Pit Stories: Power Metal Moshing
Our quest for the best pit stories from metal shows marches on! In recent weeks we've heard about the glory of seeing your favorite band live for the first time, gotten a look at the bizarre things fans do at shows, and even got a story about mistaken identity resulting in the wrong guy getting punched.
This week we've got Illinois-based prog outfit Dissona discussing some unexpected brutality at Blind Guardian shows. The band had this to say:
Craig and David have been to multiple Blind Guardian shows together. Now, Blind Guardian is not exactly the band you would think of when you think of the glorious violence of the pit, but for each show Craig and David were positioned up against the front rail, getting pressed and smashed by the pit behind them. They had crowd surfers soar over their heads; sometimes directly into their heads.
Probably the closest we had come to broken ribs and concussions, but it was always well worth the pain. Occasionally, we would turn around and each time we would notice that nearly every person moshing was also simultaneously singing the words, chants, and guitar melodies perfectly. Quite a feeling of unity. Call us nerds for having the best pit be at a power metal show, but it’s the truth. We go to extreme metal shows, too, (gotta save our credibility somehow, right?) but in those cases we are more interested in the music than the pit.
The Chicago-based progressive metal band's third full-length album "Paleopneumatic" will be released January 15th, 2016 and two tracks from that impending album can be heard below. For more info on the band, head over to the Dissona Facebook profile here. More...

Metal Church Reveals Album Release, Posts Video
Metal Church returns with latest album "XI," slated for release on March 25th via Nuclear Blast Records (except North and South America, where the release is handled by Rat Pak Records on the same date).
The band’s 11th studio release also marks the return of legendary vocalist and front man Mike Howe. The reunion between Mike and Metal Church started in July of 2014 when Mike started working with Kurdt Vanderhoof on a side project he was forming with Nigel Glockler from Saxon.
Through these initial conversations, Kurdt convinced Mike to ultimately return to Metal Church. The idea was to see if they could recapture some of the magic from the three albums Metal Church released in the late 80’s: "The Human Factor," "Blessing In Disguise," and "Hanging In The Balance."
Out of those sessions, "XI" was born. “At first I struggled with the decision to come back, but after hearing the riffs that Kurdt was writing, I just couldn’t resist, the music called to me and I wanted to be part of it!” says returning vocalist Mike Howe.
Metal Church has also released an official music video for the debut single from "No Tomorrow." The video was filmed in the Satsop Nuclear Facility, an abandoned nuclear power plant in Elma, Washington. More...

Horrified Streaming New Track
Having risen from the festering swamp of debut "Descent Into Putridity," the Newcastle-based death metallers from Horrified have shifted course and progressed into new territory with their upcoming album "Of Despair."
Frontman and mastermind Dan Alderson has instead sought inspiration from the frozen plains further north; the works of Dissection, Sacramentum and Unanimated joined his continued love of the Floridian scene, melding together into an intense hybrid that displays spectacular riffs and throat-ruining growls.
The band just uploaded a track, entitled “Infernal Lands,” onto YouTube to showcase this transition. Check it out below. Details of the album will be made available soon. More...
Dead Procession Releasing Full-Length Debut
Labyrinth Productions, the doom sub-label of Altare Productions, is proud to present the full-length debut of Dead Procession, "Rituais e Mantras do Medo," set for international release on March 1st.
A shadowy entity hailing from the fertile underground of Portugal, Dead Procession began in 2009 with a series of three, super-limited demo tapes - each limited to only 33 copies, in fact. The style back then was keyboard-driven ambient/drone, but with the release of a split 7" with fellow countrymen Black Cilice in 2013, Dead Procession developed its ambient/drone to include vocals.
With "Rituais e Mantras do Medo," Dead Procession displays that a tangibly black metal atmosphere can be created without using any conventional black metal at all. Here, the development on the split with Black Cilice follows forward toward a ritualistic sort of drone/doom full of contemplation and wonderment, embracing the vast expanses of the natural world whilst remaining resolutely alone and isolated.

2. Percorrendo os Caminhos da Noite

Manic Scum Releasing "Acidic Remains"
Old school death metal comes in many strains, but one of the more rare forms practiced by current bands is the blood-soaked nastiness pioneered by early Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation.
This is what Manic Scum delivers: pummeling and technical riffs, lyrics full of gore, and home-brewed production that is just clear enough to get the point across.
Following a previous demo and EP, "Acidic Remains" is the band's latest assault and sure to appeal most to death metal fans who remember when brutality wasn't synonymous with typewriter drums and overly ProTooled guitars.
"Acidic Remains" will be released January 22, 2016 by Unspeakable Axe Records. Look for it on CD and digital download via Bandcamp. The track listing is as follows:
1. Strapped to the Gurney

"Realm Of The Damned" Coming To Judge Dredd
The world will not end with a bang, but rather with a vicious chord – "The Realm of the Damned: Tenebris Deos" is coming to the Judge Dredd Megazine!
The new black metal-infused gothic horror series, written by Alec Worley and drawn by Simon “Pye” Parr, will begin in the slot of the monthly anthology magazine in January.

This new series blends music and madness into a world where the forces of darkness that once stalked the fringes of reality have finally taken over the world.
The supernatural defence agency known as The Congregation, a covert wing of the Catholic church, has been destroyed and its sole surviving operative, legendary monster-hunter Alberic Van Helsing, is now a fugitive and addict. Now he’s been recruited by the so-called Vampire Elite to help them destroy an ancient evil that threatens them all. More...
Foul Body Autopsy Details New EP
One man U.K. extreme metal wrecking machine Tom Reynolds has been making quite a name for himself of late with his incessant live appearances up and down the UK and knack for marrying a plethora of extreme metal sounds into one. Now having completed his next Foul Body Autopsy record, an EP entitled "Perpetuated By Greed," which drops on February 26th in Europe via Grindscene Records and in North America via Comatose Music.
Like all its predecessors, Tom has a message to deliver, and again, just like its predecessors, the message is as subtle as a JCB driving up a village main street. In his own words, "The concept behind the new Foul Body Autopsy record is... Everything Is Completely Fucked!."
Tom elaborates, "It's a refection of how messed up the world is at the moment, and thanks to the right wing turn in politics and in the media a mood of fear and paranoia has taken hold. There are families drowning in the sea, running from the crossfire of blood thirsty extremist death cult and a desperate amoral military dictatorship, and instead of trying to help there are governments doing everything in their power to stop refugees getting to safety. As well as that, we have national newspapers here giving people, and someone in particular, space in their rag to call these affected people cockroaches! We have a Prime Minister who says that anyone that opposes war is a 'terrorist sympathizer' and if we look across the pond things are not that much better... a man that looks like a biological car crash is running for president and most of the things he says are completely false but because most of his followers don't trust the media he can create his own insane reality and have thousands of people blindly agree with him. The future isn't looking too great."
The EP was recorded at The Parlour Recording Studio (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir, Evile) with producer Neil Haynes and features cover art from Coki Greenway. "Perpetuated By Greed" delves into environmental issues and subjects on a broader scale in comparison to "So Close To Dehumanization." The record features six tracks of blistering blackened death grind extreme metal, fast drumming, growls and pinpoint guitarwork.
