Helloween Vocalist Speaks On Kai Hansen
Harris Bakopoulos from Greece's Rockpages.gr webzine recently conducted an interview with HELLOWEEN vocalist Andi Deris during the band's promotional tour for their new album, Gambling With The Devil.
During their chat, Kai Hansen's name came up. Kai played guitar in Helloween on the self-titled debut EP and first four albums: Walls Of Jericho, Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I and II, Live In The UK. After leaving Helloween, Hansen formed GAMMA RAY, who just happen to be hitting the road with Helloween for four months from November '07 to February '08.
Rockpages.gr: The relationship of the band with Kai Hansen seems very healthy nowadays. Helloween has a great and strong lineup which makes clear that there’s no need for a reunion. On the other hand, the fact that Helloween and Gamma Ray are touring together makes some people wonder if the next step is that Kai will return in the band and Helloween continues as a six-member band like IRON MAIDEN did for example. Has this ever crossed your mind and would it ever be possible?
Andi Deris: "First of all, our relationship with Kai Hansen was always healthy. It’s just that now we have the chance to show it to the public. Our rehearsal rooms in Hamburg Germany) are like 15 meters from each other, they even made photos of them and still the fans did not believe it. Now, as far as Kai Hansen returning or not... there’s always room for speculations. Personally, I would say that it will not happen simply because Kai left the band because of too much stress. And I can imagine that Kai will be completely fucked up and stressed out after this tour because he’s playing on nearly every show of the Helloween world tour, so I already know that he will be nearly 'destroyed' after the tour. It’s too much for him, I know that he doesn’t like touring. One of the main reasons for his decision to leave Helloween was too much stress. So, I don’t see him coming back to Helloween in these days when there’s even more stress than during the '80s. Nowadays the world tour is much longer. So, I cannot imagine that this will happen, maybe only as a guest musician and with guest appearances and not as a constant member of a band who’s traveling all around the world again. I know him a little bit..."
Former Testament Drummer Available For Sessions
Drummer Nick Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR, TESTAMENT) is offering his professional drumming services for any serious/working bands out there in the metal universe that require a studio or touring session player in the very near future.
"Now that I'm not involved in the whole TESTAMENT thing anymore, this has left me with a considerable amount of free time on my hands, just sat around at home, practicing on my kit, etc." Barker told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "As a result of all this free time and the overwhelming feeling of 'cabin fever,' I've decided after much thought and consideration to offer my services out there for any bands/musicians who are looking for a session drummer either in the studio or for any upcoming tours that they may have planned. Obviously I don't have a U.S. work visa at this moment in time so that temporary setback rules out any performances on American soil, unfortunately, until the situation is rectified. However, this does not affect me performing anywhere else on planet earth and I hope to be returning to the U.S. very soon."
Serious parties can contact Barker via a special e-mail address set up purely for the sake of aquiring session work at mystic-rhythms@ hotmail.co.uk.
Kalmah Finish Recording Rhythm Guitars
Finnish metallers KALMAH entered the studio on October 13 to begin recording its fifth full-length album. An early 2008 release is expected.
Commented KALMAH guitarist Antti Kokko: "Rhythm guitars recorded, melodies recorded and some of the solos recorded. I'm very satisfied with the result so far. Sound kicks ass even though it is pure sound and the songs, of course, sound good. Yesterday I recorded all the melodies and some of the solos. Now we have a month break and we continue with bass, keyboard, vocals and rest of the solos in December. Mixing will take place in January. During the pause we will concentrate on the shows here in Finland at the beginning of December."
KALMAH's latest CD, "The Black Waltz", entered the Finnish national album chart in March 2006 at position No. 38. The follow-up to 2003's "Swampsong" marked the group's recording debut with keyboardist Marco Sneck (POISONBLACK).
Amulance Prepares To Record New Album
Recently reformed metal band AMULANCE will enter the studio in November-December to record a new album. The group wants to share some of the new material with a few fans and get their feedback. If you are interested, contact the band via their MySpace page.
Comments AMULANCE guitarist Bob Luman: "This is two-fold for us: one, it is a way to show some of our loyal fans that we are defiantly back and working; and two, they will let us know their thoughts on this new stuff." Luman continues, "The only real requirement is that after they have listened to the tunes they let us know what they think of it." Vocalist Rik Baez adds, "We are extremely pleased and excited about the new material and we want to share it with a some of the fans that have supported us for so long". More...

Cellador Guitarist Issues Tour Report
Guitarist Bill Hudson of the Nebraska-based power metallers CELLADOR has issued the following update:
"What the hell was that? Seriously, I've always heard that everybody loves to play in Japan and now I know why!"
"Our show at Loudpark 07 was the first ever in Japan, I couldn't believe how many people were there for us and we were the very first band! According to the promoter, there were 12 thousand people and as far my eye could see, everybody was singing our songs. There was a five-minute changeover between bands and they were there for every single one of them, chanting their names! They were even moshing during our set, something I thought Japanese people didn't do!" More...

Rage Complete New Album
RAGE have completed work on their new album, Carved In Stone. Guitarist Victor Smolski has issued the following update:
"Hi friends, Victor here. The studiojob for the new Rage album Carved In Stone is completed now, and finally I can listen to all tracks of the new CD by my HiFi rack with a quiet conscience, and I can say it has exactly become what we figured out before: STRAIGHT ON THE KISSER! (maybe you have to stop after 2 - 3 songs, getting a cold beer for a rest period...)."
"From the beginning we decided to compose the songs for this CD more straight, concentrating on cool riffs and catchy melodies. Actually, with our new line-up it was easy to realize everything, as we pulled together with André perfectly! All the recordings with our co-producer, sound-engineer and almost fourth bandmember Charly Czajkowski runs perfectly, as well as the final mix with Charlie Bauerfeind. From my point of view I promise you brutal guitar riffs with fancy soli. In one song, I've hidden a modification of a real famous melody - the one who will first recognize this melody will get a present! At 'Open My Grave', my sitar-guitar came into operation, at 'Lord Of The Flies', I've contributed a phat keyboard-arrangement." More...

