Deftones And Team Sleep Updates

Deftones frontman Chino Moreno recently commented on the group's forthcoming new album, which they will be hitting the studio to record in November alongside producer Bob Ezrin (Jane's Addiction, Pink Floyd, 30 Seconds To Mars). He had the following to say on the intended direction of the effort:

"It's far more aggressive than, you know, our last few records, I'd say. I think we kinda just went in this time and just started writing, and obviously, all the stuff that came out was just way aggressive. That's what kind of made it fun. It was weird being out in Malibu, which is like a sunny place, a happy place, and we just started making some straight evil music."

Meanwhile in goings on with his long-procrastinating side project Team Sleep, some more weight has been added to the rumor we reported earlier this month regarding a November release date for the project's debut album, with a tentative November 02nd being slotted in by their label. A mini-tour for Team Sleep in support of the outing this December is currently being looked into, more details will be announced in coming weeks.

Malevolent Creation Reveal Live Album Tracklisting

Arctic Music Group has set a September 21 release date for the Malevolent Creation live album, "Conquering South America."

It was over ten years ago that the metal world first lay witness to the now genre-shaping "The Ten Commandments" by then-little-known band Malevolent Creation. Eight albums later, Malevolent Creationhave sold hundreds of thousands of records across their catalog, toured consistantly round the world and with each and every move, kept their dedication and musical quality in tact. They are a fitting champion for the extreme music fan.

The hour-plus "Conquering South America" was recorded during the band's 2001 tour of Brazil and masterfully engineered by Jean-Francois Dagenais (Kataklysm, Misery Index). The complete track listing is as follows:

01. Eve Of The Apocalypse
02. Multiple Stab Wounds
03. Manic Demise
04. Blood Brothers

Old Man Gloom To Release New Album "Christmas"

The Old Man Gloom Simian Alien Defense League -- comprised of delegates from Cave-In (RCA), Isis (Ipecac Recordings) and Converge (Epitaph) -- delivers its fifth sonic dissertation, Christmas on Tortuga Recordings on Tuesday, August 24th.

Response from fans of OMG and its respective outfits has been unanimously enthusiastic regarding this immense 13-song album that took three years in the making. The wait has certainly been worth it. The songs are so musically diverse, Christmas seems to continually shift moods and styles, while retaining a slinking, syrupy depth throughout. From the crushing force of epic opener "Gift" -- think Meddle-era Pink Floyd meets Isis -- to the flowing effluvium of "Something for the Mrs", to twisted psych of "The Volcano" and art-punk of "'Tis Better to Receive" the album showcases the quintet's incredible talents and mixed palettes. Equal parts Skullflower, Neurosis, Black Dice, Pink Floyd and Mens Recovery Project, OMG's latest edict has something for every fan of unusual and extreme music.

In OMG's typical tounge-in-cheek fashion, Christmas details man's myriad gifts to Mother Nature -- and the incalculable repercussions thereof. Apes and chimps unite to fend off the "rewards" of civilization, but man's capacity for avarice and cruelty knows no bounds. Mass insurrection results in a battle for the ages. Evolution, as they say, is just a theory. But, this much is true: the only good human is a dead human.

Old Man Gloom -- the effigy of Zozobra that is ritually burned in Native American culture to cast off all ill will of the year -- is stuffed this time around with guitarist/vocalist Nate Newton(Converge), bassist/vocalist Caleb Scofield (Cave-In), electronics specialist Luke Scarola, drummer Santos Montano and guitarist/vocalist Aaron Turner (Isis, et al.)

This album would make a fantastic sidebar to coverage of forthcoming releases by Converge and Isis, due this fall.

Jagermeister Music Tour '04 News

The Jägermeister Music Tour is back, and due to overwhelming demand, Slayer returns to headline. Following the success of the Fall '03 Tour, Slayer has signed to once again lead the charge. Thrash/Punk/Metal mainstays will be joined by Killswitch Engage and Mastodon. The Tour is set to roar on October 29th in Springfield, Missouri.

American Recordings artists, Slayer - hands down one of the most distinctive and influential punk/thrash/metal bands on the planet - will headline The Jagermeister Music Tour, delivering its blast of über-noise night after night. Slayer will be fresh from their jaunt with this year's Ozzfest and a four-week co-headline European tour with Slipknot.

