Road Rage 2004 Photos From Aug 9 In DC
I got a few decent photos of Machine Head and Chimaira playing at Road Rage 2004 on August 9 in Washington, DC. The lighting (especially heavy use of green and red lights) made it hard to get good photos, but I managed a few. Check them out in the photo gallery section.
Rotting Christ Post Audio Sample Online
The opening track of ROTTING CHRIST’s new Sanctus Diavolos album, ‘Vision Of A Blind Order’, can be heard here. The track features a guest appearance on lead guitar by DREAM EVIL/FIREWIND/NIGHTRAGE axeman Gus G.
As previously reported, Sanctus Diavolos will be released through Century Media on September 20th. The album has been described as “the band going back to their darker, more savage musical roots and attitude” and was mixed by producer to the gods and Dream Evil guitarist Fredrik Nordstrom. Vocalist/guitarist Sakis produced the album.
In other news, Poland-based Metal Mind Productions recently released the In Domine Sathana DVD, which features a 190 minute retrospective covering the band from 1996 to 2003.
Gorerotted Line-Up Changes
Metal Blade Records report that GOREROTTED have parted ways with Mr. Gore. They will continue as a five piece until a suitable replacement is found. Remaining vocalist Goreskin and bass player Wilson will handle the high vocals between them for all upcoming festival shows and club gigs.
Gorerotted recently performed at the Kaltenbach open air festival (Austria) as a five piece when Mr. Gore was forced to stay in the UK because of family problems. Anyone who witnessed this show will tell you Gorerotted still fucking destroy as a live band!!!
Vocalist Goreskin has this to say, 'It's like the end of an era losing Mr. Gore, he's been in Gorerotted from the start and was the utter cunt that roped me into singing with him in the first place. Still, he needs to go, it's time to move on and look to the future. Anyway there's still a bunch of ladies in London he hasn't done yet, so at least he'll be able to put his full energy into banging broads again. It's quite nice really, just like releasing a caged animal back into the wild.”

I had the chance to interview Machine Head's Phil Demmel (lead guitars) before the Road Rage show on August 9th in Washington, DC (report/review here). It was short n' sweet, as I was fried from work and being stressed that I would not make it there on time for the interview. Here it is: More...

Green Carnation Box Set Details
Green Carnation are inviting their fans to a special treat with their beautiful box set: “The Trilogy” contains all three of Green Carnation's albums on heavy vinyl and with luxurious gatefold covers in a deluxe box. Especially the covers to "Journey To The End Of The Night“ and "Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness“ finally show to their advantage in this format. We follow the Norwegians’ musical voyage from their debut album "Journey To The End Of The Night“ via the second release "Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness“ to their most recent work, "A Blessing In Disguise.“ While "Journey To The End Of The Night“ (on which Tchort was helped by Vibeke from Tristania and the Botteri twins from In The Woods) was very much located in the Psychedelic Doom Metal area, "Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness“ features a blending of heavy doom guitars, orchestral arrangements and Progressive Rock influences. Finally, "A Blessing In Disguise“ reveals the melancholic Hard Rock side of Green Carnation. In addition to these three albums, “The Trilogy” includes five previously unreleased acoustic versions of some tracks from the "A Blessing In Disguise“ album. In Europe, this box set is limited to 333 hand-numbered copies.

trained musicians and singers.
"Sunwar The Dead" is going to feature the following tracks:
1. Chaomphalos

4. Ares In Their Eyes
5. The Hemlock Sea

Ex-Marduk & Dark Angel Members Join Forces
Former Marduk members Legion (a.k.a. Erik Hagsted, vocals) and B.War (bass) will be joining forces with guitarist Jim Durkin (Dreams of Damnation, ex-Dark Angel) in a new death metal project. The band, which will be based out of Los Angeles, is "only a recording project, on paper at this point" Durkin told blabbermouth.net. "I wrote a song for them, but we have not done anything yet. I look forward to making music with them. But my main focus is and always has been Dreams of Damnation. Everything revolves around Dreams of Damnation for me."
A name for the group has not yet been determined.
B.War quit Marduk earlier this year to move to Los Angeles to be with his family. Legion and his family will also be relocating to Los Angeles later this year.
Carnal Forge Announces New Vocalist

