Lacuna Coil Check In From Japan
LACUNA COIL singer Andrea Ferro has issued the following update:
"We just got back from Tokyo where we performed at the Loudpark festival together with bands like ARCH ENEMY, SAXON and MARILYN MANSON, just to name a few... It has been simply a blast, our first time ever in this country and we are already excited [about] coming back. The show has been full of energy with a surprisingly loud Japanese crowd — they were singin' along, jumping and screaming like crazy. Long signin' sessions and heavy interview schedule. We've met also a lot of friends from bands like TRIVIUM, MACHINE HEAD, HANOI ROCKS. We've been to eat some great sushi, drink some fine sake and of course to the anime/manga store. The city is unbelieavable and the people are really kind and respectful. Domo arigato!" More...

Vocalist Ronnie James Dio thanked the fans for their support, then dedicated the encore song ("Neon Knights") to veteran KNAC DJ Tawn Mastrey, who died in early October of liver failure brought on by hepatitis C.

"I must admit I didn't know a lot about the Russian death metal scene before the tour, but I have to say it was over the top! We packed venues every night! The crowds were totally sick some if the craziest we have played for."
"We were pretty busy traveling most of the time, but we did get time to visit Red Square. That was really cool, growing up in the time of the Cold War it was amazing to get to visit and have some great gigs in a country that was once unheard of for a American band to visit. Also at the Moscow show I did an interview for the biggest metal video TV show in Russia. So that was a great honor." More...

We’re gonna keep writing though while the creative juices are flowing. If we have more than enough come time to record, then we will save what goes unused for another split or something. Celtic Frost To Headline Roadburn 2008
The following is a press release from Roadburn
"Swiss advant garde/metal pioneers Celtic Frost have been confirmed as the main headliner of the 13th annual Roadburn Festival, which will take place April 18-19, 2008, at the 013 Club in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Although Celtic Frost are recognized as a pivotal influence on both the extreme metal and gothic metal genres, Roadburn also considers Celtic Frost a seminal influence on the current stoner, doom and psychedelic scene.
Indeed, we feel Celtic Frost merits notice alongside such established pioneers as Hawkwind and Black Sabbath.
In celebration of this lesser-acknowledged side to the metal giants, Celtic Frost will perform a special one-off show at Roadburn, comprised of a repertoire which will be slightly different from the tour repertoire played in 2006 and 2007. They will be playing on Saturday, April 19, 2008.
Tom Gabriel Fischer: 'We are very proud to have been invited to headline Roadburn. Much like Celtic Frost, Roadburn follows an artistic path which deviates slightly from the norm. We all think that Roadburn and Celtic Frost is a perfect combination, and we are looking forward very much to our concert there.' "
Ozzy Osbourne Tribute Fenced Off As Health Hazard
According to the Birmingham Mail, a Hollywood-style Walk of Stars in Birmingham, England — which features a tribute to BLACK SABBATH frontman Ozzy Osbourne — has been fenced off because people have been slipping over on the highly polished stones.
The tributes to Osbourne and comedian Jasper Carrott were unveiled in glittering ceremonies attended by the entertainers and hundreds of their fans.
They were intended to put Birmingham on the celebrity map.
But just a month after the last star was embedded in the pavement in Broad Street, it and the one laid earlier in July have been surrounded by railings to prevent pedestrians injuring themselves.
Broad Street manager Mike Olley admitted: "We have fenced them off as a precaution. "There are a lot of people walking up and down every day and we don't want any unnecessary accidents.
"There is a concern they may be over-polished, so we are getting them re-evaluated by the manufacturer.
"There may not even be a problem but we need to double check."

Bruce Dickinson To Be In Cyber Flight Marathon
According to ThisIsNottingham.co.uk, IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson is preparing to embark on a marathon non-stop "cyber flight" around the world in seven days with a group of flight simulator enthusiasts.
Dickinson, who holds an airline pilot's licence, will be part of a 17-strong British flight team on a virtual round-the-globe adventure called Simfest.
Departing from a virtual Sydney International Airport in Australia on Sunday November 4, the journey will take the team seven days and seven nights.
Simfest is part of World-Flight, an annual event in which teams from around the world use home-built flight simulators to fly around the world and raise money for a chosen charity.
This year the British cyber pilot team is supporting Cancer Research UK.
Gary Oliver and Mark Hastings custom-built their own Boeing 777 flight simulator in Gary's garage, and are masterminding the British effort, and hope to raise £5,000 for the charity.
The pilots will fly under as many real-world rules and regulations as possible and will be guided by teams of virtual air traffic controllers using VATSIM, the free global virtual air traffic controller network.
Supporters of the mission can follow the flights on web cams and online tracking.

