The demo was later issued as a MCD by the German label Northern Silence Productions, and it was also released on tape by two different labels. Aeon Part Ways With Drummer and Seek Replacement
Swedish metallers AEON have issued the following update:
"The whole process of completing the writing of [the new AEON album] 'Rise to Dominate', as long with the booking of studio, the recording and the production of it was all planned by AEON and by Metal Blade to work out with their 25th anniversary tour in the U.S. 'Rise to Dominate' was released in the U.S. on September 4th, and the tour began on September 6th. That would have been a killer start!!!
"But after Nils [Fjellström; drums] joined DARK FUNERAL, and elected to go on their tour, and to cancel AEON's important spot on the bill of the anniversary tour with CANNIBAL CORPSE among others, it looked to us and many others that he made a big statement how he was going to prior AEON further on."
"Anyway, he did tell us after a few days that he could not live with the idea of having someone else playing the drums with AEON (which had been the discussion over these days), and we thought it was true. He had a big idea how he would plan everything and how history would not repeat itself again with canceled tours etc…" More...

New Serj Tankian Video Posted Online
The third video has been released from Serj Tankian's upcoming solo album, "Elect the Dead". The "Saving Us" clip — which was directed by acclaimed rock photographer Kevin Estrada — can be viewed below.
The SYSTEM OF A DOWN vocalist will hold a series of "theatre listening parties" around the country on October 22 where all 12 videos from "Elect the Dead" will be screened. Tankian enlisted video and film directors, painters and digital artists to each create a different short film for the dozen tracks on the record.
Tankian, who financed the clips himself, told The Pulse of Radio it's much simpler these days to make creative, low-budget videos on your own. "I mean, the technology's out there and the artists are out there, and there's a lot of creative people and it's not just about using typical MTV directors or well-known people because they've done it before," he said. "It's about using people with a passion, and that passion is really coming through and I've seen some of the best MTV-style videos I've ever seen in my life through some of these friends of ours that have done these videos. It's amazing."
The directors involved in the project include a prestigious array of artists whom Tankian has befriended over the last decade. They include music video director Tony Petrossian (TAKING BACK SUNDAY, SLIPKNOT, AVENGED SEVENFOLD), who shot the video for "Empty Walls", the first single from "Elect The Dead", photographer/video director Greg Watermann (MUDVAYNE, LAMB OF GOD, HOWIE DAY), Oscar-nominated Puerto Rican playwright and screenwriter Jose Rivera ("The Motorcycle Diaries"), French film director Diran Noubar ("Armenia: A Country Under Blockade"), digital artist Roger Kupelian ("The Lord of the Rings"; "Flags of Our Fathers"), documentary director Sevag Vrej (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, FAIR TO MIDLAND), and Beirut-born filmmaker Gariné Torossian (SPARKLEHORSE), among others.
"Elect the Dead" arrives on October 23.

