thrashers BYZANTINE will release their new album, "Oblivion Beckons", on January 22, 2008 via Prosthetic Records. Two songs from the CD are available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. According to a press release, the tracks "Nadir" and "Expansion and Collapse" showcase "the wider range" that BYZANTINE has pursued on its newest release. The album's cover artwork was created by Donnie Searls, who also directed the band's "Jeremiad" video and the "Salvation" DVD.

Regarding the musical direction of "Oblivion Beckons", BYZANTINE frontman OJ Ojeda previously said, "We took a couple different paths on this one, stripping down some things like the vocals for a more aggressive style and then going out on a limb on some other things we have never tried before. This album is more varied than anything we have done prior and, clocking in at around an hour, should have more than enough metal for all our friends and fans."

"Oblivion Beckons" track listing (in alphabetical order):

01. Absolute Horizon
02. All Hail the Endtimes
03. A Residual Haunting
04. Catalyst
05. Centurion
06. Deep End of Nothing
07. Expansion and Collapse
08. Nadir
09. Oblivion Beckons
10. Pattern Recognition
11. Receiving End of Murder
12. The Gift of Discernment

"Oblivion Beckons" is the follow-up to 2005's "...And They Shall Take Up Serpents", which received critical acclaim for progressive song structures and thrash-oriented musicianship.

Piledriver Issue Update

Canuck metal legends PILEDRIVER issue the following update:

"Kinky (guitars, vocals) here to give you an update on the recording of our Metal Manifesto album. Well, where to start. OK, to say that I'm pleased with the results so far would be a BIG understatement!! I truly feel that something magical and very metal was captured last night. Our original goal for the day was to go in and track drums and maybe some bass guitar for four songs...but instead we got far more done. In fact we got drums, bass guitar, rhythm guitars and vocals for 4 songs done. Plus I was able to get guitar solos done for two songs. So I think it's safe to say we are ahead of schedule. Oh, I know some of you are probably wondering what songs we tackled so far. They would be: 'Metal Manifesto', 'Blood Bath', 'Saw Your Face' and 'Battle Axe'. We are scheduled to return to the studio in the middle of November to continue tracking another four songs at this rate we should (keep your fingers crossed) be done by Christmas. Well that's all for now...I will post another blog now with photos and more comments."

Vanmakt Postpone Swedish Dates

Mainman Gorgoth of the Swedish black metal band VANMAKT has issued the following update:

"Due to that Gráal had major surgery this week and that his doctor told him to rest, we have to postpone our gigs in Västervik, Falun and Sundsvall in the end of November. We will try to re-schedule the dates to the spring of 2008, but as of right now we will not play any gigs, at least not this year. Gráal needs his rest and he will get it. Nightwish's New Album is Certified Gold In Sweden

NIGHTWISH's new album, "Dark Passion Play", has been certified gold in Sweden for sales in excess of 30,000 copies. The CD, which has already achieved triple-platinum status in Finland after selling more than 90,000 copies, has shifted 20,000 units in the United States since its October 2, 2007 release.

A brand new audio interview with Anette Olzon conducted on October 15, 2007 in West Springfield, Virginia has been posted online at MetalExposed.com.

In an interview with ChartAttack.com, NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen broke down why so many people have embraced NIGHTWISH's music: "Our music is very diverse. There's the real heavy stuff, there's a lot of ballads as well, and the hybrid of orchestra with guitars, so it's a little bit for everybody, I guess.

"I think it's the honesty of the music. We've never followed any trends. We've always done things our own way. People have inner feelings when they sense what's real and what's not. Even though we are kind of childish and kind of a naive band, there is a lot of honesty, and that's what people can appreciate."