AC/DC DVD Tops Billboard Music Video Charts
AC/DC's "Plug Me In", a two-disc DVD set of more than five hours of concert footage and interviews, has sold 35,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on Billboard's Top Music Video chart. The compilation contains over five hours of live and television performances, many of them rare and previously unavailable until now. A limited edition of the set includes a third disc featuring 21 additional performances, along with reproductions of authentic AC/DC memorabilia.
Disc one is devoted to the band's early years with singer Bon Scott, covering the period between 1975 and 1979. Among the highlights are the band's first U.K. television appearance in July of 1976, the first public performance of "Highway to Hell" on Dutch television in 1979 and four songs from one of Scott's final shows before his death in early 1980.
Disc two covers the era with Brian Johnson on the mic, stretching from 1980 to the present. Highlights include a rare Japanese TV appearance from February of 1981, concerts from the '80s, '90s, and 21st century and a 2003 performance of "Rock Me Baby" with THE ROLLING STONES.
According to The Pulse of Radio, AC/DC is scheduled to begin recording its first all-new album since 2000's "Stiff Upper Lip" at some point soon, although exact dates remain a mystery.

COMMUNIC's sophomore effort, "Waves of Visual Decay", entered the German chart at position No. 66 back in May 2006.
King Diamond Suffers Herniated Disc
King Diamond has told MTV.com that he may be forced to cancel his band's U.S. tour — which is scheduled to launch March 23 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, and run through May 8 in Houston — due to a herniated disc.
"I can't sit down, even on my couch, for more than a few minutes," he said. "About a month ago I tried, and after 15 minutes, it started feeling like my left leg was getting set on fire."
"It can take up to a year and a half for a severe herniated disc to heal properly, but it varies from person to person," he added. "So, we are crossing our fingers and praying that we won't have to cancel the U.S shows. Right now there's not much more we can do."
Diamond got a taste of what might happen if he hits the road too soon in September when director Bill Schacht from video company Aestheticom — which has also worked with AMON AMARTH — shot a video for "Give Me Your Soul", the first KING DIAMOND clip in 17 years. "They limited what I had to do, of course, so I only did one day of shooting for 90 minutes, but just standing there moving a little bit in the full outfit was very difficult," he said. "And afterwards, I got one of those sharp attacks of pain that I hadn't had in a month and a half. The only thing I can compare it to is a really super-bad toothache or earache. And afterwards, I was like, 'OK, I'm not ready [to tour] yet.' "
Regarding how he injured his back, the 51-year-old singer said, "I think the real damage happened mixing the record, because I did that three weeks straight for a minimum of 12 hours a day. One of the last nights, when I was going to bed, I felt these pains in the sciatic nerves on each side, and I thought, 'Oh what is this?' The next morning I woke up and I couldn't walk or stand. It was like being paralyzed. I can't begin to say how painful it was. They say that's the worst pain you can experience as a human being. Had I not lived on the ground floor in a house, I would have jumped out the window."
Down Drummer Discusses Band DVD
Lord of The Wasteland of Metal-Rules.com recently conducted an interview with DOWN drummer Jimmy Bower. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
Metal-Rules.com: I read that the band has a bunch of acoustic stuff in the can. Are you guys throwing around the idea of possibly releasing an acoustic album?
Jimmy: Yeah, we do have some stuff and we are definitely going to work on that soon. We have a lot of projects that we are working on, but right now we are just trying to push the record and tour as much as we can. For the next two years, we are going to be busy. I'll be lucky to see my bedroom at home for more than a week (laughs).
Metal-Rules.com: On the CDs, you have Ross Karpelman playing keyboards. The new song "Nothing In Return (Walk Away)" and "Stained Glass Cross" from "Over The Under" both have a real cool southern vibe to them with the added keyboard. Why don't you perform those songs live with a touring keyboardist?
Jimmy: We have never played "Stained Glass Cross" live. Why? I don't know. I love that song. I actually wrote that song. On a Canadian run, we tried having Ross play with us but it was a little weird because he had other obligations with House of Shock, a big haunted house in New Orleans. It's just not practical for us to bring him in right now. We were kind of concerned about how that would work out. It's cool to have it on the record and stuff but I don't know about live. Personally, I think it would be killer. It would be like [Bower's 2000 side-project THE MYSTIC KREWE OF] CLEARLIGHT or something. Ross has other obligations right now but I wouldn't doubt it if maybe we do something like that in the future.