Nine Inch Nails Prepare To Enter Studio
According to Billboard.com, NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor is about to get busy in the studio working on the follow-up to this year's "Year Zero", a process he couldn't begin until the expiration of the band's deal with Interscope due to contractual reasons. In addition, Billboard understands Reznor, in keeping with past practices, will not decide how to actually release, market and promote the next album until the music is finished.
There will be new NINE INCH NAILS product before the end of the year, however. The remix album "Y34RZ3R0R3MIX3D" is due November 20 via Interscope and feature remakes of "Year Zero" songs by Fennesz, the Faint, Ladytron and Saul Williams, among others.
Interscope holds the rights to release a greatest hits collection at some point in the future, but it is unknown when such a project could see the light of day. It is also unclear what the fate would be of any potential NINE INCH NAILS archival releases, particularly if the material was recorded during the band's Interscope tenure.
Venom Drummer Comments On New Material
Metal Hell magazine recently conducted an interview with VENOM drummer Antony "Antton" Lant (brother of VENOM frontman Conrad "Cronos" Lant). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
On the addition of "Rage" on guitar:
"We have known Rage for quite a while now; just like (when) I used to rehearse with my brother before I was in the band we used Rage to rehearse when Mykvs was in the states Rage would come along to rehearsals and we would go through the set. Rage is a great guy and a great guitarist; he plays the old songs very much like the early VENOM guitarist, (with) lots of dive bombs."
In regards to how the new VENOM material is shaping up;
"I am really happy with the way things are going. It's great to get in and blast through the tracks as a band. You hear of so many bands now writing bits and pieces and sticking them together in ProTools. I think you loose the energy and enthusiasm like that."
On what type of production he might prefer on the next album;
"We were really happy with the production on 'Metal Black'. Some people used to complain about the production on the early albums and when we recorded 'Resurrection' people said it was too produced. You can't please everybody. For 'Metal Black' we went in like bands would years ago and basically recorded the tracks. Some of my favorite albums to date are older albums like AC/DC or VAN HALEN or even KISS."
On his opinion on the current releases by HELLYEAH and MACHINE HEAD:
"It's great to see Vinnie [Paul, ex-PANTERA and current HELLYEAH drummer] playing again; he is one of, if not THE, biggest influence on my playing. I started playing drums along to Phil Rudd, Tommy Lee and Eric Carr, but Vinnie made me get heavy for sure. I play drums in another band called DEF-CON-ONE and we used to do 'Fucking Hostile' live then we started doing 'Strength Beyond Strength'. Vinnie rules and he is a really good friend. MACHINE HEAD are awesome. I think Dave McClain should have some serious coverage in the drum magazines. He is an awesome drummer. He has his own style. When you put a MACHINE HEAD album on you can tell it's them even before Robb [Flynn] starts singing; now that's rare. There are too many metal bands out now with the same guitar sound, the same drum sound and the same production. You get these free CDs in metal mags and sometimes it's hard to know who's who without checking the cover."
Manes Recording New Material
Experimental band Manes is currently in the process of recording some new songs. The Norwegian group has issued the following update:
"Well, we've actually started a little recording now. We have no planned release date or much more to share about this, apart from the fact that it isn't for a new album. An EP maybe, or something similar. We'll again be collaborating with new people on different things for this, among others two vocalists. The way things seem right now it's likely to be a blast (from the past). Grim reality unveils! Anyway, if things go the way we envisage this; we'll also record some other stuff at the same time (a re-recording and a cover maybe), but more about that later. We're also working on our next album 'Be all End all' now, but we Will finish the stuff we're working on right now before we continue with that."
Eternal Reign Announce New Drummer
German power metallers ETERNAL REIGN have announced the addition of drummer Lennart Medebach to the group's ranks. The band is currently working on its as-yet-untitled third album, tentatively due next year. The band also record a cover version of another '80s classic — possibly a track from LETHAL, but this is not yet confirmed.

Amon Amarth Bus Breaks Down
Swedish metallers AMON AMARTH have been forced to cancel tonight's concert in Madrid, Spain with DIMMU BORGIR and ENGEL. According to a press release, "the band's bus broke down so that they won't be able to make it to the venue in time!"
A Nude Headbanger: The Neighbor From Hell
A heavy metal fan who headbanged naked in his flat and deafened neighbours with loud music has been rocked with a £3,000 fine.
Simon Bowker made life miserable for folk in Upper Wellington Road, Brighton, blasting out tunes late into the night.
When Environmental health oficers went to investigate, they spotted the 26-year-old dancing around in the flesh from the pavement outside.
Bowker, 27 Upper Wellington Road, Brighton, failed to appear at a hearing at Brighton Magistrates' Court, where he was fined and ordered to pay £1,000 costs.
Len Batten, prosecuting for Brighton and Hove City Council, told the court neighbours in the flats called the council's noise patrol team on September 1 when the music was so loud they could not hear their own televisions.
Council officers Mike Greenwood and James Rawlinson, could hear music in every room when they went into the neighbouring flat and said neighbours would not have been able to sleep because of the disturbance.
The pair managed to attract Bowker's attention and he opened the front door after putting on a pair of jeans, said Mr Batten.
He appeared to be drunk and leant on the wall for support as the officers spoke to him.
The incident was the latest in a series of complaints about noise from the property. At the hearing, on Tuesday, Bowker was was found guilty in his absence of three charges of breaching a noise abatement notice - which was served on him in June.
The other two charges related to Bowker breaching the noise abatement notice by allowing his dog to bark continuously and playing loud music on, August 31.
Bowker was fined £1,000 for each offence, ordered to pay £1,000 council costs and £50 towards the Victim Support Scheme.
After the hearing Councillor Geoffrey Theobald, chairman of Brighton and Hove City Council's environment committee, said: "The fines imposed in this case send out a clear message that this sort of noise nuisance is clearly not acceptable.
"It makes other people's lives a misery and will not be tolerated."
Last night one of Bowker's neighbours, who did not want to be named, said: "It's about time. It's been a nightmare living here over the past few months.
"Hopefully this fine will finally make him see sense. Or at least change his taste in music."
Nick Barker Speaks On Testament Situation
It was also reported that Nick Barker (ex-DIMMU BORGIR, CRADLE OF FILTH) will not be recording with Testament on this new album, due to "Homeland Security and International Work Visa issues".
Barker has since issued the following statement:
"On July 8th, 2007, after returning back to the US with Testament from a very successful appearance at Waldrock Open Air festival in Burgum, Holland, I was refused entry into the United States of America (Minneapolis en route to San Francisco) due to not having the appropriate Visa requirements at that time and I tried to enter the good 'ol U.S. of A. as a tourist.
Biggest most stupidest mistake in the history of big, stupid mistakes!!!
Suspicious US Immigration officials smelled a rat in their midst and so after some hard line questioning along with further investigations, decided to send me back to where I came from (Amsterdam, Holland). I was then police escorted (in hand cuffs) like a criminal onto the next flight available back to the Netherlands.
The look of shock, terror, disgust and overwhelming concern on the other passengers faces as I was marched onto the plane to my designated seat was one I will never forget. Who can blame them, watching a six foot, three hundred pound (plus change) man, with a skinhead hair-do, covered in tattoos boarding a commercial Trans-Atlantic flight in such an unorthodox manner. Indeed!!!!!
This unfortunate decision by US Immigration and Homeland Security officials well and truly put me on Uncle Sam's shit list until I acquire the correct Visa which allows me to enter the US and perform as an international artist/entertainer on American soil again.Their final judgment also determined my "NO SHOW" on all of the scheduled US East Coast dates Testament had booked in July (Sound Of The Underground, etc) and so drumming powerhouse Paul Bostaph stepped in on my behalf, which by all accounts did an excellent job and literally tore shit up!!!
Due to the expense and processing/turn around time needed for the appropriate Visa under these circumstances it is with great disappointment and deep filled sadness to inform you all that I am no longer involved in the making of the new Testament record, due for worldwide release in late spring of 2008 through Nuclear Blast Records and that Mr. Bostaph has taken over all drum duties on this project.
It makes perfect sense all round to utilize the services and phenomenal skills of Bostaph who is already in the Bay Area, as well as being a long time friend of the band and myself.
Therefore I would like to take this oppertunity to thank Paul for taking over and wish him nothing but the best of luck on this project and all future endeavours.
....And of course, last but in no way least, a very special heart-warmed "thank you" to Testament and crew for an absolutely fantastic time spent on the road (Australia, South America, Asia, Europe & the US) as well as many hours endured in the studio during pre-production sessions for the new album which will be, without a doubt, one of the best, if not THE BEST album release of 2008.
Spring time will never be the same again!!!!"