New Interview With Hellyeah Drummer Online
Brian Dukes of FayObserver.com recently conducted an interview with drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott (HELLYEAH, ex-PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN).
FayObserver.com: What's it like to work with all these talented performers [in HELLYEAH]?
Vinnie Paul: We knew this band was going to be special from the start. It's been great because there's been no ego problems. We're a band, through and through, and we're having fun doing this.
FayObserver.com: Is there any added pressure or unrealistic expectations since you guys are, essentially, a "supergroup?"
Vinnie Paul: Not really. It's actually been refreshing to be a part of something that's not so high-pressure or that comes with high expectations. We're an old-fashioned garage band — just a bunch of guys jamming out and making music.
FayObserver.com: Is this band a creative outlet for you guys?
Vinnie Paul: Hell yeah, absolutely. We're creating things that you wouldn't necessarily find coming from MUDVAYNE or NOTHINGFACE or DAMAGEPLAN. This band stands on its own two feet.
FayObserver.com: What are some of your goals with this band?
Vinnie Paul: We knew that we wanted to accomplish three things: have a good time, create songs that are heavy but groove-oriented and that people could sing along to.
FayObserver.com: Every member of HELLYEAH comes from a different band with different fan bases. How have those fans responded to this collaboration?
Vinnie Paul: They've really embraced us from day one. They really seem to love how we've made fun, re-energized music that's not so serious and over the top — which is something that's been missing from the music scene for a while.
FayObserver.com: Of all the possible names, why HELLYEAH?
Vinnie Paul: It's simple, and it's a phrase we use all the time. It's very affirmative and full of attitude. When your buddy asks if you want to get a beer tonight, you don't just say "yes," you say, "Hell yeah!"
FayObserver.com: How many times have you said "Hellyeah"?
Vinnie Paul: I've lost count.
FayObserver.com: How'd you pick it?
Vinnie Paul: We had a rule. When we were looking for a name, that if you thought of something, you'd write it down and put it on an amp box outside of the studio. Well, someone wrote "Hellyeah," and we all just looked at each other and said, "Hellyeah!"
FayObserver.com: What are your future plans?
Vinnie Paul: Well, people need to know that this is a real band, not just a side project. We're going to take some time after MUDVAYNE gets done touring and promoting their latest album, and then we're going to come back and do this again — only bigger, badder, faster and harder.

Nine Inch Nails To Release New Album Online
The Pulse of Radio reports: NINE INCH NAILS frontman Trent Reznor is releasing the new album from hip-hop poet Saul Williams as a digital release, letting fans either download it for free or pay five dollars. Titled "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggyy Tardust", the record will be available for download starting on November 1. Unlike the recent RADIOHEAD download of the band's new "In Rainbows" album, which was done in a similar fashion, fans who pay the five dollars will get a higher quality audio file. Also unlike RADIOHEAD, everyone who downloads the album will get artwork and lyrics. Reznor said in a statement at NIN.com, "There are obvious similarities in how RADIOHEAD just released their new record and they way we've chosen to. After thinking about this way too much, I feel we've improved upon their idea in a few ways that benefit you, the consumer."
Serj Tankian, a friend of Williams', told The Pulse of Radio that he was aware of the new project and supported this kind of distribution. "You know, I think it's a great thing to be able to drive all of the traffic to your own web site and have that direct communication with your fans and friends, rather than going through a third party ultimately," he said. "I think over the next number of years, you're going to see a lot more established artists doing that." More...

Delian League Issue Studio Update
Delian League issue the follow update from the studio on their Myspace page:
"Hey everyone,"
"This is Joe from the studio with an update on our demo recording. The guitar tracks are taking a long time which we expected and anyone who has done recording like this knows how much work it is. The bad news is that there is still a lot of work left but the good news is that everything so far is sounding way better than our expectations. We are very proud of these tracks and this will start a whole new era for the band."
"Shane is about to begin recording his bass tracks at another location during our guitar recording to save time....then vocals...then mixing. Other than that we have some big news to go along with the demo release so sit tight and we'll have our songs up as soon as possible."

Belphegor Enter Studio Next Month
Austrian extreme metallers BELPHEGOR will enter Andy Classen's Stage One Studios in Kassel, Germany on Friday, November 9 to begin recording their new album for an April 11, 2008 European release via Nuclear Blast Records (April 15 in North America). The follow-up to 2006's "Pestapokalypse VI" will be recorded in three separate sessions lasting through the middle of January 2008.
Commented BLEPHEGOR's Helmuth: "Yeah it's true, since six weeks we've been working our asses off in the rehearsal room and we're already in the pre-production phase. I started the songwriting in May 2006 and directly after the Brazilian tour in September I've bunkered myself with Serpenth and session drummer Torturer into our rehearsal room. Since then we're 100% concentrated in the songwriting process, worked night and day extremely hard on the new tracks. Most of the nine compositions/arrangements is almost finished."
He added, "I'm so motivated and it feels extremely good to be creative again. This album is the next logical chapter for the bands development. For me that is not just another moderate CD — I would go into the deepest fire and give my last drop of blood for this Werk. More shredding, more cold melodies, more dynamics, more epic harmonies, more cyper-blastbeat-terror... the freakiest, wildest BELPHEGOR opera concerning guitars. Lemme tell you, the nine soundcollages sound huge, it's fucking TNT... you know it's BELPHEGOR."