Metal-Rules.com: The spread between the first and second album was seven years and then it was another five years in between the last two. Is this gap going to narrow in between "Over The Under" and the next CD?
Jimmy: Well, I think in the past everybody had a lot of obligations with their "real" bands. PANTERA was still going, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY was strong, EYEHATEGOD was still going strong and DOWN was thought of as more of a side-band. Now that we all have come to terms and made a commitment, it won't be five years until the next record comes out. This is our band and we plan on growing old with this band. We intend to work hard for the rest of our lives to make it as cool as we possibly can. The reason for the breaks in between the records is pretty obvious. It was scheduling and all that. "Let's jam!" "Well, Pepper's on tour." "We could do it here but Kirk's going to be on tour or Jimmy." "Phil's doing something with PANTERA." Or, "Oh, shit! There's a hurricane in the Gulf!" You name it and it happened.
Metal-Rules.com: What are the tour plans after this run of dates finishes up in November?
Jimmy: I think in January we are going to Europe. Then in March or April we are going to Australia. Then hopefully back to Europe again in June for festivals. Then we will probably do another North American run. We want to try and hit as many countries as we can and hit all the places that we've never been to. If you really look at what we've been doing before the record came out, we've been a damn busy band.
Metal-Rules.com: Has there been any discussion about recording the "Evening With Down" shows for release as a live album or DVD?
Jimmy: Well, when we were in Europe in 2006, Jim Van Bevan came with us. He's a director — he did the SUPERJOINT [RITUAL] videos and the [MARILYN] MANSON movie — and he came with us and shot 350 hours of footage while we were playing and some backstage stuff. We are going to get that together and edit it for a cool DOWN DVD. It will definitely be really unique.
Metal-Rules.com: Is it going to be a show, as well, or just a backstage kind of thing?
Jimmy: I think it's going to be a blend.
Metal-Rules.com: Will there be some older stuff from the early Nineties?
Jimmy: Yeah, we have video from that day I was telling you about where we wrote "Losing All", "Temptation's Wings" and "Bury Me In Smoke". We look like kids, man (laughs). We'll intertwine all of that together. It should be a very interesting DVD. It's taking a lot longer than we thought but we really want to make it good.
Metal-Rules.com: Is it something that will be out in the near future or is looking more long-term?
Jimmy: No, it will be in the near future. Like I said, we have 350 hours of footage to edit, so it's a lot of work, especially for Jim Van Bevan. He has to edit everything down, then we could edit everything together. Right now we are just trying to pump out what we can, when we can.
Hate Talk About New Album
Polish heralds of industrial death/black metal have revealed details on their new opus - Morphosis, that has just been mixed at Hertz Studio/Poland by Wieslawski Bros (VADER, DECAPITATED).
Song titles set to appear on Hate's new album include 'Metamorphosis', 'Threnody', 'Erased, Catharsis', 'Resurrection Machine', 'Omega', 'The Evangelistic Pain', 'Immum Coeli'.
The album is planned for early 2008 on Listenable Records and promised to be the most mature and ambitious material from the band so far, demonstraiting a great step ahead as for production and composition.
Hate’s leader, ATF Sinner checked in on the recording session: “We have just finished the mixes on our new album entitled Morphosis and I must say I’m really excited about the results we gained after a month’s session in Hertz.
Now we’re in the process of mastering the material, so I hope we’ll have it finished within days now. The production is generally more “live” comparing to Anaclasis, however, we used quite an amount of synthetic sounds that strengthen certain parts, especially refrains, and give them some kind of “elevated” atmosphere.
In the background you can hear lots of eerie sound structures going on all the time, which give the music more depth; a kind of additional dimension. The album is a stylistic continuation of our previous record Anaclasis, but this time production as well as compositions are more careful and simply on higher level.
I do hope we’ll take a significant step ahead with this material, which is definitely our best thus far. Soon, we start working on a completely new website that will be dedicated especially to the new album. We’ll also start an official Hate forum (on www.metal-realm.net) to create a space for sharing opinions among our followers.
In January, we plan to shoot a video-clip for one of the new songs.”
Hate have been confirmed as a headliner to the second part of Rebel Angels Tour 2007 in Poland in November.
The bands will invade 11 other cities around Poland and Hate will be, for the first time, presenting some newly recorded songs from Morphosis.