RIAA Wins First Music-Sharing Jury Trial
The Recording Industry of America won its first jury trial against an individual accused of illegally downloading music.
A federal jury fined Jammie Thomas, 30, of Minnesota $220,000 in damages to the six record labels suing her for copyright violation. Thomas will pay $9,250 for each of the 24 songs the prosecution focused on for the case. The RIAA alleges she shared over 1,702 songs in all over the Kazaa peer-to-peer network. Read more about the case here.
Thomas denied any wrongdoing over the course of the three day trial. Her attorney, Brian Toder, argued that although the prosecution had fingered her screen name and IP address, they had little proof it was Thomas behind the keyboard — or that music was actually shared with anyone over the account. Toder suggested Thomas may have been victim to a spoofer, cracker or other malicious intrusion of her home network.
US District Judge Michael Davis ruled the labels did not have to prove the songs were transfered for Thomas to be held liable. The act of making the songs available is enough to constitute copyright infringement, he said.
Davis instructed the 12-member jury the range of the fine was $750 to $150,000 per song.
Attorney for the record companies, Richard Gabriel, spoke with reporters outside of the courthouse after the verdict. He said the RIAA will continue to aggressively pursue those it suspects of copyright violations.
"This is what can happen if you don't settle," Gabriel said.
Children Of Bodom Begins Recording New Album

The follow-up to 2005's "Are You Dead Yet?" is being produced by Mikko Karmila and will feature a guest appearance by Peter Tägtgren of Hypocrisy and Pain fame. An April 2008 release is expected.
As previously reported, Finnish acts Moonsorrow and Kiuas have been confirmed as the support bands for Children Of Bodom at their one-off show on March 8, 2008 at London, England's Astoria. Advance tickets are currently available at this location and via a 24-hour credit card line on 0870 400 0688.
Children Of Bodom guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho made a guest appearance the new album from the Finnish band GODSPLAGUE. He played a solo in the song "Don't Come Back" and he sings backing vocals on the CD, entitled "H8", which came out on September 5.
Two songs from Children Of Bodom — "Angels Don't Kill" and "In Your Face" — are featured on the "Unholy Alliance Tour" DVD, due on October 30 via American Recordings. The set will feature the the "Unholy Alliance Tour: Preaching to the Perverted" lineup — Slayer, Lamb Of God, Mastodon, Children Of Bodom and Thine Eyes Bleed. The DVD will have an approximate running time of 90 minutes.
The "Unholy Alliance Tour" DVD was shot at Vancouver's General Motors Place on July 13, 2006, was directed by Adam Rothlein (Speedway Films), and boasts performance footage plus bonus material to include backstage, behind-the-scenes and one-on-one interviews, many of which were conducted by the Unholy Alliance artists themselves.

