Soon Releasing "Vol. 1" Album

Soon's "Vol. 1" will see release on CD, LP and digitally via Temple Of Torturous on March 4th, 2016 with pre-orders and track premieres to be announced in the coming weeks. The label comments:

"It's easy to reduce Soon to superficial contradictions. After all, who would've thought singer/guitarist Stuart McLamb and drummer Thomas Simpson of indie stars The Love Language would emerge with this righteously heavy offshoot?

"However Soon's 'Vol. 1; debut, set for release this March, quickly dissolves the easy narrative of acclaimed popsmith taking the left hand path toward heavy metal. What's more obvious is the immediate chemistry between McLamb and Simpson, bassist Rob Walsh (Bitter Resolve) and guitarist Mark Connor (Grohg).

"Though Soon employs the heavy, distorted riffing and contemplative pacing of doom, the band shares none of the genre's antagonistic, abyss-gazing tropes. It's dynamic, melodic and adventurous. The Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based quartet pulled from a deep well of influence and experience in crafting its eight-song LP. Soon spent a concentrated week of revising and tracking, plus two months of tinkering, at the Greensboro studio Legitimate Business with engineer Kris Hilbert (Torch Runner, Between The Buried And Me, The Body) at the helm. The vast emptiness and shear mammoth proportions of this landscape lend a very helpful hand in open palm smacking the creative juices right into you. In this album the songs are faster, heavier and all around more to the tune we have always been drawn to. I’m sure all who listen will agree this is our best offering to date!”

2. Wild Is The Wind (4:12)
3. Vermin Lord (6:50)
4. Winter's Doom (3:39)

Essence Of Sorrow Recruits Germán Pascual

Essence Of Sorrow - the Finnish/Swedish band founded by Jani Stefanovic (Solution .45, Miseration) released debut album "Reflections Of The Obscure" in 2006 featuring both Mats Leven (ex. Yngwie Malmsteen, Gus G, ex.Therion, Candlemass) and Christian Palin (ex. Adagio) on vocals.

Due to Mats and his busy schedule, Christian Palin was set to take care of the live duties. The band got off with a promising start doing shows in Scandinavia and northern parts of Europe. Although the band had a promising future ahead it would not be without bumps, which sadly resulted in putting the band on ice.

The plan was always to put the band up in motion again, and that time has come and after a few years of silence. Essence Of Sorrow has a new line up and is working on new material planned to hit the shops in 2016. More...

Metallica Rescinds Cease And Desist

Last week a Metallica tribute band titled Sandman posted online about receiving a cease and desist letter for using the band's logo during live shows.

The story went viral, with the usual Lars/Napster comments dominating any given story or social media post, but as it turns out, Metallica was unaware of the legal action - and has both rescinded the cease and desist and fired the lawyer responsible!

The band has now checked in with Rollingstone.com to discuss the situation. An excerpt from the story follows.

"We hear that a Canadian Metallica tribute band is a little upset with us and with a little digging, figured out why," the band tells Rolling Stone. "It turns out that a certain letter was delivered to the band Sandman that neither we nor our management were aware of until it surfaced online. Lucky for us, the band was kind enough to post it for us to see, and it turns out that we have a very overzealous attorney who sent this letter without our knowledge."

Mirrors For Psychic Warfare Project Announced

Scott Kelly (Neurosis) and producer/engineer/sonic warlord Sanford Parker (Buried At Sea) are restless, and this inquietude has culminated into another collaboration: Mirrors For Psychic Warfare.

The band's haunting self-titled debut is the sonic manifestation of insomnia, complete with the tossing, the turning, and the perennial dread that comes with facing another shabby daylight. The five songs lurch and pulsate across a desolate landscape with an almost curious obsessiveness.

Mirrors For Psychic Warfare was realized and recorded by both Kelly and Parker at Actual 13 Studio and Hypercube respectively over the course of 2015. The record was mixed and mastered by Parker and will see release this spring via Neurot Recordings. The track listing is as follows:

1. Oracles Hex
2. A Thorn To See
3. CNN WTZ
4. I'll Try You All
5. 43

Further info on Mirrors For Psychic Warfare - including final street date, preorders and track teasers - are to be unveiled in the weeks to come. Until then, ache. More...