As I Lay Dying Singer Escapes Wildfire
According to MTV.com, AS I LAY DYING singer Tim Lambesis and his wife fled teir San Marcos home at 2 a.m. on Monday (October 22) after getting a call from a friend about one of the first fires to break out in Southern California. That fire was quickly snuffed out and Lambesis and his wife returned home on Tuesday morning — only to be evacuated again six hours later when a fire in a neighboring community threatened San Marcos again. "That first night I could see the fire coming toward us on the hill we're on, and I was scared," said Lambesis, who has lived in San Diego his entire life but never seen such powerful fires. Luckily, the winds died down again and his home was spared.
Asked what he grabbed in his rushes to beat the flames, Lambesis said, "I grabbed important photos, my dog, documents. I have a studio at my house, so I have 15 hard drives with recordings that I had to pile up along with three computers. It was hectic. My wife grabbed her wedding dress." Luckily for Lambesis, the band's van and trailer were parked outside his house, so most of their equipment was already ready to roll.
Velvet Revolver Postpone Tonights Show
VELVET REVOLVER has postponed its headlining concert tomorrow night, Friday, October 26th at the outdoor Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA due to the devastating Southern California wildfires. This includes the fire in the city of Irvine where evacuations have taken place and the Irvine School District has closed all schools on Friday due to poor air quality. The rescheduled show - with ALICE IN CHAINS, who were also set to play the Irvine gig - will take place Wednesday, December 12th at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles after Velvet Revolver return from their tour of Japan and Australia.
Fans holding tickets for the October 26th Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre show that were purchased at Ticketmaster retail outlets or at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre box office can exchange them for tickets to the new venue at the Gibson Amphitheatre box office starting Monday, November 5th. The Gibson Amphitheatre box office is open Monday through Saturday from 1pm to 8:45pm.
Fans who purchased tickets via Ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster Charge-By-Phone will automatically receive tickets to the Gibson Amphitheatre December 12th show by mail. For those unable to attend the new date and new facility, refunds are available at point-of-purchase.
Velvet Revolver send their sincerest thoughts and prayers to those who have been affected by the tragic fires in Southern California, where the Governor has issued a State of Emergency for seven counties including Orange County. The Irvine fire has left the air quality extremely poor and there is concern that the county’s resources - police, fire and medical - will be spread much too thin and thus compromise a safe environment for the fans.
Rob Halford To Do Signing Session In New Jersey
JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford will be at Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ on Saturday, November 17th for a signing session. It will begin at 5:30pm.
As previously reported, Halford spoke to the Greatfallstribune.com recently about a number of topics including his solo retrospective Metal God Essentials: Vol. 1 and of course the new Priest album set for release in 2008.
"(He's) a real man, not like a fantasy that you get in rock and roll and metal," Halford said of Nostradamus. "(We're) telling the story of this very controversial human being from 500 years ago, from France, who still resonates all these years later. It's a human story as well as one that you know about from his premonitions."
"We're really pushing ourselves again," Halford said. "It would be very easy for Priest to stop recording music and just keep going out and doing shows, but that's not what we're about. The music is absolutely phenomenal. It's everything that you love about Priest and more 'cause we really stretched ourselves and we're doing some extraordinary things musically."