Nightwish Issues Statement About Cancelled Shows
Many fans have asked us why the shows in Canada had to be cancelled due to U.S. visa problems. The band's manager Ewo Rytkönen explains:
The band COULD have done the shows in Canada, because we would not need Visas/Working Permits to Canada, since the band do have a second set of passports. However, since these second passports are NOT valid to enter to USA, even as a tourist, because they lack certain barcodes etc. which the US customs officials require in order to enter the country. So, after doing these two shows in Canada, the band would have had to fly BACK to Finland and wait for the Visas from the US Embassy (they require that each & every person must come over to the Embassy to pick up his/her Visa/Passport. So doing the tour this way would have meant that about three or four shows in the US would have been cancelled, not to forget that we would have had to buy an extra set of international flights for 17 persons, which would have been very expensive, since these flights would have been booked in the last minute. So all in all, as disappointing it was to the Canadian fans and the band too, we just had to cancel the first three shows of the tour instead of flying overseas TWO times, losing even more money, maybe even losing the US Visas too (if we would have not gotten the suitable return flights back from Montreal in time) and not to cancel those four shows in the US, which would have made our routing as a nightmare. In a situation like this there is no easy solution, you just have to take the one with the smallest damage, and this time it was the Canadian NW fans who had to suffer because of this, for which we all are truly, truly sorry about. We are trying to reschedule the Canadian shows for the latter part of 2004, maybe even adding a second one to Montreal. Stay tuned.
W.A.S.P. Cancel Two More Shows
W.A.S.P. have cancelled two more shows on their North American tour. The first cancelled date was their August 10 show at Barrymore’s Music Hall in Ottawa, Ontario. According to a posting on W.A.S.P.'s official fan forum, no official reason has been given for the cancellation, but according to the bar owners it had to do with "the barriers in front of the stage." The tour manager reportedly claimed the barriers weren't sufficient enough to insure the band's safety and thus decided W.A.S.P. would not play.
The second cancelled date is the August 11 show at Club Infinity in Buffalo (Clarence), New York. Another posting on the band's official forum regarding the cancellation reads:
Since I was going to be driving 2 1/2 hours to see WASP, I figured that (in light of the recent cancellations) calling ahead to make sure it was still on was a good idea. They informed me that the opening bands were still going to play, but "WASP's singer is on the way to the hospital for food poisoning. He said that they are going to try to play if they can, but we won't know until after the openers go on." So I figure I'll take the gamble and run out there anyways...as I get done filling up my gas tank (this is prolly an hour after I made my original phone call) I get a hunch and call the venue again...this time they informed me that WASP has cancelled and again that Blackie was on his way to the hospital, only instead of just food poisoning the girl tells me that "...an ulcer...um...a stomach virus...err...food poisoning...something is wrong with his stomach.
KSE Frontman Talks About Ups & Downs Of The Band
Killswitch Engage frontman Howard Jones spoke to the Hartford Advocate about his joining the band, the state of the metal scene and the hardships and benfits of touring and being in the band.
Speaking to the Advocate fresh off some serious touring -- something like 60 shows in 70 days, and spanning four continents -- the sacrifices inherent to the life of a professional musician are fresh in Jones' mind.
"I'm basically making money to pay for a place I never see," he says. "I just got to see some of my family for the first time in almost a year. I am constantly sick on the road. Last tour, I got bit by a spider and it ended up infected. I had to get three shots. One of my wisdom teeth came in and started to shatter inside my mouth, so I'd be spitting out pieces of that during shows. I sprained my ankle during a show, pretty much dislocated my shoulder during a show, it's just two months straight and you feel like chopped meat. That's the downside ... . I've completely destroyed some relationships because of being in a band. You definitely have your regrets when it comes to that. A lot of times it's great, and then other times, it's really just one of the saddest things you can do."

Korn Guitarist Defends Cameo Cover
Despite the fact that KORN's new cover of "Word Up", originally recorded by the legendary R&B act CAMEO, may raise a few eyebrows among the band's fans, guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer said he feels the song brings a lot of different listeners together. "It was just this great song with a good hook, and it was, you know, it kind of opened the door for a lot of people to listen to, you know, rap and hip-hop," he told Launch Radio Networks. "It turned a lot of white kids onto it, so I thought that was cool. And, you know, our version's, I think, gonna kinda do the same."
CAMEO's version of the tune, released in 1986, reached Number Six on the pop charts.
The track is the first single from KORN's upcoming greatest hits collection, due out on October 19. The album also contains the band's take on PINK FLOYD's "Another Brick In The Wall, Parts 1, 2, & 3".
KORN plan to issue a full album of covers in the near future. Other tracks the band have recorded include NINE INCH NAILS's "Head Like A Hole", PUBLIC ENEMY's "Fight The Power", and FAITH NO MORE's "We Care A Lot" (featuring a guest appearance by LINKIN PARK's Chester Bennington).
Time In Malta Frontman Leaves Band
