The Shrine Streaming Bonus Track

Venice Beach, CA's purveyors of psychedelic violence from The Shrine are releasing "Rare Breed," their debut full-length for Century Media Records.

To ring in the release, the group has shared a digipak-only bonus version of "Never More Than Now" featuring vocals from the legendary Keith Morris (Black Flag, Off!, Circle Jerks). Give it a listen below.

On January 22nd in Los Angeles, the band will host "The Rare Breed Experience," a special record release party flashback trip to another dimension that will feature a live performance from The Shrine with opening support from Arctic, a band comprised of pro skateboarders Don Nguyen and Justin Figueroa.

The "Never More Than Now" premiere marks another notch in a banner year for The Shrine that has seen brands like Converse (who commissioned Landau to create a custom shoe) and Marshall Headphones hand-pick the group to become featured artists. The band also recently finished a European tour with Kadavar and Horisont, as well as headlining tours of Japan and Australia, a stint on Motörhead's Motörboat Cruise and an epic 16-city trek through the States with Clutch and Corrosion of Conformity. Unbowed Releasing "Dogma" EP

"Dogma," the follow-up to Unbowed's 2014 debut full-length, "Collapse The World," certainly reflects the deeper meaning of the band's monicker and will drop February 12th, 2016. The following press release was also issued about the EP:

"The songs contained within are eloquent, forceful, and wholly unyielding. The somber atmosphere of black metal is apparent whilst the band bludgeons into thick, suffocating death metal riffing. With your head already reeling, the band tears open the fabric of reality with soaring orchestral and symphonic elements that takes the listener from purgatory to paradise, all in the same fleeting moments.

"From acoustic guitars and grand pianos to choir ensembles and harps, this is a metal release that pushes the boundaries of what an up-and-coming band can already be. On top of all this, the entire EP is self-produced. Written, recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely by the two founding members."

Ovtrenoir Announces New EP

Ovtrenoir's "Eroded" is coming out via Consouling Sounds Records on January 29th, 2016. The label also comments:

"Ovtrenoir may be an unfamiliar name in the metal scene, yet all the members that constitute this Paris-based group have been playing in various musical projects or working in arts in the last few years.

"For instance, guitarist/vocalist William Lacalmontie is an acclaimed photographer and film director whose portfolio includes collaborations with Godflesh, Corrections House, Schammasch, Church Of Ra, etc… Guitarist Dehn Sora is also a talented designer (Blut Aus Nord, Amenra), but is best known for his musical output as Treha Sektori, while Julien Taubregeas has been playing drums for hardcore group The Great Divide. Bassist Angeline Seguelas completes the line-up and together they’ve recently recorded their debut EP titled 'Eroded,' which is set for release on January 29th.

"The French four-piece group have combined elements of sludge, doom and post-metal to create music with emotional weight on this first effort. Monolithic, dissonant riffs that rise and fall like massive waves clash with pummelling, crushing drums and grieving vocals resulting in five emotionally intense tracks that recall artists like Neurosis and Cult of Luna."

Swine Overlord Releases New Single

Death metal duo Swine Overlord has released latest single "Procreating the Offspring of Gods and Men" today. Listen in below.

"We chose ''Procreating the Offspring of God and Men' for the single because we felt it is a good snapshot of the album," states guitarist Will Peplinski. "It's different, but it's still us."

In regards to the cover, Will added: "Since the single is acting as a small peak at the new sound with Anthony's new vocals, we also decided to release a little piece of the upcoming 'Entheogenesis' album cover by the talented Guang Yang. I've loved all of his work so working with him was a dream come true."

Sunday Old School: Dying Fetus

One thing that can be found in metal music that doesn’t appear in other genres is gloriously offensive band names. Metal is very good at turning away non listeners with monikers alone, with Septicflesh and Rotting Christ being two names that are always guaranteed to cause some disturbed looks from the uninitiated, with Anal Cunt and Pissing Razors usually gauging a good reaction too. So let’s take a look at another metal’s most repulsive names, Dying Fetus.

The band began life in Upper Marlboro, Maryland in 1991, the brainchild of guitarist John Gallagher, (not to be confused with the Raven frontman,) and bass player Jason Netherton. The two met guitarist and vocalist Nick Speleos a year later and from there, the group really got going, with Gallagher handling the drum duties until a permanent member could be found. The trio recorded a demo, "Bathing in Entrails" in 1993, before they hired drummer Rob Belton, as well as replacing Speleos with Brian Latta, which prompted Gallagher to also take up vocals, which were first heard on the 1994 demo, "Infatuated With Malevolence." The two demos were released together under the title of the latter as a compilation album in 1995 through Wild Rags Records. More...