Celebrating the recent release of their box set, Soundtrack to the Apocalypse, and Gold sales certification of their War at the Warfield DVD, Slayer will release a brand-new DVD, Still Reigning, in October. The cornerstone of the video will be the live performance of "Reign In Blood," the band's 28-minute undisputed masterpiece that has been called the greatest speed metal album of all time. Slayer's video, "Bloodline," was recently named the "#1 Best Metal Video of the New Millennium (So Far)" by viewers of MTV2's "Headbangers Ball" and readers of Revolver magazine.

Killswitch Engage is considered to be one of heavy metal's best live acts. The End of Heartache, their third album, has been called " a stunning collection, retaining much of their signature (sound) but teasing with electric hooks ("The End of Heartache") and strategic use of silence ("When Darkness Falls")…" by Rolling Stone magazine.

Killswitch Engage is ready to stupefy crowds during this Tour. Songs from their latest release, The End of Heartache (Roadrunner Records), rage on the Resident Evil: Apocalypse soundtrack as well as the upcoming MTV2 Headbangers Ball, Volume 2 compilation.

Inarguably one of the most talked about bands in recent extreme music history, Relapse Records' Mastodon has awakened the slumbering heavy metal music scene. Their latest, Leviathan, is a monster of a release and has been called "Devastating" by Rolling Stone. The group, noted for their exhilarating live performances and unique sound, has just been named as one of Revolver magazine's 10 "Future of American Metal" bands as well as one of Alternative Press Magazine's 7 "Most Important Bands in Metal Today."

The fast-growing Jägermeister Music Tour is now in its fourth successful year. "The caliber of the talent we've been able to draw from is tremendous," says Rick Zeiler, Director of Marketing & Brand Development for Jägermeister, "and having Slayer on board again is huge. Slayer is a legend, and they are the perfect fit for Jägermeister and our fans."

Each show on the Tour will be rounded out by a Jägermeister-sponsored band. In addition, fans can expect the usual royal treatment with great giveaways from Jägermeister and show sponsors, Schecter Guitars, Peavey Electronics, Coffin Case and Meinl Cymbals.*

For more information on dates and cities visit www.jagermeistermusictour.com.

*Must be 21 years old to receive giveaways subject to availability and legal restrictions in each state.

Body Count Issues Statement On Guitarist's Death

BODY COUNT members Ice-T and Ernie C have issued a statement regarding the death of the band's rhythm guitarist Dennis "D-Roc" Miles, who passed away Tuesday due to complications from lymphoma. He was 45 years old.

"D-Roc was the backbone of the BODY COUNT sound," Ice-T said in the statement. "He went to school with me and Ernie, for me it was great to bring friends from my childhood along to share in success. Words cannot explain how much we will miss D-Roc — more as a friend than as a band member."

"We will carry on the band in some form," Ernie C added. "I don’t know if it will be BODY COUNT, but in some form, Ice and I will always play together."

Family and friends were at Miles' bedside at City of Hope hospital in Duarte, California when he died. Miles is survived by a daughter Paris, stepdaughter Kianna and family in Los Angeles.

BODY COUNT, whose previous drummer Beatmaster V died of leukemia and bassist Mooseman was killed in a drive-by shooting in South Central Los Angeles, had been inactive for several years following the release of 1997's "Violent Demise: Last Days".

The band were the focus of national media attention with their controversial song "Cop Killer", which was included on the group's self-titled debut in 1991.

Nightwish Arrives In The US, And Beer Trivia

Raodrunner has updated their news with the following Nightwish-related info:

Nightwish arrived in the US (NYC, to be exact) no more than 3 hours ago (and it is currently August 19th, 6:26pm EST). FINALLY. The band will spend the night in NYC, and head up to Worcester, MA first thing in the morning, where they will play their first show later that night on this stateside run.

All that traveling...all the delay with the visas, it's enough to make one want a beer. And that, leads us to a Did You Know? Did You Know? In Finland, the home of Nightwish, there is a beer named Nightwish. And yes, it is named after the band. True. The lager is apparently only available in three pubs currently, but word has it this brew will soon be made available throughout Finland.

Out very own zMETALlica was to interview the band this evening. Hopefully they were all sober. Or maybe not. You'll have to see, as we'll have it posted as soon!

Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia Poses For Stuff

Lacuna Coil singer Cristina Scabbia is featured in the September issue of Stuff magazine, where she's asked if she has crazy male groupies. "Some people write to me about my feet because of the sandals I wore in one photo session," she said. "People went crazy for my feet! But usually when men come up to me, they don't tick me off or say anything rude. They always kiss my hand or say, 'Won't you marry me?' or 'Can I have a hug?' They are really polite. I don't want to know what they say behind my back." You can check out a sexy shot of Cristina at StuffMagazine.com.
