Linkin Park Donate $65k To Hurricane Relief
This next post is a little off-topic as Linkin Park are neither underground nor metal, however I think it's a very respectful thing that they're doing, so I felt the need to show people not all bands are greedy and only care about the money:
Sympathetic to the plight of Florida residents devastated by the ravages of Hurricane Charley, multi-platinum rockers LINKIN PARK have announced that they will donate $5.00 from every ticket sold for tonight's Projekt Revolution concert at the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa to the Red Cross Hurricane Charley Relief Fund. The donation will be retroactive and will include all tickets sold for Wednesday's performance (the first show at the Ford Amphitheatre since Hurricane Charley), which will amount to a gift in excess of $65,000.00.
LINKIN PARK wants to do what they can to help those unfortunate people who have had their lives turned upside down by this terrible storm. This is a way for local Projekt Revolution fans to help their neighbors via a reliable relief effort.

Diecast To Release New Album In October
Boston-based quintet DIECAST will release their sophomore full-length album, "Tearing Down Your Blue Skies", in Europe on October 25 through Century Media Records. The follow-up to 2001's "Day Of Reckoning" (Now or Never) "shows the group's progression as musicians and songwriters, while the addition of new vocalist Paul Stoddard adds a whole new feel to the band's dynamic sound," according to an official press release.
Commented bassist Jeremy Wooden:
"I guess the first thing to say is that we're back and better than ever. We have spent almost two years on this material, making sure that every song was as strong and interesting as the next. Our new singer has allowed us to try things that we could never have imagined in the past. We tried to make each song have a different feel and have written some of our heaviest material and also some of our most melodic."
Free MP3 downloads of the new songs "Fire Damage" and "Pendulum" are available at www.bhcdiecast.com.

The trek, dubbed The War Within tour, is set to begin September 16th running through October 2nd in support of the group’s highly anticipated new album. Paragon Performance At Wacken Filmed For DVD?
Paragon bassist Jan Bünning has posted this message on the band's official website:
Sorry for not having any news earlier but we are very busy at present.
At first, of course, we want to thank all the people that attended our Wacken Show. We couldn´t believe how many people watched our show at this early time. Our guess is about 10,000. The show was professional filmed and after our studio recordings we will see if the recordings are good enough to put them on DVD (e.g. I had a few technical problems on stage...). At least we could use them as bonus DVD which will be included in the limited edtions of our next CD "Revenge," which will come out spring 2005 on Remedy Records.
"Revenge" is also the reason it lasted some time with the news as we are already recording since last wednesday. As it was posted wrong on some pages - we ONLY recorded drums at Karo Studios and will do the rest at Piet Sielcks new Powerhouse Studios in Hamburg were I started to record bass yesterday.
You will find an exclusive studio report of each recording day at www.maximummetal.com.

Fozzy Guitarist Departs
Fozzy guitarist Ryan "The Kidd" Mallam has officially departed from the band, according to this posting from the band's official website:
We're sad to announce that Ryan "The Kidd" Mallam has officially let the band know that he will be leaving the band to pursue a full time position as a university swimming coach. The touring duties required by the band, especially in light of the forthcoming release, would not be compatible with his chosen occupation. He will be sorely missed and we wish him the best in his career.
In regards to his replacement the band will soon be accepting submissions from interested players who meet the unique requirements of the band and its live performance schedule. The details of the position will be made available here in the very near future.
Again, we're very sorry to lose such a fantastic player (as you'll hear on the new disc!) and a cool guy. There will always be just one Kidd!
Acrassicauda Can't Land Gigs In War-Torn Iraq
The Wall Street Journal has published an article spotlighting what may be Iraq's only heavy metal band, ACRASSICAUDA, as they learn the difficulties of reviving culture and entertainment in a society ripped apart by war. A short excerpt from the article, which appears in the WSJ's August 17 edition, follows:
"When ACRASSICAUDA ripped into a furious version of METALLICA's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' at a recent concert, dozens of fans rushed the stage, jerked their heads to the music and slam-danced.
"Midway through the set, a portly club official took the stage and ordered the crowd to sit down. The band ignored him and kept playing, and around 50 of the roughly 200 fans remained standing. The official ended the concert and angrily escorted the band off the stage. Faisal Talal, the band's singer and rhythm guitarist, shouted a string of profanities, drawing cheers from the crowd.
"It was a classic moment of rock 'n' roll rebellion, but such gestures come at a high price in Iraq. The venues that ACRASSICAUDA — which may be Iraq's only heavy-metal band — played before the war are now government compounds or off-limits because of street crime. The staid Iraqi Hunting Club, which hosted the aborted concert, says the band won't be allowed back. The group hasn't found a new venue.
"'It's never been harder for us to play our music, but there's also never been so much of a need for it,' says Mr. Talal, 21 years old. 'There's a lot to be angry about these days, and we want to give people a way to get that out.'"
The entire article is available online to The Wall Street Journal subscribers at this location.