Acrassicauda Seeks Safe Haven To Pursue Metal
Jam! Showbiz reports: Vice co-founder Suroosh Alvi, whose record label is home to Bloc Party, Chromeo, The Streets, The Black Lips, and Panthers, plans to get Iraqi metal band Acrassicauda into a state-of-the-art recording studio, then onto Ozzfest 2008 — but first he has to help get them out of danger and to a safe country.
“If we can get in trouble for this, then so be it,” says Alvi, who has followed his convictions since starting the edgy counter-culture magazine, Vice, in 1996 out of Montreal.
Acrassicauda — dubbed “Iraq’s only heavy metal band” because it is the only one known to have performed on a stage — is the subject of Vice Films’ moving documentary “Heavy Metal In Baghdad,” co-directed by Alvi and fellow Torontonian Eddy Moretti, and executive produced by Academy Award-winning director Spike Jonze (“Adaptation,” “Being John Malkovich”). Right now, the band members are living in Damascus, Syria, where the government has refused to renew their visas.
“They’re going to start kicking Iraqis back and their visas are expiring in the middle of October,” says Alvi, who is based in New York, but traveled to Iraq and Syria.
Vice had covered their story — from surreptitiously rockin’ out in Baghdad to attempting to start over in Damascus — through a series of filmed segments on VBS.tv, Vice’s Internet television channel whose creative director is Jonze. The full-length documentary recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, but things have taken a turn for the worse for Acrassicauda and Alvi and Moretti have started a fundraising campaign to help out these guys they now consider friends.
As the band wrote early this month in a blog on www.heavymetalinbaghdad.com, “We have been denied the right to be there in the film festival of Toronto in Canada for many reasons, as they said in the Canadian embassy for the second time, and as many of you heard that we are not able to perform or to play our music any more as a band all together for a lot of reasons. Plus there is no way to make living so after all there is no chance other than going back to Iraq where the chances of staying alive there are zero%.”
Alvi says that since the United States-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, the U.S. has let in less than 500 Iraqi refugees and Canada half that amount, while Syria has welcomed more than a million and Jordan some 400,000.
Alvi and Moretti have made it their mission to raise $20,000 to get singer Faisal; bassist Firas, along with his wife and child; guitarist Tony; and drummer Marwan (their surnames have been withheld by request) to a safe neighbouring country, until they figure out the next step. They have raised $8000 to date.
Ultimately, Alvi would like to bring them to North America, where they can realize their dream of playing heavy metal. But how does Acrassicauda measure up? Could they get a recording contract were they from the West? In “Heavy Metal In Baghdad,” we see their rehearsals and their live show, and even the results of an impromptu recording session in Syria, but it’s hard to tell if the snippets we hear of the actual original songs (such as “Massacre,” “The Orphan Child,” “Between The Ashes” and “Underworld”) are any good.
“Well, in my opinion, what this band needs is a month — a month to practice with normal equipment in a normal environment, what we consider to be the normal playing field for bands,” says Alvi. “And if they have that month, then they are good to go. They will be a great metal band, and not be a band that will be considered pretty good for Iraqi refugees living in Syria. And I think that’s what they want more than anything else.”

Shining, Hellsaw and Skitliv Confirm Tour Dates
SHINING, HELLSAW and SKITLIV have now confirmed additional dates and changes to their December tour. Originally scheduled to last 18 days, the tour will now kick off one day earlier with the addition of a Swedish date. Black Metallers CODE will join the three bands at the London Underworld for a rare, one-off appearance.
This will be the first chance for many to see Maniac live on stage since his departure from MAYHEM. He debuted his new band Doom Black Metal band SKITLIV this month during a short tour with Japanese all-girl band GALLHAMMER, where he was joined on stage by SHINING front man Kvarforth, normally SKITLIV’s studio guitarist, but who tours with them whenever his commitments to his own band will allow.
Aries, vocalist for Austrian Black Metallers HELLSAW, who this week released their new album “Phantasm”, recently had this to say about the upcoming tour, “… all three bands are exponents of quite different types of Black Metal, and we each have our own style of stage show, which makes it much more interesting for the fans, as well as for the bands concerned”.
